Rohr:
''The set-pieces are scored everywhere, not only against us. I watch the matches of other teams, there are goals from set-pieces, it's not only in our matches.
''In the friendly in Krasnodar, they scored from a set-piece, it was a free-kick, it was a gift because the goalkeeper, who believed it was offside, touched the ball with his hand outside the box.
''But we scored also from a nice free-kick from Iheanacho. It's not only African countries who have problems with set-pieces, Sweden conceded a goal against Germany last minute.
''We have to work on it, we do it in training. I saw that in the second game against the good players of Iceland especially in this situation, we were much better than in the first one, we are improving.
''I hope there will not be a penalty against us because my young players sometimes can make a mistake. I hope we will be okay defensively and better offensively,'' |

Too many viruses today. I’m just hoping Nigeria wins so all this lovers of Barca over country can just accept their fate and stop comparing that dude to Ronaldo. This insanity is all about the Ronaldo rivalry I know. Nigeria will win today if the players refuse to respect big names. Rohr be warned, we will win only on that condition.
Modified SE must ensure they are not behind at half time. |

Sir let’s not argue about the terminology. What I meant was the number of goals the team has scored in the group stage. Goals for or whatever Icon4s: There is nothing like goals aggregate in this type of permutation.
Goals aggregates are used when teams play on home and away knock-out basis. |

If Nigeria draws Argentina 1-1, and Iceland beats Croatia 2-0, both Nigeria and Iceland would be tied in gd ( 0 ) and goals aggregate(3). Nigeria qualifies by Head to Head. somehow: Not even a score draw needed except if Iceland win by 3 nil |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 9:01pm On Jun 25, 2018 |
You are just somehow. Do you want to rewrite the rules. The team that has scored the most goals in the group qualifies. However, if they are still tied in goals aggregate, h2h is considered. somehow: If we are both on +0 goals and i beat you on H2H, who wins? |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:56pm On Jun 25, 2018 |
Of course I had already said that in my original post. A score draw will be enough for Nigeria in this scenario — not a 0-0 draw. somehow: If Iceland win by 2 goals, they will have +0 and 4 points. if we draw by another goal margin, we will also have +0.
Then comes H2H which means we will be ahead because we beat them.
Do you understand now? |

Sir I must confess, you are the most unbiased person on this thread. Very balanced submission. I prostrate o. Kog45: Humility baba pls calm down on Ighalo issue.
Truly he hasn't live up to expectations but let's take it cool on this players.
We are playing Argentina tomorrow let's hope for the best and rally round the team irrespective of players picked by Rohr.
Some don't expect anything good from Musa in this WC but see Musa now,a saviour.
I will not deceive you we don't have any talisman when it comes to goalscoring and it will take a well convincing performance from Simy to start ahead of Iheanacho and Ighalo.
Simy coming into the team was to provide cover for Ighalo and Iheanacho and he has not done anything extra ordinary to bench this guys even in training.
Remember I told you Simy is not a high profile striker but you said NO which i agreed, different opinions must be respected.
I want you to see Simy as our hidden weapon that Rohr can unleashed anytime to cause havoc, pls let's wait for that moment.
Ighalo,Iheanacho and Simy are in the team to compliment not as rivals and this was the reason you saw Ighalo on the bench after Croatia and Iheanacho in XI against Iceland.
Pls don't be surprised to see Ighalo or Simy starting against Argentina.
It's team work and players understand this better than we fans.
Ighalo scored last against Cameroon in Uyo but unable to score against
1.Cameroon in Yaoundé 2.Zambia 3.Poland 4.Serbia 5.England 6.Czech 7.Croatia 8.Iceland
Iheanacho scored last against Argentina but unable to score against
1.Poland 2.Congo 3.England 4.Czech 5.Croatia 6.Iceland
Simy not yet there but i see him as our hidden weapon
Sir with this I if i have my way i will pair Musa and Iwobi upfront but no coach will do that with two strikers available who have done it before and normal for goal drought in football.
I think we are still good with Musa/Iheanacho or Ighalo.
My guy tomorrow is knocking and by the grace of God we are beating Argentina. |

Now somebody is becoming super constructive in their pre-analysis. darkelf: From Colin Udoh on ESPN
Beyond that, defending those set-pieces cannot be over stressed. Of the six goals Argentina have scored against Nigeria in World Cup encounters, five have been from set-pieces.
I feel the above is very important and cannot be over-emphasized. Set-pieces could make or break us. Second only to conceding penalties or free-kicks in dangerous areas.

