Yes, i agree musiwa that Ikemba should be given full Presidential burial with 21 gun salute. Not sure of Gowan doning Biafra uni. grin We are all Nigerians at the end of the day and things happens dat should not have in the first place but we move on and make amends.

Some on this thread are poison like jason, bluetooth and namfav, the guy has no love wat so ever. He pass  hate for logic and screws it up everytime.

TRUTHTELA u are too much and make alot of sense. May God bless u, never stop telling true.
Whatever way, he remains the Igbo hero not a Nigerian hero and as such NO ONE WILL OBSERVE SUCH A CEREMONY except Igbos, of course. Its like giving Saro wiwa or Gani adams a National burial. SMH! Delusion of grandeur!

TRUTHTELA:
I cannot believe the IGNORANCE of people. How come young people refuse to see ask questions and see things objectively? OJUKWU is BAD. Ibos lost the war. Ibos are marginalized. IBOS are everything bad you can think of, Have you asked yourself who is the HERO in Nigeria & what are his legacies. Gowon has a bigger war going On at the back of his house. Has the civil war ended in Jos? Nigerian federation defeated Biafra in 1970, from that date till today? Where is the PEACE? where is the PROGRESS? All the people that saw EVIL during the civil war & said that it is GOOD. How did they end up? Ibos LOST the war, but Northern Nigeria remains the WRETCHED of the earth. SOUTHWEST did not lose any war, Obasanjo ruled for 8years, whatever lacks interms of development inn the SOUTHEAST, is in abundance in the SOUTHWEST. You speak ill of Ojukwu, this same Ojukwu asked a QUESTION in 1966, "Why Brig. Babafemi Ogundipe will not take charge of Nigeria. Ogundipe was Ironsi's deputy & going by military command,he was suppose to take over, but it did not happen & Ojukwu asked WHYhuh

Show me who is a Nigerian, and I will show you who is a COWARD, POVERTY STRICKEN, UNDERDEVELOPED, LIVES IN DARKNESS, UNHAPPY, A TABOO IN THE EYES OF THE INT'L COMMUNITY and will FOREVER BE HELD HOSTAGE by the same forces that Ojukwu and Nzeogwu fought.

Ojukwu is THIS & THAT, but, how far have you, your family, tribe & the Nigeria country fared better after the civil war?? Tell me one LEGACY Obasanjo left for the yourbas or how much did he empower the yourba race? People that are suppose to BURY their head in SHAME, FEW HAUSA/FULANI enslaved you all. You all will continue to live in MISERY called Nigeria. Ojukwu has done his BIT

FYI, Ojukwu was born RICH, it is on RECORD & was never in WANT before he died. Obasanjo & his likes were born poor, and have been stealing piblic funds all their lives. If Obasanjo walk on the street, people will stone him.

. . . and it is the same tribalist Yorubas that will stone him. Why? Because they know how to hold their leaders accountable. Btw, Hausa Fulani enslave who all?? If that was the case, Buhari should have won. Nigeria has gone past that time of silly argument such as this. Who in their right senses will say Igbos are evil?? Must we have a hero after a civil war that affected US all? You are not making sense. Too emotional.

I can see that many people are deluded. It's like given Tompolo or Gani adams a full presidencial burial. Or Ken saro wiwa a full presidential burial. You guys are unserious. At least, that generation is going gradually!

Jason123: It is not because of him that Nigeria is like this.

He never ruled Nigeria so he is not part of the political and military class that looted and pillaged Nigeria.

He never planted coup or usurped federal power or used access to Nigeria resources to enrich himself and his cronies like IBB, Abacha, Obasanjos, Dangumas, etc.

He did not fight against Nigeria. He fought against the issues which Nigeria is facing today
. Example is the massacre and killing going on in Jos, Gowons hometown.

History - not our comments on Nairaland or dailies has rendered verdict on Ojukwu.
And have the issues changed? If not, he should not have come back to Nigeria and try to be part of the same system by collecting pension etc and even contested as the president. Well history will certainly judge him, that I agree . .

