Whether obi attends or not, you and I know a South easterner cannot even emerge as presidential candidate of ApC or PDP ..so what's your point exactly.

Our educational system needs reviewing, and the culprit is, our students this days are getting extremely LAZY, they want to flex too much while studying.
In an ideal setting, you are supposed to do a 4 year biochemistry course before you apply for pharmacy and most most universities abroad will give you Dr of pharmacy when you are done. Chemistry is the bedrock of pharmacy

Christianity EtcRe: What Did Jesus Mean By "The Poor Will Always Be Among You"? by Jman24(m): 9:01pm On Nov 17, 2019
It is very important not to pick words literally to drive a point. The most important aspect of a message from someone is the intent of the heart so we don't quote out of context. "The poor will always be among you" ... Jesus was trying to tell them the right things can be done and doesn't need an announcement. Same way people just feel they have done one big favour for someone and boom! They have already posted it on social media as so called "spirited individuals" . So, do things rightly because it is right. And either way, giving arms to the poor and using oil on Jesus's feet are all good provided it's done without being hipocritical

PoliticsDeji Alleges DSS Offered N1m Bribe To Stop #freesoworeprotest (pics) by Jman24(op): 10:28pm On Nov 12, 2019
Coalition of Civil Society groups today protested continued detention of Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services.

The protesters are seeking the release of Mister Sowore who is accused of treason and has been in detention more than one week after meeting his bail conditions as pronounced by the court.

But the DSS had in a press statement said that Mr Sowore is still in its custody because no one has come to receive him.

One of the protesters, Deji Adeyanju, has alleged that he was offered one million naira not to participate in the protest. He made the allegation during the march at the DSS office in Abuja.

Mr Adeyaju displayed the money which is in five hundred naira denomination and even mentioned names of those who offered the bribe.

There was also another allegation by a reporter with Guardian Newspaper, Oludare Richard, of being assaulted by officials of the Department of State Services while covering the protest.

PoliticsRe: We Must Enthrone Good Governance For The Good Of Nigeria - Governor Wike by Jman24(op): 1:45pm On Nov 07, 2019
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that the time has come for unnecessary politics to be relegated and governance enthroned for the good of Nigerians.
Speaking during a Courtesy Visit by the Ministers of Education and Women Affairs at the Government House Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Governor Wike said that Nigerians require good governance for development.
He said: “Leadership is not party affair. Leadership is about people. It is about development. For now, governance is what our people require.

“We should relegate politics to the background. Political parties as vehicles take us to a certain point for us to disembark and face governance.”
He said rather than politicise the development process, focus should be on how to move Nigeria forward.
Governor Wike said that Rivers people are not happy with the high level of marginalisation against the State. He said with the conclusion of elections, Rivers State should benefit like other states.

“Honourable Minister, when you go back, inform Mr President that the people of Rivers State are not happy with the high level of marginalisation. Rivers State should benefit from projects like other states of the Federation “, he said.
He warned against any attempt to run a one-party state.
“We cannot run a one-party State. If we do that, the country will collapse. You cannot take every state. It is not possible “, he said.

Governor Wike said that even though he wished that President Muhammadu Buhari lost the last General Election, immediately the court pronounced him winner, he was left with no option but to congratulate him.
The Governor advocated the promotion of Girl-Child Education. He said that during his days as a Minister of State for Education, he advanced the ideals of Girl-Child Education.

In his remarks, Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu commended the Rivers State Governor for his dedication to the development of Education. He also praised the Governor for supporting the hosting of the National Council on Education.
He thanked the Rivers State Governor for his total support for the sustenance of Federal Government agencies operating in Rivers State.
He said that the Rivers State Governor left indelible marks at the Federal Ministry of Education, which the current management has struggled unsuccessfully to surpass.

He praised Governor Wike’s brand of politics, which is devoid of bitterness. He specifically lauded the Governor for congratulating the President on his victory and also being on the ground to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari when he returned from a medical leave.
“You play politics with fairness and without bitterness “, he said.

Really?
Politics2023:Igbo Political Class Will Ensure Emergence Of Southeast President-iwuanyawu by Jman24(op):
Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, is not relenting in his advocacy for an Igbo president in 2023. Iwuanyanwu, a PDP board of trustees member, has stated that the Igbo political class will unite and ensure a southeast president emerges in 2023. He stated this at the 81st birthday celebration of a four-time senator, Chief Arthur Nzeribe, in Imo state. “When you come to the south, the south-west and south-southern part of the country have both produced presidents. It is therefore the turn of the south-east to produce the president of this country, come 2023 in the interest of equity and fairness. This is non-negotiable,” he said.

Iwuanyanwu, who recalled the strong case made by Nzeribe for restructuring of Nigeria as overdue, extolled the call by the celebrant for the Igbo presidency. There have been loud calls for power shift to the southeast in 2023 and Iwuanyanwu has been one of those in the forefront of the advocacy.