Goals tally gets priority over H2H. A goalless draw for Nigeria will not be enough if Iceland beats Croatia 2-0. Iceland will have a total of 3 goals, Nigeria will have 2 goals. somehow: No matter the scoreline between Nigeria and Argentina. As long as it ends in . a draw, we are through but only if Iceland win without scoring more than 2 goals difference.
A 2:0 iceland win pushes us through because we would both be on same goals and points but since we have a better H2H to them? We scale through. |

Argentina will be looking for a big win against Nigeria to be safe, considering an Iceland victory over Croatia
Nigeria only needs at least a 1-1 draw versus ARG hoping Iceland don’t do better than a 2-0 win over Croatia.
Iceland needs at least a 2-0 win hoping Nigeria don’t get any result better than a goalless draw against Argentina.
A goalless draw against Argentina will suffice for Nigeria, provided Iceland fail to record a score better than 1-nil against Croatia.
Nigeria’s qualification will NOT be affected by the outcome of the other tie as long as we beat Argentina
Please add more scenarios to this or modify

Ex-Spain Coach Clemente: Now Mikel Wants Sportsmanship From Croatia; Nigeria Rested Players In ’9810 hours ago By James Agberebi: Former Spain national team coach Javier Clemente has laughed off calls by Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi asking Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic to play his regulars against Iceland on their final Group D game of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday. Following Croatia’s qualification into the round of 16 with a game to spare, there are reports that Dalic could rest some of his key players like Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic. And reacting to the report, Obi called on Dalic to show sportsmanship and field his best players against Iceland, believing the outcome of the game could have an effect in the game between Nigeria and Argentina which will also be played on Tuesday. Iceland could qualify ahead of Nigeria and Argentina if the debutants beat Croatia by a wide margin and the Super Eagles and Argentina draw. But Clemente who was Spain head coach at the 1998 World Cup in France when they crashed in the group stage, was having none of Mikel’s call for sportsmanship. https://wwwcompletesportsnigeriacom--xzvtxvtv-stackpathdns-com.cdn.ampproject.org/i/s/wwwcompletesportsnigeriacom-xzvtxvtv.stackpathdns.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_20180623_094911_600x314.jpgAt the 1998 World Cup, Spain who lost 3-2 to the Super Eagles in their opening group game, needed the Eagles to avoid defeat against Paraguay while Clemente’s team had to beat Bulgaria to progress into the round of 16. Having already qualified for the round of 16 following wins against Spain and Bulgaria, Super Eagles key players like Austin Okocha, Victor Ikpeba, Okechukwu Uche, Celestine Babayaro and Mutiu Adepoju were all rested against Paraguay. Paraguay went on to beat the Eagles 3-1 and progressed while despite thrashing Bulgaria 6-1, Clemente’s Spain crashed out. Recalling the events that unfolded at the 1998 World Cup, Clemente tweeted on Sunday: “Obi Mikel of Nigeria asks Croatia for sportsmanship and wants them to plays with the regulars. “Nigeria in ’98 played with their substitutes against Paraguay and lost, Spain crashed out. That day it seemed sportsmanship was not important.” — CompleteSportsNigeria |

Of course it’s good to have a positive mindset. I’m positive and hopeful all the same, although I may sound negative, wishing the team bad. I understand u very well. However what will happen will happen. Modified I promise I won’t say a word about it when the time comes, and we will still move on together as a family Icon4s: See, let me tell you, I know that Argentina are favorite to win that game. But I try not to dwell on that. I look at the positives.
This is not my first WC so I am not even scared of a group exit. I just want to have a positive mindset.
The way you are sounding it is as if you actually wish Argentina should win so you can come here and say "I told you". You are free to condition your mind for a defeat. But some of us here have conditioned our mind that we will make it to the next round. But if we do not make it, so? Then you can come around with your "I told you, I told you" and receive your medal for it. |

Let’s be balanced. He may have been called because of our problems at LB. But that doesn’t stop him from putting in a fight in other roles. Personally, I would say timing did not favor him. somehow: You have no evidence yet you think he was called to play RB? how come he never played RB nor RWB once for us throughout his callup?
Most people here knows he was called up cos of the LB roll he played in Hull, NOTHING ELSE. |

I’m sure u want us to cross it so badly as much as I do. somehow: Senegal screwed themselves over by drawing with Japan. they had that game to win but their GK and the defenders screwed everything up. So that you will come here and say I told you? That what? E pass ''that Argentina will beat Nigeria''?
Even if they beat us will FIFA award you any trophy? I mean what do you stand to gain?
