All Progressives Congress , Edo State chapter has assured the people of the state that President Mohammadu Buhari does not believe in electoral fraud and will therefore not help anyone to rig election no matter his stake in the contest .
Comrade Godwin Erhahon , State Publicity Secretary said Leaders of All Progressives Congress in Edo State should therefore humble themselves and work hard sincerely if they truly hope to win September 10, 2016 governorship election.
The State Publicity Secretary of the Party gave the assurance in reaction to an appeal made to President Buhari by PDP leadership at a rally in Auchi that the President should allow level playing field for all parties.
Comrade Erhahon therefore advised the gold-diggers in APC who are refusing to make peace with those they maliciously and viciously offended during the intrigues that proceeded the June 18, primaries, hoping ignorantly that incumbency factor at federal level would sail them through.
“As one who has been with President Buhari since the beginning of his political struggle in 2003, I can vouch for him that his anti-corruption fight is not hypocritical.
“He will never encourage electoral fraud nor push EFCC against anyone.
Even as a popular but poor Presidential candidate of CPC in 2011, President Buhari rejected donations from some of his well-wishers whose source of income he didn’t trust.
“Likewise, let no one think that the outcome of the forthcoming election will make or mar Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as National Chairman as it is now known to all that he is completely sidelined and snubbed in the entire process.
“There are signs already that the Binis who are his home community with about fifty-three percent of voters in the State may not allow him take part in the campaign for those who derive pressures in pulling down Benin leaders.
“The only solution is for President Buhari himself to intercede and pacify the people of the great Benin Kingdom before it is too late. The President should not expect mad men to heal themselves." http://thenationonlineng.net/edo-2016-buhari-will-not-rig-election-apc/

Picks Shuaibu as running-mate Confusion trails PDP’s candidacy
Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally endorsed the winner of the party’s June 18 governorship primary, Godwin Obaseki, as its candidate for the September 10 governorship election.
But there was a growing apprehension yesterday within the ranks of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the possibility of missing out on the Edo governorship election following unresolved issues around its dual candidacy status.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, yesterday, the APC said it had upheld the governorship primaries as valid after due consideration of the appeal committee’s report.
“The appeal committee in its report submitted noted that the Edo State APC governorship primary was valid and while not dismissing the seriousness of the allegations and claims of the petitioners, the issues raised were not compelling as to warrant the cancellation of the primary election,” he said.
Buni urged all APC stakeholders in the state to put the party’s interest over and above personal interests in ensuring a speedy and amicable reconciliation. THISDAY also gathered that the APC governorship candidate has chosen a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Felix Shuaibu, as his running mate for the election.
The Election Appeal Committee chaired by Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, a former member of the House of Representatives and other members including Mustapha Salisu and Mrs. Ekwy Onyido, had while submitting its report to the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, assured that it had done everything to the feelings of all the contenders.
The appeal committee said it received petitions from two other aspirants, Kenneth Imansuagbon and Chris Ogiemwonyi to consolidate on his involvement in reaching out to all aggrieved parties. The committee also recommended that a high-powered committee be set up by the party to reach out and mediate between the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole and all the aggrieved aspirants who participated in the primary election.
Meanwhile, PDP which is seen as the main opposition in the Edo State governorship contest is under threat of losing the chance of fielding a candidate in the state governorship election just as the deadline for the submission of names of candidates is said to have been fixed for today, July 12. The emergence of two rival candidates, Pastor Ize-Iyamu from the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker committee and Mr. Mathew Iduoriyekwemwen, chosen by the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction, has put the state PDP in a crisis situation.
When asked to comment on the status of the state PDP with regards to the submission of its candidate for the governorship election, the Deputy Director, Voter Education and Publicity, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nick Dazang, said the commission has so far received names of governorship candidates for Edo State election from six political parties, excluding the PDP.
Dazang, who spoke with THISDAY on telephone, said as at 4p.m. yesterday, only the six parties, including the APC had submitted names to the commission.
However, Dazang expressed the hope that the PDP would be able to resolved its differences and still submit its candidate’s name between yesterday and today (Tuesday).
Similarly, the Chief Press Secretary to the National Chairman of INEC, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said the commission was yet approve any the rival PDP governorship candidates by yesterday. However, while the mainstream PDP leadership led by Senator Makarfi had engaged in trouble-shooting meeting yesterday to find ways out of the quagmire, the Sheriff-led group said it had filed its candidate’s name at INEC.
The former Vice Chairman of the PDP who was recently appointed Deputy National Chairman of the Sheriff’s factional leadership, Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh, yesterday told THISDAY that they had submitted the name of Iduoriyekwemwen to the INEC.
Ojuogboh who spoke with THISDAY on telephone, insisted that Sheriff was still the authentic national chairman of the PDP and that it was in that capacity the he obtained the governorship forms, completed it and submitted same to INEC. http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/07/12/apc-adopts-obaseki-as-governorship-candidate/

