UK2ME:@ uk2me, What yoou guys do is admirable. I just wish you had an extension that also procures form US. So far, orderbay.com are the only reputable ones I have seen ordering from US to Nigeria. I wish there were more options, so as to cancel out monopoly. ![]() |
@ all, Thanks, everyone, for your replies and the digression (makes an interesting read )So basically, you are saying the answer to the question is a plain FALSE. And even if the situation were to arise where a middle-aged guy has sex with his wife for as little as one or two times a year, the reason is not a general low libido due to the natural aging process. The reason may be attributed to the following: 1. Unkempt, untidy, and overweight wife 2. Extramarital affairs with younger women 3. Pregnancy and childbirth of the wife that makes her less enthusiastic towards regular sex 4. The man may be impotent but is generally covering up and saving face. Thanks! I will have our editors instruct the author to rework the manuscript accordingly. What is the sense in writing something that will not ring true with the general Nigerian reading public? ![]() |
You guys are all right! I should give her like one week of grace to make up her mind to either come with me or I go to her parents by myself. Either way, they are her parents and they deserve to know. If she still wants to continue hiding from them after that, at least my own hands would be clear of the situation. Oh, and I promised her I won't let her dad cut her head off. Hope I did the right thing there. |
@Sissy, I agree with your suggestion. The girl is refusing to go. She's too afraid of her parents. This is just crazy! And I can't just kick her out. |
Akinagirl:Thanks. Wish I weren't either! ![]() Pittbaby:The problem is getting her to understand that this is the best way to handle the situation. I'm afraid the she may start showing by the time school resumes and then the stuff can not be hidden anymore. Now is the time to act. The girl is too scared to face her parents especially her dad. She thinks the man will have her head! |
moneygurl:Okay, thanks for clarifying this Moneygurl. The Original Poster did not make that fact known. What you said changes everything the, Here in the US, 90 days is the least warning period they give to store/office leasers. So in this case 2 years (24 months) is more than ample time. ENOUGH SAID! ![]() |
You're welcome, Toyosi20. It's certainly my pleasure! |
@Ifez, What happened here? |
gozzilla:Thanks do much, Gozzila. Although I take credit for the critiques I did on this forum, I can not claim credit for the FEDDIE GIRL novel and blogs. That praise belongs to the author, Nona David. ![]() You can reserve your copy of the Feddie Girl novel, though. http://bernardbooks.com/form.html The novel is coming this July and we will contact you once the advance copies come off the press. ![]() Joan |
Hey everyone, While going through this thread, I realized something. Nairaland has many TALENTED WRITERS that are going to waste!!!! This is so sad but it doesn't have to be the case. Okay look at it this way. There are obviously many experienced and talented writers with novel-length manuscripts on their hands that are looking for trust-worthy publishers. Now, what if we form a panel of novel judges that are delegated to collect submitted manuscripts and sift through them, and come up with like 6-12 of the best every year, then let all nairalanders vote for the best 3 they would like to see in print. Then we delegate a book publisher to publish these books and make them available to members of Nairaland at publishers rate? Meanwhile, the authors of the chosen novels get their royalties per copy of the book sold!!!! What do you guys think? Seun and the other executives will have to be involved of course and Nairaland will also receive a royalty from each book sale as the referrer. That royalty can go towards maintaining the forum, etc. There are more than 350,000 registered Nairalanders and new members sign-up everyday. This will be a good way to leverage the two most important things we have on this forum: Talented writers, and readership base. Think about it!!! What do you all think ![]() I'm in the book publishing business, and I'm sure we can swing this. For e.g. see FEDDIE GIRL by Nona David coming to Bernard Books Publishing this July http://bernardbooks.com Nairaland writers union (NWU) If you are interested in joining up, please e-mail me at the address below. Thanks Joan Peck (Book Publicist) Bernard Books Publishing http://bernardbooks.com joan.peck@bernardbooks.com |
TOYOSI20:Thanks, Toyosi20. You know you can read excerpts of the actual novel and reserve an advance copy at our website http://bernardbooks.com/form.html ![]() |
