texazzpete:Carlos Ventures is running a computer hardware store. Many websites like his are hardly warm and welcoming. They mean what they say they do. Hardware sales and nothing else. To me, website looks okay. The problem I've got is the all caps and highlighting on white background. I had to squint to read through the text. |
Bad belle is bad. Any way we want to look at it. |
platinumnk:I agree. tboy1:He can send his message across by typing in normal case then using bold to highlight the very pertinent points. |
@ Carlos Ventures, Thanks for the prompt reply. I admire that you are a student doing your own business to make ends meet. I am not a student, but a book publicist with Bernard Books Publishing http://bernardbooks.com What we are looking for is a good and convenient avenue to make our recent novel (FEDDIE GIRL by Nona David) available to the Nigerian public. Since Amazon and E-bay will not accept payment from Nigeria and ship likewise, we need an intermediary company through which Nigerians at home can purchase and receive the title. Thanks! Joan |

OrderBay:Thanks for this info. I'll check out your website and your services. Joan |
ADEOMOLE:Thanks Ademola for the useful information. I'll be contacting you soon. I appreciate your help. Joan |
igbonla:Thanks for the reply Igbonla. Please I need more info. How can I contact you? Thanks. |
I mean, can you pay with your credit card from Nigeria and have books shipped to you in Nigeria? Or is there a third party agency that offers intermediary services? i.e. you order through them and they obtain the foreign book and ship to you? What about Amazon.com? Will they accept payment from Nigeria and ship to Nigeria? Please does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks! |
ABOMINATION!!! @ Original Poster Please revise the topic. Using 'should' makes it sound like you agree it SHOULD happen. You can say: "Why do some men . . .?" "Do men . . .?" "What causes a man to . . .?" |
FL Gators!:I have been asking the same question since I saw this thread. I still don't get it! |
What will you do if your friends' teenage daughter confides in you that she's pregnant and scared? She needs help but does not want her parents involved. How can one handle such a delicate situation? |
Ten to twenty years ago, many would shout "YES! Women who wear trousers will go to hell!!" But, now, at this present day and age, do you still think it's a sin for women to wear pants/ trousers/ slacks? Just wondering. . . |
Typewriter:I absolutely agree with the above. So I still ask, "WHY BOTHER?" If you are a Catholic, just go to morning mass and get married after the mass. Then take your wife out for a nice lunch/dinner. Better still, just do your court marriage (Las Vegas?) and get it iver with. No need to burn all that dough (whether NAIRA, USD, POUNDS, etc) then suffer to build a family through financial trouble. My wedding only cost $68.99 (Price for a romantic dinner for two at Red Lobsters). Now, I live a very comfy life with my hubby. LOL!!!!!!!!!!! |
Why bother? Just have a nice quiet wedding (you and wife alone) and invest the 450k (USD?) in some future plan that will benefit your new family. What use is an elaborate wedding if the couple end up suffering from financial trouble? Many couples use their weddings as a means for unnecessary show-off and 'levels' stipulation. What is important is the vows you exchange, and God does not charge you a cent for it. Be wise. If you don't have dough to burn, keep it low-key. The whole wedding will be forgotten in a few days anyway! |
It all depends on the situation. Different situation may call for unique reactions. At any rate, keep your wits by you, but let experience be your best teacher. |
This certainly reeks of 'scam'. If you're not convinced, research them. Google them and see what you come up with. |
I'm liking this topic. Makes a good read for an otherwise boring work day. Gamine:Lol!! MrCrackles:Double Lol!!!! @Original Poster From what I understand about the Nigerian culture, it's really not compulsory to have a traditional wedding or white wedding. Like some lady (Monica?) said earlier, it all boils down to CHOICE. Do whatever feels right to you. No one will come breaking down your door and bashing in your head with a machete, especially if you live abroad. I know a few couples (one partner is Nigerian and the other isn't) who are happily married without trad marriage, and family and in-laws are fine with it. Marriage is not by force. If you don't like the stipulation that comes with your chosen bride-to-be, then bail out. If both of you (you and your fiance) do not like the trad marriage thing, then elope! End of story! |
You can still reserve you advance copy of FEDDIE GIRL http://bernardbooks.com |
