Education / What Keeps You Going? by Jengbetiele: 8:49pm On Jan 13, 2016 |
Life they say has never been a bed of roses. Many a times when you look back on the giants you have slain to get to your present position you marvel at how far you have come. Most especially for people that fought so hard to ensure that their background doesn’t put their back on the ground. I am talking about categories of people born with either wooden, mud spoon or no spoon at all. In the midst of stress, betrayal, disappointments, uncertainties, failure and madness of each day, something(s) must have kept some of us going notwithstanding where we come from. Having reflected so much on this, I was able to pin point how I have been able to keep my head up against all odds. At times the dreadful fear of failure, and sometimes the desire to beat depression especially when you are at war with your environment rather than give in to it, at times nothing. I will forever be grateful to my parents. They taught me that strength is not about what I can do, but it's about overcoming what I thought I couldn't. Although I am grateful for where I am but, the fact that most times I feel like an under achiever I feel the thirst to do more and keep going even when the body seems weary from the scars and war piercings. This to an extent seems like a drive. Sometimes I am just down and under my duvet and all I want is to curl in a fetal position. Sometimes I need help habitually from a new person, different perspective. Many times I write, study, Netflix to still life’s harmful pressure Sometimes I breathe deeply and do what has to be done because I just have to. Sometimes it is trouble-free...There are days that just flow... no need for motivation I know for sure that there are different ways to keep on keeping on. All depending on your personality, beliefs and maybe background Nevertheless, whatever ups and downs I have been through, these have been my constant source of strength, all along. On a general note, what keeps you going? What keeps you motivated? People would love to learn! 2 Likes 2 Shares |
Romance / My Opinion On Why White Women Date Black Men by Jengbetiele: 6:59pm On Dec 28, 2015 |
Before I start I will like to clearly state that this piece does not in any way represent the opinion or view of any person other than personal experience of the author and some friends who have towed this path. I am writing this article because of the categories of black men who sees dating white women as a kind of fantasy or one heaven they have to make by fire by force. Being honest I was once like you. I was driven by the urge to taste a white woman while in their land. The fact that I saw them as more independent in terms of finances i.e. the splitting of bills things unlike their black counterpart (for the most part) made them more alluring. So I joined in the race for the chase. I thought fortune smiled on me and within few months, I have been in relationship with a good number. The evaluation of these relationships one after the other after break up informed the reasons why I strongly feel White women are not worth the chase. And rather than marry them and live in prison, better stick to your own(if you find a wife material)….you can’t compare an independent, mature, respectful black lady with cultural values and norms to their white counterpart. The difference is crystal clear and the gap is energy wide. Call me a racist or whatever I don’t care. Based on my experience, and stories from black guys that dated white at one point or the other here, I have been able to identify 9 reasons why a white woman will ever date a black man. Forget the entire love story na wash! Black women rocks anytime anyday, anyweek, any year, anymonth, anywhere, anyhow. My experience made me run back to bethel like the historic Jacob. Though not in all cases but I tell you, in most cases these reasons are valid. So if she winks, get closer and have these at the back of your mind so you do not go with all your heart. Especially if you are a student, i pity you because if you aint careful, you will have bad results and eventually lose her when she's done with you. She’s only useful for the cold weather. 1. Overweight: Abeg do not believe the ‘I just love your skin color story’ the truth is in most cases, She’s too large to attract white men even the fat white men self no want her. She sees black men as dumping ground and believes her body is more appealing to black men. Even the skinny ones get esteem problems. I dated skinny too. 2. Experiment: From watching all these Mandigo videos from baby, she strongly believes that the black man’s power house is as long, strong and thick as Olumo rock. She wants to know the feel, texture, rigidity, fatality, brutality and animality of the feel in bed combat and above all if it’s better than being with a white man. They can be so emotionally unstable. Today she's moody, tommorow she's depressed 3. Jealousy: She’s jealous of black women. I have noticed a similar trend here, all my ex complains bitterly and lament about how strong their hatred is for black women. Reason is because they believe they are well mannered, properly groomed, cultured and trained more than them. 4. Boredom: Forget all the I love you she says every minute. It takes her nothing less than 4hours to dump you and move to the next available guy. She’s just bored with white men. She is looking for pleasure and a change(not APC kinda change) 5. Desperation: She can’t get the white guys she wants. And it’s really cold she believes what a Love Machine can do, a black man can do exceedingly better and she cannot go without a man. 6. Attention: She want people to see her, she want that attention she's been craving for from birth. Since they usually have no goals, dreams, vision or target, then dating someone different than her own race is her way of getting that attention she likes. 7. Cheater: Well cheating is not an executive duty of just black women (not all) but for those who think white women are some kind of saint, na lie. She’s sleeping with many different men just enjoy your turn while it lasts. To her, you are just one of many. Infact you may find her in the arms of your best friend. They are just easier than easiest itself 8. Mixed kids: She wants mixed kids. Why? Just for no reason. It is still part of the experiment. She believes mixed kids will boost her significance in the society. She wants the whole world to see her as someone who is open minded and not a stereotypic kind of person 5 Likes |

