The hope of recovering the abducted Chibok girls yesterday dimmed further with the declaration by a returnee from Boko Haram camp. Twenty-one-year old Tabitha Adamu, one of the women freed from the sect’s camp and handed over to the Borno State Government last week, said the girls had turned to Boko Haram fighters. Tabitha, who is expectant for one of the sect’s commanders who forcibly married her, said she mingled with the girls at various times in the sect’s camp. According to Tabitha, she was taken from Bayan Dutse in Gwoza Local Government Area, when the insurgents invaded her village. She said: “They killed my father and brother. They took me along with my mother but at some point we were separated. Since then, I’ve not set my eyes on my mother. When he (Abu Kabir, my Boko Haram husband), wanted to marry me, he gave the women who were taking care of us N5,000 as my bride price. “Before the marriage, I was asked to convert to Islam. I did so because many who refused were killed and they gave me a name (Samira). I answered the name but I know my true name is my real name. When we were rescued I told the soldiers that my name is Tabitha. “They asked me if I am one of the wives of the Boko Haram and I told them my story. They felt for me and they treated me well. “Many people asked me since we were liberated, particularly about the pregnancy. I don’t know the right answer to give because I actually do not know what to do. It has happened. I don’t know what the authorities would do about it but I think it is too late to abort it. But my prayer is that I give birth safely.” Tabitha said she completed her secondary education and earned a certificate in computer appreciation in Maiduguri before moving to join her parents in Gwoza, at the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency. According to her, now that the government has promised to help her, she would be looking for a good future when she finally gains her freedom after the government might have trained her in a trade. http://thenationonlineng.net/chibok-girls-now-boko-haram-fighters/ |
Roger Federer will try to cap a superb run of form with his first major title in three years when he plays Novak Djokovic in Sunday's US Open final. The Swiss, 34, has not dropped a set since he lost to Djokovic in the Wimbledon final in July and has swept through the draw in New York. But Djokovic, 28, is on course to win a third Grand Slam of 2015, having only missed out in the French Open final. The final is scheduled to begin at 21:00 BST, though rain is forecast. Djokovic expects 'aggressive' Federer Serena Williams and her pursuit of the calendar Slam dominated the first 12 days of the tournament, but Djokovic is on the verge of bettering her year at the majors. For the second time in his career, the Serb is within sight of winning three of the four Slams, and for the first time has has reached all four finals. "Win or lose on Sunday, it still has been so far a great year, my best year alongside 2011," said Djokovic. "But obviously I'm only thinking about winning that US Open trophy." Djokovic, who thrashed the defending champion Marin Cilic in the semi-finals, will be up against a man in rare attacking form in Federer. "I know that he's lately being very aggressive coming to the net, mixing up, and trying to shorten out the points," said Djokovic. "I think also he improved his speed. His defensive game is better than it was." Federer ready for 'shoot-out' Federer will almost certainly have the backing of most of the 23,000 spectators as he attempts to win his first US Open in seven years, and his first major anywhere in three years. "I definitely think if there would be more on my side that will give me a lift and extra energy and momentum possibly," said the Swiss, looking for his 18th major title. Since losing to Djokovic in the Wimbledon final in July, Federer has won the Cincinnati title and reached the final in New York without dropping a set. He beat Djokovic in the Cincinnati final but has not overcome the Serb at a Grand Slam in three years, despite still edging their head-to-head record 21-20. "I think it's just a straight shoot-out, and I think that's the cool thing about our rivalry," he said. "It's very athletic. We can both handle whatever we present to one another, it's very even." http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/34236233 |

The discovery of a new species of a human ancestor was announced at the Cradle of Humankind on Thursday. Here are some interesting facts about Homo naledi: 1. H. naledi was named after the Rising Star cave - "naledi" means "star" in Sesotho. The bones were found in a chamber of the cave named Dinaledi, accessible only through a narrow chute, about 90 metres from the cave entrance. 2. Homo naledi looks like one of the most primitive members of our genus, but also has some surprisingly human-like features. 3. Homo naledi had a tiny brain, about the size of an orange, and a slender body, was about 1.5 metres tall and weighed about 45 kilograms. 4. The teeth are similar to the earliest-known members of our genus, such as Homo habilis, but the shoulders are more similar to those of apes. 5. The hands suggest tool-using capabilities, with extremely curved fingers, more curved than almost any other species of early hominin, which demonstrates climbing capabilities. 6. The feet are "virtually indistinguishable" from modern humans. Its feet and long legs suggest the species was well-suited for long-distance walking. 7. The fact that the fossils were found in a room deep underground, practically alone, in the absence of any other major fossil animals, suggests the possibility of a form of ritualised behaviour previously thought to be unique to humans. It seems like the bodies were carried into the chamber, suggesting an understanding of death. 8. More than 1 550 fossil elements were recovered, consisting of infants, children, adults and elderly individuals. 9. More than 60 cavers and scientists worked together to recover the bones through the 18-centimetre-wide cave opening. 10. There are potentially hundreds, if not thousands, of remains of Homo naledi still in the chamber. http://m.news24.com/news24/SouthAfrica/News/10-fascinating-facts-about-Homo-naledi-20150910

