Mind u, Dora is not more qualified Prof Osotimehin as the Health Minister. Prof Osotimehin has been a world class professor of medicine before Dora finished University and he is world acclaimed. He was the Provost of UCH and since he left there, UCH has not been rated as one of the finest teaching hospitals in the worl is it used to be. Prof Osotimehin is in the league of Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, not Akuyili, the gap is damn too wide

The appointment of Osotimehin is probably the rightest peg in the rightest hole.

As for others I really don't understand the rammifications but don't forget they are politicians and they can occupy any portfolio as this is also the practise in the UK as well. I used to buy roast and fried fish over the fence, this was like smuggling cocaine back in those days and if you get caught, you go on suspension or even expelled from the boarding house, but some of us survived.

One afternoon, myself with 2 of my friends "escaped" from the hostel (the ultimate hostel crime)to go to a buka (called white house) to eat fufu and meatless efo-egusi (vegetable) and as we balanced for the meal, our hostel master pulled in, parked his volkswagon beetle and came in to order his own fufu and just came to sit on our table, I remember the bolus of fufu was repeatedly falling of our hands in fear, see shaking. The man finished his food and went to his car as if nothing happened (Mr Odusina - now Rev Cannon-) was the smartest teacher in the world. We were thinking no yawa until the man walked back in to call us to come and help him push his car to jumpstart as the car wouldnt start, as we pushed the car round the bend away from the view of the mama white house (buka owner), Mr Odusina signalled to us that we should stop pushing and he simply started the iginition to get the car running, i.e the push was a ploy to get us into his car and drive us to the hostel for the biggest punishment of all time. But trust yours truly, we also told him that our books were in the buka that he should please allow us to go and get it, We came back to the car with Mama White House, all her staff, all the customers eating in the buka, all the mechanics next shop and even some passers-bye sympathisers. Mr Odusina accept the begging but told us that he must not get to the hostel before us, we quickly made our unfinished fufu and vegetable a takeaway in nylon carrier  bags and the fact that we had those food in the hostel made us some kind of stars back then. My Odusina genuinely earned my respect from that day as a true father.

On another occassion, in the hostel "lights out" time means everyone must be on their beds to sleep and no one must utter a word.But on this fateful night me and some other peeps in my dorm kept chatting after lights out and we didnt realise that Mr Odusina had krept in to lie on an empty bed (the man should have been in FBI) to listen to our gists, and guess what we were talking about, girls girls girls girls. We went on talking about our escapades with girls from AGGS Ijebu ode when they come for Sunday Service in our school as our school housed the cathedral, we must have been  talking for about three hours into the night before Mr Odusina "intervened" and told us to report at the Principal's office the next morning. Of course we showed up at the Principal's office and we admitted that we were talking after "lights out" which was not a big offence but we denied talking about girls and we were left off the hookThe funny bit is that a couple of days later Mr Odusina krept in again but we knew when he was coming in as we had been more vigilant from the previous incident and we quickly changed subject from girls to quoting bible verses, praise-worship songs and how much we loved our school  . Of course Mr Odusina was pissed as he had come this time with a tape recorder

Markos, I have just come off a contract with a top UK GSM/Telecom company and like you rightly mentioned people could be lucky to have their company pay for their training. However, in this company (like many other companies in the UK) the employee must be certified before he/she could attain promotion. This is fast becoming the practice in the UK terrain.

Just like Markos mentioned, SAP jobs could take you places you can only imagine and sit with Directors of big glogal companies as co-stakeholders in an implementaton, I have just had a count and realized that SAP jobs has taken me through 21 countries in all corners of the world (apart from Australia/NewZealand, which is probably next to Pluto ). I even had had meetings with some people that regularly make the Forbes 500 list. The opportunities are limitless, impossible in nothing.

I just hope more Nigerians would have similar drive and opportunities and that more Nigerian companies come to appreciate how SAP/ERPs can transform the fortunes of their establishments. My dream is to practice my job in Nigeria and get equally rewarded just like Im overseas

In my opinion Plant Mainteinance seems to be something that could fit based on your background. But it will do you a lot of favour to actually have a general overview of all the modules to check which would appeal tou most. I have a pal who read Law and is a SD Consultant i.e its not sacrosant you pick on PM as it might not even being used in your company so you may not be able to practise with.


For those that possess the SAP gui on their PCs, my candid advice is that you DONT commence your self training with config- you are better off getting hold of test scripts to practise with to have an understanding of the business processes as a prerequisite. Starting with config will be like putting the cat before the horse, its like trying to build a kitchen without knowing what kitchen implemets are used for

A good SAP Consultant (Functional) has to have the mind of an engineer, inquisitiness of a toddler or scientist ,think and imagine like a designer, diagnostic capabilities like a GP/doctor, corrective abilities like a surgoen and pleasant as a nurse/customer service. The reason is because each of those are required at different phases of an ERP lifecycle which I illustrated below using ASAP methodology

markos, with due respect. Can I please reiterate that the importance of certification in today's SAP market cannot be over-emphasised.

You mentioned that you have 10 years experience and not certified, fine but you will agree with me that the market you entered 10 years ago is completely different from what we have today especially in contracting world. Most clients are so aware cowboys in the industry and ensuring that the consultant they want to contract is certfied is considered a step towards recuiting the right consultant, also many of the recruitment agency tend to prioritise selection for a role with certification status.

