Belgium-born Nigerian set for Super Eagles call-up
SUPER EAGLES By: Ikponmwosa Umweni | 14/02/2

Belgium-born Nigerian Cyriel Dessers could get Super Eagles call-up in March’s double-header against Sierra Leone in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The 68-year-old German tactician who is preparing for his first game of the new year is expected to prosecute the game with his most trusted players as they hope to book their place in the tournament earlier.

According to brila.net report that Heracles striker Cyriel Dessers is likely been among the new players, Rohr set to hand their median call up to Super Eagles after impress performance after involving in 23 goals for his Eredivisie club this season, including 17 goals and 6 assists this season.

And he has shown his desire to represent the three-time African Champions ahead of Belgium, the country of his mother and birth.
Rohr is also said to be impressed with the form of many Nigerian players and he’s reportedly working on the list which could be out in the first week of March.

Lol. Onuachu scores against Egypt. That alone and his decent club performances is what is keeping him in Rohr’s good books.

The list is believable. It’s like you have not been following this team. Lol

Is this team list for real? Why too many strikers and not enough midfieldershuh Not that I have any problems with the individual players invited but this just isn't a balanced team. Is he going to play with only strikershuhhuh

I expect Kalu to make the team and not Dessers in the real list.
Other than that, it looks like a typical Rohr list

Stop crying. It took a while before KC got dropped. This is Rohr’s era. If you have once proved to be a quality player under Rohr in the past, it will take continuous poor performance or low number of game time at club level before yiu will get axed from the team. Again, it would be relatively easier for such player to get back on Rohr’s good books.

Onuachu will continue to get a call up. Musa don’t have to do much at club level to get continuous invitation from Rohr. Same goes to Shehu, who is playing at club level. Ezenwa as well. In other words, you can say these are his boys because he believes in them based on their past records in his era.

andrewbaba44:
One of your best players in the afcon is terrible

Make una dey live on past glory, no wonder many of una want local coach to take over super eagles so that e go dey call mediocre players

Kalu is your best winger, then he should get back to his old form and start playing for his club, i dont think i will even be against you

Even Nwakaeme wey dey do well una no go see am or even ejuke , na past glory una like , when nacho drop form he was dropped so kalu should be dropped and he should work hard to be in the team, he is no messi or cr7 abeg

We have a very young team. I know we can definitely pull through. wink

Icon4s:
Hahaha, some say I am talking like Rohr already. Mathematically, that is what I am saying, we need only 4pts from the tie to secure qualification, even with two games to spare.
But definitely, definitely I would want us to claim all 6pts. If nothing else for the sake of our FIFA ranking.

HOW MIKEL ARTETA WENT FROM COACHING WALES U16 TO ARSENAL MANAGER

By Gareth Rogers

Mikel Arteta has been confirmed as Arsenal manager and is the latest FAW UEFA Pro Licence coach to take a Premier League top job.

The Spaniard, who was a terrace hero at Arsenal and Everton, joins fellow FAW educated coach, Chris Wilder, of Sheffield United, at English football’s top table.

When the stylish midfielder first turned-up at Dragon Park, to start the 2015 FAW UEFA A Licence course, he was still an important Arsenal player.

But, as part of his A Licence learning, the Basque born star came to Dragon Park in November 2015, to coach the Wales U16 squad which went on to win the Victory Shield, inspired by current senior internationala Ethan Ampadu and Rabbi Matondo.

Once he’d completed his UEFA A Licence course, Arteta joined former Arsenal teammates Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg in the Pro Licence cohort of 2017.

Also on that course was Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool assistant Pep Ljinders, Newport County manager Mike Flynn and Connah’s Quay Nomads boss Andy Morrison.

Throughout this time, Arteta continued to cut his coaching teeth at Arsenal Academy, where his work helped him complete the requirements of the FAW UEFA Pro Licence.

Once he retired from playing, the former Spain U21 international joined-up with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

In January 2017, the Man City assistant manager welcomed his fellow FAW Pro Licence students to the Etihad Stadium to watch the 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur and observe training sessions and presentations led by Guardiola and his staff.

Arteta also delivered practical and theory sessions at the FAW National Coaches Conference in 2016 and 2017.

Let’s not rekindle this. We have already made our points. The excuse of supporting our own is baseless.
Clementoke:
Why NFF made Yobo Eagles’ assistant coach – Pinnick

President, Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has given reasons for Joseph Yobo’s appointment as Super Eagles assistant coach.

Mixed reactions have trailed the decision of the NFF to pick Yobo, a former captain of the national team, as Gernot Rohr’s assistant.

Even some of Yobo’s fellow ex-internationals questioned the 2013 AFCON winner’s experience and qualification for the Eagles job.

