A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving in Ebonyi State, Godshield Kanjal, has flagged-off the planting of over 6,000 economic trees in the state. He said the excercise is aimed at tackling climate change and poverty in the state. Speaking at the flag off of the exercise at Achara Community School, Ugwu-Achara, Ebonyi state, the NYSC member explained that although in recent times, the debate on tackling climate change and poverty in most countries of the world had topped the agenda at different fora, it was high time resolutions of such debates were implemented in the grassroots. He noted that following the huge impact global warming poses on the environment, such as intense rainfall, flood, severe and frequent heat waves among others, the idea to tackle it head-on for the period of his one-year compulsory service to fatherland became necessary. He added that the project was part of his personal Community Development Service (CDS), a cardinal programme of the scheme, hence achieving the seventh Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of environmental sustainability. According to him: "improved specie of economic trees such as orange, bush mango, guava, oil palm, avocado pear, cashew among others in private homes, public property and on road sides could help reduce poverty in Africa. Mr. Kanjal opined that there is huge wealth in planting economic trees and many people do not know this. "I urge every teacher and pupil here to go home and plant at least one economic tree at home". He added that part of strategy employed to convey the message to the people of the state is through local radio and TV jingles, urging the people of the state to listen regularly to Unity FM 101.5 and salt FM, Abakaliki. He said radio programme would be aired on those stations both in English and Igbo languages. Also speaking, the Head Mistress of the pilot school, Mrs Orji Agnes Ezine lauded the project saying "this is the best project I have ever seen from an NYSC member. Indeed, it is a multi purpose project which is aimed at curbing climate change and poverty. We the entire staff of Achara Community School are proud of you. All my teachers have indicated interest in your project. They have confided in me that they want to plant economic trees in their respective homes and with this determination, your six thousand economic trees target would be achieved," she said. Mrs Orji further advised government to make available improved species of economic trees at affordable rate to the people of the state. Reacting, the state commissioner of Environment, Hon Moses Ogodoali lauded the corps member's initiative, promising to support the project. The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Mbachi Gladys who was represented by the Abkaliki Local Government Inspector of NYSC, Barr Ngwoke Nwokoro applauded the corp member, In his remarks, he appreciated and congratulated Mr. Kanjal on the successful flag off of the tree planting campaign in selected schools, "You are indeed a very special corps member who in spite of the economic situation in the country has decided to touch lives through planting of economic trees in schools, we salute you for living the dream of the scheme through community development service which is one the cardinal programs of NYSC". He wrapped up his speech by enjoining Mr Kanjal to continue in his good works and service to humanity.

Just got alert from NECO |
This can only happen in Nigeria; we were hurried to use just 7 days to mark and compile loads of scripts, now they have released the results, yet the adhoc staff that slaved for this are still being owed. Heck! |
I really dont understand NECO, after two weeks of all those stress. |
Nigeria winning games such as this against Japan despite the odds,is part of the reason administrators will always falter with preparations. |
Lol @ Grand Square bread. But that of NEXT is war, the queue and fight for their bread is something else |
This is at best laughable, did I hear him say no hotels, haha, is lilongwe as beautiful and organised as calabar? Perhaps he should do his findings and ask where previous qualifier matches have been played. Na wa oo, 9ja don suffer. |
I really dont see how this concerns us in politics oooo |
I think we need to critically look at the criteria before judging which are the most developed state capital whilst considering issues such as infrastructures, industries et al. For those peeps calling calabar, i think you might be wrong, calabar for now does not fit to be classified amongst the top 5 developed state capital in Nigeria, maybe in the not too distant future it may,but right now the town virtually has no factories plus its still more of a civil service state with fast food and hotels adorning the streets. |
Jossyroyal1:hi pls can u give me infos on the post ume procedures ie as per last year how much is paid to buy the post ume scratch card and so on. |
Wow,RIP to the comedy legend, so sad and i watched one of his movies just some few hours ago. |
@hoodrat bros even the uninterupted electricity is over hyped, lights do go off in ghana, and i'm talking on daily/weekly intervals, and in fact in some neigbourhoods there is no power at all. |
Really these gay.nians are really funny, never before have i seen a people suffering immensely from inferiority syndrome. With their fat lie of how their 'beautiful' country is a no match with nigeria coupled with the uninterupted power farce. This reminds me when a few years ago while in uni my dept embarked on a four nation west african tour{ghana inclusive}.when we got to ghana the uni of legon they wont allow us to hear word cant even stand shoulder high with UI,UNN or Ibadan, infact their universities can in no way match ours, the only difference is due to our population, infrastructures have been outstretched and as such the resultant effect of some of our crumbling instititutions. And i laugh @sisi talking about how ghana is educating our future leaders,oh see this ignoramoses, only if he knew the number of nigerians who school in better endowed countries in europe, malaysia, dubai, cyprus, the US and so on. The fact is over 80% of nigerians schooling in ghana are the ones who couldn't secure admissions in nigeria(ofcourse due to the fact that our uni's cant admit all). Perhaps sisi and his mates forget that the worbid nigerian uni's they criticize are winning laurels, take ur mind back to the zain africa challenge, where our uni's are dominating that field.0% of nigerians schooling in ghana are the ones who couldn't secure admissions in nigeria(ofcourse due to the fact that our uni's cant admit all). Shei dem say no advert for this section? |
@beta things just brought out a some notes from my wallet and i noticed majority of the notes ie 100,200 and 500 signed by Sanusi have got arabic inscribtions, so whats going on,some notes have the nigerian languages while some have arabic and all were signed by sanusi. |
I'm presently in kd, have nt heard anything of that sort, i've even contacted peeps around there and they seem nt to be aware of any blast, plus the local news did not report anything. I'm wondering where this unfounded news is coming from although i saw it on nigerianewsdesk via tweet. |