kel4soft:Ethnicity? I guess you are the one viewing this comment from the ethnic point of view. I'm only concern about southwest derbies which are always like war. The days of 3SC vs Stationary stores of lagos can't be forgotten. 3SC vs Gateway of Abeokuta matches are always great. Southwest derbies in Adamasingba stadium (ibadan) are always great and that's what I'm anticipating. |

..SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT... It is highly important to put a stop to the misinformation being spread by the Media Manager of Sunshine Stars F.C., Mr Wahab Bankole about the fabricated damage to their bus. This is a blatant falsehood and Shooting Stars as a traditional club with impeccable integrity need to come out clean and paint a clearer picture! We want to believe that Mr Wahab Bankole must have been misquoted because it was actually the 3SC bus that was damaged in an effort to prevent the irate fans from attacking Sunshine Stars' Dare Ojo, who had deliberately attacked the ball boy (who is still being hospitalized) in the course of the match. (see pix. 1&2) Some of the fans believed the yellow card issued to him instead of red was not enough, hence, they must punish him! As such, the General Manager, Rashidi Balogun had to instruct one of the drivers, Mr Ojo Thomas to use our bus to convey the Sunshine Stars players and officials to their hotel which apparently did not go down with the angry fans who broke the back screen of the bus...see picture 3. Even after the match commissioner and assessor had ensured nothing happened to the vehicles! Thus, it was very surprising to read on/in the social the misinformation and an act of putting the game to disrepute, despite the efforts of the League Management Company, (LMC) at fashioning the league which everybody will be proud of all over the world! However, it is our hope that this act of dispute from Sunshine Stars would not go unchecked..! https://m.facebook.comstory.php?story_fbid=140291259649296&id=134021273609628&refid=7&_ft_=qid.61918880982896104593Amf_story_key.12571622518771183183AeligibleForSeeFirstBumping.&__tn__=%2As Cc: Lalasticlala

taiocol:10th I guess. Just behind 3SC. This season isn't just too good for them. |
Happy to see more Southwest teams in the NPFL. Now we have 4 teams for Southwest derby. I rep the Oluyole warriors.

Before you criticise 3SC fans for this action, you must take note of these events 1. Sunshine FC of Akure fans also did the same to 3sc fans 2 seasons ago. 2. Sunshine FC fans beat the then Oyo Commissioner of Sports, Hon. Dapo Lam during the haf-time of the encounter, that he was hospitalised for weeks. 3. Even with that, 3SC was punished for boycotting the 2nd half of the game by the LMC disciplinary committee by deducting 3 points from the existing points. This action led to d relegation of the Oluyole warriors. 4. During yesterday encounter, an aggressive Sunshine FC player (Ojo) pushed the ball boy who was doing his job to the extent that the boy was rushed to the hospital with ambulance. |

