Hello all. Please, what is a reasonable amount to show as proof of funds for SOWP for the spouse of a worker? The worker is on PGWP and has a good job with an okay salary. I can't seem to find POF information specific to temporary foreign workers.

It can be assigned to any visa officer in a designated location but since it is visit could be the office closest to you but the officer location you adressed it to doesn't matter.

IRCC na wah oh, last time I checked you can still qualify if you have job in TEER 4 and 5 so I was surprised they were refusing peeps with TEER 4 and 5 NOC code. They already changed the standard but left it in the IRCC website to mislead people. Thank God they have come out open to make it plain.

1st: To qualify for SOWP, your spouse must have a top skill in TEER 0 or 1 Occupation....which is hard to get for students just graduating
or the spouse must have TEER 2 or 3 Occupation that is in critical sectors like Natural and Applied Sciences, Construction,
Healthcare, Sports, Natural Resources and Military sectors. These are professional jobs that are not easy to come by.

(Student with IT/other non-critical sectors with Teer 2 to 3 Jobs cannot make their spouse qualify for SOWP. It's really crazy)

2nd: After achieving the above, the timeline on the PGWP must be 16 months in length for a spouse to apply for SOWP.

(The truth is that most Spouse will take like 6months to a year to get these jobs after the graduation if you remove 3 yrs permit from
that duration, the timeline on work permit is further reduced).

The typical 9ja does not like to play by the rules...they jump queues, overtake randomly etc so I am not surprised you wont like the comment. It is very expected.

Come on dont make it look like an impossible task, people get visit visa approved to visit student and working relative on Canada temporal permits, attend student graduations, visit to friends/relatives that are PR/Citizens etc. Even though we know US Visa makes it a lot easier but all of us cannot have US Visa. Also how many years have you been working considering you raised about 20m Naira with less than 500k salary without added document of other business income or property investment. Those VO guys they vex. GCMS note should give you more insight.

You may think your profile is solid but if they convert your salary to CAD, even a sec school student earns that in Canada in a week or less so you have to do beyond your job.

I suspect that the processing officer did not accept the explanation for the funds, a lot of things could have been flagged, I will suggest you request for your notes and tackle the reasons stated.

Just to chip in on POF backed by investment, some VOs will look at the earnings of the owner to gauge the capacity to raise the investment funds, if the earnings are not so strong then the ability to have raised the huge investment funds will be called into question.

Any or combination of these will suffice. The more the better.
1) Family (loved ones) with pics and evidence of relationship and how you impact their life e.g medical bills for your mum etc
2) Shares
3) Land or real properties with evaluation
4. Ongoing Program in University e.g NOUN
5. Existing Business that is profitableto you (you will need all the biz owner doc and tax)
6. Belonging to a group in church, volunteer group
7. Pension statement
8. Proof of Job you are returning to after your temporal stay in Caanda. Remember it is a temporal work permit you have and you need to have plan to come back except you are able to secure PR in the process.

I will advise one person to apply first while the other apply for SOWP.

This makes it easier as one will serve as home tie for the other.

When one of you have gotten it, the other can also apply after getting a SOWP or visit visa as the case maybe. Applying concurrently will reduce your hometies but on a 2nd thought Canada is in need of those professionals so they might also let a weak hometie situation pass if your source of wealth is convincing.

If she has a job offer with full job description, has pay slips, can print bank statement, works full time (at least 30 hrs a week) with a valid work permit, you are entitled to a spouse open work permit (sowp).

All foreign worker in Canada hold temporal permit so you will need home ties in terms of jobs, church position, business, family members, land/shares investment etc in Nigeria to show that after the duration of your work via sowp, you will not have any issues to return home because you have investments. THIS IS VERY CRITICAL TO GETTING APPROVED!

You will also need small PoF (you can check the PoF amount on IRCC website for living expenses) based on the year you re applying for...for instance if she holds a one, two or three year work permit...have something reasonable that if in those years ..in case you dont have a job, that money will sustain you. The PoF should only be for you and your wife can also show it...it doesnt mean it must come from you. But if that is the case, she will also get an immigration letter to state that.

I really dont blame the West for ensuing these process, that's how they ensure responsible society for all to live well but here in Nigeria, we born anyhow, give all our money to church and other things and now say God go provide on zero level. In the West, your bank statement must provide 1st before you talk about God.

