Pavore9: @jethro2, Kenyans don't joke with cows! They even export fresh milk in trucks on a daily basis to other East African countries. Heard recently that one of Kenya's biggest milk processor is eyeing the Nigerian market, afterall we buy tea from them. I wish some youth can take the initiative. Friesland Campina buys milk from the fulanis at N80 per litre. They are almost begging the fulanis to sell to them. They are normadic in nature and cant stay in a place for longer period. Meanwhile their cows produces between 1-2 litre per day while there are cows that produces between 20-30 litre in Kenya. |
Agriculture › Re: Youth Should Engage In Group Farming To Have Access To Markets And Funds by jethro2(op): 9:12pm On Jan 17, 2015 |
Kalusam: For any youth co-operative farming to be effective, the young farmers should: (1) Get specialized trainings on the various crops they want to go into. (2) Get quality seeds, and low cost technologies and innovations. (3) Be 2 to 3 people who are focused and determined to succeed and build a team of like minded individuals. (4) Have something to fall back on, should not depend on anyone or any institution for funds for their project. Meaning they should have saved money from previous work or business. (5) They should have a realistic budget and have enough funds to achieve it! (6) They should be ready to relocate to the rural areas or areas with an abundant and affordable land. (7) They should understand their market or consumers and grow products that their market demands! ( They should properly plan and manage the Agribusiness financially!
Now this are few of the basis or keys to success, if you as a youth can apply all of these then congratulations...good bye to unemployment and poverty! You ve said it all. |

Pavore9: Here in kenya powdered milk or tinned evaporated milk is a no-no. lt is fresh milk as they take tea 24hrs a day, so a kenyan consumes more milk than a Nigerian! It will be good if people will look in that direction of investment. I see a lot of oppourtunities in that angle. Nigeria is still lagging in that aspect. I also read that most household in Kenya subsdized their income with dairy milk production of 2 to 3 cows. |

Pavore9: l will like to be at the retail end where pasteurized milk is supplied to my milk tank in trucks while l dispense it to the final consumer. Dont know of the company for pasteurized milk yet. The fulanis supplied fresh to Friesland Campina which process into peak milk liquid satchet |

Pavore9: The south is not into dairy, so look up north. For u to get a consistent supply u must work with co-operatives to avoid disappointment in supply. l would love to run a fresh milk dispensing machine in Lagos but where will l get supply of fresh milk? The South western part especially Oyo State have plenty fulani cattle rearers. You can source fresh milk there in abundance |

Promhize: Please, where in Nigeria can a processing facility get cow Milk at cheapest price and consistently for 12months, thank you. Oyo State is the dominant areas for fulani n the southwest. Friesland Campina recently sited their milk factory in Oyo town and Iseyin. They are planning a third location close to Saki area. |

Soloxam: waoooo, thanks for all these info,@Jethro 2 pls could you please share with us the chemical u over use @the nursery and what will you advice on how/how much of it to use. pls don't put full stop to these article, we need to learn from farmers. thanks. We made use of NPK, liquid fertilizer and we added aspirin. Yes aspirin: you might be wondering. That was part of the instructions I followed. Liquid soap also feature in the process. Like I said I thought i was learning from a pro. But now I came to understand you need only to use organic fertilizer at a week in the nursery. There is a way you do your nursery that increase your germination rate. All this i learnt from practical farmers. Organic fertilizer you can source within your vicinity, poultry waste. Cow dungs etc. You can only learn by practising |
