BusinessRe: Nigerian Banks That Advertise On CNN by JJay1(m): 1:09pm On Jul 03, 2008
Theres nothing wrong in Nigerian banks advertising on foreign cable channels. You need to live abroad to understand how twisted an average European, American and Asian view Nigeria and Nigerians. We need a lot of positive image laundering to the world and its nice these bank are doing these. Even Indians think Nigeria is rubbish ( which I personally find insulting especially coming from these dirty and stinking part of the world)

Also dont forget that these banks are now opening shop abroad so their target market is fast expanding accross the globe and they need to advertise. Dont forget, business that fails to advertise will be sold through advertising!

On our best day, we can beat FAROE ISLANDS on their worst day. Mind you, the country has a population of just 48,000. 7 of their national team members are part-time footballers and they don't have enough man on reserve bench and during training they cant get up to 22 players to play 11 vs 11!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PropertiesRe: Why Pay House Rent In Advance? by JJay1(m): 4:27pm On Jun 11, 2008
Why do you have to pay rent in advance? Simple, because of gross imbalance in supply and demand.

There are millions of potential tenants against very few landlords, thereby giving the landlord more negotiation power. It simple law of economics and the situation can only be solved with economics. If the cost of building materials are within the reach of the lowest paid in Nigeria, the table shall surely turn in favour of tenants.

I can only laugh when people are advocating laws to prosecute landlords for collecting rents in advance, and if the Attorney-General actually recommended that law, then he must really be an slowpoke who should have nothing to do with the law profession. Why? Because if you jail someone for collect rent in advance, in order for balance in law, then you have to jail a tenant for defaulting in rent payment.

And considering that there are much more tenants in Naija than landlords, that means that the law will hit much harder in the poor (tenants) which, given the situation of economic hardship in Naija, are more likely to default than landlords defaulting. Our inadequate jails will then be filled up with tenants.

For those who uses UK as example, my question to them is that do we have same economy in Naija as UK? There is no national credit database or electoral record that shows whre everyone lives at any given point in time.

PoliticsRe: Oyo Lawmakers To Receive N20m Each by JJay1(m): 2:16pm On May 12, 2008
Apart fromthe late Bola Ige, Oyo State has been cursed with myopic, un-progressive, numskulls and nonentities as governors. I visited naija a few days ago and spent a night in Ibadan, it was just terrible. No sign of any meaningful development compared to the time I left in 2002. I know Lagos might not be Canaan but I still saw that it has really changed and improved within the same timeframe.

Ibadan still has the VERY SAME potholes that wrecked the shock absorbers of my car in 2001!!!!

As long as scoundrels are elected into the govt house and the house of assembly, we will never record any meaningful growth.

Isnt it ridiculous that Oyo State has a skin-bleacher for a governor? for Bleep's sake
CareerRe: Why This Discrimination Between B.Sc & HND? by JJay1(m): 1:57pm On Apr 11, 2008
Take it or leave it, HND is not at par with a Bachelor degree ANYWHERE in the world. HND are awarded by institutions both in UK and US and to get a BSc you will still need to go back to school for another one and half years or so. I think HND holders in Nigeria should consider themselves lucky that some organisations still take them at same entry level with BSc and that they go for NYSC program.

In the 80s, NCE holders were allowed to go for NYSC alongside HND and BSC graduates, and many of the NCE holders were deluded that their certificate is same as HND and BSc because of this, its the same delusion that worries present HND holders thinking what they have is same as BSc.

To teach in a HND program you need to have a degree, to head a polytechnic you need to have a PhD from a university, don't that tell you something?

HND holders are best taken for direct entry 200 in the university, may be they should allow them to go in to 300level but it shouldnt be more than that.

Diplomas arent same as degrees!!! Period

RomanceRe: Would You End A Beautiful Relationship Over Religious Differences? by JJay1(m): 1:49pm On Apr 04, 2008
In the last few days, I have put this questions to 28 of my British and American colleagues and friend and here are the results;

Yes - 2

No - 24

Not sure - 2

Thats about 86% thinks difference in religion is no reason to terminate a beautiful relationship.

