Roland17: I am wary of having ESR/ Odegaard/ Jorginho on the field at the same, considering we don't know when Partey will be back. With Partey, on the pitch, I will be fine with it. In need of a goal, I'd rather ESR because he has an eye for goal and can also create scoring opportunities. I wish Odegaard will attempt more shots, especially when we are in search of a goal.
Xhaka has always struggled to run with the ball, it is one of his weaknesses and it was exploited when he played a double pivot. He has had a rough time since Partey's injury. I mean the entire team has struggled without Partey but Xhaka more than anyone. Mehnnn, Partey is really the one holding this team Jara. That Xhaka struggling to run with the ball is what is really limiting us. On many occasions where there's spaces in the midfield, if only Xhaka would run with the ball into a dangerous zone he'll draw out a defender who's marking one of our wingers thus making that winger free and a potential big chance will be created. Instead, he'll just throw the pass from that Midfield. There's a reason why we mostly create more chances and we're more deadly on the right than left. Aside from Saka being good, Odegaard is also good in carrying the ball from midfield to opponent's final 3rd. The thing with Odegaard is that, he doesn't trust his right foot. Odegaard in Jorginho position would still have passed cos that ball will fall on his right foot. I just hope he starts working on it though |

Roland17: I'd like to see ESR get some minutes, preferably from the middle when Odegaard comes off. The man has an eye for goal and we need that more than ever now. I'd prefer Esr to replace Xhaka. Odegaard loves running with the ball and try to open up spaces and unlock defences, same thing with ESR. Xhaka hardly runs with the ball nowadays and it's limiting our games recently. Plus, ESR is goal hungry I don't know if it'll be lightweight but Partey, ESR and Odegaard triumvirate when looking for goal will be the truth |

ThierryJay: Sorry for barging into this argument, but you need to match apples with apples. While you are right that Arsenal led City by 8 points after 18 matchdays, Jodera is also right with his assertion.
The fact is that Arsenal did not bottle an 8 point lead, they bottled a 5 point lead instead.
This is simply because City had played one more match at the point of overtaking Arsenal.
To put this in better context, imagine that after matchday 18, Arsenal for whatsoever reason did not play the next 3 games at all while City played and won all three(9 points). It would be wrong to say Arsenal bottled an 8 point lead in that instance because City being top is on account of playing more games. Thank you for this big time. You just put it succinctly |

MorataFC: I wonder how many people just dey deny Potter now, A quick reminder: 1). Someone said we should give Potter time and that the poor form he is experiencing now is due to failure of having Pre-season with us (CFC), so the advice was that we should allow him to have pre-season with us before we can judge him. 2). Another one said Potter is still using Tuchel players, so we can't judge him with Tuchel players, so the advice was that he needs to get his players that will understand his style of play. ObaIgwe1: I told you the last time that I am yet to be convinced they are following a clear template, is not just overbiding anything Arsenal or ManU price. The 1st thing is to define the style of play you want and then find the right players that can fit into that style. They have good players no doubt, whether they fit well with their style of play is another. That is the difference between Arteta process and this Chelsea process.
Looks more like Boehly instead of Potter was the engine behind the purchases.... But still to early to conclude, so 🤞 Lol... I thought with their purchases, their game play and results would improve even if their result are mixed but I thought wrong. There's no even hope In their play sef and they only try to chase game when they're losing and time is almost up |

I'm not even angry with the boys, I'm angry with the Var officials. If they've done their part correctly, we would have been 4 points ahead instead of two. It's now that dropped points is even paining me more |

ObaIgwe1: You either look at the table at the end of a Matchday or Gameweek.
Like Jodera, I also prefer to check our standing at the end of a Gameweek. It makes no sense celebrating a lead after a particular gametime like you want us to see earlier today, when your opponents are yet to play in the same matchday or gameweek. Thank you very much. Iamoyin.damola, I hope you can see my point I wonder how we'll be jubilating 3 points over Man city today when they were yet to play their game later in the day or week. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 6:18pm On Feb 18, 2023 |
Roland17: My argument and position is not predictive or futuristic, it is purely based on facts.
Games are calculated by "matchdays" in European football, at least I know and not "matchweekends", that is the first and perhaps the most important thing to note in this debate. No one ever debates the EPL, including TV analysts using weekend 1 or weekend 2, they use Matchday 1, 2 and so on.
The irrefutable fact is that after matchday 21 and having played the same number of games, Arsenal led City by 8 points. Any point accrued in future games is another matchday, except the game is an outstanding game which wasn't the case. But it was an outstanding game na. (ie man city Vs Tottenham) I don't know about you but games are analysed purely by the present points accrued or garnered. It doesnt what Matchdays or matchweeks. If EPL analyst wants to analyse (which is mostly Fridays or Saturdays), they will do that with the present points on table at that time(not minding whether there's an outstanding or not). It's simple, the reason we were level on point with Man city was because we had an advantage of 5 points. |

ObaIgwe1: lol.... from the look of things if Xhaka go back to his old sef then Partey and Jorginho will make more sense than Partey and Xhaka.
Hmmmm... so Forrest achieved what we couldn't 🤦♂️
Football is unpredictable, hope we can forgive our boys for the match against Everton, else we can accuse City of bottling their advantage too. I'm even more angry for the dropped points against Brentford than against Everton. With had 2 genuine points dropped not because of our own doing but because of Refs incompetence. That hits hard |
