PoliticsArewa Youths Accuse Northern Elite Of Under-developing North by jerusalem101(op): 2:31pm On Jul 08, 2013
The umbrella association of northern youths, Arewa Youths Forum (AYF), today accused the elite from the region, both Muslim and Christian, of undermining the north in political power and economic development.

The indictment came in a communiqué issued by the youth group at the end of an emergency meeting held in Kaduna, capital of Kaduna State. The AYF’s communiqué, which was sent to local and international media, argued that the north had completely collapsed and needed purposeful leadership in order to rise again.

Led by Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, the group x-rayed the political and economic performance of the northern part of Nigeria and found the situation deplorable. “The leadership of Arewa Youths Forum (AYF) met today in Kaduna and critically reviewed the state of the nation and, most importantly, the predicament bedeviling Northern Nigeria. Sadly, [as] we stated in March 2012, the North is still at the bottom of every index ranging from health, education, social amenities, infrastructure, socio-cultural integration and peaceful coexistence,” the communiqué stated.

The AYF added: “The worst of our woes is the insecurity ravaging the North that has gradually balkanized Northern Christians and Muslims…through a deliberate elitist mischief.” In addition, the group argued: “On good governance, judicial utilization of public funds and quality leadership, from our review of the 19 Northern States, except in [a] few states, the order of the day is outright embezzlement of public funds with impunity. The leadership being showcased at all levels of governments [is] nothing but a monumental sharing of public funds…while poverty and illiteracy [sweep] through the…region thereby posing a big threat to our existence and progress. In plain terms, the North is not only at the verge of extinction but has finally collapsed and just standing on its shadows and a cosmetic unity that is far from the reality.” In an ominous tone, the communiqué added that “reality has finally caught up with us.”

In a statement that spared neither Muslims nor Christians, the group insisted that “the major problems of the North [are] the result of the accumulated machinations of both Christian and Muslim elite, who in the course of pursuing their political and economic interests kept sowing discord along religious and ethnic lines to a gullible illiterate majority. Even if for nothing, the intense struggle of Christian and Muslim elite for inclusion into several juicy boards and parastatals confirms that all the noise about religion and ethnic divides are pure manipulations meant to aid individuals’ access to economic and political proceeds.” They challenged the northern elite to show evidence that they contributed to “development, unity and progress” in “their native Christian or Muslim dominated areas of the North.”

The AYF accused the elite, “who got life on a platter of gold,” of squandered opportunities to make a difference in the region. They stated that “insincerity and double standards” existed on the part of “traditional and religious institutions, governments, civil society, media, security agencies, and opinion leaders in addressing the mess that has enveloped the North.”

The group suggested that the remedy to the region’s “institutionalized mess” lies in “sincere and purposeful leadership at all levels of government in [the] Northern region,” adding that there was a need for “judicious management of resources to check poverty, lack of infrastructure, collapsed education and health sectors and as well unemployment.”

The youth group called for an end to “all tools of manipulation and mischievous propaganda using religion and ethnicity.” They advocated a strengthening of the rule of law “to deal with all those responsible for inciting killings as well those perpetrating the killings.” The group added: “These will aid in bringing about cohesion and stability, while the Federal Government and security agencies assiduously tackle terrorism in the north.”

