Source: .com.ng Since Friday, people turning to the websites of Canada’s Parliament, its Supreme Court, the city of Ottawa and the Ottawa and Toronto police forces have been occasionally greeted by a gyrating, anthropomorphic banana or, more frequently, an error message. The disruptions were prompted by a hacker or a small group of hackers supporting the cause of an Ottawa teenager who was charged last spring with making hoax telephone calls throughout North America. The calls led the police in a number of provinces and states to send out tactical squads in response to supposed emergencies, a practice known as swatting. Using the name Aerith, with slight variations, the hacker claimed responsibility for the website disruptions in emails and a posting online. The sender claimed to be affiliated with the shadowy online collective Anonymous. When asked by email how many people were involved, Aerith, who said that he or she was in Brazil, replied, “We act as a group.” At some point in the past few weeks, the hacker contacted the family of the Ottawa teenager, who cannot be identified under Canadian law, claiming to have information that would vindicate him. The youth was charged with 60 criminal counts related to the episodes after an investigation by Canadian police forces and the F.B.I. During a weekend news conference, the boy’s father said he discovered what he described as law enforcement eavesdropping equipment hidden in compact fluorescent light bulbs in his home, based on information provided by the hackers. Neither the father nor the hacker, however, has released any of the information that they say will show the teenager was falsely accused. Along with the banana, which first appeared on Ottawa’s municipal website on Friday, Aerith posted statements denouncing the city’s police and provided personal information about the lead investigator and the city’s police chief. The hacker did not knock down every site. A spokesman for the Supreme Court said it temporarily shut down its site as a protective measure. The site failures varied considerably in length. A memo to House of Commonsemployees said that its site was down for five minutes. The Ottawa Police Service website went down over the weekend and was still out of service late Monday afternoon. The city’s site, which had recovered, was again briefly out of service late in the day on Monday. Gabriella Coleman, a professor at McGill University in Montreal who studies Anonymous and other hackers said this hacker did not appear to be involved with the larger group. She said that usually a broad group of hackers would soon join in with attacks and other gestures of support. “This is not what happened here,” she said. “He doesn’t seem to have gained any kind of support from existing groups.” |
Source: http://www..com.ng/ The Taraba House of Assembly on Monday mandated Sani Danladi to serve as Acting Governor of the state, while also appointing Mark Useni as its new speaker. Mr. Danladi was on Friday reinstated by the Supreme Court as the Deputy Governor after winning the case against his impeachment about two years ago. Mr. Danladi’s mandate followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the assembly, Joseph Kunini, under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, and seconded by Abubakar Jugulde. According to Mr. Kunini, the motion was prompted by the recent removal of the former acting governor of the state by the Supreme Court, which created a leadership vacuum. He said Section 190(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, mandated the House to elevate Mr. Danladi to acting capacity, pending the recovery of the ailing governor of the state, Mr Danbaba Suntai. The assembly also appointed Mr. Useni as its speaker following the resignation of the former speaker, Josiah Kente. Mr. Useni’s appointment came as a result of a motion moved by Kizito Bonzena and seconded by Hamman Adama, both of Zing and Bali constituencies. Mr. Kente reportedly resigned his appointment as speaker due to what he tagged a threat to impeach him. He said as a law abiding citizen, he would never allow anything that would cause rancour and violence in the house. Source: http://www..com.ng/ |
Suspected armed robbers at the weekend stormed the law firm of one of the plaintiffs in the suit challenging the eligibility of President Goodluck Jonathan to re-contest in the 2015 general elections, Wahab Olatoye, and stole most of the files containing documents to be used in the eligibility suit filed at a Federal High Court in Abuja. Olatoye alongside one Adejumo Ajagbe, approached the court seeking an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney-General of Federation (AGF) from allowing Jonathan and Sambo to seek re-election for their respective offices in 2015. While talking to newsmen, Olatoye said his office burgled on Friday night and vital documents he is using to pursue his case against the President and other vital documents were taken away. He added that the crime had since been reported to the Garki Police station. “It is really a great surprise to me, when I was called on Saturday morning that my office had been burgled by yet to be identified persons. It was my office alone that was burgled out of all the offices in the plaza. The thieves came in through the ceiling and ransacked all the files in my office. “Although, they made away with some amount of money I left in the office, they also took away some documents, especially the ones I am using in pursuing my case against the eligibilty of President Goodluck Jonathan. “As a plaintiff in the matter and a legal practitioner, there are some documents I need to hand over to my lawyers which I kept in the office. All my computer systems in the office were also destroyed, the office safe was also destroyed. “The matter have been reported to the FCDA police station in Garki, and the police have promised to come around on Monday morning for further investigation”, Olatoye stated. Olatoye and Ajagbe had anchored their suit against Jonathan on the provisions of sections 132(1), 135(2)(a) and (b), 137(1)(b), 142(1) and (2) of the Constitution and the Supreme Court decisions. The plaintiffs argued that by the virtue of constitutional provisions, the President and the Vice President elected in the same election and sworn into office on the same date and ceremony were taken to have been elected for one single term of four years. In his usual routine, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has lashed out at President Goodluck Jonathan again describing him as “supervising a highly corrupt government” even though he (Jonathan) personally remains a good man. He also claimed that “there is no democracy yet in Nigeria.” The governor, who spoke in Abuja on Saturday, insisted that he had no personal squabbles with President Jonathan, adding that if governance could be separated from the President, he (Jonathan) “remains a good man.” He, however, regretted that the President “is supervising a highly corrupt government.” He described the form of government being practised in Nigeria today as diarchy. While reacting to the invasion of the National Assembly by the police on Thursday, Amaechi described the action as uncivilised. He said the actions of the police in recent times had shown that they had been pocketed by the Presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party. He said, “We don’t have democracy in Nigeria yet. What we have is diarchy. We don’t have a democracy. Diarchy is dictatorship. The Federal Government has appropriated the police as its personal property. The FG has taken over the police. See the way the police took over the National Assembly. By law, the police have no power to invade the National Assembly and they have no power to stop the Speaker from going in or out of the National Assembly complex. But they don’t obey law.” He insisted that his party, the All Progressives Congress, would not go to court if the PDP decided to rig the 2015 presidential elections.Instead of going to court, he said the APC would form a parallel government. He said, “What is the essence of going to court when the Federal Government don’t obey the law. That’s why the APC say we won’t go to the court any longer. If you rig us out, we would rig ourselves in; which means if you think you can rig us out in 2015, we will form our own government. We have met on that and we have agreed on that.We will instal our own government and there would be two governments. Source: http://www..com.ng/ |

"My husband told me that, if things don't change, he's thinking about a divorce." "We have nothing in common anymore." "She's not the same person I married. "We have so much going on, we simply don't hang out with one another." These are the common phrases I hear over and over when I work with couples in crisis. I expect to hear them. They are what I have prepared for. When I hear them coming from friends, however, it catches me off guard. It shouldn't, I know, but somehow I think that MY friends won't succumb to the pressures that lead to divorce. Yet, my friends are just as likely to divorce as are the people who come to see me. In my years of work, I have found several common denominators that everyone knows about, but it continually seems people don't pay attention to them. Not paying attention to these things inevitably leads to poor relationships and, many times, divorce. While there are any number of things that can lead to divorce, these five things are what I have found to be consistent among couples in conflict. 1. Busyness Kids in sports Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and every other Saturday. Mom and dad working late in the evening and then going to the gym when they can fit it in. This busyness kills relationships. Give up some things to make time for the important people in your life. You will never regret making relationships better. What you will regret is not making more time for loved ones.....
