Siasia: Ambrose, Ajayi, Ejide Should’ve Been In World Cup Squad; Eagles Can’t Win Trophy

May 15, 2018 10:42 pm

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has expressed surprise at the exclusion of the duo of Ambrose Efe of Hibernian and Al Ahly’s Junior Ajayi as well as goalkeeper Austin Ejide from the 30-man provisional list for the Russia 2018 World Cup, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Siasia told the media in Abuja on Tuesday that the coach Gernot Rohr has made his selection, and his choice of players for the World Cup should be respected because he is responsible for whatever result the team get in Russia.

“I think Efe’s experience and form for his Scottish side Hibernian is good enough to get him into the list, and he would be of immense help to the Super Eagles defence at the World Cup while Junior Ajayi would have added fire power to the Eagles attack, and should have been given the chance to prove himself,” Siasia, who starred for Nigeria at the World Cup in 1994, said.

“All the same, the coach knows what he is doing and has picked his team, we just have to support him for Nigeria to do well in Russia. We cannot win the World Cup but if we emerge from the group stage, our team can spring some surprises.”

Asked if the exclusion of Vincent Enyeama would be felt in the Eagles, Siasia’s answer was an emphatic no, stressing that the former captain of the Super Eagles was not keen to be part of the team and he has not been playing for his club Lille.

He said Ezenwa was number one during the qualifiers and should retain that role for World Cup. Siasia however wished that the coach had extended invitation to Austin Ejide for his experience and physicality.

I will keep supporting Kayode. I'd like to see what he can do against Atletico

TheSuperNerd:
So all this talk now... What is the conclusion of the whole matter? because several segments of the discussion have been navigated well and dissected one by one by what I presented across various posts since this kayode discussion began.

The point is this... Kayode's absence does not mean it is over for him. And his absence is also justified because all others picked are obviously better and ahead of him. Do you know that Mustafi lost out in being named yo Germany's 27 man provisional? Even Karius no dey dia yet he reached UCL final with Liverpool.

So let Kayode just keep building on his resurgence and I am sure by next season, he will be doing more even in UCL football and not just in Ukraine.

He is a member of this generation but he is on the fringes of the team. We have a talented and competitive squad... And Kayode is definitely behind some fine talents. Let us just support the team. The future is bright...

Orlando City's Amro Tarek made the list.. if he were Nigerian he would never have smelled national team football. Think Fenando Adi.
Very corrupt Pinnick and Rohr.

lol

my sister it's 35 maximum. I would probably want to focus on a few players I'm sure of, a month before the world cup knowing I can always call up any player for replacement in case of casualties.

safarigirl:
maybe the coach was influenced by the federation to submit just 23 names.

FIFA mentioned 35 for a reason. Why are these nations not exhausting the number?

That na few years back na.
Amuzie's current stats is troubling. Wakili is ahead -- not far ahead o -- of all of them if we must look at current stats alone..

What about that your left back in Latvia?

tbaba1234:
Yes and ability.

Madu/Mustapha/wakil are not super eagles quality yet. I posted a match of wakili a few years back on one of these threads.

Urhobo wado!!

This your least eh.. very UK leaning.
Ademola Lookman can definitely battle some players in the current SE set up e.g Moses Simon. But he still has years ahead of him. In fact he should be in our Team B right now, and should be invited for the Atletico friendly, since he doesn't need to switch his allegiance officially, to play in that match.

Dominic Iorfa is another player that is good enough for our Team B. But he still has some battle in his hands, notably Moses Odubajo and Musa Muhammed (tested and proven even at the senior level). And also the ever versatile Kingsley Ehibuize (if we decide to make a move for the former Dutch junior national).

Sone Aluko? You and I know his season stats is something to worry about. Would you pick Aluko over Iwobi at AM?

Ovie Ejaria will make my Super Eagles team B.

The rest names I ignored are not even good enough for our second team.

Tammy Abraham? please

modified
I intentionally ignored the older players. I already had my say on Ambrose.

komekn:
I had to look up the meaning of alter ego again because I couldn't believe the context in which you use it.

You used the word tribalist as a negative descriptive term.

I really do not understand tribalism. I was born in the UK, came to Nigeria to complete hight school returned to the UK to complete university.

So I speak Igbo first, then my Urhobo / Isoko and if course Warri pidgin and then a smattering of Yoruba.

I would describe myself as totally detribalised.