PoliticsNuhu Ribadu Has Turns Out To Be A Tragic Hero By Adamu Yaro by jerusalem101(op): 12:23pm On Jun 11, 2013
Reading through Ribadu’s statement in response to the presidency’s statement giving a historical account if his hypocrisy it is amusing that the irony of his political instability does not stare him in the face. Ribadu says “It is unfortunate that he (Mr. Abati) stands on crooked crutches of rehashed falsehoods fabricated by corrupt politicians prosecuted by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu”. I am a bit confused here. Isn’t Bola Tinubu one of the “corrupt politicians” Ribadu talks about? Who is today serving Tinubu between Ribadu and Reuben Abati?
Reuben Abati serves Nigeria by working for President Goodluck Jonathan while Nuhu Ribadu serves Bola Tinubu. I will now replay Ribadu’s past words concerning Tinubu.
Before the 2007 Nuhu Ribadu said Bola Tinubu was “not fit to hold public office”. Today, Nuhu Ribadu has turned to Tinubu’s lap dog.
And then again Ribadu has the effrontery to say that rather than being accused of ingratitude he is the one who can make such a claim “having been betrayed after his selfless service to the nation in the Petroleum Revenue Task Force committee.” What hogwash!
Ribadu is so narcissistic that he is only conscious of himself and has little capacity to remember what others have done for him. Was it not the same Ribadu who confessed in the Petroleum Revenue Task Force committee report that “The data used in this report was presented by various stakeholders who made submissions to the task force in the course of our assignment at various dates which have been disclosed in relevant sections of the report. Due to the time frame of the assignment, some of the data used could not be INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED and the Task Force recommends that the Government should conduct such necessary verifications and reconciliations.”
Nuhu Ribadu betrayed his incompetence in that his committee was saddled with the task of unraveling what was stolen in the fuel subsidy regime and other petroleum industry related transactions and instead of doing that he signed a report containing what he acknowledged were unverified numbers and expected the president to act on it. Was it not precisely because the president wanted verified figures that he appointed the Committee? Yet, because of his hunger for the media spotlight, Ribadu presented a haphazard report and rejected Steve Oronsanye’s advise to request for more time to do a proper job.
And now Ribadu expects gratitude for doing a shoddy job and refuses to give gratitude to the president who returned him from exile, reversed his dismissal from the police and restored his full rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police with full entitlements. Talk about biting the fingers that fed you.
From his statement, it is clear that Nuhu Ribadu wants to muddy the waters and divert attention from the real issues by insulting Reuben Abati. So in order to force him to address issues, I will attempt to reduce them to two questions;
a. Did you or did you not once accuse former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, of being a corrupt politician?
b. Did you or did you not turn around to become Bola Tinubu’s lackey and presidential candidate of his choosing and sponsorship?
Nuhu Ribadu has turned out to be a tragic hero, a man in whom the youths of Nigeria once placed so much hope but who has turned out to be, as his former friend Elrufai wrote in his book the Accidental Public Servant, a “typical policeman”!
I can however understand Ribadu’s predicament. It is obvious that his political husband has decided to embrace polygamy and is thinking of marrying a new political wife who happens to be a general. It is understandable that the scorned wife that Ribadu has become will do everything to regain the attention of the political husband. I won’t begrudge Ribadu his attention seeking. He is entitled to that as he is entitled to his opinion. But he is not entitled to the facts. Facts are sacred and the fact is that Ribadu is now the wife of a man he once publicly called a crook!

PoliticsRev Jesse Jackson Defends Endorsement Of Jonathan's Administration. by jerusalem101(op): 4:16pm On Jun 04, 2013
American civil rights activist Reverend Jesse Jackson has defended his recent statements declaring President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as unparalleled in transparency and good governance. Mr. Jackson, who visited Nigeria to participate in the country’s “Democracy Day” celebrations made the gushing endorsement while speaking to the Nigerian press.

In an interview with SaharaTV, the civil rights icon explained the basis of his assessment of the Nigerian government under Mr. Jonathan. According to him, the Nigerian president’s “cabinet members presented what their departments were doing and their budgets and showed where the money was: Transportation Department, Economic Development Department.” He added that officials of the Jonathan administration laid out their work in road construction, oil revenues and other areas, noting that “it was exciting to see that level of transparency. I had not seen that before.”

Pressed by SaharaTV, Mr. Jackson admitted that a lot still remained to be done. Even so, he maintained that Nigeria today has more roads, hospitals and better infrastructure, contending that this was proof that transparency was on the increase. He declared that transparency revealed both strengths and weaknesses, adding that the negative stories coming out of Nigeria should not be misconstrued to mean anything other than that transparency was at work.

Mr. Jackson regretted that Moshood Abiola was not allowed to assume the presidency after the June 12, 1993 elections which he believes the late politician and businessman won. “Many of us believe he won that election, and it was unfortunate what happened – that they did not allow the count to stand.” The reverend was quick to add that Nigeria was beyond the issue now and had a renewed commitment to democracy.