What I find funny is that almost all the actors in the civil war wrote down memoirs except Ojukwu as Alhaji pointed out in pg2. Why?? Why did he not write down his own account?? LOL. Keep thinking your enemies are the Yorubas . . . hahahaa!
Some of you guys have been so so deceived that you find it hard to separate the reality from friction. From one of the videos brought out by Relax 101 about the war, the soldiers were well fed but the citizens were not. Yet, someone is talking about Gabon? WTF? How can a blockade be effective and yet, you still had the effrontery to import from another country?

Lies no good oo!

For a country he fought against?? How do people think? Keep deceiving yourselves! To an average man from another ethnic group, he represents &%$. . . . Same as other tribal leaders in Nigeria. Why should tribal leaders be given National honour? It because of him and his likes Nigeria is like this today!

He was a leader and a god of his people, he could have easily spread propaganda of hate against the Igbos in Yoruba land but what do we get? The Igbos spreading propaganda of hate against the same people that helped during and after the war,

Governors of the ix southwest states and Edo will lead prominent Nigerians to launch Yoruba Education Trust Fund (YETFUND) this Tuesday in Lagos.

The Education fund which was put in place to rescue the decay being witnessed in the education sector in Nigeria today, especially in the Southwest will also be attended by the governors of Delta, Kogi and Kwara states as well as other eminent Yoruba personalities.

They have resolved to intervene in education development in the south west.

Speaking on the programme, Chairman Public Presentation Committee of YETFUND and former Chairman of Daily Times of Nigeria, Akogun Tola Adeniyi said the Yoruba nation is worried by the performances in education in Nigeria generally and in the South West in particular and “we have resolved to take the bull by the horn”, he said.

He said YETFUND commissioned Professor Babatunde Fetuga who is the Chairman of Research and Planning Committee of the Fund to carry out a broad analysis of the education sector and the result was abysmal.

As a result, Adeniyi noted there is no going back in their resolve to save the education of the Yoruba children and make them back to the old fame the region is known for.

He said YETFUND has decided to intervene on six major areas which would essentially formed the implementation of their Mission and Vision.

He listed the six major interventions as capacity building; Curriculum Development; Management of schools; infrastructure; educational support services and the informal adult and technical education (vocational training).

Also, former Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile –Ife and a member of the Board of YETFUND, Professor Wale Omole said the concept of YETFUND began about three years ago when piqued by the deplorable deterioration in the standard of education in the country and more embarrassingly so in the South West.

He said some Yoruba elders decided that the time for complaining should come to an end and some serious steps should be take to stem the dangerous trend.

He said the Fund at inception was led by the former Governor of Central Bank, Pa Ola Vincent and that the steering committee formalised the documentation of the Fund and in November last year inaugurated a 60-member Governing Council which Executive committee came up with an intervention strategy in the education system of the South West.

