Travel / Re: My Flight Has A Stopover At Dublin, Do I Need A Transit Visa? by JogahBonito(m): 5:53pm On Jul 21, 2023
Yes, you do. I flew through Dublin earlier this month and I needed one. Sadly, I didn't have a transit visa but the immigration official was gracious enough to issue me a visa warning (usually a stamp on your passport) and allow me to fly onward to my destination. He said he would have sent me back if he wanted to treat me the same way he had done to others. So to avoid any complications, use another city/country as a stopover instead of Dublin.

elloso:
Hello fam.
I will be traveling to the UK soon (Scotland precisely) and I intend to book a flight (Turkish Airline) that has a stopover at Istanbul and Dublin.
Do I need a transit visa to go through Dublin?

Please I really need your reply 🙏

JogahBonito:

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Tuesday morning said that it stopped using the print-out currently being paraded by Anambra candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme as her authentic result in 2021.

The board also reiterated its position that the UTME result paraded by “Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma is patently fake.”

In a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday morning by the Board’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB insisted that only Mmesoma paraded the“obsolete” notification slip out of all the candidates that sat the 2023 UTME.

“Consequently, the Board would like to reassure Nigerians that its system was neither tampered with nor compromised as the candidate simply falsified a copy of a result slip of a candidate named “Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle,” who sat the UTME in 2021 and scored 138.

“It is also instructive to note that the candidate, in her statement, has inadvertently revealed the rightful owner of the result she is parading when she pointed out that the QR code on the result slip showed the actual owner of the said result before she peddled a lie in an attempt to obfuscate the truth.

“To witness the unassailable position of the Board regarding this obvious falsehood, the general public is, therefore, urged to endeavour to scan the QR code on the result slip to see its actual owner before it was mutilated. It is to be noted that the QR code encapsulates the UTME result of each candidate, hence, what is on the result sheet is nothing other than the interpretation of the information on this QR code.

“Furthermore, the public is also to note that the Board stopped issuing Notification of Result slips after the 2021 UTME for the simple reason that candidates were falsifying them. Consequently, the Board has been issuing actual UTME RESULT Slips (not notification of results ) since 2022 complete with the photograph of each candidate.

“Similarly, the public is also invited to ponder on the fact that out of all the candidates that sat the 2023 UTME, only Ms. Ejikeme Mmesoma parades the obsolete ‘Notification of Result.

“In the meantime, the management of the Board, after considering the weighty infraction committed by Ms. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, and in line with its established procedures, has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result and also barred her from sitting the Board’s examination for the next three years.”

Politics / Opinion - Nigeria Decides 2023 by JogahBonito(m): 2:54pm On Feb 18, 2023

Nigeria Decides 2023

As Nigerians head to the polls in a week’s time, as a concerned citizen and democratic hopeful, I feel it’s imperative for me to comment on the current economic, social and political circumstances in the nation and express my opinion on its possible effect on the electoral outcome.

Nigeria is presently in a delicate and dangerous situation and regardless of the outcome of the election, I do not expect a miracle or near-miracle in her fortunes in the coming month(s) or even years. In the pre-independence and early post-independence years, there was an aura of hope and expectation that abounded in the nation. This was soon cut off by the myriads of misdeeds of the military and political ruling class. Sad to say, Nigeria has experienced a continuous decline in her economy, security situation and national prosperity - the oil boom in the 1970s, as well as the administration of Olusegun Obasanjo, being two major exceptions to this negative (economic) trend. And even though Nigeria experienced some economic prosperity under Chief Obasanjo’s administration, the wanton disregard for the rule of law, political killings, lack of democratic tenets, widespread corruption and sharp electoral practices that characterized it badly marred his time in government.

Yar’adua and Goodluck Jonathan’s governments were mediocre and largely just ‘maintenance’ governments. On his part, Yar’adua, though good-hearted, was unable to rule well due to his failing health and ultimate death. He is, however, well remembered for acknowledging that the electoral process that produced him as president was flawed and for granting amnesty to the Niger Delta militants who, in my opinion, were fighting a just cause with an unjust means. Goodluck Jonathan, on the other hand, lacked the willpower to make any lasting and impactful change in the political circle which included his friends and foes alike. Nevertheless, he is credited for his stance on non-violence and immediate acceptance of defeat in the 2015 presidential election.

