Also she can carry the proofs of the reasons e.g marriage certificate and affidavits plus newspaper declaration. Bobomaigida: Firstly please when you get in, go and renew your passport and do the 10 years validity.
Renewing your passport does not affect the visa stamped on the old passport, you have to stick them together when travelling. If you doing name change, make sure it is being done for a VALID reason so that when you are asked you can defend it. As for the airline, it will be best to speak with them to hear their feedback on the issue, though it should not be problem especially when the change was based on solid reason. You have still enter CAD with the four months validity, but it is advisable you explore renewing the passport whilst you are here. |

Work Permit does not give you access to enter a country from border, it only gives you temporary status when inside the country. You would always need a TRV to enter Canada via any border. Hence, ensure you request for your new Nigerian passport when you leave Canada to Nigeria. Ensure you have the new passport before you return back to Canafa and attach it with the old passport where your Canada TRV is stamped, both should suffice for your return to Canada. However, ensure to reapply for a new TRV later on the new passport so you can discard the old one finally. AlphaLady: Good evening, Nairaland. Please, I need your expertise on an issue I am having.
I am set to travel to Nigeria in November for a week (something very important), My passport validity is going to be 4 months by the time I plan on returning. Given that canada has a 6 months validity on passport. But my work permit is set to expire next year, so i still have a valid visa. The problem is with the passport. How do I go about this?
1. If I decide to do passport renewal in Nigeria. Will my new passport be linked to the old one? Also, would my visa validity in the old one still stand.
2. For the passport, I plan on also doing a name change. Would that still affect my visa and old passport?
3. I already booked my flight before realizing the whole walaha. Will the airline allow me use my return ticket with a change of name on my passport?
4. Some people said that since I have a valid work permit till next year March, that it doesn't matter. I can still enter Canada with less than 6 months passport validity. How true is this please??
Thank you guys as I await a response.
Please treat as urgent. |

It will start with study permits approved on or after November 1st 2024. Canada is now subtly putting your destiny in your hands, infact they may not approve your study permit application as an Intl Student if it is nit linked to the labour list that is tagged long term shortage. So if you apply for a College course that is not in that list please cancel your application now. No let them go by mistake approve am. Lovebuddy: Does this include those that applied this month |

The best analysis I have read about the Canada situation, you really broke down the economics to a lay man understanding. Kenn55: What has happened over the last 2 years is overpopulation. They let in too many people that is now affecting the system. It is not that there is no job but the amount of students chasing the jobs are unprecedented. For example, before now, let's say the number of jobs available for students is 10 and students were 12 so only 2 students probably don't get jobs. Now there is still 10 jobs available for students but the number of students have increased from 12 to 36, you see the problem?
It is the fault of the government to bring in too many people within a short time frame. They messed up big time and they are going to be wiped out in the next election. This is why they are now trying to correct the issue by reducing the numbers of people coming in and tightening the entire immigration system but it is too late. It's going to take another 2 years to bring the ratio of jobs to people at a balanced level.
Having said that the students themselves are also to blame. The government can argue that they gave visa to students who demonstrated that they are financially capable to study without work. Every student who got a visa convinced the visa officer through their financial statements that they have the required POF so why are they not using it? The 20hr work a week was supposed to be jara to students and not for raising money to live in the country that is why you have to show the POF without considering money realized from potential working.
Our resilience and CANDO spirit in Nigeria is both a blessing and a problem because it makes us overdo things. Because of what Nigeria has put us through we believe we can survive in any situation without realizing the peculiarities of different situations. There is no justification for someone not capable to go to another man's country as a student. A citizen can fall back on government benefits to stay afloat when kasala burst but a student is on their own after all you showed millions in your account before coming.
Abroad is not for everyone. Nigeria is not smiling but if you don't have the financial strength to make a successful move then stay back and fight the government instead, especially when you are going on a visa that is not a PR. Right now, there is no longer a guarantee that students will get a work permit after graduation as they are now trying to link work permit to labor market. People should stop gambling, it could end up badly for them. |

I think this situation has been properly answered by someone here. Do a webform update to them about your new USA visa and your passport and NIN. These should speed up your processing under CAN Plus if you applied alone. Trydifferentjok: Hello everyone,
I applied for a Canada visit visa back in March with the intention of visiting my wife who is now studying in Canada. During this period, the visitor visa processing time from Nigeria on the IRCC page was 164 days which came to about early-mid September for a visa decision. At the time, I already had a U.S. visa appointment slated for April, and I knew that the Canada visa process is usually smoother and quicker with a valid U.S. visa but I chose to apply in March anyway because I truly wasn’t sure I would be granted the U.S. visa, and I didn’t want to delay my Canada visa application further.
Well, I was later granted the U.S. visa in April, nearly a month after submitting my Canada visa application, and til date, there has been no response from them (now well past the 164 day period). I submitted a web form not long after securing my U.S. visa to inform IRCC of the update in my status, but still no luck.
Has anyone else experienced similar delays lately, and do you suggest I reach out to IRCC for updates and/or to inform them of my valid U.S. visa again?
Thanks so much. |

