Aloy+Emeka:Aloy+Emeka Didn't the EFCC arrest and detain Iyabo Obasanjo, OBJ's daughter and a sitting Senator ? If what you are saying holds, how then do you explain this ? |
I concur ! |
Let the power be available first. When the power is available, then you can talk about its usage. It's like a poor man saying " I will buy bentley, I will buy hummer" when I have the money. Until they have the power, they are just dreaming. |
Na waa. When did the lawmakers become govt ministry/parastatal to execute projects ![]() |
It's not just lagos, add Onitsha. Big commercial cities in the south will flourish if power is fully deregulated. Unlike abuja, these cities do not depend heavily on oil money to sustain themselves. This is why it is crucial for Jonathan Goodluck to move swiftly on this before hausa/fulani becomes president again. |
Jonathan has to oversee the scrapping of PHCN and privatization of the distributing/generating companies before his term in office expires next year. This is a must. As rightly put in the article, demand for electricity will exceed supply in nigeria for the next 10 years, so these investments are basically cash cows. The President will leave behind a long lasting legacy if he does this successfully in a corrupt-free manner. |

Moreover[b] the government really should concentrate on improving internal security and the maintenance of the existing federal highways. You are absolutely right ! Except for the dire need to build power stations. It should be treated as a National priority issue, hence the need for the federal govt to step in. |
tensor777:I actually think we are both right. The Govt needs to privatize its firms that can be better managed by the private sector. At this point, Nitel should have been sold and should now be going by a different name altogether. On the other hand, there are some sectors that the govt has to help "jump start". OBJ has tried to privatize power generation - I believe there are now some private generating companies. However, the situation is so dire - we are still hovering around ~ 4,000 MW of electricity for 150 million people. Since the situation is dire and we have over $40 billion in reserves, I think the govt can build power stations and later sell (privatize) them. What matters most is an environment investors find suitable as I previously noted. |
To an extent they are - they have to create an environment conducive for those willing to set up shop. When a sitting General in Jos that is supposed to help save guard lives and property refuses to do so based on religious or ethnicity grounds, how well will this sit with potential investors ? Have you seen the emphasis some countries have placed on making sure they have sufficient power supply ? Reuters reported recently that Egypt is raising $170 million to build a new 750MW power plant (it currently produces 25,000 MW of electricity). This simple measure helps create jobs (albeit indirectly) as power supply is essential for any business to thrive. [pardon me as I didn't read through the thread b4 posting ] |
Aloy+Emeka:Please, where is your source ? I just read his bio and there was no mention of this. |
Rather than Yar'adua finish the NIPP power projects started by his predecessor, he went on a witch hunting campaign that has so far yielded nothing. Now, Sanusi is ready to doll out another N500 billion to banks. When are we going to learn how to do things right in this country ? |
biina:and what do you really think will come of this ? are we talking about the same banks whose CEO's (Ibru, Atuche, Akingbola) carted away billions of naira of their bank's money ? are these the same banks you want the govt to entrust N500 billion naira ? the cbn officials, the BOI and these banks will end up sharing the money in the end. The projects will lie fallow as white elephant projects. Let the private sector bring in their funds just as they did with the telecoms. Sanusi has no business with power supply. |
biina:it is the responsibility of the central bank to be the banker's bank, not to be funding power projects. |
this is not the responsibility of any country's central bank. |
Naija is so bad that you really can't get much done in 12 months as president. |
the guy really try N50 billion naira is well over $300 million US dollars (at N150 : $1) Wasn't Ceceila Ibru's own around N50 billion naira too ![]() |
@Eddeux your thread would have been legitimate if it did not have the hatred undertone. When I first saw the thread topic, I thought it was a non-Nigerian wanting some education (or enlightenment) on the state of affairs of the country. After going through your posts, I discovered that you have sinister motives. from eddeux Cause you know, we Black Americans can't be the only successful black folks in this world foreverWell, since you want to be that way, you are being giving a treat by the Ezeuche's and co. from Ezeuche I weep for the akata girl who has no daddy to say he loves her so she sleeps with as many men as possible.equation don balance ![]() |
If this is true, does the Governor realize what he is saying about himself as a leader ? |
This man's arrest is political abeg. Yes, he probably embezzled, but the reason he is being charged is due to his closeness to Obasanjo. Yar'adua, using Farida Waziri, has used the EFCC to witch hunt every known accomplice of OBJ that served within the 1999 - 2007 period. Ribadu, El-rufai are on the run today for this same reason. Adenike Grange, the former health minister that said repeatedly that she did not steal a kobo, was hastily charged by the EFCC and has since had her case thrown out by a competent court of law. This EFCC is very biased abeg ![]() |
Do you recall what happened to the Channels tv executive when they mistakenly reported ill news about yar'adua's govt ? The SSS locked them up and closed the station down. What then do you think would happen to sahara ? They will blow them up Dele Giwa style. |
I won't say the cabal has won. The demands they made were fairly reasonable IMO. People, Jonathan has to thread softly because Yar'adua is still alive and remember he is president in an acting capacity. I believe the troop buildup around abuja and aso rock (without his knowledge) should be looked into and if possible, heads should roll. But it cannot be done in a haste. Jonathan needs to let the unruly northern elements understand that he is not anti-yar'adua and at the same time, assert himself by putting his foot on the ground. He has already shown he is up the task by quickly replacing Aondoakaa as AGF. As someone has stated, too much gra gra is not the solution to this fuming situation. |
Alhaji Tanko Yakasai is just talking nonsense. Yar'adua is ill, he cannot govern, so who should take over ? Because OBJ, a southerner, ruled for 8 years, does that mean we should bypass the sitting vice president and install a northerner to replace Yar'adua ? The Nigerian constitution has precedence over the interest of the North. |
Fhemmmy:abeg help me ask am ![]() |
asaba's proximity to onitsha would make the airport viable, no doubt. But what about the river niger bridge ? what's been done about that ? |
It is official, Yar'adua is on his way back. Reuters ABUJA, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua was being flown back to the capital Abuja on Tuesday, three months after he left for medical treatment in Saudi Arabia, Nigerian government sources and a Saudi airport official said. "The president left at 10:22 p.m. (1922 GMT) alone in a plane and another plane carried Nigerian government envoys," the official at Jeddah airport told Reuters. Nigerian government and presidency officials could not immediately be reached for comment. The 58-year-old leader left Nigeria in late November to receive medical treatment at a clinic in Jeddah for pericarditis, an inflammation of the membrane surrounding the heart that can restrict normal beating. His absence brought Africa's most populous nation to the brink of constitutional crisis and threatened to paralyse the business of government, until Vice President Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in as acting leader two weeks ago |
what about Chief Emeka Anyaoku. he is worthy of mentioning. |
this thread should be deleted immediately |