If you are using same account your student hubby used as PoF, then calculate what is left on his school fees first and his living expenses before adding what should be your own living expenses.

Ideally have between 20k to 25k CAD in total fund from you and your hubby statement. That's my opinion. Read my analysis up there under Bobomaigida comment.

I think it's more complicated and I think you can learn from my mistake. I had more than this amount when Naira was more valuable and it was refused.

Factor to look at:

1) Have you used the same account to do PoF before? If yes, the VO will consider the amount remaining to be spent for the student already in Canada and deduct it from this amount 1st to know how much is available for the couple that is joining the principal applicant that is a student. You are only free from this if you used a different account for the principal applicant (student) when they are applying.

2) How long is the principal applicant visa. In my own case, we just got an approval extension from a year to 2 yrs course so the financial requirement for PoF technically also should rise.

Pls consider these two factors when putting up PoF for SOWP else those guys will be waiting to screw you up.

So the more fund you can show from both sides that takes care of both bills, the better.

Congratulations, if you have all the required funds in your account that will be better, but it does not stop you from showing the two accounts so long as they funded, and you can justify the sources of funds with documents.

The minimum you will need will be $7,555 CAD broken down

Living exp = $5,055
Flight Fee = $1,500
Exigencies =$1,000

Using XE converter today that translate to N8,031,581 so you need to show a minimum of this amount and then explain how you raised the funds.

I was generally unaware of the practice where people pay for proof of funds (POF) to banks. After doing a bit of research, I found it absolutely mind-blowing.

It now makes sense why someone would pay a "Facebook visa agent" between 2 to 5 million naira for a study or visitor’s visa—applications that cost about $100 to $200 CAD. 🤔

This isn’t even for permanent residency applications!

The case is crazy. Now, I understand why FlowMama was upset when I criticized someone who mentioned they used a "Facebook visa agent" and got a 5-year ban.

She said I have no right to question or talk since I’m not funding anyone’s visa.

My God, I get it now. So, banks charge people to create fake POF for visa applications?

I can’t believe what’s happening. I see these Facebook visa agents advertising "account statements/POF as part of the visa package."

No wonder some people were upset when I talked about the risks of using Facebook visa agents and getting banned for submitting fake POF documents.

Well, if you use a Facebook visa agent and end up with a 5 to 10-year ban, don’t blame people like me for speaking the truth.

For instance, the United Kingdom reportedly issues bans of up to 10 years. Yet, some will still attack others for exposing fraud.

Remember: If you’re submitting POF for any visa category, make sure it matches the actual source of your funds. Many agents will mess you up, and you’ll end up paying the price.

The situation is worse than I imagined.

Advice:
- If you pay a bank for POF, ensure you have:

1. At least $20,000 CAD when coming to Canada for living expenses, rent, and food. Most new students struggle to find jobs, especially since certain sectors are dominated by Middle Eastern and South East Asian workers.

2. An in-demand skill to secure a job after school and improve your chances of getting permanent residency (PR). Without it, you’ll struggle.

3. Your tuition fully paid or ready to be paid in your bank account. Otherwise, you’ll suffer like others who came unprepared.

You can’t learn programming that quickly, but over time, with good experience, you can move into consulting.

Why do you think IRCC implemented changes to the system? Starting November 8, 2024, students must apply for a new study permit by extending their current one if they plan to change institutions.

You need to program the end in sight when taking your 1st step.

Like someone said, 1st thing 1st is to look through the pgwp list for the courses you are looking at. Geography plus IT based related course for College which is in Canada PGWP are Geographic Information System (GIS) or other related that are in high demand

So get to that list and from the answer you can trace your program options.

Register it with your email account and every month you will pay 35- 45 CAD.. but you can use it for free if you are coming to stay temporarily. To solve your wife TEER is very easy. The job offer she has should have her managers name, contact email or number and business name with address. Let the job offer state the job role and the job descriptions with the pay either per year or per hour. Also, the job type (wether it's full time or part time). Note that the minimum standard for full time job is at least 30hours per week by IRCC. Then Look for the closest NOC code that aligns with that job offer from TEER 0 to 5 and state it in your application but it is not about what you say, its about the validity of everything you attached.