Recently, a former president of the Ijaw National Congress, Prof Kimse Okoko, has said that for the sake of unity of Nigeria, no other region should contest the 2023 presidency with the Igbo. Okoko said the push by some northern politicians for the region to retain power is provocative, even as he called for Nigeria to be restructured along the lines of true federalism before 2023. Meanwhile, a northern elder, Dasuki Nakande, has advised the southeast people of Nigeria to warm their way into the hearts of the other regions of the country in order to stand a chance to produce the next Nigerian president in 2023.

Christianity EtcPoverty, A Choice Or Not? : Biblical Perspective (part 1) by Jman24(op):
Unfortunately, when dealing with the term poverty, one is limited by language. The word poverty has many different meanings and is expressed in many different ways. These meanings and their subsequent expressions often seem to contradict one another, so it is important to understand the correlating concepts in order to impact individuals affected by poverty.

The biblical worldview, shaped by the original languages of the Scripture, understands poverty in very concrete ways. The Lausanne Committee for World Evangelism published a report detailing the various Hebrew words for poverty and the poor. Among their conclusions was the following observation:

The language of poverty in the Old Testament indicates an understanding that demands the attention of Christians. The poverty of “the wretched of the earth” is clearly shown to be caused by injustice. They are oppressed and downtrodden, subjected and dependent, powerless, defenseless and exploited, yearning for justice and dignity. The economic poverty they experience is the result of a prior social poverty that is politically structured and maintained. Biblically, they are powerless and poor because others are powerful…they are kept dependent to conserve the position of the privileged.

Foreign AffairsBreaking: Israeli Embassy, Shut Down Diplomatic Operations In Nigeria. by Jman24(op): 9:23am On Nov 02, 2019
The Israeli embassy has shut down diplomatic operations in Abuja from Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019.

The embassy had via its social media page announced that the closure was due to decision of the Israeli Ministry of Finance to breach the understandings that were agreed upon. The embassy said the agreement was signed by the Director General of the Ministry of Finance on July 21, 2019 and to apply a one-sided procedure that alters protocol that has been in place for several decades.

“We are forced to close the diplomatic mission; no consular services will be provided and no one will be allowed to enter the Embassy and Consulate.
“Israeli diplomats are committed at all times to strive to enhance Israel’s strength and resilience.
Unfortunately, the decision of the Ministry of Finance does not leave us any choice, but to take the above-mentioned action.
“Since the vital interests of the State of Israel have been harmed, we hope that this crisis will be resolved as soon as possible,”

The Israeli Embassy in Nigeria is a window to Israel-Nigeria relations and the promotion of diplomatic ties between both countries. Israel, a small country approximately the size of Niger State is the only Jewish country globally with population of nine million people of whom Jews comprise around 80 per cent.

Foreign AffairsUS President, To Leave Trump Tower For His New Home At Florida. by Jman24(op):
US President, Donald Trump, has announced he will make Florida his permanent home instead of Trump Tower in New York.

He said he had been badly treated by New York's political leaders, despite having paid millions of dollars in tax.

Mr Trump was born in New York but has increasingly spent more time at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach.

The president, a Republican, has been at odds with New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio - both Democrats.

They both welcomed the news that the president was Florida-bound.

"Don't let the door hit you on the way out or whatever," tweeted Mr De Blasio.

Mr Cuomo challenged Mr Trump's assertion that he had paid his taxes, adding: "He's all yours, Florida."

President Trump is running for a second term in next year's election and made clear on Thursday that he hoped to be in the White House for another five years.
An apartment in Trump Tower, Manhattan, has been Mr Trump's primary residence since 1983. It is not clear if he will retain it.

According to NBC News, President Trump has spent 99 days at Mar-a-Lago compared with 20 days at Trump Tower since taking office.

The White House has not commented on the president's reasons for changing his permanent address but the New York Times quoted a person close to the president as saying that the reasons were mainly for tax purposes.

Florida does not have a state income tax or inheritance tax.

Earlier this month a judge ordered Mr Trump to hand over eight years of his tax returns to New York investigators.

The ruling helps an investigation into alleged hush money paid to two women who claim they had affairs with Mr Trump.

PropertiesFG To Begin Sale Of New Housing Units Soon Nationwide by Jman24(op): 9:01pm On Oct 31, 2019
The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Wednesday, said that the ministry would soon commence the sale of housing units built under the National Housing Programme nationwide.

He said that this would be done through an online subscription to allow for transparency and reduce human interference to the barest in the allocation process.

Represented by Mrs. Sarah Alawode, Controller, Federal Ministry of Housing, Fashola said that housing, apart from being one of the major needs of a man, holds great potential for the economic well being of Lagos State and Nigeria at large.

“It, therefore, behooves on us all to ensure that the art and practice of housing delivery in all ramifications are advanced for the benefit of the country and teeming population seeking shelter on a daily basis,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the support of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council in driving the Ease of Doing Business (EODB) would, among other things, enhance the confidence of prospective land buyers in the system.

Christianity EtcDeduct Tithes Straight From Workers’ Salaries For Churches, Archbishop Begs by Jman24(op): 2:16pm On Oct 30, 2019
The Archbishop of Kampala, Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, has suggested that the government of Uganda deduct tithe from workers’ salaries.

