Fineire:Hello mama. I had a similar case. I applied olive oil on the baby's head at night, enough to let the scaly stuff soften. Then after bathing in the moring, it came off easily when combing. Cradle cap usually resolves on it's own after a while. |
butterfly55:Thank you. I am glad the story is helpful and uplifting for you. All the nausea and other things you feel will subside gradually, it's all part of the process. You will testify at the end of it by God's grace. |
Boliboli760:Thank you. Yes, you can. |
BA/BS!!! Sorry for the late BS, there's been so much to do with little time. First trimester: I took in in January. I was preparing for Sunday church service one morning and I noticed I couldn't stand for long. I was breathless and I had to sit down after standing for some minutes. That's when I suspected I had taken in and I did a test to confirm. So, the first trimester was full of morning sickness. I have heard a lot of people say that second pregnancy is usually less stressful than the first and I thought it would be like that, but it wasn't. I vomited a lot. I could barely eat what I prepared myself and my level of tiredness was unimaginable. Nothing helped my morning sickness. I tried everything, even native chalk and bitter cola. The nausea was horrible. Second trimester: Second trimester came with severe pelvis pain, walking around was tedious. I was tired constantly. I had cravings and mood swings, and eating anything I prepared myself was hard. Sleeping at night was also very difficult. Nausea stayed till the early weeks of the third trimester; still vomiting and feeling sick. I was working from home so I kept myself busy and active with work to distract myself. Third trimester: This is where we need to back up a bit. When I just took in for my previous pregnancy, I joined this forum. I was a silent follower. Then Someone posted about a book, "Supernatural Childbirth" and how God made her delivery easily without pain. I looked for the book, read it, and followed the prayers in it. My previous delivery story will be for another day. Fast forward to this time, I did the same thing with the prayers for an easy delivery. A few days to my due date, I started going on exercises, walking long distances. Then I ate lots of pineapples, dates, and pawpaw. On the 30th of September, I started to feel some contraction, but there was no pain. I wanted to head to the hospital but I felt the pressure wasn't strong enough. I kept eating my dates and other fruits. On the 1st of October, the pressure kept coming and going without pain. I was still gisting and doing every other thing I could do. I told my husband about the pressure and we had a prayer together for the baby to come the next day. October 2nd, 3 a.m., the pressure was a bit more. When it was daybreak, I told my husband we should head to the hospital. Getting there, the matron on duty looked at me and asked if I was in labor, I said yes. She said she would have to check to confirm. At this point, the intervals between each contraction was quite close. She checked me and I was immediately admitted. I was told I was already 8 cm. I was taken into the labour ward and they discovered my water was bulging but it hadn't broken. They broke the water and an hour later my baby was out weighing 3.7kg. A little throwback: My first baby was 4.5kg, so I was determined to have a smaller baby this time to avoid tears. I ate mostly fruits and veggies for lunch and avoided excess carbs. My husband also watched my diet closely. There were many times he refused me having some of my cravings if he knew it would be unhealthy for me. He helped me through it. In all, my delivery didn't take up to two hours. If I had stayed home an hour more, I would have delivered at home. And because I was believing God for a painless delivery, I was conscious of the possibility of that happening. God can be trusted. He did it for me. Thanks to the house for all the support. Safe delivery to all expectant moms. God is faithful. |
sunbestie:Cappo, we are fine o. It's not been easy but we thank God. Taking each day as it comes and counting down. |
Mrazor:It depends on where you stay in Abuja. |
