The economy is shrinking, where's the job? Most civil servants have the advantage of getting a side business but small scale busineses are also feeling the heat.

Increasing minimum wage across board also means choking existing businesses through taxation whom will then transfer the burden to the populace.
The only feasible solution from my view is to bring back subsidy partly to boost productivity then widen the tax net to increase government revenue.

Engaging workers on part-time basis and paying them hourly is also a feasible option. That way, people would be paid based on their inputs. They'll no longer have to work like elephants while eating like ants. The Nigerian labour market as it is today is too exploitative!

We need to adopt the western system of paying workers per hour and for the total number of hours they put in every month! We should stop having some employers enslave fellow Nigerians just because there's unemployment!

In our society where men are expected to be the one who should woo the women, spend his money and resources to marry her and also work very hard to provide for their wives and children, it is foolish for any lady to focus on physical appearance and looks in choosing a man. This is because looks are deceptive and can mask a man's bad characters. Also, women are too emotional and find it difficult to separate emotions from reality.

Therefore, until we change the status quo and stop placing the responsibility of providing for the family solely on men and also stop the culture of having the man spend hugely in the process of getting married to a woman, any lady who fails to base her choice of a man on his financial stability is doing herself and her children a great disservice!

Unless such ladies are willing and able to take up the responsibility of providing for the family and settling their own marriage requirements, choosing their men solely on the basis of looks is not something I'll advise any lady to do.

This is what I have been saying here! Nigerian workers are suffering! Cost of everything has increased astronomically. Here in Enugu, house rent has risen by over 500%! Food items, transportation etc have also increased by same proportion. The only thing that has remained constant is worker's salaries!

Salaries now finish within one week of payment, leaving workers and their families suffering for the rest of the month. Honestly, government has to take decisive actions to address this issue of worker's salaries. It is either they increase minimum wage to at least ₦500k per month or introduce a new system that would allow workers get paid hourly wages and work multiple jobs at same time.

That part of civil service rules that stipulate that workers should not work multiple jobs while on full-time employment by government has to be done away with. People should be free to work multiple jobs and get paid based on the number of hours they put in for each organisation every month. That's the alternative to increasing minimum wage to at least ₦500k per month.

I'm sure that adult teachers are not the ones responsible for these pregnancies but young boys of the same age as the girls.

Due to the influence of social media and technological advancements, more and more girls have become sexually exposed and promiscuous. This is why I strongly support early marriage for the girls 16 years and above!

It is better to have them married off to responsible men with the financial capacity to provide for them and their children than to have them reproduce out of wedlock and for younger boys who cannot even take care of themselves not to talk of taking care of others.

But some people have refused to see the importance of having such girls married off on time. They'll rather continue feigning wokeness and wannabes while our society keep degrading.

The truth of the matter is that it is not difficult to tell people with a common ancestry apart. All through my stay in UNIBEN, I interacted with the Igbo people of the Bendel region and I can tell you that there's no significant difference between them and the southeast Igbos.
That is the surest way of knowing people with a common ancestry!

Go to the homes of these people and compare with your experience as an Igbo person in your typical Igbo village, you'll see that everything feels similar!

Governor Mbah has really shown us that good governance is possible when the people choose the right man to govern them.

This is one measure government needs to take to help control prices of essential commodities in our markets. Government should open our borders to more foreign traders especially Chinese traders. It is very important!

Please do some research: whenever there's an increase in MW, there's a corresponding increase in the general cost of goods and services. It's basic economics. Nothing like price control here, as price fixing doesn't work and actually leads to higher prices.

What is happening in Nigeria is beyond the basic economics you talk about! It is people taking advantage of others. The so called employers and their families, especially in the private sector, are simply living large with the sweat and blood of their employees. Many of them can afford to pay their workers well and still live large but they just derive pleasure in suppressing their employees and seeing them suffer!

That is why it is very important for government to intervene by taking measures towards regulating wages across board and also controlling prices. During the military regimes, they controlled prices and I believe that the present dispensation can still do the same.

If government doesn't want to raise minimum wage, then my suggestion of introducing hourly rate wages should be considered. Also, people should be free to work multiple jobs at the same time and get paid based on the number of hours they worked per month.

Wount that cause inflation? Not all business can pay that amount, rather inflation should be brought down and the naira made to appreciate in value. If you earned 150k 12years ago, you should earn atleast 1.5m today to live similar livestyle.