Speaking on the Boko Haram menace, Mr. Jackson restated his support for President Jonathan's decision to release some detained women in a bid to ease up the pressure with the militant group. He said a commitment to rebuild the northern part of Nigeria and wage a fight against extreme poverty might hold the key to addressing the deteriorating situation.

Mr. Jackson also spoke about Zimbabwean leader, Robert Mugabe, drawing attention to the fact that the American ambassador to Zimbabwe, Charles Ray, had recently publicly commended the Zimbabwean president “for having an open climate for voting.”

The civil rights leader said he was impressed that most African countries were laying strong foundations for democracy and human rights. He expressed confidence that “Africa is on the rise.” Noting that most African countries had fewer than 56 years of Independence, Mr. Jackson compared them to the United States at the same stage of its democratic experience. He concluded that, at 56 years of Independence, US human rights was a mirage and the country’s democracy was still in the teething stage.

Mr. Jackson criticized the portrayal of Africa in the western media. “While the western media is criticizing, China is investing,” he said, adding “Africans are on a rhythm of growth and development, and the opinion of outsiders will not determine Africa's fate.”

Mr. Jackson criticized the killing of Libyan strongman Muamar Gaddafi by the militia that brought down his 25 year government with the support of the West. “It was unnecessary to kill Gaddafi,” he said. He added that the wars in countries like Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan may be over in the western media, but continue unabated on the ground where people continue to die.

PoliticsRe: Buhari Faults Clampdown On Boko-Haram Members by jerusalem101: 2:25pm On Jun 03, 2013
This statement by Gen Buhari reminds me of the statement of former NSA,Gen AZazzi, who said categorically that everything about Boko Haram resolves around Gen Buhari. Am so disappointed, and it still baffling that Buhari has fail to understand that He can only become President of the North with such outrageous display of sentiment. It is also obvious that he's just after being the President of Nigeria but doesn't have the interest of the Country at heart.
Buhari has never condemned the activities of Boko haram,he has never proffers solution(s) to the problem facing the Country as an elder state man and Rtd Gen.He made a statement which is manifesting itself today in the activities of Boko haram when he said that "If he doesn't win the 2001 election, Nigeria will be ungovernable", he also made a statement that led to the death of more than ten(10) Corpers and he has shown no remorse about it.
Then i ask my self why defend this Man when people link him with Boko haram? Nigeria doesn't need an extremist as a president nor a Highly sentimental figure to rule us,the actions and inaction of Buhari has shown that he doesn't have the interest of Nigeria at heart at all.
PoliticsHezbollah Terror Factory And Foreign Media by jerusalem101(op): 5:16pm On May 31, 2013
It just funny why the discovery of Hezbollah terror factory in the Country by Security Agents doesn't enjoy Foreign Media patronage as compare to event that will speak negatively of the country would have receive. security forces uncovered a Hezbollah terrorist cell that had been planning attacks against Western and Israeli targets in western Africa, Israel's Counter-Terrorism Bureau stated on Thursday evening.
According to the counter-terrorism officials, a raid on one of the suspect's residences uncovered an extensive weapons cache. An investigation indicated that the cell had been active in Nigeria for a few years, and has planned numerous attacks against western and specifically Israeli targets.
The officials said that the cell is "part of the Shi'ite terror campaign against Israeli targets throughout the world," and is currently investigating claims that the cell was active in other African nations as well.
Nigerian military spokesman Captain Ikedichi Iweha said in a statement on Thursday that the three Lebanese suspects were arrested between May 16 and May 28 in the north's biggest city of Kano. All had admitted to being members of Hezbollah under questioning.
A raid on the residence of one of the suspects had uncovered 11 60 mm anti-tank weapons, four anti-tank landmines, two rounds of ammunition for a 122 mm artillery gun, 21 rocket-propelled grenades, seventeen AK-47s with more than 11,000 bullets and dynamite, he said.
Now i wonder why the issue have not taken center stage or why the foreign media have not been replete with the story like they did few days ago when a british borned extreme jihadist was alleged to have killed a member of the royal army. Immediately the foreign media was replete with the story linking the extreme jihadist to Nigeria just to put away the blame from the british security for not doing their job well.
It all point to the fact that the foreign is just a propagandist's machinery aim at attacking the country and Africa at large at any given opportunity just to keep painting Africa n the black race as people from the Dark world. It is not a new trend that the way the foreign media will reports and sponsors documentary at the detriment of the country/Africa won't be the same way they will report issue of Human right bordering around Guatanamo prison and the Afghanistan massacre, nor the controversy surrounding the story of Weapon of Mass destruction in Iraq.
Am still watching all the Foreign Media to see what will happen in days ahead.

