dexmond: Just curious... Weren’t Shia protest being violently suppressed in the North not too long ago? What changed that Shia can now protest in support of Iran openly and the government didn’t intervene? 🤔hmmm. Maybe because those ones are based in Kaduna and Abuja. Who knows? Maybe the ones in Katsina are more "northerner" than the rest. |
Romance › Re: Evening Newspaper: Girls Feeling Pressured by JoeEeL(m): 1:58pm On Jun 23, 2025 |
Taquin: This one is for the babes who are starting to question their worth because of what they see online. I turn 30 next Sunday, so I believe I’m in a good place to write this, not from a place of fear, but from experience and sense.
Over the last few months, I’ve seen some wild comments from men on Nairaland. Things like “after 7”, “evening newspaper”, “depleted ovaries”… you name it. But let me tell you: that’s not on you. That’s on them.
If you're feeling down because of these words, pause and breathe. . These men; the ones who use these terms. I’ve studied them. Yes, I went through their old posts. The youngest among them is about 43. 😂 Imagine a 43-year-old man online calling women expired. God forbid my own future husband is wasting his time typing such rubbish on a forum. One even replied me once saying I should "rest". This is someone struggling to pay N150k school fees for his 8-year-old child and rent somewhere in the bush in Ikorodu. 😭 Another one, sleeping in the office Monday to Friday because transport to Ajah will eat his entire salary. We already had our third degree by 23 but one man from Ogbomosho thinks he would be doing me a favour by marrying me. These same people shouting “in saner climes” but the only airport they have seen is from watching James Bond movies. 😭😭😭
And these are the same ones screaming "I can't marry a 25+ year old, they’re too old." At 40+? You’re not even ashamed. Ato ole.
Ladies, these are the ones calling you evening newspaper. Do you now see that it has nothing to do with you? If you’re here and you’re worried about these people, don’t be. This message is not for the real men who respect women and are just struggling financially. My message for you is: it’ll be okay soon, amen.
Now for the rest of us baby girls 👸🏽: There’s a flawed logic these same men like to push. This idea of "100 women to 1 man". It’s a lie. Statistically, there are more men than women in Nigeria and in the world. You can Google it. They just use that flawed stat to make women feel desperate. Let me say this clearly girls: If you are not earning your own money, you have no business dating. Once you start making money, your standards go up naturally. That’s why you’ll see Regina Daniels with a Ned Nwoko, but you’ll never see Temi Otedola with Dangote. 😏 I saw a thread the other day. One Nairaland uncle asking for advice on dating an 18-year-old. By page 2, he had mentioned giving money to her mother. So please, work. Even if it’s small. Take yourself on mini-vacations within Nigeria. Join clubs. Play sports. I play chess. In fact, there’s no antichess player in Africa better than me. Just recently, I came 3rd out of 2,500 players globally in the Antichess World Championship . 💅🏽 I’m also starting Pilates with my girls, and I’m going to take standard chess seriously again. I want to become Nigeria’s first grandmaster by age 37. So please my girls: 1. Buy good skincare. 2. Learn how to do your makeup — Mac, Fenty, Lancôme… get at least one. 3. Look younger, stay fresh. 4. Don’t ever beg for transport fare to go on a date. 🙅🏽♀️
Don’t settle because some man with a “Akungba university 1984” ID is calling you names online. 😭 Look at Asa Asika. Look at Davido. Look at Toolz and Tunde. Real rich kids marry close in age because they’re not looking for desperation, they’re looking for a match. Take your time. Don’t lower your crown. Someone will love you fully with money, respect, maturity, and peace of mind. There’s someone for everyone. Just don’t rush because of what these agbado philosophers are saying on Nairaland . 😂 Remember: When they say “You’re too old,” just remember, The only thing outdated is their mindset which expired after Jonathan’s first tenure. Stop explaining your standards to people who’ve never met them. There’s a man for every woman and yours will see your worth without needing you to shrink or beg for it. So to every woman reading this: You’re not behind. Evening newspaper still has breaking news. Bye baby girls U go write epistle tire. Na like this e dey start. |

BOSSkesh: I believe there are powers at play here Who wants to destabilize and destroy our food sectors Who stands to benefit from the chaos caused by these Fulani bandits Indeed there seems to be a conspiracy to target our food basket As seen in recent times in benue, plateau and taraba states There's a deliberate attempt to compromise our food security and communal peace. And at the same time cause inflation and unending war and supply of ammunition.
There's also a religious and ethnic agenda to this, with both local and believe me, foreign actors on this thing. The bastards are reading our comments right now. |

Nairaland General › Re: The 40 Character Minimum And Other Forum Updates by JoeEeL(m): 4:14pm On Jun 19, 2025 |
Seun: My Fellow Nairalanders,
We have implemented a minimum post size of 40 characters in order to improve our content quality. We want people to patiently compose substantial replies before hitting the submit button. Based on your feedback, we may increase or decrease the limit in the future.
We have also extended the blocking period between members to 3 weeks, because many Nairalanders felt that the previous duration was too short.
Our automated system for dealing with spam and toxicity is now much smarter than it was in the beginning. It's now much less likely to take action against innocent posts. Alas, it is still far from perfect, so please be patient with us as we strive to make it more perfect.
- Seun. Do you know a quote only renders a notification? In other words, if someone who mentions me edits his comment, do you know I would not get a notification that the comment was edited? And you realise comments and posts are often edited right? So you needed someone to point out something so obvious to you after many years of owning this site? |

- Seun. Have you ever heard of witty responses? What makes you think a response cannot be powerful but short? What about images? Don't you know someone can make a satisfactory reply to someone or to a post with an image? A mandatory 40 character-long requirement doesn't appear too smart. People can still use a series of dots or strange characters to bypass it. Get more creative. |

EponObi: Africa must be respected yen yen but you go around international podcasts and interviews to denigrate your country. Lmaooo. You demarket your country on international platforms but you are now angry and an international show promoter isn't giving you the same level of respect and resources like other featured stars.
Respect una.
Whereas your family is part of the rot afflicting this nation. Not only is your uncle serving as a governor in one of the states, he is also performing terribly. Not only do you criticize, demarket, and abuse the government, you and your papa and uncle went around Abuja doing "rankadede" to Tinubu, Shettima, and Akpabio. Funny dude. He's receiving the direct consequences of his badmouthing of d country, all d time. If its once in a while, its understandable. But all d time, nahh. Even Wizkid was in support of EndSARS but was mature about it. Even Runtown was one of d first musicians to start the protest. But them no dey run mouth anyhow. Very mature about it. But Davido, na lie. Cho cho cho everywhere. |

Davido better respect himself. 50 is a master of trolling, and will be bad for his art if he does.
No one gives you free respect, you have to earn it. You not a Grammy winner or had a major hit in last 5 years, and you demanding respect. Ure a real gee to know 50 is a king troller. Let me ask u, which of his past trolling in his past comes to mind? |

RollinTNDA: You see why State Policing and each state having their own security police is a very very bad idea.
It will be abused. Simple.
That is why you don't hand over gun to anybody that us not trained professionally on handling such deadly weapon.
Majority of Vigilantes groups have abused their powers on ordinary civilians.
My EX used to threaten me in PH because her elder brother was a vigilante. He said he can make me dissappear and nothing will happen. Imagine I had to relocate from PH because of him..
Our normal police is EVIL no doubt But you see private police, vigilante, para military groups are the most ruthless and wicked killers. I take exception to Amotekun. We Yorubas have been cautious and civilised in handling things of security like this. Even OPC too, for example. They are never that reckless. |