jawalis:Diapers (buy one pack newborn, 2 packs size 1 and one pack size 2, to get you through that first few weeks. Then buy according to size after). newborns can go through 8 diaper changes daily (!!!! ) and boys pee more, but don't buy too many because you can't predict size of your baby and you don't know quickly they will grow (I've seen a baby go from newborn to size 2 in 3 weeks). so at least 1 or 2 pack of newborn diapers will hopefully last you for a week and if your baby still needs newborn, buy weekly. If after it finishes your baby needs size 1, at least you have 2 packs at home to give you time before having to run to the supermarket or market to buy more. Baby wipes: look for the unscented ones, less likely to irritate skin. Diaper rash cream: Sudafed is what all my sisters used (especially the one who is a pharmacist). But try and change your baby once it gets wet so it's not sitting in a wet diaper that ends up causing diaper rash. onesies (if you're in Nigeria, get the sleeveless or short sleeved version. Do the same, one pack of 5 newborn, a one pack size 0-3). try not to buy too many newborn sizes as babies grow like beans (very quickly). Even better, inherit some from others (I just got a lot of onesies and newborn clothing from someone whose baby has outgrown hers, so I didn't bother buying clothes). Same with clothes and shoes, try not to buy too many until 3-6 months (God knows how many times I have been driven insane looking for one leg of baby shoe or sock that fell somewhere. And it wasn't even my own pikin sef grin ) get a few mittens until your liver is strong enough to file or cut those really sharp baby nails (because they will scratch their faces). Receiving blanket, a few caps and some wrappers for swaddling. Ejoor look for really thin wrapper (the old type they sold was better and cotton, a breathable fabric which means less heat. So raid a parent's cupboard for their old wrapper). Or buy muslin swaddle blanket (size 44"x44" minimum). Burp cloths: I don't like the terrycloth ones (those ones that look like towels) because they don't absorb well. Instead get the cotton clothe diaper (that rectangular fabric that's thick). Works like a charm and sometimes cheaper. Do you have a car? If yes, get a car seat (convertible preferred over infant but you will most likely find infant more in Nigeria). Chicco and Graco make good brands. It's upto you to decide if you want to buy pacifiers. One pack should be fine. Bassinet and cot: if you can also inherit this from someone, do (they tend to be pricey). If not, just buy a travel bassinet and remember some babies hate cots (though eventually you will want your bed back and kick the baby out to their cot). Towels: don't buy baby towels, they are usually very thin and stay damp longer and breakdown faster (mine was from Mothecare). Preferably buy regular very soft towel (100% cotton) which will last longer. Same with washcloth. lots of small nylon bags and big trashbags for diaper disposal and a pack of Baking soda and a good dustbin with a lid. When you dispose of dirty diapers, use a good bin with a tight cover and sprinkle some baking soda at the bottom of the dustbin (this helps to trap odours). At the end of the day, you tie up trashbag and take it outside (instead of constantly running after every diaper change to fling it). Baby set: please look for one that has nail cutter, thermometer, comb, nasal pump, baby medicine spoon, nail file. Avent sells one like that. No need for stroller, especially if in Nigeria. Which road is not dusty and uneven unless you're in the mall. Get a baby carrier (Bjorn makes good ones, they're expensive but I inherited my sisters own 10 years later. Quality is cheaper in the long run). Diaper bag: lots of decent ones out there (I got a messenger bag type so my hubby could carry it, my sister used a strong backpack). Look for one that has changing pad inside it. Olive oil and Shea butter for body cream rather than baby body creams. I hear most of the Johnson's on the market is fake and at least Shea butter is cheap, natural and does a beautiful job, same with olive oil. Baby wash Bibs (look for one size fits all). Treated mosquito net Bouncy chair and activity gym (so you can keep your baby somewhere if you need to have your hands free, like when bathing or cooking or just watching tv or answering the phone. Activity gym is for when baby starts rolling, put it on the floor (because I'm tired of hearing stories like "my baby rolled off the chair and fell on the floor, should I go to the hospital?? ". an electronic sterilizer set (microwave) because all the doctors in my house dislike sterilizing tablets. But it is your choice sha. Avent makes one sterilizer set that comes with feeding bottles so no need to buy any more. Plastic spoon and plate (but you won't need this for a while). Are you breastfeeding, pumping or doing formula? Please don't dress your baby up more than you. If you feel hot, your baby feels hot (even faster). If you feel cold, your baby feels cold (even faster). So unless you're constantly in an a.c. on blast, ejoor let your baby relax and use less clothing. Yes, Mama Nkechi or Mama Teni will have all sorts of unnecessary and unwanted advise to give you, but please listen to your common sense more. That's the basics. As time goes, you will need more and realise some stuff .Copied. **I got this from someone here some time ago, hope it helps.** |
