The truth is we had only ONE clear cut chance. The other chances were half chances, most of which were well taken but saved. I think issue was poor tactical set up. We could see confusion between the players some times.

Amedino99:
we sure do waste a whole LOT of chances. It's criminal at this point.

JPes better pass Rohr when it comes to injecting new players.

kodded:
Akpom of Ajax has been on a goal scoring form but somehow this coach deem him surplus to the team

I miss Rohr sad

It calls for a new mentality. Only a serious coach can instill that. Nigeria has lots of players. We need to open the door for stiff competition.

kendrick9:
The super eagles have never done very well in their WC history, what it makes you think these present generation of eagles will change that even if they miraculously qualify for the WC?
Na Iwobi and his gang you expect to do well? grin grin lmao

Just reading OGN's take: https://owngoalnigeria.com/2023/11/16/nigeria-1-1-lesotho-1-player-ratings-three-top-flops-in-super-eagles-stalemate/

and ANS': https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=49482

compared to mine, who got it right or wrong?

Joebie:
My Player Ratings

Bright Osayi-Samuel
Was easily one of the most business-like players especially in the first half. Had a deadly combination with Alex Iwobi but failed to score from a tight angle. He was more active in advanced positions, due to the opponents posing little threat from his side of the flank. His presence seemed to wane as the match progressed. 5/10

Ademola Lookman
For me he worked his socks for the entire duration he was on the pitch. Probably the player with the most scoring chances but was not productive in the grand scheme of things, no thanks to the Lesotho goalie. On one occasion Lookman, after finding space, picked a spot from a wide angle but the Lesotho captain was quick to react. His decision making was suspect other occasions. 5/10

Taiwo Awoniyi
He seemed out of the game right from kick off, and was largely anonymous until a glorious chance fell at his feet. A game to forget for a player who is not back to tip top form in the EPL. His miss will be likened to Yakubu's famous WC blunder for a long time to come. 3/10

Victor Boniface
Seemed a little clumsy at times always looking to try a skill or two to bit his marker. He needs to be more adventurous and quick at goal like his namesake. He probably should take more chances. Overall an average game for his link up play. 5/10

Alex Iwobi
Arguably the best Nigerian on the pitch due to his work rate and attempts to exploit gaps from the midfield to find his teammates upfront. He covered grounds but his influence was not felt enough. 6/10

Semi Ajayi
He cannot be single handedly blamed for the loss of concentration in defense that led to the Lesotho goal. He always showed up in corner kick situations to position himself for a header, one of which paid off to draw Nigeria level (his first for Nigeria). He gets the highest rating for saving the day. 6.5/10

Frank Onyeka
On this day, Onyeka was not imposing in midfield. It's hard to figure out exactly what he brought to this game 4/10

Kelechi Iheanacho
Was always looking to deliver crosses to forward positions. Was the better free kick taker, and showed his prowess in dead ball situations with his pin-point assist from the corner spot. He should have killed the game in the later stages, from long range something he is known for, but was not fast enough to fire a nice pass from Boniface. Performed to standard but failed to score. 5.5/10

Jamiliu Collins
Collins did not look like he has not been capped by Nigeria in a while. He fitted just right in and had one or two goal threatening chances. Combined well with Lookman. Not a bad game. 5/10

Calvin Bassey
Did a job or two, and pushed forward often times to help. Could not do much to redeem the situation. Gets a low rating for poor concentration at times at the rear. 4/10

Francis Uzoho
Came ready to not to repeat a howler. Did well to make a few saves. Did a job and was not at fault for the goal conceded. Another mistake waiting to happen? 5/10

Subs
Moses Simon
He replaced Lookman and immediately brought something different to the game. He was more calm and seemed like he had a plan. However, his plan did not pay off. He could not create big chances for the strikers. He could have done better in dead ball situations. 5/10

Terrem Moffi
Was met with his back to goal on a few occasions. But other than linking with his teammate, he did not provide any answers in the front line. 4/10

Bruno Onyaemachi
For the time he lasted he seemed more withdrawn to midfield and was rarely operating in the flanks. Besides combining well with his teamates he did not offer much in the relatively short time on the pitch.

Joe Aribo
He had a half chance after replacing Onyeka, but could not connect a header. Unrated due to short time on the pitch.

Ola Aina
Spent about 10 minutes on the pitch after coming in for Osayi-Samuel. Unrated

So we leave it late? We go miss another WC be that.

MetalJigsaw:
Oga whether late or earlier does not really matter. I'm sure even a hurriedly injected Eguavoen or Finidi will do better than that grade z coach
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:54pm On Nov 16, 2023
I wouldn't mind sacrificing the AFCON. We need to look ahead or it will be bad at both fronts.
I don't mind even Finidi, or Both..

Modified
I beg to differ on Rohr

Monsignor22:
Get in Amuneke fast and give him EVERY damn support he will need to navigate this team through our murky qualifiers, good thing is that we aren't facing South Africa anytime soon so we can still salvage our fate and qualify as the second best team.

But you see Peseiro? that guy na standard bastard, the idiot looks more like a gay pi.mp from the 90's than an actual coach. Its moments like this that I miss Rohr, he wasn't your fancy everyday coach, but he knew how to beat minnow teams professionally especially in qualifiers.

Rohr and JP are part of Pinnick's legacy...seeking the advice of Wenger and Mourinho on the coach for the SE.

The current NFF leadership are pretty anonymous at the moment. Can't tell their direction or focus.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:20pm On Nov 16, 2023
I think realistically we can qualify and do very well at the WC, and of course, that's with a new well seasoned coach..

TheSuperNerd:
What's wrong with this team?

Answer 1: Jose Peseiro

Answer 2: The stubborn insistence on wrong deployment of personnels and also using a formation that absolutely limits the team.

Some in here think I am mad when I say Jpes is a dunce and is even worse than Rohr who was also terrible majorly in his final 2.5yrs as coach.

With Jpes, Nigeria at the Afcon won't do much. We would just compete and complete the numbers. We aren't getting close to that trophy UNLESS HE FIXES OUR MIDFIELD AND SCRAPS THIS STUPID 442/424 NONSENSE (since he cannot even deploy the right personnel to execute the 442 properly).

We just gave 153rd-ranked Lesotho a point in UYOooo. Kaaaaiiii... a shame that some will still come to Jpes' defence.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:16pm On Nov 16, 2023
tell them o. When/if we beat Zimbabwe, they will start having hope again grin

bossto:
You don't need any soothsayer to tell you that this team lead by jpeseiro is not going anywhere. Let's just tell ourselves the truth and stop living in denial.
This coach doesn't know more than some of us here, he's just an excuse for a coach. A useless coach that just came to bring the SE to the mud.

Eight attackers, four midfielders lol... Now how many goals your attackers don score??

I'm down with all this rubbish
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:14pm On Nov 16, 2023
Thank you egbon. The players are unserious.. The coach gets the blame for this.

Kog45:
Pls cancel 2023 Nairaland Nigeria football fans award….we cannot be here talking football and guys will just strolling in having vacation with earbuds instead of real tactical training and one stupid coach would just believe Nigeria fans are dummies.