(Tony Osauzo, BENIN)
Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday attributed the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to God’s vengeance for the party’s alleged destruction of the country, adding that thieves that brought Nigeria to its kneels were now on the run.
The Governor who stated this when he feted Muslims in the state in Government House as part of the Id-el-Fitri celebration, assured the Muslims community that Nigeria would be a great country again with the actions taken by President Muhammadu Buhari, urging the Muslims to thank Allah for making Buhari President.
Apparently replying Buhari’s critics, Oshiomhole the President has to be rigid to be able to find the thieves as well as avoiding building on a foundation already destroyed by the PDP, stressing that Nigeria would have become a collapsed state if Jonathan had continued as President.
The Governor while explaining that the first step to making the needed change was to fix wrongs done in the past and cleanse rot done by the PDP, said the past administration failed to save to make adequate plan for the country but resorted to careless looting of the national treasury.
“We have to thank Allah for making it possible for Buhari to emerge. God so love Nigeria that he brought Buhari at this time.
“If Buhari had not come, we will not know why the Nigeria government failed to tackle Boko haram. They are now confessing like witches. A pastor that emerged as candidate confessed to collecting N700m from Fidelity Bank”, Governor Oshiomhole said. http://sunnewsonline.com/pdp-crisis-gods-vengeance-oshiomhole/

By Saawua Terzungwe The embattled national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has said that he will appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court which affirmed his sack as chairman of the party.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, yesterday, Sheriff said that the order of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, which authenticated his position as chairman subsisted, pointing out that the court’s order cannot be set aside by a court of equal jurisdiction.
He said that only the Court of Appeal can upturn the ruling of a high court, adding: “We disagree with today’s (yesterday) judgment completely. We’ve asked our lawyers to immediately file an appeal and also ask the same Federal High Court for stay of execution because there are three orders before his (judge’s) own, which are of the same coordinate jurisdiction.
“Unless and until the Court of Appeal, which is a higher court, makes a pronouncement contrary to what we have, I still remain the chairman.”
The court that gave judgment in Abuja, last week, and the Federal High Court in Lagos and the Port Harcourt court have same competent jurisdiction.”
Reacting to the judgment, Makarfi expressed his happiness saying: “I am also sad that it had to come to this. For me, there should be no winner or loser on this matter. I’m still calling on Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and his followers to join us so that we accommodate one another and, indeed, all other groups in a just, fair and equitable manner, with a view to moving the party forward.” www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/politics/-i-ll-appeal-sheriff/153859.html

By Abdullateef Aliyu, Lagos The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos has hailed the judgment of the Federal High court sitting in Port Harcourt, which recognized the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee to steer the ship of the party.
The state chapter of the party in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Taofiq Gani described the judgment as "justice for the soul of the party at this time" while commending what it called the reconciliatory spirit of Senator Makarfi who reportedly described the judgment as "no winner, no looser."
The chapter also called on Sheriff to drop the idea of appealing the judgement in the interest of the party's future.
According to the Lagos PDP, Sheriff had demonstrated that he is a fighter but his energy should be deployed into future elections to ensure the party's victory.
The statement added, "This statesman-like spirit should now manifest in the immediate commencement of invitation and reconciliation of protesting members, especially in the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff's camp. Hopefully this will be done in earnest and successfully lead us to membership drive of new more members as we approach 2019.
"For Senator Sheriff to reunite with the party at this time will be well timed and indeed end the unwarranted distractions towards the Edo governorship contest in particular. He should now take the positive decision to allow peace in the party.
Indeed, there is still room for meaningful reconciliation. We admonish him to be wary of sycophants and political failures who surround him only for their selfish and momentary gains.
He should reach out to the caretaker committee and contribute his quota to the developmental programmes of the party. This way, posterity would be kind on him". www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/politics/lagos-pdp-hails-court-ruling-recognizing-makarfi/153969.html#bVGAQtiUwR7a0AbJ.99