I was proofing a manuscript for one of our authors and I came across a situation that sounds kinda iffy. Basically, is it plausible that the average Nigerian man between the ages of 45-60 has such low libido that enables them have sex only once or twice a year? Is this true for most cases? if not, then is there a kind of situation where this is likely to occur (as in, the man can not get it up)? Sickness? Extramarital affair? Promiscuity? etc? Or is the answer a big and plain FALSE? |
Ifez:Lol! Patience is a virtue. I just spoke with our procurement and marketing division. Advance copies of the novel should be available to the general public starting first week of July. Right now, we are catering to celebrities, blurbers, major reviewers, wholesalers, distributors. Don't worry 6 weeks will go by in a flash. Soon you will have your copy and be transported back to those glory days of boarding life. Lol! ![]() |
dominique:Novel is coming in July! Just 6 weeks to go. Keep your fingers crossed. ![]() |
sherifatou:My dear, it's not that easy for a foreign publisher to market to the Naija community. Having worked as a book publicist with a publisher here in the US, I am speaking from experience. The major problem foreign publishers face with the Nigerian market is the fraudulent and pirating measures. E.g. A Nigerian author writes a great book tailored to Nigerian readers and wants to see it published by a quality and reputable publisher. They approach companies based in US and UK. After all the struggles and hard work, they manage to land a reputable publisher and their novel gets published and the marketing and sales begin. Then before you know it, the books show up on ebay, amazon, etc and the merchants are all based in Nigeria and selling the books for pennies on the dollar! Meanwhile, the publisher has only sold a few hundred copies in the US alone. So how did the Nigerian merchants get a hold of the book to the extent of offering it wholesale on Amazon and Ebay on a merchant account? You see, what these fraudsters do is, they buy one or two copies then they make thousands of photocopies and rebind. They also scan the original covers of the book complete with the ISBN, SAN, EAN and LCCN and paste it on there! Just crazy! The fraudulent impostors make all the profit while the main author and authentic publishers who did all the work suffer. Due to this, marketing in Nigeria will prove almost fruitless. If you see same book one of high quality selling at $19.95 (N2400) and another of lower quality selling at $4 (N600), which will you purchase? See? that is exactly what we see and the risk we take by taking on Nigerian authors and authors of Nigerian works. Very sad, but it happens all the time. |
@ Ofala, You are welcome. The book publishing business requires a lot of patience. And if you're persistent and your work is great, I don't see why you shouldn't make it in the end. At the publishing company I work for, we recruited 2 of our authors from the absolute write forum. Another one came to us through query tracker. So you see, it works! |
McDoe:Elope!!! |
Thanks you all. It's just such a difficult and uncomfortable situation. You suggest to tell her parents and the girl just freaks out. Phew! This is not a good position to be in. |
Thanks dear. I'll our acquisitions dept check it out. ![]() |
@ Ccomputers, Your website is okay. If it works for you, then keep doing what you're doing. No need to apologize. Seems you just love the all caps thingy. Cool ![]() |

Has anyone actually considered this idea? This forum being filled with lots of talented authors, one would think they would be interested in a chance at getting published! |
@ Poster I posted a somewhat similar question on the business forum and got some interesting replies and useful topics. I will provide link to the thread: |
Sounds interesting. Who is the publisher? When was it published? Can you provide a brief description? Thanks! |
You bet! Nigerian female writers know where they're going and what they're doing. Two thumbs up to them! Also watch-out for Nona David's FEDDIE GIRL, coming to Bernard Books Publishing this July! Read excerpts and reserve a copy http://bernardbooks.com |
blissfullynaughty:I wonder too. Being in the book publishing business and an avid collector of Nigerian authored novels, I'm surprised I haven't heard a lot of hype about this novel. Actually I'd like someone to compare the work with that of Chimamanda's 'Half of a Yellow Sun' on one hand or Sefi Atta's 'Everything good will come' or Onyeka Nwelue's 'Abyssinian Boy'. One thing I know about Nigerian authored books: Because Nigerians are proud of their people and where they come from, if the book is really as good as they say, then word of mouth alone will sell the book. ![]() lamidebaby:When was this book published? And yes, you may be right about the name. El~Nukoya does suspiciously seem like Ayokunle. Now, what are the odds? ![]() |
