breadandtea:We all have our different culture, traditional tittles must emanate from d traditional culture of d particular place. In yoruba land, we have different classes of kings, & each class has its own specific traditional attire( Staff, Crown, bead, et'al), a 2nd class kind does not put on wot belongs to a 1st class king, so does a 3rd class do not use wot is specified for a 2nd class. There are also Baales & other lower Chiefs. Before u can proclaim one as a king, he must be approved by d state Govt of d state within whose jurisdiction d said king's kingdom is. I could remember wen I was a boy during d military era, a man was arrested for proclaiming himself king without d approval of d state govt. Also wen OBJ was president, a man proclaimed him self "Oba gbogbo Yoruba in Abuja", OBJ warned him seriously, and he stopped proclaiming himself. Am not in support of d way d youth treated d Eze as u call him so am I not in support of any tribe ridiculling d tradition of others. If u want an Eze baddly, and d ruler of d land won't let u, y not meet with him so he can approve a chief for u and call him wotever u wish to call him. |
Beneficiaries of the National Power Sector Apprenticeship Scheme, NAPSAS, has petitioned the Chairman of the Senate Adhoc Committee on Power, Senator Abubakar Kyari, accusing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Ambassador Godknows Igali of diverting the N3.5 billion meant for the payment of the beneficiaries of the scheme. In the petition submitted to Kyari, the beneficiaries alleged that the ministry recruited 7200 youths for the apprenticeship scheme which was expected to last for six months but stopped abruptly. It added that each participants of the scheme was expected to be paid N20,000 monthly stipend for six months after which they may be absorbed into the power sector, but that was not to be as at the moment, due to failure of the permanent secretary to implement the programme to the fullest even after N3.5 billion has been budgeted for it since last year. The apprentices of the scheme disclosed that they decided to protest and expose the alleged scam being allegedly perpetrated through the scheme by the power ministry because of the false claim made by the permanent secretary that a total of 600 apprentices have been formally absorbed into the power sector after their training. Thy said Igali had claimed in the media that 600 NAPSAS had been recruited after completion of their training and offered employment across the eleven electricity Distribution Companies otherwise known as DISCOS. The aggrieved apprentices however challenged Ambassador Igali to publish names and addresses of those recruited by the DISCOs after their trainings. The petition reads in part: “NAPSAS is capacity building Program that was flagged off by the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Power, for various categories of unemployed Nigeria youths, in November 2014 with the overall purpose of bridging the skilled manpower gaps presently experienced in the power sector. “In the Program guideline, it was stipulated that the total number of participants will be 7400 from across the federation, with 200 participants each, to be drawn from the 36 states and the FCT. “ It was also stipulated that the programme is to last for six months with intensive hands- on training and each participant would be paid a monthly stipend of N20, 000 at commencement by Federal Government through Ministry of Power/NAPSA and probably, be absorbed into the power sector at the end of the six months training period. “The Training was also scheduled to be carried out by the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN). “Consequently, the Federal Government flagged off the commencement of this Programme at the Presidential Villa on November 6, 2014 witnessed by some few selected number of Participants (Trainees) numbering up to 25 with open declaration by President Jonathan that a total of N3.5 billion had been earmarked for it, mostly for payment of monthly N20, 000 stipends to participants for six months training. “The Training was supposed to be continued immediately but suffered some delay, for reasons no one cared to inform us, the trainees about. until Monday December 15, 2014 when we were invited for the induction exercise at Bolingo Hotels, Central Business District Abuja by 10:00am during which credentials of the entire trainees were screened and final successful participants selected . “On the 2nd February 2015, the trainees were mobilized for the first phase of the training, across the states and FCT for 10 days (2-13th feb., 2015), after we had earlier registered through NAPTIN website. ”To our disappointment, the trainees were not paid after that first phase, even when the payment were made, it was only some of the trainees in Abuja that were paid 18,000Naira only as against 20,000 Naira budgeted for each trainee. “We add here that after our training in February, there were some adjustments to the effect that some trainees with qualification less than first degree, were actually deployed into the field for their fieldwork experience, while those with degrees were redistributed to some other areas like metering, solar, billing etc as against what they had previously made as their choices, and that brought about the second theoretical training between May and June 2015. “On March 2, 2015, NAPTIN’s management sent out text messages to us requesting from us the Trainees to reply with our Full Name, Phone numbers, Passport photograph and signature between March 2, 2015 and March 3, 2015 and send to a provided link napsastraining@naptin.org.ng” to enable them process our Identity Card for field posting. “We all responded as requested but never heard anything relating to Identity card, neither were we given any form of identity till date. We kept waiting to hear from NAPSAS/ NAPTIN for what and when next while we were sitting at home. “On 22nd March 2015, we received another text message from NAPTIN management prompting us to report on Monday April 13, 2015 at the various selected designation nationwide for a 16 weeks hands-on skills training on both Solar Installation and Maintenance as well as Metering depending on the Field of Study and Qualification of the Trainees which we responded to, but also ended abruptly after two weeks without any cogent reasons given or payments made.” |
