Super Eagles Camp Update:
Akpeyi Steals The Show In Eagles First Training Session With Point Blank Saves, Stops Penalty October 3, 2017013
Daniel Akpeyi was the main attraction during the Super Eagles training session watched by Owngoalnigeria.com Maxwell Pius at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
The Eagles had a light session before splitting into two groups of 8 players each for a practice game, which Akpeyi excelled with save after save to frustrate the forwards he was up against.
Akpeyi was difficult to beat throughout the session, and his form is a confirmation of how well he has been performing for his Premier South Africa League side Chippa United.
The highlight of his performance was stopping a penalty from Leicester City Star Ahmed Musa, and the manner which he stopped shots during their shooting drills.
Although Ikechukwu Ezenwa didn’t do badly, Akpeyi was by far the most impressive, however he was up against some of the top strikers of the team so that means he was constantly under pressure as they mounted attacks after attack.
A decision on who will start between the duo is expected to be made in the coming days, but for now Akpeyi is in the lead after his performance this evening.

I don't think we will have issues finding a back up to Ighalo. We will take a look at Nwakaeme. And then, we have some exciting youth players lining up to compete. Famocious: I think Jude Ighalo still remains our undisputed no 9 for now. I hope coach Rohr will give Nwakaeme some minutes of action in the second half against the Chipolopolos on Saturday. We need to see how much competition he can give Ighalo. |

Super Eagles Camp Update: Rohr's Selection Headache: Akpeyi Saves Penalty, Ajiboye Shot-Stopper, Ezenwa Past GloryPublished: October 03, 2017 https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/59008Ezenwa1.jpgPhoto Credit : BackpageMedia/FoxSportsAfrica Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr will not surprise many people when he names his starting line-up on Saturday, with Leon Balogun, Troost-Ekong, Wilfred Ndidi, Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses among the untouchable players. However, allnigeriasoccer.com understands the German tactician is faced with a major selection dilemma over which goalkeeper will be in between the pipes against the Zambians, if the workout on Tuesday evening is anything to go by. Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye gave a good account of himself during today's practice game and is aiming to usurp either Daniel Akpeyi or Ikechukwu Ezenwa, but Rohr has not made up his mind. Ajiboye saw his ratings go up after showing his ability to deal with shots from point-blank range, and his reflexes were excellent. Daniel Akpeyi gave away a penalty during the practice game but he redeemed himself when he stopped the spot kick taken by Leicester City's Ahmed Musa. Though the goalkeeper trainer concentrated mainly on Akpeyi and Ezenwa during most of the goalkeeping drills, Ajiboye stood out the most at the training game. Nigeria have used three goalkeepers (Ikeme, Akpeyi and Ezenwa) in four matches during the World Cup qualifiers. Ifeanyi Emmanuel --AllNigeriaSoccer |

SuperEagles Camp Update: Super Eagles Practice Game: Line-Ups, Ighalo Nets Hat-Trick, Ekong With Ferocious ShotsPublished: October 03, 2017 https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/51578Ighalo.pngSuper Eagles Practice Game: Line-Ups, Ighalo Nets Hat-Trick, Ekong With Ferocious Shots The training pitch of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium was used for the two practice games involving the Super Eagles players on Tuesday evening, with about a quarter of the full length of the pitch utilized. Training cones were used to narrow the width of the space used for the practice game. Ikechukwu Ezenwa trained alone with the goalkeeper trainer, Daniel Akpeyi and Dele Ajiboye joined in with the rest of the squad and Wilfred Ndidi assisted the goalkeeper trainer to test the FC Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper. Team A wore blue bibs on green jerseys and it contained Tony Nwakaeme, Leon Balogun, Troost-Ekong, Ahmed Musa, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Abdullahi Shehu, Elderson Echiejile, Eddy Onazi and Daniel Akpeyi. Team B players, who wore green jerseys, comprised of Obi Mikel, John Ogu,Uche Agbo, Mikel Agu, Oghenekaro Etebo, Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Afeez Aremu and Dele Ajiboye. Ezenwa later took over goalkeeping duties from Akpeyi and the Chippa United star went to train on his own. The highlights of the practice game were Ighalo scoring thrice for Team B and Troost-Ekong with three ferocious shots in the space of five minutes which were well saved by goalkeeper Ajiboye. Well informed analysis. good job sir!!! Icon4s: The thing is each time Zambia manages to produce a descent youth team over time it culminates into a descent senior national team.
In 1988, Zambia produced an Olympic team that got to the quarter finals of the Seoul Olympics. Those players were progressed to the senior team and they finished 3rd at the 1990 AFCON. That Zambian team also got to the semis at the 1992 AFCON. However in 1993, tragedy struck during qualifiers for the 1994 AFCON and most of that golden generation of Zambian players perished in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Gabon. They managed to raise a team that faced Nigeria at the 1994 AFCON final. But they never really progressed from their. That era ended.
In 2007, Zambia produced a team that reached the 2nd round of the U20 WC. They lost to a Nigerian side that had Brown Ideye, Ezekiel Bala, Elderson Echiejile, Efe Ambrose, Adefemi Olubayo, Chukwuma Akabueze, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, , and co. They progressed that their U20 team. They lost to Nigeria via penalties in the quarter finals of the 2010 AFCON and then won the AFCON in 2012 by beating CIV via penalties.
In 2017 they have raised a team that reached the quarter final of the U20 WC and again they have progressed a good number. But if you look at the previous trends it took them at least 2years before they started making any statements on the continents. It simply means that it would be too early to expect those boys to achieve same fits as their predecessors. Maybe from 2019 or 2021 AFCON. You may say football is no mathematics but I will tell you that : 1, you cannot cheat nature. You also saw how our young Super Eagles fell to SA. 2, In football, some how, history has a way of repeating itself. Just like their predecessors, it cannot happen for them from this year 2017. They should look forwards from 2019.
So for them to hope they can beat Nigeria with those boys on Saturday, I shake my head. |