Buhari. Oh, Buhari! Hmmmn! I have often described Buhari as the greatest scam in Nigeria’s history. The people who packaged Buhari for Nigeria are experts in the art of craftiness and deceit. He was packaged as a transformed democrat. Democrat my foot! Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard its spots? Buhari has proven over and over that he hasn’t changed from the brutal dictator who ‘ruled’ Nigeria in the 1980s. His disregard for the sanctity of life, rule of law, tenets of democracy, separation of power, principle of fairness and equity are legendary. His brazen disobedience to court orders, nepotism, indifference and willful ignorance are second to none. Besides, he is very myopic and lacks the intellectual, social and emotional capacity to govern even a local government, let alone a nation. He does not comprehend simple economic principles but insists on having things his way regardless of the effect on the larger populace. The blame is not Buhari’s alone to share, but rather that of the supporters and enablers of his government who voted for and supported him from 2015 till date. His advisers and aides, who are mostly out to look out for themselves will soon be out of the most backward administration in Nigeria’s history. The most surprising and confounding for me amongst them is Femi Adesina who is supposedly a pastor. His commentary and comportment in the defense of this administration are devoid of logic, reasoning and intelligence.

I must also admit that I, like many other Nigerians, supported Buhari in 2015 (and even voted for him in 2011), having experienced Jonathan’s indecisiveness and lack of leadership but soon realized that Buhari was slow, clueless and inept. I publicly expressed my criticism of Buhari’s government and style and voiced my opposition to his re-election during the 2019 election cycle.

Having seen the harm that a bad presidential candidate and potential president can do, Nigerians should be more circumspect and thoughtful in their choice of a leader in the forthcoming election. Democracy offers everyone the freedom to choose without fear or favour. However, this freedom, like every other freedom, comes with moral responsibilities and attendant consequences. Although all four frontline contestants (Kwankwaso, Tinubu, Obi & Atiku) are qualified to be president, not all of them have the prerequisite character traits and ability to lead a diverse and divided nation teeming with young and vibrant people who are discontent with the bleak prospects the country currently boasts of. Moreover, Tinubu and Atiku have baggage from their past and present that will clog the wheel of Nigeria’s progress. In addition, they cannot truly transform a nation in need of intensive care caused by accumulated years of maladies of maladministration due to the obvious conflict of interests they will be contending with.

Many Nigerians vote for sentimental reasons, the most common being tribal and religious sentiments. Unfortunately, that has been the bane of our political emancipation as a people. We have been programmed and positioned by politicians to see ourselves as one when it benefits them and as separate when they’ll be advantaged by it. The earlier we realized that we either work together as a people for our greater good than resort to sentimental and myopic considerations in the election of our leaders, or we continuously suffer the effects of bad governance collectively, the better for us all. Indeed, not all sentimental considerations are bad, hence, for a balanced decision-making process, every sentiment should be weighed in the balance of fairness, equity, justice, integrity and verity.

As Buhari’s administration winds down, he intends to leave Nigerians with one fond memory of bequeathing us a free and fair election by “minimization the influence of money in politics”. While good-intentioned, the plan is not well thought-out and worse still, badly implemented. The scarcity of Naira notes and fuel has worsened the suffering of ordinary Nigerians more than that of politicians and has heated up the polity resulting in pockets of protests in some major cities across the country. Notwithstanding, the publicly visible ruckus within the ruling party is something worth celebrating. These cracks have shown that the President is not willing to play ball with some governors and politicians whom he perceives as ‘corrupt’ and is reminiscent of past situations when God causes confusion in the camp of the enemies for the advantage and ultimate victory of his people. Nigerians should just hang in there despite the hardship and refuse the temptation to resort to protests or even violence.

