This is turning out to be a nice thing. Kudos to Jaymichael. I love islands too. Would love to be there someday.

What about the ocean encroachment being experienced at the Bar Beach and Alpha Beach? Anything like that on your island?
No, Our Island is not bordered by the ocean but by the Badagry creek. But the waters do rise and recede with tides and ebb.

Do you know the place well, or you have someone (a resident) to show you around. Just yesterday evening, I was accosted by some elders and youth (that do not know me) that I why should I be taking pictures at random. I told them a village that I have a house and have lived for about two years and I have been visiting for about 15 to 20 years now. I told them I know all of them, I called Alhaji that even measured our land, called my friends which include a son of Baale Ifaako. They asked why don't they know me na? I told them na low profile things I dey run, they apologized and told me that I am one of them but they don't know me and they thought I have malicious intentions and I am free to do anything and question anything and anyone suspicious.
They are friendly, docile, laid-back. Strangers are welcome buy strange faces looking around may be looked at with suspicious tendency.

Thanks. Whatever you have that you think is inadequate, is what some people DREAM about.

Thanks. My preference would be to stay on the island. We can't be carrying equipment to and fro daily.

One question though, do you have fishermen on the island?
Plenty, most of those Eguns, (Agoyin) are fishermen.

Tomaro Junior and Senior Secondary school. Solar powered elecricity provided by the Lagos State Government. The school and staff quater is powered 24/7 with solar energy. Kudos to Lagos State Government past and present for this initiative. More needs to be done sha.

I would like to come and shoot my film there. It sounds like the perfect setting although I was considering Cross River state before.

Would a film crew be welcome ? What about the area boys ? Generator noise in the nights? Any hotel around?
Film crew used to come to the island to shoot. The late Manager (that owned the vast land now sold to be used for industrial use) used to invite film crews to the island. There are small chalets but Apapa is not far and there are lots of hotels there. Generator noise is no problem. Not all the villagers switch on gen set besides, the community is not an affluent one.

To make your visit worthwhile, you should try to include the one hour hike to tarkwa bay beach in your itinerary trust me, it is worth it. It will take you more than a day to explore the island from Sagbokoji, to irede (manager) to tomaro Ituagan, Agoyin, ikoata, Abagbo to Tarkwa bay.

True, there are some shanties and many houses without toilet facilities, the writer stated things from his own lens as a reporter while I state things as an islander.

This is genius. Looks like the old charcoal iron, but better.
The gas gives off blue flame which doesn't stain clothes. Those electric iron spoils the coils of generators.

I have to sand paper and wash the face of the iron to remove rust and dirt. I will place one iron on the fire, while pressing with the other one. When that one cools, I will press with the one on the gas stove instead of using only one iron and waiting for it to get hot. This system irons perfectly without stain if you use it well. The 3kg cylinder refills for 800 naira and it lasts many months. You can use it for a year sef. I will show you as I progress in the course of the ironing.

Nice work with the pics. But next time when the lighting of an area is contrasting. Like the sun being brighter than everything else in d pic. Use the hdr mode on your camera to avoid everything being black. Like d first pic
Got it, thanks.

babesta:
I,my 4month old baby boy and my husband to be are staying at His mom's new house because we are financially down(for Now). And becos his mom has bin helpful financially and otherwise, I feel indepted.
But the confusion here is that his mom wants me doing the house chores everyday plus cooking dinners for at least 8people#siblings in the house. and each time my husband complains to his mom to take things easy on me, there's tension and hatred in the home. he even said I should stop cooking for everyone that we ll start cooking separately and all that. But I fear all these will bounce back on me each time he leaves for work. So confused
It will bounce back on you, no doubt about that. That is one of the drawbacks of living in a family house. Just pray for GOD to give you the strength for the chores. My Pastor usually say "aragbe laye" To live in this life, there is always a price to pay somewhat. You and your husband should see that as the price to pay. You won't stay in the family house forever. Your doing the chores diligently might even endear you to your Mother inlaw and your in-laws which may attract greater rewards to you and your husband. Talk to your husband that you can do the chores very well and he should allow you to. Always pray for him to experience financial breakthrough so that you both can move out of the family house. Even if your mother in-law isn't financially helpful, it is still your duty as a wife and your attitude and disposition is what will determine if his family and Siblings will assist you with the workload. This is your opportunity to prove that you are a good wife.
This is just my piece of advice.

Thanks jaymichael for turning lemons to lemonade.... But then this is a really beautiful island, there are obviously lots of solid ground to walk and build on, u can even sink a borehole n get clean water, although d Island definitely needs health care facilities and a well equipped school. This is a far cry from the Niger Delta riverine communities oh..... No light, no water, no land to walk or build on, no school, no health centers, no nothing, in fact most don't even have solid jetty to anchor especially the Ilaje, ijaw and Itsekiri communities. And they have the same potentials like tomaro to b really beautiful places wit just a bit of extra effort by stakeholders. ......nice beach and seaside views....... Hnmmmm my dear Niger Delta which way forward?
It is a very sandy Island. Apart from the tranquility, another factor I love is the safety. Tomaro is very safe, you can walk around anytime of the day and night. You can come out at 12,1,2,3,4 AM without fear of Robbers. The waterways are also very safe. No kidnapping and hostage taking. You can take a boat ride to Ojo, Badagry even at night. Tomarobis very safe.
The schools are not bad, but the small clinic donated by the Americans Needs a major upgrade. The community needs to be connected to the National grid.