well! it's a pity these Men all died in the Line of duty for their fatherland, the amazing factor about the whole thing, is the manner at which the SSS is going about the 10 officers who were brutally murdered along side 85 policemen officers. The media has been replete with the stories of our the sss have seriously been lamenting over the loss, the compensation of N10 million for each head and the unflinching concern and support shown to the families of the slain officers.
It make me wonder what is happening in other security forces, cause the lost of 10 men by the sss is like losing a whole community, what a show of love and support to these unfortunate officers. more grease to their elbow in the encouraging attitude shown to these men, cause it will definitely boost their confidence knowing that their service is behind them,a show equivalent with what i used to see in America,Britain and other development nation of the whole. Please when next the sss is selling their form someone should please inform me for necessary action but wonder if age will allow them accept me.

Since the killing of policemen n other security agents while serving their Father's land, the Social media, media,Human right groups/activists, Oppositions,Elder statemen, pressure groups, have all gone on Vacation or have suddenly become blind, deaf and dump.
This all point to fact that the above mentioned groups don't either have d interest of the country @ heart or they are just in support of such act against the Nation,or the people killed by this militia group are foreigners or Animals.we now knw that the problem of this country is not just the government as widely perceived but we Nigerians, because of one sentiment or the other. While the foreign media n their sponsored seek the disintegrition of Nigeria. We Nigerians are ignorantly supporting them 2 achieve their aims.
I pray we wake up n put political,Religious, personal interest aside if we rilli want Nigeria 2 live beyond 2015,cause it so obvious that after pdp leaves Nigerians will still suffer, cause as far as politic is concern is Soldier go,Soldier come barrack remain the same pattern, which mean pdp go n apc come corruption still continue.the ambatse militia group action as made it so obvious who we are...Wicked,insincere n corrupt people who can't say the truth because of personal aim and we have all lost our National conscience.

Opposition Political Parties, Elders Forum, Human Rights Activists, Renowned Lawyers, Amnesty International etc. talk, make assessment, issue statement and ultimatum ONLY when Security Agents kill civilians in their line of duty. Now that the so called civilians are 'slaughtering' Security Operatives in their numbers for just performing their duties and having the audacity to tell the world that the killed 95 against the 23 reported by the police, everyone is quiet. I ASK, are these Security Agents not Nigerians? Don't they have Human Rights?(or are they animals) Are they not some people's parents, spouse, bread winners, siblings, kinsmen and friends? Don't they deserve to live? GOD will judge US all irrespective of our background, religion, interests.

PoliticsNigerian Press One Of The World's Freest - UN by jerusalem101(op): 3:32pm On May 04, 2013
The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr. Daouda Toure, on Friday said that in spite of some hitches witnessed by Nigerian journalists, it was still one of the freest in the world.

Toure said this in Abuja at an event organised by UNESCO to mark this year's World Press Freedom Day, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

According to him, the press in Nigeria is regarded as one of the freest in the world in spite of some pockets of incidents of impunity and attacks.

"Unfortunately and sadly, three journalists and media workers died in the line of duty in Nigeria in 2012," he said.

He said the United Nations family, through UNESCO, had dedicated a webpage in the memory of "these gallant colleagues who died while performing their constitutional responsibility."

Toure said the UN system in Nigeria had consistently promoted freedom of expression and public access to information through institutional capacity building and curriculum development for journalism training.

He said the UN, through the Democratic Governance for Development project, its international partners mainly the European Union, the UK Department for International Development and the Canadian International Development agency, was working to strengthen the voice and capacity of the Nigerian media.

According to Toure, this is with the objective of promoting media pluralism and democratisation of citizens' access to information.