Recommended players;
Ademola Lookman
Fred Onyedinma ( off the boil now)
Seyi Ojo
Dominic Iorfa
Obagoal first on my list unfortunately Injured.
Efe Ambrose
Sone Aluko
Uche Ikpeazu
Tega Onomah
Tega Abrahams
Ovie Ejaria

Anybody going to Kaliningrad to watch the game I'm intending to go Lithuania seem to be entry cheap flights from Manchester. Maybe then they can testify that I'm not forgiveness LOL

Or if you like I'll be in London to watch Nigeria play England. I'll be with quite a few former Nigerian internationals.

Looking to the future as regards our Left Back situation. These are 4 dedicated left backs.
First a comparison of Mustapha Abdullahi and Aspire product, Alma Wakili, both plying their trade in the Bulgarian Prva Liga
And another comparison between Dream Team VI Stanley Amuzie (Swiss Super League), and Kingsley Madu (Jupiler Pro League)

I want to see two monikers fight for once grin especially over the bolded
komekn:
The list reflects the players he has been ALLOWED to work with.

The biggest word for me in football is opportunity not ability. What you do with your opportunity will reflect your ability.

But when opportunity is denied nobody will know your ability.

Finally from all the players given opportunity this is about the best we can get. I think it is proper and good for local league motivation to give players like Eze and Lokosa opportunity.

optimist25:
Honestly the list was very biased.... What are names like uchebo(flavour)....Gabriel Reuben.... Nwofor uche...doing on this list.

.only babatunde Micheal brought some spark to the team as a new player.....
Kudos should be given to gernot rohr for not allowing the NFF to dictate for him!

lol.. there are two different lists.. they're getting it mixed up

soetanoreoluwa:
Who release the list? Rohr or NFf
Last time I check the list was released via twitter handle of @NGsupereagles not Rohr handle
OGN will soon close shop if care is not taken.

They should release their own list nah
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:58pm On May 15, 2018
u no read OGN tweet? They are claiming Rohr defied NFF and named 30 players instead of 35 players.
I'm thinking they got stories from inside sources as regards some players invited to prosecute the Atletico match. Then they assumed from there that those fringe professionals invited will also be in Rohr's 30 man list. Now they are trying to put a twist to the story. The truth is Rohr has always said he would release a list of 30 players (not the maximum 35). These reporters are a joke

tbaba1234:
The Atletico friendly will feature local lads and fringe professionals so it is possible.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:04am On May 15, 2018
OwnGoalNigeria had reported that Umar, Kayode, Ideye, and Musa Muhammad all made Rohr's 35-man provisional list. They are now trying to make a case for their earlier story after the names they mentioned were not included in Rorh's 30-man list. OGN is now claiming that Rohr defied NFF's request for 35 players, naming 30 players instead.

My guess is the NFF had sent out invitations to players that would prosecute the Atletico friendly match (which I believe is not part of Rohr's World Cup plans). OGN must have got it all mixed up.

I agree @ bolded. Especially after he made that "headless chicken" remark.

forgiveness:
I have followed Simy from his days in the second division of the Portuguese league. He was banging in goals there before he went to the first division of the same league. That period was during our preparation to the Olympics and it was suggested he made the list them but unfortunately, he was overloooked.

Moreover, I followed his progress in his first season in the Seria A last season but he didn't really get enough time and even this season. But if I have to rate his over all ability, forget, he is not better than Kayode.

However, I don't think he is good in the air neither the fast type of player you suppose but hopefully he brings something to the table..

Kayode is far better than Lokosa. I don't think the coach really wanted Kayode from the on set. It's an established fact.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 5:58am On May 15, 2018

you can fully depend on Balogun but don't give him that captain band.

Kog45:
Sir if you look at our CBs very well, a fit Balogun is very important.

Check out our match against Serbia, Ekong still has a long way to go in organising the defence, him and Awaziem lacks this cos they had the same issues against South Africa.

Balogun is numero uno in our defence cos his presence dictate our pace and Ekong always come alive, check Ekong performance in his absence.

Honestly good to have Balogun,Ekong,Omeruo and Awaziem in our team.

Sim was chosen because of his pace.. Rohr needs somebody who will not just be rushing anyhow to the goal post like Kayode.

Chrismario:
I don't understand all these stuff like simy was chosen because he's different striker, he is different from ighalo and co. He was only on that league because he's currently in form, he is on fire dazzul!

lol.. I think say na today he marry sef #Omeruo.

who be dj eh safari?
safarigirl:
So, the list is finally out

Congrats to the two new additions, however, only Simy might stand a chance of breaking into the squad, if any will

When last did Echiejile play under Rohr? That should give us an idea of where he stands. I would suggest he find whoever Omeruo paid to make him trend on Twitter, he will probably need that for the 23-man list

I think the seven players to be dropped will be Akpeyi/Aiyenugba, Eze, Lokosa, Echiejile, Agu, dj