There is a reason visa application is segmented that way per region for easy analysis/assessment of Applicants financial and asset stability in their respective region/residence. I expect that anyone applying from UAE must have valid work permit residence and be doing well according to the UAE social status. They can easily see this from your earnings. If you fall below the standard class of course they will categorize you under not financially stable or viable which means you may be thinking of japaaing to Canada without returning back. In other words you must be well established in UAE and even have properties/assets/business to stand a chance. funkyy598: Visa applications submitted from Nigeria are often directed to Nairobi, Kenya, while for Afghanistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, UAE, and Yemen, they are directed to Abu Dhabi. If you’re not applying for PR or a work permit, Abu Dhabi ,UAE is known for issuing this refusal line for student and visit visa — at least two of my friends who applied from Dubai received the same reason below but the third person came back to Nigeria and applied and got the visa ..l do not know why Abu Dhabi is difficult !!

A lot of provinces have shut down post-graduation path to PR for students except for MBA and Masters program. For instance, just in September 17th or so, NB announced a halt of their PNP programme for Student connection because they have reached there caps. Na survival of the fittest now. uchennay: You argue blindly sometimes. Please use your inner thoughts, because the mere fact that the agent denied receiving any message is a red flag. Let me give you some advice: as you travel to Canada on a visitor visa, encourage your husband to focus on the PR route, because PR is no longer guaranteed for students and u can see ur visit visa duration is link to ur spouse study duration which maximum 2 years. Even the PGWP will be a significant challenge ahead, as Canada is targeting visitor visas and students to reduce the numbers and limit the path to PR. I wish you all the best! |

Summary put, stop going for schools in traditional attractive provinces like Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia etc. Go to other provinces like NB, NS, NFL & l, SK, PE etc. sternakin: How can students improve their chances of getting Canada Study visa?
Canada has adopted a Zero Net Growth model for allocating study permits this year — for every student who leaves the country, one more can enter. Here what you need to do to maximise your chances of getting a student visa.
In January, 2024 Canada capped the number of visas it will issue to international students. Now, it has revised the final allocation of attestation letters, a mandatory document for the issuance of study permits for international students by a province or territory.
Notably, some provinces have been allocated more attestation letters than others, meaning that despite Canada’s cap on visas, students can increase their chances of getting a visa if they choose their destination carefully.
Here is how:
Canada has adopted a Zero Net Growth model for allocating study permits under the national cap this year, signifying a one-for-one replacement policy — for every student who leaves the country, one more can enter.
According to the revised allocation, provinces and territories in Canada can issue a total of 552,095 attestation letters, with an estimated approval of 291,914 study permits, a 28% decrease compared to the previous year.
Moreover, around 20% students in the current national cap will be those who apply for an extension of their study permit each year.
There are also exemptions for specific student categories such as primary and secondary school students, and masters’ and doctoral degree students The number of such students was around 140,000 in 2023, and is expected to remain the same this year.
Examining provincial allocations key:
Students have historically preferred study in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta provinces. Ontario’s Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and BC’s Surrey and Vancouver have been the top destinations.
“Out of 10 students, 7 or 8 prefer these three provinces,”
Now, students should instead prioritise provinces and territories that have seen a substantial increase in attestation letters and, consequently, study permits.
Despite overall cap, some provinces see increased allocations. Alberta received an allocation of 40,894 attestation letters, leading to a projected approval of 24,537 study permits (SPs). This marks a 10% increase from the previous allocation. Similarly, Quebec was allocated 1,17,917 letters, compared to 72,716 earlier, also resulting in a 10% increase of projected SPs approved (43,629).
Saskatchewan received an allocation of 15,054 attestation letters, representing a 10% increase, with a projected 7,226 SPs to be approved.
Newfoundland saw an allocation of 3,153, again a 10% increase from the previous year, with approval of 1,419 SPs projected. Nunavut received 333 allocations this year, marking a staggering 6,567% uptick from 2023, with a projected SPs at 200. Similarly, Northwest Territories received 333 allocations, also reflecting a remarkable 4,900% increase from 2023, with a projected SPs at 200.
Although Nova Scotia experienced an increase in allocation letters from 12,906 to 20,378, the projected SPs approval rate remained unchanged at 7,744. Finally, Yukon also witnessed a significant increase of 205 per cent in allocation, with 417 attestation letters issued and a projected SPs of 250.
Look beyond traditional destinations:
Experts suggest while Ontario remains a preferred choice due to its large allocation, considering less-fancied provinces might yield better results. Ontario with 2,35,000 attestation letters allocated, projects to issue roughly 141,000 SPs — a 41% decrease as compared to 2023. Given the sheer number of applications that this province receives, the chances of rejection are very high.
Similarly, British Columbia has experienced an 18% decrease in allocations.
In a nutshell, while the revised allocations may pose challenges, strategic planning and exploration of diverse study destinations can significantly improve students’ visa success rates in Canada. |