Speaking during a mass, the Catholic Archbishop said many Christians don’t tithe and this affects church projects, reports Citizen Kenya.

“Whenever we ask for tithe, everyone gives only what they have at that time. But the Bible says a tenth of whatever you earn belongs to the church,” said Archbishop Lwanga.

“Give me your support as I front this proposal because it is good for us. Aren’t you tired of putting money in the baskets all the time?”

“I was told Germans made agreements with their government to deduct monthly tithe from their salaries and forward it to the church and this money they use to build and renovate their churches,” he added.

Jman24:
General Yakubu Gowon wants Nigerian youths to gain from his experience. The former military head of state seems ready to open up on some issues he witnessed and was part of in the past. The retired military general will be addressing Nigerian youths sometime in February 2020. Nigeria's former military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, has promised to give insights into some of the activities that led to the Nigeria civil war. Gowon made the pledge while receiving an award from a coalition of civil society youth groups. The groups had awarded Gowon the honour as the Global Peace Initiatives lifetime patron. The groups also asked the former military president to take out time for his busy schedule to address the issues that prompted the war under a programme to be called: 'A Day with Gowon.' Speaking on behalf of the groups, the executive director Global Peace Initiatives Nigeria, Ambassador Badamasi Sadiq Ibrahim informed General Gowon that the younger generation would love to hear from him. He also stated that it would be an honour for the youths to hear what prompted Gowon's genuine commitment to a peaceful and united Nigeria, stressing that it is a legacy worthy of emulation especially to young Nigerians. Reacting to the request, Gowon promised to be available in February 2020 for the event due to his other engagements before then.

PoliticsRESTRUCTURING: Which Of The Points Would Be Your "Immediate Pick"? by Jman24(op): 12:37pm On Oct 27, 2019
Indeed, the call for restructuring has rested within the following headlines:

1. Devolution of Power

It has been argued that the present political landscape has concentrated powers at the center, making the states and local government very weak. As a result of this quagmire, many have advocated that the political structure be devolved from the center to the federating unit as against the current system, which tends towards unitary system of government.

2. Fiscal Federalism

Resource control has been another burning issue. The proponent of this idea would readily cite the success story of the South West, which judiciously utilized its resources from the export of cocoa to develop its region. Regrettably, with the over dependence on oil, these hitherto buoyant States are now more or less begging States.

3. Creation of Additional States

There is agitation over the need to create additional States. The logic here is that States with large landmass may be unable to cover the needs of their residents. Oyo State for example is too big to be handled by an administrator. However, it is the view of the researchers that much more is required than State creation if Nigerians are going to truly enjoy the dividends of democracy.

4. Establishment of State Police

With the spate of killings in Nigeria and the inability of the security outfits to combat this crime, it has been suggested that the federal structure of the Nigerian police will be unworkable, going forward. The Peace Corp Bill sent to the President for presidential assent was declined. Many have also advanced that States should be made to have their State-level police. The merit in this argument is that it would facilitate intelligence gathering. This could also encourage the State government to provide more support to the police. However, while State police might be helpful, if other issues affecting functionality of the police are not addressed, the situation might remain unchanged. For example, if the police remain unequipped, their capacities to combat crime remain unimproved and if the wanton corruption in the police force is not squarely addressed, it is unlikely that the restructuring of the police would achieve any meaningful result. By the way, the police could become the tool for manipulations, just as State Governors have also hijacked the activities of the State Electoral Commissions across the 36 States of the Federation.

5. Local Government Autonomy

The experience of many local government areas in the last three years now justifies the need to restructure the local government system. While many of the States in Nigeria only waited till about one year to the end of their respective administration before conducting elections into the various councils, these ‘appointed’ Chairmen are still tied to the aprons of their Governors who may suspend or remove the Chairmen at any given time. Suffice to state that the rhetoric for restructuring actually dates back to about two decades ago. However, despite the clamour over these years, the government seem not to have paid much attention, except of course, with President Jonathan's regime which in 2014, held a National Conference (CONFAB) in which nearly 500 selected citizens, representing different parts of the country for over four months deliberated on wide ranging issues bothering on Nigeria's existence. Incidentally, this enjoyed overwhelming support by members of the CONFAB.

PoliticsCCTV: Again, APC Blows Hot Over Failed $460m Contract by Jman24(op): 10:37am On Oct 27, 2019
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has hit hard again on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the failed Abuja Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) contract.

The statement was made by the national publicity secretary of APC, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in a press release issued on Saturday, October 26, in Abuja, adding that the fraudulent CCTV contract was awarded in August 2010. Issa-Onilu, who urged citizens to be wary of whatever promises PDP is making ahead of the ballots in both Bayelsa and Kogi, said: “a leopard cannot change its spots.” He said since profligacy and corruption is in PDP’s DNA, Nigerians must strive to elect progressive governments at all levels to achieve a better Nigeria.

The APC chieftain also noted that as the governorship elections hold in Bayelsa and Kogi states, citizens must not fall prey to the “rapacious PDP” again. He urged Nigerians to continue its support for the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s campaign to end profligacy and restore probity, efficiency, and transparency in our national life.
