Our heroes will not play a big role in football administration. It is not in our mentality. It all starts from their playing days, to their years just before retirement. It's not in our character.

NFF slash winning bonus of CHAN team

The Super Eagles home-based players will be paid just N200, 000 after they were promised N700, 000.

Published: 20.08.2017
Steve Dede

The Super Eagles Team B are not happy over the slashing of their winning bonus by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The home-based Super Eagles players on Saturday, August 19 beat the Republic of Benin 2-0 (2-1 aggregate) to qualify for the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

After the game, the players learnt that their winning bonus has been slashed from N700, 000 ($2000) which was promised to N200, 000 ($600).

“We were told before the first leg game in Cotonou that our winning bonus is $2000. The Federation also told us in Cotonou that they came with the bonus only for us to lose the game,” a player whose name was withheld told Naija Football Plus.

“We won yesterday and the NFF told us our winning bonus would be N200,000. We were told to drop our account details and expect alert on Monday.”

It is understood that some of the players spent their own money on flights to and fro camp and the N200, 000 received from the NFF cannot make up for the expenses.

“We put everything into the game to ensure we save the NFF from another disaster of not qualifying for tournaments and this is our reward for serving our country with our hearts," the unnamed player added.

“We are not happy, we are bitter. This treatment towards us is unacceptable, it is not about the money but the manner they treated us and the lies. We are glad we didn’t fail our nation but the NFF should have kept their promises."

Rabiu Ali and Kingsley Eduwo scored the goals as the Super Eagles beat the Republic of Benin to qualify for the 2018 CHAN in Kenya.

You are doubting Alli's age, but not doubting Mba's. Double standard oh. These players are not from the MRI era.

Icon4s:
Sunday Mba was 24 when he featured at that 2013 AFCON.

This is the same Rabiu Alli that a lot of people here criticized Salisu for including in the CHAN list.

Nobody has also commended Ikechukwu Ezenwa for the penalty save that ensured we qualified for the CHAN. Why? Because he is Ikechukwu Ezenwa, a guy alongside Akpeyi, that we don't want in the Super Eagles.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:19pm On Aug 21, 2017
Two goals back to back is the answer.. The following day he scored a cracker for Kano Pillars. if the story is true, then Rohr is not sentimental. Will he make the match day squad? That's another question. I don't care if a 40 year old scores the winner for us against Cameroon. Sunday Mba is not wanted in his club today, but he was old even when he gave us the AFCON trophy. That's the only thing saving our face in football right now.. if not we will still be talking about the 94 class.. I'm not canvassing for Rabiu Ali.. but let's stop all these judgements based on age etc. Rohr watched the Benin match live. If Rohr thinks he is good for an invite, then so be it.

Danycrusoe:
I know this is an unconfirmed list by one of the controversial websites but why is no one talking about the possibility of Rabiu Ali making the official list based on this unofficial one.
I hear the baba is 37 and he still plays like he is just 31 or 39, what will he add to the team if he gets the call up? he has done well this season in the NPFL even scored against Benin just over the weekend, does he have enough international experience to face Cameroon or will he still v that stamina?

na wa, from the did you know stats I hope someone learned something.. Or maybe they already knew but didn't care. Or they didn't know but never cared to know if the player is still playing.. or they wish him retired already.. or they never want to hear his name mentioned..so many possibilities. But I must tell you, these players whether retired or not are well known, and have paid their dues. But we are just faceless on here.. Let's be respectful of all of them. If anyone of you have contributed more to this country, you can show your face.

But like goldfish80 rightly said we are very much like our leaders. I'm not surprised.

The fact is those players are retired. Comparing them to players who are still active is disrespectful. I only spoke about Ike who is in the Segunda liga and gave a stat of his contribution. What has that got to do with Yakubu who could not run in one of his last league matches. Please respect those who have retired and those who have not.. And besides all these players have served their fatherland well.

OWNGOAL FAKE NEWS CORRECTION AGAIN.

Osimhen In, No Ifeanyi Matthew, Aaron Samuel, Joel Obi In Eagles List
August 21, 2017027

‎The list been spread around by respected Nigerian journalist Wale Ajayi has been dismissed by Owngoalnigeria.com sources close to the players he claimed have been invited to the team for the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers against Cameroon.

Ajayi sent a mail to Owngoalnigeria.com where he listed Aaron Samuel as one of the players but a source close to the player said he hasn’t been contacted, hence he is not in the squad.

Joel Obi is one name listed by Ajayi, whom we can now confirm isn’t in the list even Ifeanyi Matthew who played for Lillestroem in Norway is also not in the list which is set to be released later today.

However Victor Osimhen of Wolfsburg made the cut as against several reports according to a source close to the player. He confirmed Osimhen has already received his invitation letter.

Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal Watch Cameroon Main Man Score Hat-Trick For PortoCameroon star Vincent Aboubakar is firing on all cylinders ahead of next Friday's World Cup qualifier between his national team and the Super Eagles at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

The Porto striker is now the leading scorer in the Portuguese Primeira Liga after his hat-trick against Moreirense on Sunday took his league tally for the season to four goals.

According to sports daily O Jogo, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal scouts were among the 46,509 spectators at the Estádio Do Dragão.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Porto's Algeria international Yacine Brahimi this summer, while Manchester United and City have monitored his progress in the past.

Juventus, two French and two Spanish clubs also sent their scouts to monitor the game between Porto and Moreirense.

Exclusive: La Liga Club Leganes In Talks With Watford Striker Success Over Loan DealAccording to information gathered by allnigeriasoccer.com, Spanish La Liga club Leganes are exploring ways to sign out-of-favour Watford attacker Isaac Success on a season-long loan before the end of the transfer window.

