Why did Ojukwu release Awo 48 hours after Gowon Ordered the Release even though Ojukwu had been governor nearly 8 months and 3 months earlier Awo had written to Ironsi seeking Pardon
Why THAT MOMENT?

Did Ojukwu go along with the order because HE AGREED with it or did he INITIATE IT independently

Did he issue a different pardon
Ive been saying it over and over. Ojukwu AGREED and was in total support. Ironsi was not a good politician. He was scared to release Awo so as not to offend the north because their most important leaders had been eliminated in a coup designed to install Awo. I've read accounts of how there were attempts to murder Awo in prison. He didn't release Okpara, K.O Mbadiwe, RFK and co either.

Ojukwu like many young officers from the South admired Awo but in the military you obey your C.O. and Ironsi was in charge

OK what about the release of Obasanjo in 1998?
Did the Governor of the state say he wasn't aware that Obasanjo was to be released?

Lol, dont mind them. Normally I should have stopped answering them since page 3 of this thread but that will give them more power to peddle the false narratives.

This is their modu operandi.
Deny the truth to the end even if you are taken back in time in the face of strong evidence.
Bring out personal assertions to try to bend the truth and invalidate its authenticity.
Resort to personal abuse to digress the author from the subject matter and pollute the thread.
Lastly, make sure you keep lying, lying, lying, and never budge anytime to accept any truth.

I even have the video where Gowon convened the national conference in Lagos in September 13th, 1966 with all the regions represented. He was trying to ask the way forward from Nigerians and what mode of government system we wish to practice. How was he be able to convey that conference without him having control over Calabar prison a month earlier.
Another faulty comparison.

A constitutional conference in Lagos attended by all regions in September does not in any way infer that Gowon had any authority over the Eastern Region. I hope you know the Eastern Region refused to attend the next conference held in October. Why did Gowon not force them to attend if he had control?
PoliticsRe: Youtube Video That Showed Gowon Released Chief. Awolowo From Prison In 1966 by joeyfire(m): 7:44pm On Nov 21, 2019
LegendHero:
It does not matter whether the governor knows or not. The chief warder of Calabar prison (a federal one) take orders from the Supreme military council leader and he will follow orders either the governor of the region knows about it or not.

Just like Buhari can give command for any federal prisoner in Kirikiri to be released and Sanwo-olu will dare not question the directive.
Sanwo-Olu is a very poor example. You cannot compare a democratic climate to a military command and control structure and the protocols involved. Who controlled the soldiers in the Eastern Region?

What is actually your conculsion?

Was it that Gowon ordered the release of Awolowo and Ojukwu obliged or you mean Ojukwu actually released Awo himself?
I answered this question in my first post on this thread. Kindly answer the question. Can the chief warder Calabar prisons release Awo without the Governor knowing about it?

But you saw him on prison uniform.
What concerns ojukwu with a federal prisoner? Does buhari needs tambuwal approval before releasing dasuki? Was the federal prison under the control of ojukwu?
So you think the prison chief warder can release Awolowo, the leader of the Yorubas without the Governor of the region knowing about it? In a military regime? Not possible.

All the things you wrote up here is just based on speculations and you have not cited any credible sources to back your claim.

I released sources both video, pictures and papers from: New York Times, Reuters, Britishpathe, and Premium Times to back my claims that Gowon released Awolowo.

Can you please cite one credible source to back your claim that Ojukwu did instead?
You are actually the one being emotional, you most likely didn't read what I wrote dispassionately. Let me summarise, there was definitely a compromise or understanding between Gowon and Ojukwu for the release.

Almost all of your sources are the same, just brief statements. There is nothing really detailed to show us the mechanisms that can prove that a prisoner as important as Awo will be released without the military regional governor knowing about it. How is that even possible? In a military regime where one didn't recognise the other?
PoliticsRe: Youtube Video That Showed Gowon Released Chief. Awolowo From Prison In 1966 by joeyfire(m): 3:31pm On Nov 21, 2019
This video just shows Awo arriving in a car and shaking hands with Gowon. How does this prove anything undecided

This thing has been debated non-stop for years since Ojukwu said he was the one that released Awo. Unfortunately all the people (Gowon and co) who have been speaking contrary to Ojukwu's statement did not start talking about it until AFTER OJUKWU DIED... Gowon has also not written a book or memoirs for us to read and scrutinise.

My honest opinion is that the release of Awo would have been of huge PR benefit to Gowon/FG and Ojukwu. Yes Ojukwu did not recognise the government of Gowon but would have happily played along with the release if Gowon requested it and there was definitely no chance of Awo being released without Ojukwu's knowledge, it just doesn't work that way.

This is ridiculous grin Pls why did APGA not win in Lagos?

APC is a useless, tribal party that is dragging this country down fast! In almost every area from security, economy, national unity, human rights and corruption. This is not football banter of Arsenal vs Chelsea. There are consequences for our choices. Police commissioners and judges are kidnapped now on the road and Generals travel by train. You expect SE to accept such a party because it favours your tribal agenda?? Big joke forget it

He is a great man. A true believer and not a mercenary like so many of his peers. Even if what he believes in is fake he genuinely loves it.

If not for him there would have been atrocities against Igbos after the civil war and it would have led to guerilla war that might have lasted until today.

The 2023 battle for the seat of the President, federal republic of Nigeria is definitely on, with various interests and persons across the country already justling for the number one seat. One of such persons is a frontline politician and the current leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Alh Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Bola Tinubu is, by all standards, an astute politician who's political cunning, bravery, and sacrifice in the 2015 political calculations, led to the defeat of a sitting President and the constitution of the present APC led federal government.

What most people don't know about the leader of the APC is that he is a convicted drug peddler who had to forfeit a fortune to the United States of America on conviction of drug related charges and escaped prison through a plea bargain.

According our investigation, the United State's District Court, Eastern District of Illinois, Eastern Division ordered the forfeiture of funds belonging to Alh Bola Ahmed Tinubu, held in nine different accounts in First Heritage Bank, Citi Bank NA and Citi Bank Int'l, in a case docketed and dated October 5th, 1993 after he was convicted of Narcotics trafficking.

https://ikengachronicles.com/bola-tinubu-the-drug-dealer-who-wants-to-rule-nigeria/
Tinubu's criminal record is clear as daylight. But the truth is that many politicians have dirty linen somewhere hidden. My issue with him being president is that he is not a good administrator. Besides mobilising IGR in Lagos (no big achievement in a former FCT with 20 million people) he has no legacies for future generations to point at except MC Oluomo and the army of touts smoking weed all over the place. No infrastructure or transport systems. Absolutely nothing!

This caricature practiced in this sick country called Nigeria is not politics. Igbos have been doing democracy before the white man came. Others were doing ranka dede and baba sope. That's why we are so incompatible

Igbos are no longer Biafrans but Nigerians. They should be treated as such. This is why I support an Igbo presidency. Unfortunately, Igbos are not very good in politics. It would be beautiful if Igbos can get a Tinubu-like political figure. Igbos should send someone like Peter Obi to go and learn politics under Tinubu for like 5 years.
shocked Igbos are not good in politics but the first black senator in Italy is an Igbo man. His party is even right-wing and anti-immigration. Nigerian politics is designed to promote the most useless ones to relevance (orji uzor kalu and rochas) and keep the best far from power. If that's the type of politics that one Nigeria is all about then yes we are not good at that type.