Some universities still exempt Nigeria from there english whatever. While some will subject you to english test when you get here and some will not admit you without english this is for undergraduate. But for graduate some demand your school write a letter stating that you were instructed in english during your undergraduate so i think it all bulges down to the school's requirement As regards the Gmat, most management courses like accounting, hr, Mba even IT that has a slight intersection with management requires Gmat. bababodmas: 1 Like |

For a research based masters degree, it is mandatory you get a supervisor with same research interest as yours. Here is the rundown of the process. Though there may be a slight difference based on school. 1) You apply with your statement of intent and other supporting document 2) School of graduate studies review your document 3) School of graduate studies send your document to your home department panel for review 4) If you are found academically admissible, then the department send your file to available supervisors if any available supervisor gets interested then he reviews your file and then fill a program of study form for your admission then you get admitted. But if they can not locate any supervisor for you, then they mail you informing you that though you have been found academically acceptable, but you should try and send your proposals to your prospective supervisor. If you cant get any and they cant get any, then you wont be accepted. So i normally advise people to try get a supervisor themselves before applying. If you have any more question, let me know. Education / How To Secure A Scholarship Admission To Canadian Universities by Jengbetiele: 6:51pm On Dec 26, 2015 |
Sequel to numerous of private messages enquiries I got after my two posts https://www.nairaland.com/2822230/having-tough-time-academics-read and https://www.nairaland.com/2432779/funny-jjc-experience-canada . There is a common objective in all the mails received. Similarly going by most of the quotes, replies and mentions on the thread it became obvious that everyone wants to know how to secure a scholarship in Canadian universities for graduate programs at master’s level and PhD. The aim of this thread to give detailed step by step procedures during the application phase. Needless to say that when you secure a full scholarship admission in a foreign university, the chances you will be given the visa is 95 percent. They rarely deny or delay scholars . Let’s get started Graduate programs are basically of two types in Canada. The first being thesis or research based admission and the second project route admission. While thesis based is meant for researchers and people who would not mind a PhD in the near future, project based is mainly suited for students who would prefer to work in the industry hence most project based programs have a coop or work term component…don’t be confused na just IT…but paid IT and it usually runs for 4 months. Due to the nature of thesis based master’s degree, it is usually more rigorous and highly competitive you know how money matter dey always be now hahahha and as a result, you are given a full scholarship from basically three sources. The first is School of graduate studies; the second is your home department while the third is from Research assistant role or teaching assistant role. The accumulation of these funds runs in thousands of dollars paid to you per annum. They deduct your tuition and other expenses and pay you the rest on a bi-weekly basis. It is worthy of mention to state explicitly that once you apply for a thesis route masters degree, you need not apply for any other scholarship separately. It comes together like bread and butter in most cases hahahaha. And when you are admitted and you get funding from an external source, they stop the one that comes with your admission hahahahaha you wan hammer ontop scholarship money abi? . Now the big question is how do I qualify and/or what are the basic requirements. Well for the most part, you need a CGPA of nothing less than a 75 percent in your undergraduate. This is equivalent to a 3.5 on a 5.0 scale. Depending on your choice of program, you may need Gmat or GRE and probably IELTS too as part of supporting documents. As earlier stated the competition is always very fierce. My supervisor told me over 700 applicants submitted while just 15 were chosen. Hence you need to be that irresistible and promising young scholar. This is where creating a scholarly profile comes in. It is not a requirement most times but I recommend including your scholarly publications in your application and certificates of membership of academic bodies. If you are still an undergraduate, hope still dey. Join IEEE, AIESEC and all these student organizations. And try write some articles also. I did it so you can do it too. Just research and stop being lazy like me hahahha. Moreover, you will need to write a clear and concise statement of purpose clearly stating your research interest and your academic feats. All these writings no be big deal. They are just a perfect avenue to sell yourself to the review panel and make them pee in their pants hahahahhaa thereby creating that enthusiasm to sign you. All these would further strengthen your case and make your application more competitive. As a matter of fact I included all these when I was applying even certificates of presentations and participations in academic conferences in Nigeria. One of the hurdles in securing a thesis admission is getting a supervisor. That can be very frustrating as I went through the same too. So my advice here is draft a very unique proposal. Not just the normal template we see around. Be creative an instance when I was writing mine I wrote something likes “Sir I read your publications titled database blab blab la bla. While it is educative and interesting if adopted in today’s world of computing, I would like to specifically state that combining your methodology with so so so approach could create a more efficient database system…..I made logical suggestions to one of his works while indirectly critiquing others hahahaha try this with a naija professor at your peril hahahahaha. So write a catchy proposal. Because even if you have a first class, and you can’t get a supervisor, you won’t be admitted. Though some universities do merge student automatically the supervisor of aligning interest but most of them won’t do that. Above all, pray for favour and goodluck because sometimes the race is not to the swift hahahahaha. Before I return my pen into basket of love, I wish you a prosperous 2016 in advance. 153 Likes 19 Shares |