And we wonder why these UK & US societies are successful and advanced against our Nigerian utterly backwardness back to the stone age. The problem with most Nigerians is that they think they are more of xtians and moslems than the oyinbos that gave them the religion. One of the many reasons Naija will continue to be bad

And it baffles me that even the so-called younger and educated generation of the Naija society that is suppose to know better as as ignorant as the those that lived in the 15th century

Most Americans actually think Africa is one country where people still wear leaves
TravelRe: United States Of America Vs United Kingdom by JJay1(m): 10:31am On Apr 03, 2008
UK is 100% better than the US, whyhuh check out the exchange rate---> £1=$2.

America claims to be the richest country but unequal distribution of income is massive, many of the victims of hurricane Catrina are still homeless, 2 years after, this simply cannot happen here in the UK.

Check out the "projects" estates in US it can only be compared to Mushin, however there is no council estate in the UK without basic amenities like electricity, hotwater and cold water, gas telephone facilities and are fair in terms of cleanliness, trust me these are luxury in the US

On health issues, in the UK there is a State funded and no matter how poor you are you will still get the same healthcare just as the millionaires but in the US the hospital would not even take a second look at you without the health insurance. In the UK if you have a baby healthcare is free for both mother and child for 1 year whilst its still free for the child until 18 years!!!

The US is rich but a vast number of citizens live in abject poverty that is compared to the poorest countries in the world.

In the summer of 2005, I was in Philadelphia and to my amazement I saw boys and girls of about 10-15years old were hawking bottled water to motorists during school hours, I have live in the UK for 6 years and I know that just can't happen.

I'll choose the UK, then Naija, maybe then US

RomanceRe: Would You End A Beautiful Relationship Over Religious Differences? by JJay1(m): 12:38pm On Mar 31, 2008
Its simply myopia (short-sightedness) and utter ignorance that makes people think difference in religion cannot lead to beautiful and lasting marital union, if both parties understand that religion is about you having a relationship with your creator.

The problem here is not the religion, but Nigerians that have to take things to the extreme, The oyinbos that brought xtianity to Africa hardly goes to church, it is for a fact that churches in London that gets attended are mostly by 98% foreigners. As a matter of fact Sundays are days of beer drinking for the Oyinbos.

Most Nigerian pastors and Imams feed congregations with so many bolllocks in order to get a firm hold on them and be able to commercialise religion as it is presently witnessed in Nigeria. It still baffles me that the pastor must approve your fiance or else there will be no marriage in most Naija pentecostal churches, how rubbish, when its not the pastor that will live your life.

Its not just about Christian marrying a moslem or the other way round only, many xtians would not even allow their kids or church member even marry into another xtian congregation eg a "Redeemer" would not marry a "Cele". In the Igbo part of Naija Anglicans and Catholics don't inter-marry though they are both xtians, as a matter of fact a former female colleague of mine had her father killed in 2002 by fellow kinsmen because he allowed his daughter to marry an Anglican while they are Catholics, what nonsense

I'm so sick of people stupidly mis-interpreting the verse of the bible that says "do not be equally yoked with an unbeliever" as "do not marry someone from other faith", An unbiliever is someone that does not believe and worship the Almighty- creator of heaven and earth and all that lies within. The fact that someone is a moslem or Jew or Catholic or Anglican does make them unbelivers, fools!!

Many moslem preachers also stupidly preach non marrying of moslems to other faiths  because of selfishness and ignorance, The Holy Great Book  chapter 2:6 says "Surely those who believe (moslems), and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in God and the Last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve"

The truth is that all these religious stratifications are perculiar to Nigerians mostly. And we Nigerians don't just stop to wonder why all the pastors are so rich in a country that is ridden with poverty

And being in same religion or congregation does not in any way guarantee marital success, a trip to the divorce courts would reveal to you the reasons most couples separate, you would hardly find 1 out of 100,000 being because of difference in religion

Inspiring couples like Bola & Remi Tinubu, Simeon Oduoye etc have shown us that differences in religion doesnt stop marital bliss.

I'm a practicing a moslem married to xtian (assistant pastor) and I happily take her and the kid church programs.

Also I'm a a molsem but the verse of my life is taken from the Holy Bible, Proverbs 22:29

Am I the only one that thinks people such as Rilwan Lukman, Ciroma, Alhaji Alhaji, Amos Adamu etc that have been running Nigeria for almost 50 years should banned from holding any public posts or even talking in public.

