Don't mind those enemies of this country. Every good news about this country gets them angry. Relocate to their country of origin, they won't. Because no true citizen of this country will behave the way they do.
Socialism is Africa's problem especially in Nigeria where everything is government run. Dangote will enjoy first mover advantage but I expect more private investment in the refinery end of the oil and gas sector. Competition drives down prices as seen with telecoms deregulation in the early 2000's. The role of the government should be to provide security of lives and properties through law enforcement and providing a strong safety net for people who may be struggling.

STOP TALKING LIKE A DUNCE. You people need to get it out of your THICK SKULLS that the 'GOVERNMENT' is father christmas that is meant to provide everything for you.

A properly functioning economy relies heavily on the private sector and private investors to provide services, while the government's role is to provide regulatory oversight, basic infrastructure etc. This whole idea that everything is down to ''GOVERNMENT'' is what is killing you people. That is why nobody wants to come up with any ideas to do anything. You are all waiting for ''Government''. RIDICULOUS PEOPLE.

The other day someone was blaming the GOVERNMENT for not building factories to manufacture ''toothpick'', instead of us importing same.

HOW THE FCK IS THE GOVT'S JOB TO BUILD FACTORIES? IT IS YOUR JOB.

The USA govt does not build factories or refineries. These are all private sector activities. But in Nigeria, everybody sits on their fat ass waiting for GOVERNMENT to do everything.

Helpless, hopeless entities.
This your vex make brain is so on point. We as a people can be delusional sometimes, FG has 4 refineries which have never exceeded 50% production capacity in almost 30 years. Someone as come in to do his own and we are complaining. I expect that as soon as Dangote completes this refinery, we may have more private investment in this sector, especially with modular refineries which are cheaper to build.

So Nigeria is going to depend on a private refinery to stop importation of fuel.....Na wah for my country.....FTC
Is that strange to you? I'd rather have a private refinery which works and solves our issue than FG run refinery that has not worked since the late 80's.

TravelRe: Dubai Tram: Why Don't We Have This Mode Of Public Transport In Nigeria? (Photos) by jeebz: 5:17am On Dec 13, 2019
CaptainFM1:
Trams track can be built within vehicle roads. There's a way they manage the two together.
Long stretch roads like Oshodi-Apapa express road, Ikorodu road etc can easily utilise trams in the middle instead of BRT.
Light rail is suited for such purpose while trams will work in class B roads such Herbert Macaulay or Murtala Muhammed Road on the mainland. Trams are usually low budget and cheaper than LRT due to specialization.
Imagine a tram service between Yaba under bridge and Unilag or Oyinbo market, that would basically cover Yaba LCDA and would be profitable if properly managed.
TravelRe: Dubai Tram: Why Don't We Have This Mode Of Public Transport In Nigeria? (Photos) by jeebz: 12:40pm On Dec 12, 2019
Obiaksnews:
This system of transportation was planned for while the blue print of the city was being drawn, but down here how many cities have blue prints ? and even when they do, how many execute such blue prints. If such transport system is to be introduced in Nigeria, the money the govt would use to relocate structures it will demolish in order to have way to build these tracks is more than what it would actually cost to build such transport system. But non the less, if the government is really determined to modernize our cities, then it must start thinking of alternative transport systems such as this.
This is the Crux of the matter. It is pretty difficult to build trams and light rail systems in a city without proper planning. Many roads in Lagos are narrow and cannot accommodate trams. Also, how do we fund a project like this, does the state implement some form of tax or does it borrow money.

All this socialist policy can't work

Remove subsidy , use the money give 5 million naira loan to all graduate after NYSC degree and NYSC certificate as bond

NYSC should introduce a 12 months skill trainings for graduates instead of stupid CDS ..

Training on producing goods n services " we can export or replacing the ones we import " ...

This is key ....do this and our GDP growth would be amazing in 10 years ...70% might fail ...but the impact of that 30% that succeed would employ the ones who failed
I agree with your argument giving handouts but provide an enabling environment for people to create jobs. However, granting 5 million naira loans to Corps members may be a challenge. They currently exists a foundation that handles that: The NYSC Foundation @ https://nyscfoundation.org.ng. It is a non-profit registered with the CAC that grants loans to corps member to start businesses.
TravelRe: LASTMA To Track Traffic Violators With Mobile Device by jeebz:
For this to actually work effectively, Lagos State has to be able to issue it's own driver's license or have access to the FRSC driver's license.
LASG/LASTMA can make use of space with the LCDA headquarters and can build on the existing LASSRA database.

He is right about health and education but wrong on agriculture.

He could have mentioned 20th century agriculture that reduced the number of farmers while increasing their produce as in USA.

But the best prevention from diseases is enough healthy and cheap food so that you don't have to spend more on diseases.

Medicine and innovation do not work on empty belly. We saw that during Ebola emergency. It is what you eat before diseases that matters because you may not be able to retain new food after.

This is why doctors and nurses order families to get their sick relatives fed before. Treatment.

Actually, food is all some people need and they rush them to hospital to burden over worked doctors, nurses and health workers and Assistants.

Why won't they be frustrated?
Industrialization is also based on the whole agriculture and allied industries. Ethanol is produced from corn and cassava can be used as an alternative/additive to petrol. Hemp is a utility plant that can be used for a variety of products.

I disagree with your POV. Lagos state has the funding, they wouldn't start a project of this magnitude without conducting a comprehensive risk assessment of unstable FX.

