i think ur earlier post on the quran has been able to enlighten me on some of these issues.as a southerner i'd lived most of life up north in kd and i know that some of the people and friends i'd met can stand out to be some of the best nigerians we have but on the flip side of things i've also met terrible beast,i've lost love ones to religious crisis i cant hurrily 4get the shariah crisis in 2000,in fact years ago while i was barely 8 i had been stabbed by an almajiri kid who normally comes together with his mates to my area to beg for alms and food,following arguements while playing football,the statements they were echoing were the ones that are normally chanted during crisis-allahu akbar~blah blah blah.
Do i nw say because of the attitudes of these almajiris who were raised on a flawed upbringing affect my judgement of a northern person of good education/upbringing and impeccable character all because he/she shares the same religion with another animal who kills in the name of that religion.absolute not.i think there should be an understanding,this lack of understanding is what scares most people especially southerners about islam,they are ignorant about it and accept negative stereotypes of violence!shariah etc to becloud their judgements on islam and truthfully speaking they have a right to be.this should seriously place a burden on moderates into reaching out,opening up and dymistifying this percieved 'myth' about islam,and i think this task is nt impossible seeing people from the south are very much opened to learning new things.this system has worked and perfectly working in the U.S. with the way americans abhor-detest and even dread islam,the religion is the second fastest growing religion in the U.S. with followers running into millions, thats because even in the face of terrorism which are perpatrated by muslims,the muslim leaders and clerics in america have been able highlight the good aspects of islam as regards peaceful coexistence,love etc and throw away the violence thats why they condemn violent attacks and this has endeared so many americans to islam.
You made recourse to the fact that xtianity is the bloodiest religion,though these are complex issues we cant really discuss all here but killings by olden days catholics are issues that have been strongly and have been proven to be unchristianly,alot of these people were nt xtians. But on the issue the old testament,yes GOD did ask his peole(isrealites) to go to war and kill,they did this to reclaim lands from people whom had sinned against Him and interestingly if u read when the isrealites sinned he allows other nations to attack,kill and take them captive.bt as time went,the seasons of time changed and God being God indeed sent his son into saving the world and also abrogate some of the laws he gave hundreds of years before that suited the perculiarities of the times,so where he said an eye for an eye,Christ said forgive,infact Christ brought a whole new dawn to the existence of mankind,moreso when he left his disciples were given revelations and visions in handling various problems in christiandom and more interestingly is the gift of the holy spirit that gives you access to GOD through a simple channel called prayers.

how else should we decifer what allah said,it is plainly written kill an unbeliever(xtian,jew,budhist etc) if he does not subscribe to the tenants of ur religion(islam) so how else do i need to dig deep to understand according to u the real meaning of what was said,or hw else do u hope to convince a convert of all these violence in the quran in a fast changing world where issues that have to do with the fundamental rights of people as regards beliefs,expressions etc are sacrosant.and i think the poster highlighted the fact of politics and i believe to some large extent,environments also matter in all this.why for instance in the south west where a huge chunk and in fact almost every family has got a mixed breed of muslim and christians,who live in harmony devoid of any rancour even at the face of divergent views on religious underpinnings.hw about ghana where incidentally there is a huge population of native hausas practicing islam,but we have never heard of religious riots.even in the arab world where islam came from,there are some countries in the middle east that are very peaceful,dubai the biz hub of the uae has millions frollicking there annually,kuwait,quatar,bahrain,turkey,cyprus etc are muslim countries but accomodate and live peacefully with non muslims.
My candid view,the prophet,whether correct or under the illusion he was sent by god to propagate islam went about it fanatically,thereby bringing violence and a do or die nature into it,he was to some large extent successful with his adventure,partly due to his zeal and also the socio-religious way the society then was,there were alot of pagan worship and here was a man bringing what you might call a better offer to the table,but as years and ages went by, with islam going around the world(northern nigeria inclusive) complexities of various aspects of socialisation had also evolved,with people now living in multi ethnic/religious/political societies with fundamental human rights i think some of the teachings of the quran has to be thrown away because they do not hold water in our present day,that is what the muslims in quater,turkey and the rest(refered to as moderates) have done,and you can see the way they have progressed and are far developed than taliban ruled afganistan,tribal iraq,tribal pakistan,tribal yemen etc who are aversed to the harsh shariah style as espoused by the prophet.
Unfortunately in northern nigeria,we have a situation where high level illiteracy and poverty has made the people take everything given to them hook,line sinker without recourse to debating or carefully chronicling what ever is told them,as such people have nw become a slave to a religion.consequently,politicians and leaders in this region have taken advantage of this vulnerability to impose their wishes on the people,so when there is percieved dominance by southerners(unbelievers) either in the politico-economic scene.it is very easy to say take clubs and knives and go slaughter them,burn their churches,shops and houses.
Thats why they have nt been able to curb the almajiri syndrome or even reduce it,at the moment,FG statistics says 9million,these are battalions of ever ready troops waiting to march out when the commander says GO!
Note:northern nigeria is the mort backward and poorest region in the world.

I really support the CAN guys,putting someone like Lemu to head that panel is a subtle way of insulting the families of the slain victims and nigerians in general,from the first time i saw the composition of the panel,i knew this was just another jamboree,i'm a staunch gej supporter but he gets a thumbs down on this one.A more independent person with no inclination to any of the faith would have being ok.

Let it be noted that nobody's got monopoly of violence,its such a pity some people would for ever remain babaric,wicked and evil.Now whether the report from the security agencies is authentic or a mere propaganda, is another thing,but the fact remains few weeks ago rampaging youths of northern nigeria extraction went loose(obviously following orders from certain quotas) burnt and looted properties they cant afford in their life time,butchered and killed women,kids,corpers mainly from the south and indigent christians in some of these state.In a place like KD where i grew up and was at the said time when all this carnage was going on,words cant explain things that happen,ever since i was a kid,i've been experiencing these recurrent crisis,from the zango kataf which i could barely remember as a toddler my late mum running with me to a military barrack,to the sharia riot in 2000 when as a boarding student we had to run away from school because my school which is owned by a popular TV evangelist was a target,they succeeded in burning the school but gory sight i experienced on my way fleeing still hunt me till this day,people were hatched and matcheted as if they were animals,i was just 10years then and hw we were able to escape is still a miracle i give thanks to God.After that came the miss world riots of 2004,when senseless youths took to the streets again burning and killing all because of an article they felt was an affront on their prophet,after this the govt was able to curb this menace not until recently.What really baffles me when all these happens is the innocent souls that normally lose their lives most of the time the almajiries who indulge in these acts most often than not live to tell the story,because a state like KD that is highly polarised between religious and ethnic divides,the northern part of the state as includes zaria,rigachukun down to the central part of the town places like kawo,tudun wada and the rest are highly dominated by the hausa/fulani with a minority of xtian indigenes and non indigenes,while down south of the state capital and state is an overwhelming indigent and non indigent christian community coupled with a small fraction of hausa/fulani muslims,so when they start up north,the youths down south would also retaliate burning mosques,shops and killing innocent muslims.we dont really need all these violence in our nation,educating kids in other to uproot the almajiri trend cannot be overemphasised,because they will always be robots twisted to suit the whims of some heartless religious and political hawks.Time has come when the security agencies need to get inteligence and act on it,and culprits brought to book.the idea where injustice is allowed to rule,and people who have committed crimes against humanity are left off the hook only leave scars of hatred and bigotry in our community.