I am an ardent believer that the Nigerian power sector should be privatised, this was what Tinubu was trying to do in Lagos that OBJ frustrated him, what happened eventually, OBJ spent $10billion (or is it ($16billion) part of which was to implement private sector in the power sector, upon all these amount spent nothing spectacular to show for it.

All these crooks in govt are telling us that it is not possible to privatise the power sector because they know the avenue for stealing via NEPA will end, they said exactly same thing about communication many years back that privatisng the telephone business will not work in Nigeria, we can all see they are wrong, I remember those days that NITEL officials were so powerful that it takes serious connections, long leg and a lot of bribing just to get a telephone in the house/office, nowadays a 7 years hold has probably never heard a NITEL phone ring in his/her life,

Alll the govt "fat cows" know that privatisation will spell doom for them as common man will be free from their claws

Even the British Gas in the UK does not belong to the British govt

Why are people making it sound as if banking is a job and not a career? What is a career? Must you read banking to reach the top in a bank? I can list up to ten Nigerian banks' MDs who read courses that are nothing near banking or related coureses. One of them is was a first class oil engineer. Education is about adaptation. In Nigeria of today, money is not everything, it is the only thing. Money creates passion where none exist hitherto.

Thank you klas, guys banking is a fantastic career and dont be surprised that many of the banks MD/EDs actually have first degree in engineering. As a matter of fact big banks in Europe and the US would actually recruit an engineering graduate before considering a graduate of Finance/Accounting/Bus Admn. At the moment Goldman Sachs (a global financial giant) tours UK and US top Universities to recruit penultimate and final year engineering students. You'll be surprised that so many Nigerian engineers are benefitting from this.

Also, the way the Nigerian financial industry is going, it is inevitable that the bank would have a technology division which encompasses their IT, Hardwares, Softwares, Applications & ERPs which would be a fantastic area for engineers to grow and at the same time earn respectful salaries. My younger cousin graduated from FUT Minna over a year ago in engineering and is in IT division with UBA, he keeps telling me its the best job in the world for him.

My advice to this guy is that he take the banking job and try to get into their IT/Technology division later, I understand that he is being offered a marketing job now but  trust me its better scheming from within the organisation rather than from outside.

CareerRe: Two Offers: A Banking Job And An Engineering Job by JJay1(m): 4:56pm On Feb 12, 2008
Truth is that theres no gain without pains. A lot of people complain of the bank jobs because of laziness. If you wanna get to the top, expect difficult times and NEVER settle for convinience

My advice is that if you are passionate about being an engineer, why not take the banking job, save hard for about a year and pursue a Masters degree in engineering (possibly abroad), will will make it easier to pick up a good engineering job later. It is when you are trying to climb up to management levels in your engineering field that you will see that you banking experience will give you an edge

You can try University of Aberdeen or any good school in Europe.

But if you settle for the 60K engineering job, you'll struggle to make a good living for yourself and what would you have achieved in the medium term, not much if you ask me.

hello please does anyone have an idea of companies that employ 3rd class gradutes.PLs I need to know.tkns

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Try the mechanic shop by the roadside, they might recruit 3rd class graduates cry

On a more serious note, if you want good employment I suggest you go back to school to erase the 3rd class. Unles your dad is the MD, no tp company will take you in fpr a serious job

To the guy that asked if they asked those who schooled abroad for 2:1. If they want to work in Europe, yes. If it is in Nigeria, you cant compare 2:2 from an average Uni in UK to the 2:1 form the best in Naija. The employers know this thats why they will prefer to take on 2:2 for US/Europe compared to the Nigerian contemporaries

Just curious, so does this mean those that fall under the 2.2 and 3rd class are  to be left unemployed since they are the undesirables? now we know why so many people are unemployed in nigeria.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It doesnt mean they will be left unemployed, it means they have to queue behind those wh pull their weight in school. Or they go and get extra studies to be able to compete in a tight labour market.

What is the point of working so hard in school to make a 1st or 2:1 if it wont mean anything in entering employment ladder. Think about it.
This is not perculiar to Naija, most FTSE/NYSE Fortune 500 companies would not take you with anything less than a 2:1
