Felixtuta: I have decided to stop Job hunting and am ready to do it right. One thing I won't do is to steal what is not mine and so I have decided to go into commercial farming.
I know nothing concerning large scale farming and so i have decided to ask.
1. How much do I need to start. 2. What crop would you advice me as a beginner to start with .
All comments will be highly appreciated, as I count on your wonderful advice and council. First and foremost... * get some knowledge * Understudy a farmer or go for real practical on farm training * Source market for the product you choose * find your way back to farm Wish you luck |

Agriculture › Re: Is This How Poor The Sales/marketing Of Broiler Birds Are? My Experience! by jethro2: 8:55pm On Oct 25, 2017 |
Franiey: The end they say, justifies the means. We began the raising of CHI broiler chicks eight weeks ago. As a start, we stocked 50 but have 40 left. At this time, they have reached table size and are averaging 2kg-2.5kg-3kg.
We are now at the verge of selling them off to prepare for new stock against Christmas. Never did we know marketing will be this tough. We went to the market women and they were all calling very ridiculous prices that is not even up to the finishing cost of raising them. One came to see them but still called a bad price. There is no way of selling it to them.
Please if you have contact of genuine buyers(life/frozen) or if you are ready to buy please do well to reach out to me.
Let us help fellow broiler farmers who rear doing the off season to make good sales.

toyclicks: Thanks for the contact.
The reality show you mentioned caught my attention
I like the way you think.
If multi-nationals could sponsor reality shows, and make ordinary people to become mega-stars (Even though these stars end up just depleting our moral and traditional values). I think bringing these same multi-nationals to sponsor reality shows that will encourage ready-to-do-the-hard-work youths (these kind of youths are more deserving of being made into stars and millionaires), and also boost the economy by improving our foreign exchange.
God help you.
God help us all. You are welcome Its been a dream that I believe so much. Its one of the future project |

toyclicks: Wow!!! Wow!!! Wow!!! That's all I can say. This thread is just so resourceful that I had to spend nights reading even though I end up sleeping at work At last I made it to the last page. God bless you dearly @Jethro.
I have similar passions with you, but you are one already living the dream "Raising a generation that will maximize the potentials in Nigerian agriculture"
Kudos.
I see you are not really bothered about making money rather than helping people. Hence, have you thought of starting a TV program or radio program in this regards?
Do you think you are ripe for that?
Anyways I believe its time we youths rise up and get the Nigerian economy to the Zenith it ought to be. And i can tell you, agriculture is the future, the major realistic driver in that regards.
BTW, there was a guy that you recommended for ppl to buy ugu seeds from. Kalaus or so. can you give is contact and link to his thread again?
Thanks. Glad i could be a tool to bless someone. Thanks for appreciating this. With time, we will look at either a TV programme or a reality show of the practical farm training. Kalusam is the name i recommended Reach him on 07036931636. You are highly welcome |

domack99: Can you assist in setting up a tomato farm, am presently into a cash crop farming and thinking of what to do on a short term. Yes i can set up a tomato farm for you. But No. Tomato is not what you do on a short term basis. It require having the knowledge, patience and persistence to see it through. Those Northerners growing it were born into it so they have become expert over years. And still at that they do meet their own challenges. |

johnnyblaze424: @jethro2 what tomato variety would you recommend in terms of yield and disease resistance?
am into staked/trellis open field tomato farming. Thanks Every tomato seed is good. Though hybrid seems to give more yield than open pollinated seed when properly taken care of. In terms of resistance, the open pollinated is the best. They have been acclimatised to the system. They can withstand insect and pest invasion. They have high diseases resistance than hybrid because of their adaptation. |

toyclicks: Good afternoon Jethro.
I was on research for the crop to plant this dry season when I stumbled on your thread. I must say your thread has blessed me. However, I am in a dilema of choosing btw whether to go for ewedu or Tomatoes. From what I can gather, it seems tomato planting would be more sophisticated and demanding than growing ewedu. I have tried to find out potential ROI for Ewedu but can't lay my hands on anything esp online.
Pls can you thus help me with figures. what is the potential ROI from ewedu in this dry season(I hope this is not derailing the thread). using 1 acre as scenario. I will look forward to your reply. thanks Ewedu is a good crop to plant during the dry season. The price automatically double because it become so scarce due to no rainfall. I have never taken the time to study the cost analysis for ewedu. Please get in touch with rural farmers in your vicinity to see if they can be of help |

karlxavier: Another is, am grateful for the question you answered. In the open field, is tuta absoluta known as tomato ebola curbed with frequent spraying and management when one attends the 3months training?
I was thinking that it would be a good idea if one goes for the three months training, get practical knowledge and still have your greenhouse built.
Is their anyway to have an excellent crop yield in the open field just like in the greenhouse? Yes. We have an organic pesticide that not only prevents tuta absoluta but also tackle several range of crop pests. With good soil management, excellent crop yield ( Good Agricultural Practise) can be achieve in both greenhouse and open field crop. Like wise don't expect a better yield from a poorly managed Greenhouse and open field plant |