Well noted! in fact we've brought it up here before. Let's talk more about that when we see his player selection for Algeria. Then we will know to what extent he sees the team as complete. junnyjake: One thing that separates TEAMS from teams is having a quality bench - One as good as the ones already on the pitch.
I would use recent examples to buttress my point.
Our game against France in the 2014 world cup - Many would say we lost due to Onazi's injury. That's partly true, we weren't really threatening offensively.
Then there came Greizmann from the bench and their attack was energized and before you knew it, we were 2 goals down. Then I had to ask myself, who was the difference maker we had on the bench that would come on to unsettle the French defence. If you watched that game your answer would definitely agree with me that we had no one.
We've had Osaze coming off the bench to give us that boost, too bad he started the game, same with Victor Moses.
Germany Vs Algeria in the same competition - Germany were unable to break the deadlock within the 90 mins period, and had to go for extra time and don't forget Schurle came off the bench to inspire Germany to victory.
Same thing played out in the finals, sane Schurle combined with Gotze to score the goal that made them the world champions. They both came off the bench.
I'm happy we're blessed with depth in our present team and the coach can always deploy one or two people to cause damages to the opposition.
Is Rorh really that coach that's courageous enough to pull out a rabbit from the hat when things seems not to be going our way? I'm not convinced yet. That's the hard truth.
I respect Rorh and how much he's achieved so far but the truth has to be told. |

TAKE NOTE of the earlier bolded:
The coach of Wolfsburg, Martin Schmidt, decided to feature Osimhen in the match because of his dedication and abilities in training. Schmidt espoused Osimhen’s skills in Wolfsburger Allgemeine, ” it was a decision for Victor. He trained very well and scored the MOST goals. He is the most effective runner and i wanted to reward him.” |

Rohr vindicated! tbaba1234: Victor Osimhen impresses Wolfsburg coach
The long wait for Victor osimhen to make his debut this season is over. Wolfsburg played at home against Mainz and Osimhen came in the 84th minute for Divock Origi.
He is the most effective runner and i wanted to reward him.”
It appears that Schmidt is now a fan of Osimhen. The 18 year old Nigerian is still learning the ropes but Osimhen has been able to break the pecking order in Mario Gomez’s absence. Landry Dimata who is contending for the position did not make it to the bench against Mainz.
It is still unknown, if Osimhen will play in Wolfsburg’s next match against Bayer Leverkusen. Because the injured Mario Gomez could make his comeback in the match.
If Osimhen is injury free and continues to work hard with dedication, he will definitely see his dreams come to fruition in the Bundesliga.

He is however expected to arrive the camp of the team this night, and will be involved in tomorrow’s training session which will take place in the morning at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium. |

prayer answered Super Eagles Only Out-And-Out Left Back Suffers Training Ground Injury Published: October 03, 2017 Super Eagles Only Out-And-Out Left Back Suffers Training Ground Injury Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Monaco loanee Elderson Echiejile could not complete the Super Eagles first training session held at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Tuesday evening. The left back twisted his ankle as he tried to stop the ball during the first practice game that involved four players on each side, and laid on the pitch injured before he was attended to by Super Eagles medical team. Manager Gernot Rohr had to call for a break and Echiejile was replaced by Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi when the session resumed. For about twenty minutes, an ice pack was wrapped around the defender's ankle before it was removed by the physiotherapist. The severity of Echiejile's ankle injury has not been determined yet as he managed to wear his boots and took part in a stretching exercise after the second practice game. Whilst Echiejile is the only out-and-out left back named by Rohr in his 23-man roster, Ola Aina, who was not sighted at today's training session, can also operate in that role, though he is right-footed and predominantly thrives as a right back. so much on point sir. I've already said my own about Aina at LB earlier. Mikel should go all the way this time. He is much fitter than the previous time. Plus he is just coming off a wonderful recent run with Teda. He is match ready and let's expect even more from him. I expect to see Iwobi come in, but for Simon instead. KC will play a part again regardless -- unless Rohr wants to see what Nwakaeme can do. Same as regards Agu vs Ogu -- to replace Onazi. komekn: From my perspective Echiejile is the WEAKEST LINK.
Without a bona-fide left back a makeshift Aina will be better than Echiejile.
If we all can see it, then definitely the Zambians can. That gap needs to be plugged.
First choice striker is Ighalo no contest for now.
The legendary Mikel put in a first class performances against Cameroon considering that he was not really match fit. That's simply amazing. However, he may not last the 90 minutes, I would then replace him with Iwobi who is the next best thing to a playmaker we have in the mold of Mikel.
I would like to see another striker come in, not sure who is most, in-form. Because at the moment KC is not firing on all cylinders and his confidence is not on a high. |