The Remo Child project was born in the wake of 2014 by some young passionate Remo Youths who believe in economic, social and cultural development of Remo people. The purpose of the initiative is to celebrate and encourage Remo talented youths to becoming one of (if not the best) of their kinds. Therefore, under this score we reasoned that this is vital in any common cultural ground. But to be specific, on the following grounds: (a) To celebrate, support and promote brainy among men. (b) Empowerment of the less-privileges who will tomorrow makes Remo proud. (c) To educate and preserve Remo valuable culture and tradition. (d) To reach-out to physically challenged and less-privileges. (e) To disseminate first-hand progressive information to our people. However, it would be worthwhile to mention names of the initiators of the Remo Child: (a) Olootu Seyi Idris (b) Hon. Babatunde Ayorinde (c) Mr. Yomi Fagbemi (d) Abimbola Osisanwo (e) Mr. Adegbuyi Oduguwa (UK) (f) Mr. Arogundade Oluwakeji (Cyprus) (g) Ms. Abiodun Adebisi (h) And my humble self. For the year, The Committee had met and agreed on common ground to select Mr. Isaac Ibikunle as 2015 Remo Child. Brief Biography of Isaac Ibikunle Ibikunle Isaac was born into a society where little or none is given. Unlike many others born in the Generation Y, Isaac distinguished himself to become a name to be recon within a short while of his existence as Sagamu ambassador. Born in 1987 into a modest but popular paternal family of Ogunfero Compound, Ijagba Sagamu and maternal family of the prestigious Lewo/ Seriki Mabawoku Compound, Isote Sagamu. His paternal lineage could be traced to the chieftaincy stool of Olisa of Ijagba, where his forefathers were historically called upon to occupy the stool next to the king. His maternal side is known for the introduction of Islamic religion into Sagamu community. But then, humble and simple is what is synonymous to both families. Isaac father, Mr Olusanya Ibikunle is a civil servant while his mother Mrs. Comfort Ibikunle is also a Tailor. Growing up for Isaac was not lovely as many of us had it. Most especially because his physically challenged mother could only do little to contribute to his happiness. Then one may wonder what kind of pains this son of prodigy would went through growing up. Isaac started life and education in Ijagba. He attended L.G School 1, Ijagba and Methodist Comprehensive College Sagamu. As a boy, He had learnt the family trade of tailoring and accustomed himself to lives of the locals. In other to assists his parents, Isaac became a menial labourer and was exposed to more hardship immediately after his secondary school education. After his secondary school education, Isaac gained admission into Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta to read Mass Communication and in 2008 graduated with National Diploma (ND). From there he proceeded to the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife to studied Law. In almost three decades, the period of 2012 and 2015 was adjudged the best the in the life of Ibikunle Isaac as an undergraduate. Isaac, whose present career objective is “to practice law in a reputable law firm that skillfully maximizes the opportunities in ADR, litigation and other legal practices in the best interests of the clients and in accordance with professional ethics.” Started his legal career as a researcher in the OAU team to participate in the 22nd African Human Rights Moot Competition, South Africa 2013. Led and participated in the 23rd Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition (Africa Regional Round), Abuja 2014, and the OAU Team emerged winner of the competition which qualified the team for the world round. This victory was an important milestone as the team was to participate in the world round, 23rd Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, Canada in October, 2014. Unlike Isaac’s many contemporaries who were born with silver spoons, Isaac talent paved ways for him to tour Africa and America without a kobo spent by his humble parents. Isaac did not attend Aunty Bose Nursery and Primary School nor the prestigious Mayflower Secondary school, yet he distinguished himself in the committee of intellectuals and scholars. In May 2012, 2nd Dr. Tunji Abayomi Inter-Chambers Moot Competition was hosted and Isaac was appointed the Lead-Counsel in the Equity Chambers Team, Surprisingly, His team emerged the winner. It was now the turn of 3rd Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) National Moot and Mock Competition, The OAU team again and again emerged winner. Also, Isaac led, Co-Counsel and Medical Expert witness of the OAU team, Unilorin in 2013 for the 2nd Yusuf O. Ali (SAN) All Nigerian Universities Moot and Mock/Oratory Competition where his team again emerged the winner. What is more, as a passionate lawyer in the embryo, Isaac worked as a lead-Counsel of the OAU Team for the 2nd Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) Inter-Universities Debate and Moot Competition in AAUA, 2014 and his team emerged winner of the competition. After a meritorious and industrious service to the students’ community and the OAU Team, Isaac was nominated by the students’ intellectual community to become the number one students’ citizen of the prestigious center of learning, fortunately, his nomination received approval through an overwhelming vote from the University’s Students community and between May 2014 and March 2015; Isaac was an Executive President of OAU Students’ Union. This made him the first Sagamu Indigene and University underground who have achieved such in the great Ife. In the same period, he was also appointed Head, Public Lecture Organizing Committee, OAU. Isaac is a member of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, 2011 till date and had won several students awards for himself: 2013 Nominee as the Nigerian Best Student-Leader of the Year by Behind Awards, Nigeria. 