bqlekan:I wonder where dis issue of English & Engineering is coming from. The quality of ur spoken English is not a function of d higher institution u attend or d course u read in sch. It is a function of how solid ur primary and secondary education is. I am an Engineer, I attended one of the F.U.T. & I speak so well, I didn't learn it in d university, I grew up to understand that I can speak English, I might not be able to speak big vocabulary like Hon patrick, buh a simple, correct and fluent English is wot is expected of me as a graduate. While I was in sch, I had course mates that could speak better than a good lawyer. I have seen lawyers dat do not knw d difference between present & past tense. So if u can't speak Simple & Correct English, blame it on ur foundation, Not Engineering. |

@op, hmmmmmm, I tire for u o, dem force u go poly? Abi u no see jamb form b4 u buy poly jamb? If u are not satisfied, get a direct entry form & get admitted into 300L in any university. How can u call for equality wen d HND=300L? And as for those who say d HND is more sound dan d Degree, good luck to u. Buh I knw those who designed d poly & university curriculum are not fools. Each of them was designed for specific purpose respectively. D poly for technical handling and d degree for management. |
This will serve as a lesson to parents and kids seeking admission. Its not all about going to higher institution, or just doing a course, u have to knw wot it entails. In my own case, I had to stay at home for 6yrs because I didn't get admitted for d course of my choice and thanks to God I eventually got in. Not that I wasn't admitted into other courses, I had admission all those six years buh they were not my choice. As for d poly stuff, I thank God I had a father who have once suffered d same fate as op, he made sure none out of his six kids ever took d Poly jamb form talk less of getting admitted into poly. So we grew up with d mind set that university is superior than d polytechnic. |

Brother, in as much as I will like to help bear ur pain, I will like to enlighten u on some issues. The university Degree and d HND are not d same. Their course content, Mode of entry, result value in d labour mkt are different. For instance, 1.) if u apply for DE with an HND, u will be admitted into 300L in d university. 2.) if u opt for postgrad, u will have to pass trou a year PGD b4 applying for Post grad while a degree holder will apply direct for post grad except if its a 3rd class. 3.) If ur foundation is HND and u latter have PHD without passing through university Degree, u can't lecture in d university, u can only b a lab technologist. Even while we were in 500L, there is dis Prof that will tell us not to b afraid of lab tech that we can only respect dem. That wen we graduate, we become their boss. Even d university degree u talk about, there is discrimination, we have d B.Eng, B.Tech, B.Sc, LLB, B.Edu. Some are regarded as professional courses, d others are not. So my brother, d university degree & d HND are not same and a such can't be treated as same. |
FELLOW NIGERIANS: Ppl should understand dat, APC a platform on which buhari became president is d base on which he will have to rule this country. His ministers, SGF, Ambassadors, Board members, Security aids, domestic staffs, Chief of Staff, Judiciary heads, Legislative heads, etc will (whether we like it or not) have to be affiliated to d APC. In fact d peace of dis country depends to a great extent on d level peace available in d APC. The APC becomes a platform on which Government operates. So tell me, how do u select dis above mentioned officers form d party when party members from whom selection/recommendations are to me made are not of one mind? D platform itself is rocking, how does d President stand on it without falling? Or should He fall so dat we will all say he isn't fit for d post? The president have on diff occasions made bold statements I believe Nigerians should trust in. 1.) I belong to everybody, I belong to no body. 2.) All APC members should let go their personal interest, for d Good of d APC and d country at large. Being Africans, I knw its a normal phenomenon for us to wish d whole country burn because we want to prove that President Buhari is not capable. Elections have come & gone. A winner has emerged, why can't we come together and see how we can move this country forward, buh instead, we want to c dat buhari fails so dat leadership will have to move from him by next election. These are not good qualities of a patriotic Nigerian. The task to make dis country great is a task for me and u, and its a task dat must be done. |
so make una reduce sexual dumb thread for this section
1) I'm not an engineering student 2) I'm judging from the ones I've come across. Most are very good academically but not fluent in English. they write well tho.