By doing this, people can be free to work multiple jobs and get paid based on the number of hours they worked. Simple! We shouldn't be rigid about having workers be at work from morning to evening only to end up receiving peanuts as salaries at the end of the month.

The price of drugs and other commodities will not skyrocket if necessary measures are taken to control all the other factors that could lead to such price increases.

Yes, I run a pharmacy and I can tell you that even in pharmacy, we pay hourly wages sometimes.

Mind you government employs less than 2% of the national population.

Those who cannot afford to pay ₦500k should pay hourly wages and employ people on part-time basis. This will enable people to hold multiple jobs and earn living wages. It is evil to have people doing 9-5 jobs, 5days a week and 22 days a month only to be paid peanuts at the end of the month.

Nigeria's labour market needs a total overhaul! We need to start paying hourly wages so that people are paid based on the number of hours they put in on daily basis. Also, workers should be allowed to keep multiple jobs provided they get paid based on the number of hours they put in.

Alternatively, government should increase minimum wage to at least 500k so that workers can earn what would sustain them for the month. The current system is not working! This is why many people now resort to cutting corners and taking bribes to make ends meet.

In my state, the Government are giving out FREE prepaid meters.

If you go there, they'll tell you it's NOT available.

They make people pay HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of Naira for something the Government made FREE.

And IF you try to ask why they are so CORRUPT and EXPLOITATIVE, they'll tell you it's because their salary is TOO small.
Meanwhile, they are some of the most WELL-PAID people in Nigeria.

They are just GREEDY.

Then when the Government tries to CURB their excesses, they'll THREATEN strike.

Anytime I have cause to deal with Nigerian Public workers, I come away feeling FLEECED and laying GENERATIONAL CURSES like a struggling market woman who's just been DUPED with a fake transfer.

They COMPLAIN about corrupt politicians.
But MANY of them are WORSE.

That's why we need DEATH SENTENCE for petty crimes in the Public Sector.

From the Politicians to the lowliest workers.

Why will you EXTORT people who are already STRUGGLING?

One of the causes is the poor remuneration of workers in Nigeria! Everybody is now looking for survival means!

Nigeria's civil service is long overdue for reforms! If governments know they cannot pay workers living wages, let them reform the civil service so as to pay workers hourly for the periods they worked and stop having workers work 9-5 for 5 days a week and 26 days per month. This will enable workers keep multiple jobs based on their capabilities!

The current system is not working! People's salaries no longer last up to 10days after being paid! How do you want them to survive if not by "fleecing" others! Do we even think at all in this country!

Uche Nnaji is not a serious contender in the guber election. Take that to the bank!

You don't even know anything about Nkanu people! Mbah is of Nkanu East origin and Nkanu East is the mainstream Nkanu with higher voting population. I understand that Nkanu people are one people but going by your point of view, Peter Mbah would have the upper hand compared to Nnaji. Uche Nnaji is poorly educated and not fit to govern our dear state!

The case of Mbah's NYSC certificate was decided in court and in his favour. I followed the matter.

Your principal forged both degree certificate and NYSC at the same time. A man who could not finish ordinary BSc Biochemistry/microbiology is not fit to govern our dear state! The fact that some of you think that Uche Nnaji stands any chance in next year's election is really amusing!

Like I said before, Uche Nnaji's defeat would be announced before noon on the election day. I don't even see him as a serious contender for the Enugu state governorship seat.

UK is still far better than Nigeria in terms of security, job opportunities and general economic wellbeing. Workers in Nigeria are currently facing a very terrible economic reality and there's no hope in sight as to when things would improve. Cost of living has increased astronomically without a commensurate increase in wages and this has pushed many civil servants in Nigeria into lives of misery.

Whenever it comes to workers' welfare that's when your ilks remember about basic monetary economics! All the other indices that have contributed to inflation should be checked, not worker's salaries! This is because Nigerian workers are among the least paid workers all around the world!

Honestly, minimum wage in Nigeria should be around ₦500k considering the prevailing economic conditions. Civil servants are really suffering this time due to rising cost of living!

Imagine having your salary exhausted just within one week of receiving it. Then you have no choice than keep borrowing till the month ends. It's not easy at all! I don't know if those at the helm of affairs in this country even think about the plight of civil servants at all!

If I'm to address an audience, I see the people as an assembly of my debtors who desperately need the message I'm about to pass to have their debts cleared by me.