2014 Nominee as the Most Influential Student of the Year by Oscar-ACJ Awards, OAU. 2015 Award for the Most Influential Student of the Year by Law Students’ Society, OAU. 2015 Award for the Outstanding Leadership by the Students Union, OAU. 2015 Award for the Most Outstanding Students’ Union Executive of the Year by OYA Awards, Nigeria. Apart from Isaac’s academic accolades, the young Sagamite skills and attributes includes: Advocacy, excellent communication, crisis and pressure management, first aid, result-driven, firm-character, team-playing and speaks English, Deutsch and Yoruba Language fluently. The South-East chapter of the All Progressives Congress says Igbo leaders who are opposing the probe of former President Goodluck Jonathan are desecrating the Igbo tradition. It said the Igbo leaders who are supporting the former President are in breach of the traditional admonition which forbids Igbo from identifying with thieves or alleged thieves. Several Igbo leaders, including the Chairman of the Igbo Leaders of Thought, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, and the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Joe Nwaorgu, had in recent times opposed President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to restrict the planned probe to Jonathan’s administration. They insisted that Jonathan’s government should not be probed unless other previous administrations were included. However, reacting to the development on Sunday, the South-East APC, in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, told the Igbo leaders to stop desecrating Igbo tradition by supporting Jonathan. In the statement titled, ‘Stop desecration of Igbo tradition’, Okechukwu wondered why Jonathan’s defence was being championed by Igbo leaders, rather than the ex-President’s Ijaw kinsmen. The statement read, “The South-East zonal chapter of the APC calls on Igbo leaders, in the name of defending our dear ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, to stop the desecration of the long standing Igbo tradition and by extension, our revered ancestors. “Our worry is that the timeless Igbo tradition which admonishes us not to steal, and not to defend or associate with rogues or even alleged rogues is being flagrantly breached by prominent Igbo sons, crying more than Ijaw sons and daughters. “We have yet to find any sentence where any of them, even our revered icon, erudite and constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, in any form denied the mindless, pervasive and unbridled corruption which pervaded ex-President Jonathan’s regime.” Okechukwu equally condemned Nwaorgu’s advice that Buhari should extend the probe to the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The South-East APC spokesman accused Nwaorgu of deliberately blocking a planned meeting between Buhari and Ohanaeze Ndigbo before the elections. According to Okechukwu, Buhari conveyed his request for the meeting, where he intended to “chart the way forward with Ndigbo”, in a letter forwarded to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo secretariat in November 2014. The statement added, “May we appeal to Chief Joe Nwaorgu and his cohorts, if actually the interest of Ndigbo is what they are fighting for, to climb down from their high horses and stop the hate narratives and embrace the true position that Ndigbo stands to gain more from President Buhari’s regime, if ever we gained from our massive support to former President Jonathan.” The South-East APC argued that “Ndigbo like all hardworking groups in the country” stand to gain more from Buhari’s administration than Jonathan’s, which it accused of dispensing patronage to cronies. The party added that the Igbo were more likely to realise their wish to have one of their own as President of the country through Buhari. According to Okechukwu “The Igbo ethnic merchants and gossip-terrorists who bandy all manners of conspiracy hate theories against President Buhari must come to terms that an eight-year tenure of the man of uncommon integrity is the surest route to the actualisation of President of Igbo extraction, given the zoning convention.” http://www.punchng.com/news/corruption-apc-knocks-igbo-leaders-for-defending-jonathan/ |

The Real Madrid sensation says he began to play football simply out of enjoyment and did not consider himself a special talent. Cristiano Ronaldo admits he never truly believed he would become a professional footballer when he first began to play the game as a child. The Real Madrid and Portugal sensation began to train with Andorinha on his home island of Madeira in his youth, but says he never considered himself a special talent. "In my family, we all love football. I remember that one day I was playing in the street and my father told me: 'Why don't you train at the club when I go to work?'. I said yes, why not? So I started to play," Ronaldo told Herbalife. "I went to train every day and I enjoyed being part of the team. My father was always there for me. "At first I felt I was different to the other children. I never thought I was going to become a professional or go to Manchester United, Real Madrid or Sporting. "At that time I just wanted to enjoy it and it wasn't going through my head that I had talent. At first I didn't think that." However, the former Old Trafford ace admits it took just a few short years of training before he began to visualise a career at the very top. "After three or four years I started to think: 'I want to play there'. I got to watch all of the matches and I dreamed of wearing the shirts." Ronaldo and Madrid face Tottenham in their latest pre-season outing in the Audi Cup in Munich on Tuesday. www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3266/spain/2015/08/02/14084812/ronaldo-i-never-thought-id-be-a-professional?ICID=HP_HN_4