To start I must note that I’m of Igbo descent, from Anambra State.
I think it’s really sad that Igbo people uncritically look at Ojukuw as their great hero. Let’s review his so-called antecedents.
1.   He singlehandedly maneuvered the Igbo and Nigeria into the war. Aburi gave him more than 90% of what he had wanted, and most of his advisers, including Hilary Njoku, the highest ranking Igbo officer at the time, advised him to accept it. Njoku was initially the commander of the Biafran army. He opposed secession. Ojukuw had him under house arrest until the end of the war for that opposition and for being of higher rank than him.
2.   Ojukwu started planning secession as early as in May 1967. The so-called authorization he got from the consultative assembly was a sham. The decision was already made and the assembly was a rubber stamping body. His argument was that if he could not be president of Nigeria then he would be president of something else. Proof of that is that a man who Nigeria should have tried for treason has run for Nigerian president three times. The fool even collected his pension from the Nigerian army.
3.   There was no genocide plot to wipe out the Igbo after all Igbos had fled from the North in late 1966. Genocide by the way is a difficult task to carry out. Either you build special facilities for it, as the Nazis did, or the two sides have to live in close contact with each other, as in Rwanda. The North had no Auschwitz death camps, and, as I noted, most Igbo had returned to the East and were safe.
4.   Biafra was probably the most underequipped nation to go to war in history. By the latter half of the 20th century the penalties for being the technologically backward side in a war had escalated astronomically. Ojukwu, against the advice of most people in the East with military training still went to war.  Asked about meeting the North again for talks only about three weeks before the start of the war he pompously told Awolowo that the only place he wanted to meet the North was on the battlefield. This was when Biafra had less than two hundred machineguns.
5.   He sent “civilian volunteers” out to meet the Nigerian army near Nsukka in July 1967 armed with only machetes. They were mown down and the survivors fled.
6.   Refused to allow donated food aid from abroad to Biafra overland across Nigerian territory, although Gowon gave a guarantee. His argument was that Nigeria would poison the food. Why poison food when it was clear that you were winning? The Red Cross offered to inspect the food and Ojukwu still declined.
7.   He ran Biafra as a dictatorship. Anyone who got too popular was demoted. Opposition was ruthlessly silenced. Ifeajuna wanted to negotiate with the Federals and got executed for what may have been a fictitious coup plot.
8.   Of course, famously, he ran away. Not many people know that he commandeered a plane meant for the evacuation of sick children to get out of the ruin he created.
9.   The war set the Igbo back by decades. Without Biafra an Igbo man would have been president long ago.
10.   Biafra was founded ostensibly to protect Igbos. Is the proper protection from riots and pogroms in the North exposing the Igbo to the full firepower of wartime while sending out kids to fight with sometimes three bullets each, while cold and hungry?
11.   Joined the NPN, the party of his alleged former Northern enemies, mainly to avoid Zik’s shadow. He had to beat Zik in the contest for Igbo leader.
12.   Igbo people, think.

So sad he has joined his colleagues Awolowo, Azikiwe, Ahmadu Bello etc.  to spend eternity in hell after being a hero in this life. Too bad. No matter the achievement you make here on earth, once you miss heaven you have missed all and except a man be born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God. I love ojukwu as a person and as a hero but its a pity he is gone a lost soul. Except he repented before dying (which i doubt) but if he did, thank God (also any of his colleagues). If not, then he is doomed forever. All this rest in peace nonsense that we say here to the dead doesn't matter anything to God's judgement.
Well said. It means u r a true Christian who understands the word of God. For all I know, if ojukwu, awo etc were not born again before dying, IT IS STRAIGHT HELL.

As for the morons that are weeping n shouting  hero, the bible says let the dead bury the dead!

BENIN— CHIEF of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, has warned politicians harbouring the idea of dismembering the country to discard such ideas as the Nigerian Army was prepared to pay the supreme price in defence of the unity of the country.

Gen. Ihejirika’s warning came on the heels of the arrest of a serving Senator for allegedly supporting the Boko Haram Islamic sect which has been bombing several parts of the North and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja in recent times.

Fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the end of a three-day Chief of Army Staff, COAS, conference in Benin, he said the Military and other security agencies had made huge sacrifices to keep Nigeria united in the past past and would continue to do same,

“My advice to politicians is first, that there is no other country but Nigeria. It is because Nigeria exists that they are able to aspire to positions. But having said this, I want to remind every one the Nigerian Army made huge sacrifices along with other agencies to keep this county one and united.

The last civil war happens to be one example. The Nigerian Army is ever determined to pay the supreme price at any point in time to keep this country united.

’’So, it is a wasted effort for anyone to think of dismembering this country. Such politicians should rather discard such idea completely,” he said, assuring that the Nigerian Army would remain apolitical at all times.

The COAS further said the Army was able to come up with new principles for the management of terrorism, adding that that the principles included commitment, patriotism and resilience among others.

According to him, the Army now have a better understanding of the challenges of terrorism and were therefore better positioned to deal with it.

He stated that in fighting terrorism, one way to reduce collateral damage and save the lives of innocent people was to improve on intelligence gathering, saying that because that Army cannot fight terrorism alone, it has established Department of Civil-Military relations to deal effectively with the situation, pointing out that the conference afforded them the opportunity to review all its activities in the areas of operations, training, logistics and general administration.

ND republic is a fallacy. A united south in case of a break up is the best option, if not, ONE NIGERIA! The idea to lump or fragment the south will be disastrous.