RELEASE DATE FOR FEDDIE GIRL COUNT DOWN CONTINUES: 5 weeks to go! |
FELA: I throway salute!!!! (From the Feddie Girl Blogs. http://joanpeck.) Salute to the master; Bow to the king! I've never met a Nigerian who doesn't know who Fela was. I say 'was' cos Fela passed on several years ago, but his legacy still lives on--in the hearts and minds of his fans. "Who is Fela?" you ask, your mind already going through the list of famous artists you're familiar with. Fela is a legend. An artist who's famous for not just his music, but the meanings behind every word he sings. To understand Fela and what goes on in his mind, you gotta go right back--back to the deep-rooted culture of his people. You give me that 'what the heck are you talking about?' look. I ignore you and shake my head in pity. Unless you've lived in Nigeria and seen things for yourself, you'll probably never get why Fela means so much to those who are lucky to have had the pleasure of his entertainment/teaching. Abruptly you ask, "What makes Fela's music so famous?" Your mind is already browsing through the 'rock and roll' legends you've been opportuned to know: The Beatles, Kiss, Rolling Stone, Steely Dan, James Gang, Jonas Brothers(?) Hmm, (mscheew!) Well, I totally can't capture the true essence of Fela Kuti and what his music means to Nigerians and many Africans at large. What I can do, is give his dedicated fans a chance to speak from their hearts and tell you exactly what it is they root about Fela's music. So, all you Nigerians out there, if you're a true fan of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, tell us why you love his music, tell us what his music means to you. I totally rest my case! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgqxFHMqlxs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIzMqCzproM&feature=related Brought to you by: Feddie Girl, the sizzling international adventure/thriller set in Nigerian Boarding School. Coming this July!!! To read excerpts of this novel and reserve an advance copy, visit Bernard Books Publishing http://bernardbooks.com |
Hey everyone, While going through this forum, I realized something. Nairaland has many TALENTED WRITERS that are going to waste!!!! This is so sad but it doesn't have to be the case. We need to form a union: Nairaland Writers Union (NWU) Okay look at it this way. There are obviously many experienced and talented writers with novel-length manuscripts on their hands that are looking for trust-worthy publishers. Now, what if we form a panel of novel judges that are delegated to collect submitted manuscripts from Nairaland Writers and sift through them, and come up with like 6-12 of the best every year, then let all nairalanders vote for the best 3 they would like to see in print. Then we delegate a book publisher to publish these books and make them available to members of Nairaland at publishers rate? Meanwhile, the authors of the chosen novels get their royalties per copy of the book sold!!!! What do you guys think? Seun and the other executives will have to be informed and involved of course and Nairaland will also receive a royalty from each book sale as the referrer. That royalty can go towards maintaining the forum, etc. There are more than 330,000 registered Nairalanders and new members sign-up everyday. This will be a good way to leverage the two most important things we have on this forum: Talented writers, and readership base. Think about it!!! What do you all think ![]() I'm in the book publishing business, and I'm sure we can swing this. For e.g. see FEDDIE GIRL by Nona David coming to Bernard Books Publishing this July http://bernardbooks.com |
Thanks Ifez, but I heard Amazon does not ship books to Nigeria. How did you buy yours? |
Hi Viquetoria, Ahaseurus and Oluti have both provided very sound advice. But in order for you to move on and be persistent with your writing, you need a few more resources that should help advance your writing career and connect you with agents/publishers. Here is the link for AutoCrit as recommended by Oluti above: http://www.autocrit.com/ You should also check out this great writing forum, to meet other authors and network: http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/ Another forum dedicated to just writing and critiquing by authors and writing profesionals: http://www.critiquecircle.com/ Finally, when you are ready to start submitting your work to agents and publishers, here are the two best links for that: http://www.querytracker.net/ http://anotherealm.com/prededitors/ I must tell you that many talent scouts frequent these forums in hopes of harvesting new and fresh writers. A few of the writers we have at Bernard Books Publishing were signed-up that way, two of them being Nona David and Mundy Mill. All the best to you dear. Joan Peck |