The Nigeria international has found himself down the pecking order of strikers in the new season, and did not make the Hornets match day squads against Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Leganes sporting director has opened a line of communication with Success's appointed agent, UK based Ladi Salami, who was one of the parties that brokered the deal that took Odion Ighalo to Chinese club Changchun Yatai F.C in January.

Success is mindful of the fact that this is a World Cup year and he needs to be playing on a regular basis or he'll kiss goodbye to achieving his ambition of being on the plane to Russia.

The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles sensation has a contract with Watford until June 30, 2021.

Let's have the official list and I will have my take.

Nigeria: Finidi, Ogunbote, Maikaba, Others Listed for National Team Jobs

Duro Ikhazuagbe

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has invited former Super Eagles winger Finidi George; Enyimba FC of Aba Manager, Gbenga Ogunbote; Akwa United Head Coach, Abdul Maikaba and 54 other Nigerian coaches for interviews into various vacant national team posts.

Kennedy Boboye who is leading Plateau United to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title is also on the list of invited coaches along with Fidelis Ilechukwu whose MFM FC is second on the topflight log behind the Jos team.

The invited coaches are set to fill vacant positions of Head Coach, Assistant Coach and Goalkeeper Trainer in the U17, U20 and U23 National Teams (men), the U17 and Senior National Teams (women) and the Beach Soccer National Team.

Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Chris Green, said yesterday that the coaches are expected to report at the NFF Secretariat, Abuja on Tuesday, 22nd August 2017, with their original credentials and other relevant certificates/documents.

The list of short-listed candidates was drawn from the pool of applicants who heeded a public notice by the NFF for applications two weeks ago.

The football governing body has advised all the coaches that they would be responsible for their movement to and from Abuja, as well as their upkeep and other personal expenses in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to fixtures released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), two-time FIFA World Cup silver medallists Falconets will take on Tanzania in Nigeria on the weekend of 15-17 September, with the return leg in Dar es Salaam two weeks later.

The winner over both legs will then confront the winner of the fixture pairing Morocco against Senegal in November, before a final round of qualifying matches in January 2018.

The Falconets have played in every edition of the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup, since it was launched as an U19 tournament in Canada 15 years ago. The team reached the quarter finals in Thailand 2004, Russia 2006 and Chile 2008, before finishing as runners -up at the 2010 finals in Germany and at the 2014 finals in Canada.

Very well said!!!

kennysville:
I see folks talk about power vs skill. Hmmmm. I think we need a blend of both and here is how I look at it.
The three main aspects of a team is attack, midfield and the defence. In the attack department, we need both power and skill. We dont want players who get marked out or bullied relying only on skill. It also depends on the formation we are playing. A 4-2-3-1 will mean we have a bull with brains as 9 and foxes as the 3 players behind the lone striker. A 4-4-2 will imply having both a bull and a fox as strikers while we have speedsters with quality delivery on the wings. (Not ahmed musa kind of delivery please!)

In the midfield, we need a super midfielder to run things. one that is skilled in the art of threading killer passes and has absolute concentration at all times paired with an equally gifted but physical holding midfielder. The central defender is definitely power and not skill as they can be muscled off the ball easily if we play skill. It can be costly playing skill in the defence. Power too in the defence can be dangerous but at least all aerial balls are gonna be taken care of.the wing backs need to be a blend of both power and skill to make quality decisions when under pressure.

Therefore in view of up coming match, we shouldnt be too afraid of cameroon. More importantly, we should play our game and blend together as a team regardless of whatever formation is being employed. The objectives of the coaching crew need to have been met in training and executed to perfection on match day. End of story! Question is what is our game plan?

Thank you. We need loose sleep over any team. A healthy dose of confidence is necessary.

I don't care about past SE.

However my eyes will be on Mikel especially against Cameroon, as regards orchestration.

Icon4s:
It was sleek play and swift passes that we used to overcome Zambia in Ndola. Go watch some of the highlights again.

Go also watch Nigeria Vs Cameroon at the 2004 AFCON quarter final.

Go watch also Nigeria Vs Ivory Coast at the 2013 AFCON quarter finals.

As long as Mikel is in that AM position. I call him the orchestrator. He knows what to do with the ball and the attackers know how to play with him.

The Cameroon game would not be easy. But I am not loosing sleep over it.

Good so don't write-off teams. That's what I call arrogance. If we were actually dominating teams, at least I will say that arrogance can be backed up. Most of the time -- if not all the time -- we can't back up our arrogance. We just make noise.

TheGoodJoe:
I wonder who said we have arrived. One of the common term thrown here is that we are still building. Rohr is not long in the job.

The fact remains that we are more of a creative team than a physical one.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:20pm On Aug 21, 2017
I've not said the contrary if you understood my post clearly. I'm saying let's argue based on the reality. There is some aspects of physicality in our game still.
This is our best game in the Rohr era, in my opinion. Victor Moses was the tormentor in chief. If I must sit on the fence analyzing that game, I would say Algeria troubled us. They missed some sitters. But a win is a win. We have not arrived at all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_m64ISLoAM

TheGoodJoe:
In the Rohr era, we are still a passing team over a long ball direct route. Unless you have not watched us play under Rohr.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:00pm On Aug 21, 2017
Exactly my point.

goldfish80:
Obviously you know the drill here. We love making contributions based on platitudes. They want us to play like Arsenal against Cameroon and survive. When the buck that makes up our players don't play that system at their clubs not to talk of the national team.

We love living in denial in this country. That is why we are where we are politically and economically. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The same Nigerians you see in government are the same Nigerians you find on Nairaland. So what do you expect?