But Pinnick, in an exclusive interview with Sunday PUNCH, said Yobo’s appointment was a unanimous decision of the NFF’s Executive Committee.

“The NFF is very excited with his appointment and will take it as a responsibility to ensure that he gets the requisite (coaching) qualifications at the highest level,” Pinnick stated.

“That’s how Stephen Keshi started. Who says Yobo can’t be the next Nigerian to win the the AFCON as player and coach?

“FIFA stipulates that the head coach and first assistant coach must have coaching licences. Yobo is not the first assistant coach.

“The idea is that we want to nurture and condition him to provide leadership and mentorship for the young team, using the Nigerian factor, which Gernot (Right) cannot provide.

“He’s played for some of Europe’s big clubs, won the AFCON and he is one of our most-capped players ever. So, we should back him to succeed.”

Pinnick added that Yobo’s former teammate at Everton, Mikel Arteta, began coaching immediately on retirement in 2016, despite not having the experience, and rose through the ranks to become Arsenal’s manager.

“When Yobo was at Everton, Arteta was on the bench. But he began his coaching career as an assistant at Manchester City when he retired. Today, he is the Arsenal manager and one of the top coaches in England. So, we should learn to support our own.
“Are we going to keep relying on foreigners all the time?” He said.

safarigirl:
nah, he isn't.

For now sha, Yobo has no immediate engagements, and until he messes up, I hold my peace.

Except a coaching license is a necessity, as in, without it, he will not be allowed to coach, I reserve my comment....besides, for all we know, man is working on it right now.

How are you sure he will? The burden of explanation rest on those who are backing Yobo, because he has nothing to show for it. It can go either way but I have more reason to believe he will not improve the team coaching wise than otherwise

How are u so sure ?

So Salisu is back in the team? Insult to injury
safarigirl:
Is it not Salisu that handles the CHAN team?

The Olympic Eagles? Are they not disbanded until further notice? Or did Imama qualify the team for Olympics?

There is no immediate need for Yobo's expertise in any position aside the 'assistant' role. And if it arises, we will see how it goes.

Even coaching certificate people dey do rubbish, so, until Yobo does his own, I honestly cannot be bothered about a certificate.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 3:25am On Feb 14, 2020
I hope the experience he gets from Rohr he will use it well when he handles our Olympic Eagles and CHAN team. Abi would he be assisting then?
safarigirl:
he is ASSISTING, not coaching.

An assistant, can be an understudy. He will not be in charge, at any point.

He can enroll for the license, while on the job, just like people enroll for Masters and even First Degrees, while in employment. Maybe he will be promoted to Head Coach, after getting his certificate.

This life is not that complicated
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 3:23am On Feb 14, 2020
no be attack, na just statement some of you are not comfortable with. This whole matter can be put succinctly -- Yobo is not qualified for the job

Now that we have stated the fact, let's move on.

safarigirl:
I am not defending Yobo

I am asking the people attacking Yobo to give it a rest.

Buhari has proven how useless he is, so, I can castigate him. Yobo is yet to do anything to deserve castigation.

I was defending Buhari before he entered office, but after his woeful performance, I am castigating him. Same way, I am giving Yobo the benefit of doubt now, pending when he actually messes up

Like I have been saying, unless someone can provide evidence of Yobo messing up in a similar position, I have no issues with his appointment. Posterity will judge
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 3:20am On Feb 14, 2020
gbam @ bolded. The missing link has always been a quality assistant. This move for Yobo will not improve the team coaching wise. Mikel was the big bros the young team ran to, but that didn't guarantee success at the WC. Now we clamoring for another big bros in Yobo considering some of your arguments here. The question is what have we added to our tactical bench to move our football forward?

tbaba1234:
You are emphasizing my point

At the highest level of leadership, you might need extra training. Just like you need extra training to perform at the highest level of coaching. Yobo can coach young amateur boys but again, he is under qualified for the role of a senior team coach.

Mechanics undergo training to be mechanics, they do not just open cars and start fixing. They spend months learning to do the job.
Even though involved in making traditional medicines are involved in some level of training before they start mixing concoctions.

Yobo has no coaching training whatsoever not CAF or UEFA.

Look at the difference in Manu Garba's team in 2013 when Amuneke was his assistant and in 2019. That is what a quality assistant can add to a team.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 3:13am On Feb 14, 2020
performance is above fine jersey. Let Nigeria reach quarter final for WC with a bad jersey and you think fans will not start buying more? We have population to our advantage we could achieve even more by performing better.

safarigirl:
Tanzania don't have a footballing history

I never said performance is irrelevant, I said they should go together. Nothing is above any

After all, if you qualify for World Cup finish and your jersey no fine, who go buy am?