I do agree with you that experience is most key in the world of SAP but it is noteworthy of mention that the experience will definitely come with time but certification isnt (you don't get certified because you have 50 years experience). Imagine a situation where a role has to be filled with a SAP resource of 10 years experience and 2 consultants both with solid 10 years experience each apply for that same role - one cerified and the other non-certified (plus bearing some Ijebu-Oyo-Igbo-Itsekiri surname-Oluwafunminiwosan Agbongboakala/Ikechukwu Aondoaakaa Agbakara against some John Smith, Mike Cole etc) The name alone will make the ill-informed recruiter (who probabbly didnt pass through secondary school) throw away your cv. So I believe specifying your certification on your cv aids employabiity in so many ways.

I have spent the last 10 years as a SAP FICO PS TR INV MGT Consultant, the last 8 as a contractor and presently on my 16th contract (all with Fortune100 companies)and theres no doubt that my certification has given me competitive advantage over other applicants on so many occassions. I also know for a fact that a number of the big  SAP Implementation Partners (at least in the UK) - Accenture/IBM/Axon/Atos etc - are increasingly insisting on certification for their consultants and potential recruits.

Can I also mention that I, from time to time, get called by my previousl clients to help them interview applicants and I know cerification has been the basis of choosing some consultants over the others- don't get me wrong experience is also the main driver and basis but the recent trend is that many well-experienced (both certified and non-certified) consultants gun for same roles.

Certification gives you eternal access to OSS/SAP Support Portal without having to use a company/client OSS access and that way you can continously update yourself.

There is a big difference between an Accountant and a Chartered Accountant!!!

I would advise that for my naija folks, its always better to be certified in whatever we do, be it Accounting, Engineering, Medicine and even SAP

Just to butress what kiwi992 has mentioned here, certification in your chosen module is very very key. Here in the UK, the SAP resource market (agents) are fully aware of the cowboys in the industry and mentioning that you are certified allays some of the negative perceptions, especially with a non-english name or accent.

For those seeking the SAP Academy training as mentioned in previous posts, please NEVER settle for all those website mentioned as most of the trainers there hardly know their left from right. Theres a popular one in Wembley area of London where they teach them rubbish and it saddens me that more than 95% of students there are Nigerians. How can we let some Indians be smarter than us. I have had course to interview the FICO trainer in that center for roles twice in the last 3 years and the guys has not passed the interviews. How do you expect some half trained "consultant" deliver excellent training.

Guys, please explore www.sap.com/education and you will see all the SAP certified training centres and approved partners all over the world.

SAP involves a lot of hardwork which is highly rewarded, but please you cannot underestimate the hardwork that goes along with it.

Its about time we naija people take insurance of life and valued properties much more importantly. Methinks health insurance should also be made taken more seriously by the working class.

Good speeches and showbiz campaigns don't neccessarily translates to being a good president. G.W Bush Snr is a classic example. Going by antecedents, McCain is the best candidate but he runs an umimpressive campaign trail and age is not on his side in modern US politics

2.  MBA

Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM), Treasury (TR), Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), Sales and Distribution (SD), Human Resources (HR).  All of these seem to fit well with your background.

Can I please point out that if you don't have the necessary Accounting training or experience, you will struggle with Treasury module of SAP, SAP TR is a further ninche specialty of the SAP FICO modules and many FICO Consultants even struggle with the Treasury sub-module. Of all the SAP modules, SAP strongly recommend that for FICO, you should have the necessary relevant experience, you can be trained in HR, SD, MM from scratch without any special prior expertise in those areas but not same for SAP FICO or Treasury

I think Kiwi992 has given very good insight here but please note that SAP is not same as many other disciplines in IT its an ERP and a completely different ball game and I have seen many Nigerians here in the UK thinking they can have a quick fix training from many of these cowboy trainers and drive a supercar the following week. SAP is a career and not a 'rave of the moment' (fad)

I have been an Independent SAP Certified Consultant for 8 years speacialising in FICO, PS and Investment Mgt, TR, and IS Oil &Gas with involvement in at least 15 SAP implementations between the EU, USA and Middle-East and know that SAP is definitely not a piece of cake, I only pray more Nigerian companies can implement the software so naija is not left far too behind in global developments in business solution technology.

If you cant dream big, allow those who can.

You must be under the illussion that only perfect companies advertise, if so there wont be ANY advert throughout the world. I dont know where you live or how much global experience you have, but if do have international exposure, you will admit that world's top companies has many inadequacies, errors and terrible mistakes and this doesnt mean they cease advert. I have worked for 15 out of the world's biggest companies accross about 17 countries (FTSE 100 & NYSE 250) as a consultant and see that there is no perfect system anywhere in the world.

Come to banks here in the UK and sit for an hour to see the kind of ridiculous mistakes are performed on customers' accounts.

When you start you business, dont advertise and be waiting for when you will be a perfect entity, you'll see how soon you will be grounded, som serious entrpreneur will buy you out after seeing the offer on an advert!

UI is probably the only school that cant be named after ANY individual, whether living or dead.