He said that DGD project was also supporting the effective implementation of the Freedom of Information Act with government institutions and civil society to promote inclusiveness in the democratic process and accountability of elected officials.

The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Press Council, Mr. Bayo Atoyebi, called on Nigerian journalists to show more responsibility in their reportage, adding that no story was worth dying for.

He said the media should shun unbridled sensationalism, adding that they should practise with ethical standard.

Atoyebi called on journalists to hold government accountable to the people, adding that professionalism should not be jettisoned on the alter of money.

PoliticsNigerian Media And Indiscriminate Reports by jerusalem101(op): 3:45pm On Apr 24, 2013
For few days now, the media has been inundated with the reported killing of innocent citizens in a clash between the JTF and boko haram members in Baga, Borno state. Expectedly, those clamoring for the withdrawal of d JTF attributed d casualty figure to d JTF, thereby justifying our proverbial saying "if u want to kill a dog, u give it a bad name". We must recall that d mandate of the JTF is to restore sanity in the states affected by d activities of d insurgents, making it practically impossible for them to kill the precious lives they are meant to protect. Note also that Nigeriens and Chadians soldiers were involved in d operation and that only 30 BH members, 1 soldier and 6 civilians were killed at against the media sensationalisation of d casualties. Let's pause for a minute and consider wat would have become of d north without d JTF. Maybe what is happening in Mali would have been replicated here. Nigerians must know that authentic security reports indicate that d death of 6 civilians was occassioned by d sporadical shootings by the sect members who reportedly used heavy fire power without mastery of such weapons. Given that Government is conducting an inquiry into d matter, Nigerians must be weary of false media reports that seek to vilify the JTF while encouraging d sect members. Northern leaders and d masses must collaborate with govt to exterminate insecurity. Nigerian media must also be schooled in d reportage of internal terrorism. Security is a corporate business that requires our efforts. Lets rise up to d challenge and say no to terrorism. #naijagobeta#

“We Are Coming For You” – Robbers Write Residents In Ogun State

Residents of Lambe area of Ogun state have received an audacious letter from some fearless robbers urging them to give them a welcoming hospitality when they attack their community in the coming days.

The daredevil men of the underworld who described themselves as friends of the community said in the letter written in Yoruba language and pasted conspicuously on many walls on Akin Akindele, Community Road and Jelili Popoola Streets, that they are coming ‘very soon’ and are not afraid of the police or other security agencies.

The letter reads, “You residents of this area be prepared to receive your friends very soon. If you like, inform the police or your security men or OPC, you will just lose your lives. What is important is to cooperate with us and to get ready to give us a warm welcome,” the robbers said in the short letter.

“If you like, inform the police or your security men or OPC, you will just lose your lives,” they warned.

The letter ends with these words, “We your friends, robbers”.

Panic and confusion had since enveloped the community with a resident describing Lambe as ‘the playground of armed robbers.’

“Lambe has become the play ground of armed robbers. Incessant robbery attacks have forced landlords to flee the area and are now tenants in other places,” he said, pleading that his name should not be mentioned.

Landlords and tenants in the area are so confused that they do not know what to do and are prepared for the worst. Due to fear of the unknown, residents of the community are so scared to talk about the issue.

A resident, who does not want his name disclosed, said he will not inform the police as there might be mass killings.

“Besides, the police and the OPC cannot be trusted because they may be aware of their coming and will not do anything,” he said.
A female resident said her family will relocate from the community this week. She said her family needs money to celebrate Easter, explaining that the residents are worried because of the lack of security in the country.

She revealed that none of the residents wants to talk about it because “the robbers might be living among us.”
“ I have warned my husband to stay away from this matter because you do not know who is who in the area, “she said.

Another resident in the community said since they received the letter, most residents do not sleep again at night and the landlords and tenants are afraid to even inform the police or talk about it because those behind the letters could be among them.

According to information made available to DailyPost, one of suspects behind the impudent letters was arrested in the night at about 1.00 am and handed over to the police at Ajunwo Police Division.

However, efforts to reach the station’s DPO were futile as his phone rang endlessly unanswered.