Ijelenwanyioma:I experienced this in my first. It was so bad I had to use pads or tissue almost thought the pregnancy. I didn't take any drugs for it and it didn't stop until I gave birth. I didn't even know it was something to worry about because I did some research and saw that some women experience it. My baby came out fine but I noticed he had a lot of skin issues for the first few weeks, rashes, eczema, etc that cleared up later. So, in my opinion, if it's part of how your pregnancy is, treatment might not help, it will just keep coming till you have your baby. But if it's an infection, then treatment is needed to clear it up. |
sunbestie:Same here o. To walk around is a problem and the heaviness is not here at all. |
Lewalemanto:It depends on the woman. Some women drink it without stress while pregnant, while some others, it can cause issues. I took a cup some time back and I almost had to be rushed to the hospital. So, it depends. |
UmuMuhsinah:Beautiful BS. God will keep you and your household and keep multiplying your joy. Congrats once again! |
Anna20:I think babies are expected to be down from around 32 weeks, so you shouldn't really worry about that now. |
Expectantmom:Same here. Doctor put me on more blood multivitamins, close check-up, and possible admission if it doesn't improve by next check-up. |
sunbestie:We are fine o, cappo. Thanks for checking up. Taking it one day at a time. |
Timitoyo:I experienced this too. You need to keep putting your baby to the breast continuously as you would if it was flowing well. Eat healthily even if you don't have much appetite, take lots of pap and pepper soup. The more your baby latches on, the more your body triggers milk production. In a short while, it will normalize. |
yumyogo:Be strong Mama, at times it's like that. When you see the face of your LO, you will be flooded with joy and forget all the pain you've been through. Do some exercise, eat dates and pineapples, play music and dance your dance of joy. Be strong and hang in there. It will end in praise. |
sunbestie:We dey o, we are pushing it. Tiredness no be here. Every small thing na to find where to sit. In all, we thank God. |

youngsahito:You work from home, location is not required. |

Gistme12:When you say widely open, is it that the stitches have loosened and where was stitched is now open? or what you mean is that it looks wide but all the stitches are still intact? If your stitches are loose then you need to go back to the hospital, but if it's the other case, don't worry mama, it's normal. When you do the hot water sitting consistently it closes gradually and everything goes back to normal. It does look scary at first. Also, remember to put detol and whatever else you add to the water, it's important as well. You'll be fine, no worries. |
Ijelenwanyioma:I had a very similar case in my first pregnancy. The discharge was unbelievable but, at a point, I just let it be after I read about it being normal for some women. Also, the itching would come and go till I gave birth. This second time, I got treated for mild infection, but it was with drugs not injection. I asked for injection but the doctor insisted I use drugs instead. So, I think, from my experience, excessive discharge in pregnancy is normal with some women because I wasn't treated for it the last time, but if there's infection included then you will need treatment. Either way, you should seek a second opinion if you are not comfortable with what they want to give you. I called all my doctor and nurse friends to confirm before taking the drugs prescribed for me for the infection treatment. All will be well in the end, you'll be fine. |
sunbestie:Amen. |
Tinudesi:Amen. |
Tinudesi:Yes, very right. Different women experience different kinds of mild pains or cramping during this time of pregnancy and it's usually normal, but if it's severe or the discomfort is too much, you need to visit your hospital and see a doctor. |
opera1:At times, it could be what is called implantation bleeding, I also experienced this with my first child two years ago. Implantation bleeding is usually nothing to worry about, a lot of women experience it in the very early weeks of pregnancy and it stops on it's own. It never increases, just some blood that stops after a while, you can read about it. In some other cases, it could be something more serious. To be on the safe side, you can consult your doctor to be sure of what it is and what to do next. Regardless of what it is, rest is very important for her right now. Let her be on a lot of rest. All will be well. I leave the rest for other mamas to contribute. |
sunbestie:10th October. |
Fineire:We are here . Finally ready to sign up officially. |
labasulla:Big congrats you mama, thank God for safe delivery. |

oke22:Really... I will have to watch what I eat for now then and probably reduce some things. |