This is a personal experience and i am yet to have this on my facebook page self. So you can as well buttress your argument with the link. As a matter of fact, it was my reply to a someone's post few months ago titled "I will kill myself on wednesday" The rationale behind making it a thread is the fact that it attracted over 60 likes as well as encouraging people going through similar ordeals at the moment so you need to recheck. Where i live currently, plagiarism is a crime with adverse consequence so if that is your concern, i am well informed. Thanks jackpot: 2 Likes 1 Share |

Phinity318:Most universities here have funding especially for graduate programs. When you are applying for a master's degree admisson here, there are bascically two routes to the same program. The first is a thesis route or research based while the second is a project route. Since thesis route involves alot of research, you are funded for the entire duration of the studies. The funding will cover everything and may also be given a research assistant or teaching assistant role. Normally for thesis route, you take four to five courses in the first year and the second year is for your research. If you are interested in a phd, thesis route is highly recommended. But if you want to go by thesis, you have to secure a professor willing to supervise you....this is where the big deal is. Getting them is no easy. You need to write a detailed and catchy proposal and that proposal must align with the research interests of your proposed supervisor. Without a supervisor, you wont be admitted for a thesis based masters degree. For a project based masters, you take 6 to 8 courses in all and you do a not too big project. I hope i have answered your question. Merci 5 Likes |

I just have a feeling this may be useful here for some categories of students. Let me quickly share my story with you....the best sermon is one's personal experience. I left secondary school in 2004. By 2005, I got admitted to a state university in Ekiti State. After two years of studies in Ekiti state, I discovered the program I was enrolled into was not accredited. To make the story worse, nearly all lecturers in the faculty of science avidly disliked everything about the program. It was called SLT then. Consequently, they mark down our papers. Not only that, they called us all sorts of names like NFA, unfortunate students and the likes anyone who attended the university and did that course can attest to what I am saying. My dad happened to be a staff of the University, so I told him about the poor grades, everything I heard about the program and the intensity of the lecturer's hatred for the program all to no avail. All he said was whenever students don’t want to read, they come up with different flimsy excuses so I kept mute. After five years of my life in that school, my dad was made one of the board members of the faculty so he saw the whole results since the inception of the program. He saw so may spill over students from year 2000, and the fact that the program has not been accredited. I was in 500 level (final year) then with a lot of carry over courses.....carry over is not a big deal in that program....people had 15. It was so worse that from 300level, you can be so sure you are already a spill over student. My father saw how bad it was and he immediately invited me to his office for a meeting. He blamed himself for not listening to me when I complained 3 years earlier and he said he would want me to transfer immediately. That was how I took my transcript using his influence. I was the first person ever and possibly the last person to get a transcript from the program. I returned to 200level in another school entirely when I ought to graduate with maybe a third class or a pass. I wasted 5years of my life in Ekiti state University and as a result, i was so sad and depressed. Merely sitting with my younger brother's age mate turned my stomach in anger. Infact when I got to the new school, my own younger brother who I happened to be ahead of by 3years became my senior. The retrogression started affecting my grades such that attending classes became a burden. Along the line, I sat myself down and reasoned deeply about how my life has been. For crying out loud, I used to be one of the best students in secondary school. I was only unfortunate to have attended the wrong program in Ekiti. Though I wasn't given any certificate despite the number of years spent but what about the life lessons I learnt? From that day onward, I made a concrete decision to change my attitude towards my new classmates and I began to humble myself to a fault. Above all, I began to see my new school as the golden opportunity to start afresh again. My declining grades all of a sudden began to soar so high such that I had 5.0/5.0 in one of the semesters with a bit of dedication and I ended finishing top 5 out of the class Today, I am currently in Canada on a graduate program fully funded by a Canadian university. Up till now, I am yet to spend a dime of myself in Canada because the scholarship covered everything. Guess what? I even got two scholarships from two different universities and just last week, I got another funding again. Yes just last week! What if I had committed suicide then? Would I have seen the goodness almighty God has packaged in my future today? What I am saying in essence is you can fall as much as possible but whenever you fall and refuse to rise again is when you failed. The righteous shall fall seven times.....but they shall rise again. Conclusively, whatever the case maybe, dust up yourself and try again. Do not give up so easily because winners never quit and quitters never win. I am sure very soon you gonna look back and smile. Every successful man or woman at some point had a share of that gloomy period when you feel you are all alone and the world is about coming down on you. But I am happy to announce to you that alot of people have tread this same path and today they have become success and point of reference in the society. My brothers and sisters, it is never how far, but how well and tough time never lasts tough people do!!!!!! 276 Likes 44 Shares |