A state of more than 20 million people should be able to fund a metro-rail programme...period.
The premise of your argument is a flawed. The population of a state is not a significant factor in determining if it can fund a rail line. Lagos state primarily generates revenue through corporate taxes and given the recurring and capital expenses the state has, corporate taxes may not be enough especially with the slow economic growth. In some other cities around the world, infrastructure projects are funded and maintained by taxes/tolls. Projects are bound to overrun due dates and expenditure, however as I stated in my post, I didn't expect a single line to take over 10 years to complete.
TravelRe: Lagos Metro Rail: An Overview Of The True State Of Lagos Rail - PHOTOS by jeebz: 11:23pm On Nov 19, 2019
In addition to my earlier post, in order for Lagos to achieve mega-city status, it needs to have a great public transportation option. Not only should these lines be completed, they should have park and ride/bus transfer centers along the major stations. Also, tickets should be available for morning, afternoon, day and month and should be purchased online/mobile app/at the terminal to reduce the chances of hoarding and corruption.

@ Op
As a concerned Lagosian, I am disappointed at the slow pace of construction of the first of 6 rail lines for the Light Rail service. However, as the poster above me alluded the major issue is with the funding and the terrain of the track. The track follows a path where it run along the road, elevated and across water. I believe that if this line can be launched soon enough, if will provide a relief for those staying in the Surulere to Badagry axis since it would reduce car traffic.

If EFCC can answer those questions affirmatively, then they have a case to work with, otherwise they won't be able to move forward. This premise "should" hold for most cases especially if you say innocent until proven guilty.

The off-campus apartment I picked has requested that I bring a check or money order for the first month's rent before keys are handed over to me. I made security deposits sometime ago with GTB Naira Mastercard and payment was received and apartment secured.

I requested that they allow me to make this payment by cash or dollar card (which I will have on me on arrival) but they said that I could use these to make subsequent payments but first payment must be by check or money order. They also gave me a mailing address should I want to mail the payment ahead of time.

The challenge is that I will arrive in my destination city around 5:30pm and banks are closed at this time. What can I do to have this check or money order on me or mailed to them before arrival to avoid sleeping on the streets on my first day? grin
You should be able to get into a mall when you arrive. Many malls/retail outlets offer Money Order as a service. All you need to do is to get a retail outlet/mall close to the apartment.

EducationRe: IELTS,GRE Or TOEFL, Which Is Better? by jeebz: 11:52am On Jul 29, 2017
MamaOO:
Those exams are for different purposes. You cannot compare them.

GRE(Graduate Record Exam): is for people who are applying into graduate school in the United States. This exam can only be taken for admission into Graduate School. Even Americans take it, and the GRE is of different types. The general GRE and the GRE subject tests. Sometimes schools will demand a combination of GRE and the TOEFL for international stations.

TOEFL(Test of English As a Foreign Language): is for international students, both undergraduate and graduate applicants into schools in the US.

Schools in the US rarely accept or ask for IELTS.

IELTS: is used by counties like Canada, UK and Australia and it's used for both educational and also immigrational puposes.

TOEFL and GRE is not used for immigration all purposes.
IELTS is gaining traction in the US, many universities accept it as we speak.

Yes you can fly January as long as you have a legit work excuse to give immigration officers, your problem should be your school, you should write your school and start you deferring process. I think if you can afford it you fly December stay for 2 weeks before you finally fly for 2018 session. This is solely my contribution and doesn't hold water
In addition, your school will need to issue you a new I-20 that you would present to the CBP officer at the POE.

Really? So importers of products we are trying hard to produce here so as to help indigenous producers and diversify our economy get the 305 rate, while students that are going to gain expert knowledge in order to build the economy and add more value get the inflated rate? Our priorities are just awesome. This flagrant lack of respect for education in this country is her greatest undoing.
.
Lemme disagree with you a bit. It makes for the CBN to sell Form M at a lower rate that PTA/Form A as the products being imported via Form M have a ready direct impact on the economy. That is not to say education is not valued, however a significant amount of students a who go to study abroad do not return to the country.

Well that was the intention in the first place to reduce the disparity between the Parallel Market and the Bank Rates. Although, I think Form M for those who wanna import is less than 360.

GTB is not serious ooo. This means its a rate of 360 naira to 1dollar . That almost black market rate shocked....no?

Then there is no much value on doing PTA . Someone can as well buy from blackmarket. The only value i see here is maybe you are more guaranteed of authentic dollars but who really knows... I was under the impression PTA is more inline with offical rate ? (around 305 range )
No, 360 is the rate recommended by CBN to Banks to sell FOREX for PTA and Form A.

Hi everyone, the gurus in d house and all current graduate students abroad.
U guys are doing a great job. Please I need your candid advice.

Pls help your boy. I have a dynamic issue:

I intend to make a career transition into IT. I have an undergraduate degree in geography. (3.29/4 GPA) taking GRE in November.
I want to start an application for fall '18 I have been able to draw a list of 7 schools that I can get admitted into with my undergraduate degree. As I will have to take some prerequisite courses alongside my graduate coursework.

My question is can I get graduate assistantships (TA/RA)  considering my undergraduate background if I get admitted? Cos sincerely I cant foot all my bills if I will be sincere with myself. Or I should jejely do MS Geography or other related courses if its gonna be a mission impossible or almost impossible.

Thanks in anticipation bosses. !!!

Cc: Lagosismyhome and Texrem
Just apply first and get admitted. Even if you don't get RA/GA, you can get on campus jobs that can help you academically, career wise and financially.

Thank you