On this note, and having considered the history, qualities, character and present state of all frontline candidates, coupled with the fact that: i. No one from the eastern part of Nigeria has been president; ii. The outgoing president is of northern extraction; iii. One candidate has a record, that, though not perfect, towers higher than the others. He is someone who seems sincere, courteous, calm and able to steady Nigeria’s sinking ship, reverse some of the rot and effect desirable lasting changes over the course of at least one tenure. He is none but Mr. Peter Obi and I urge you, as you prepare to vote next Saturday to rethink your decision and re-evaluate your choice and reason for settling for whoever you have chosen before voting. God and your conscience will be the judges!

For about 5 years now I've been battling extreme tiredness . Asides that I sleep alot most especially at afternoons. At night, nonce I sleep around 11pm and not going to work the next day, I can wake up by 10am or 11 am.

During afternoon and night sleeps, the sleep is usually very deep (REM phase or whatever you medics call it, please correct me) and usually characterized by heavy dreams.

Even during work, I'll always take the risk to create some time to have a little sleep. I've been battling this for about 5 years now. What could be wrong.

From your comment, you seem to suffering from Sleep Apnea. It's a sleep condition in which breathing stops and starts repeatedly during your sleep. This means your body is not well rested hence the fatigue you feel. You would need to consult an experienced Doctor. However, before you see the doctor, here are some simple solutions you can try:

1. Lose weight.
2. Don't sleep on your back but on your sides or tummy.

Travel / Re: Which Country To Migrate To With N4 Million? by JogahBonito(m): 1:49pm On Jul 08, 2019
I haven't commented in Nairaland in a while but I decided to comment on your post because you sounded honest and my response will be useful for you and many other people reading this.

When planning to relocate, there are several important factors to consider. Some are:

1. Economic Opportunities
2. Social Acceptance/Integration
3. Medical Care/Health Insurance
4. Prospects of securing Permanent residence/Citizenship
5. Opportunities for additional income/side jobs/business

From my personal research, while Canada seems to be a choice destination for many people, it isn't as rosy as it seems. Applying for their permanent residence is a venture worth it, but your chances are lower if you are not married and don't have a postgraduate degree. If you are married and/or have a postgraduate degree, you may give it a shot. The advantages of moving to Canada is that you have a lot of Nigerians and if you connect with the right social circle you will find it easy to integrate. Also, there'll be mo language barrier as English is one of their official languages.

On the other hand, looking at Europe today, Germany is a preferred destination for most people. While the German government has approved a job-seekers visa for people to come to Germany to search for jobs for up to 6 months, I would advise against it because, of the uncertainties (What if you don't get a job?). Also, as a German speaking country, English-only jobs aren't as common as in Canada. Emigrating to Germany is easiest if you apply as a student -Either for Undergraduate or Postgraduate studies.

First, you won't have to spend your capital as schools in Germany are tuition-free. Second, students are allowed to work full-time for up to 6 months or part-time throughout the year. If, for example, you work part-time for 5 months with a company like Daimler, you will earn no less than €10,000. That's already more than 4 million Naira. However, you will have to brush up your German language skills before securing a job with Daimler. Several other companies employ students who don't speak German. But they pay an average of about €11 per hour (Depending on what part of Germany you are in).

And if you are not interested in schooling, you may decide to master the language and get a job with your previous qualifications. But this is quite difficult. By the way, if you are an IT expert, you don't even need to learn German. They'll employ you with English. Several IT experts are being employed directly from Nigeria.

Germany has many job opportunities but they lack professionals so they have been employing several people from outside Germany. In terms of health insurance, Germany has very good and affordable health insurance. There are better opportunities to do business by sending cars and other goods to Nigeria due to its proximity to Nigeria compared with Canada.

Also, with your student residence permit, you can travel to 28 countries and you may find opportunities in other neighbouring countries if you don't like Germany.

Securing permanent residence in Germany takes about 7 years of living and working in Germany. They check your income and your contribution to the social welfare scheme. It's faster in Canada though.

And eventually, if you don't like Germany, it's easier for you to relocate elsewhere from Germany than from Nigeria.

nb: I assumed that you are single and are planning just for yourself (If you're married 4 million naira may not be sufficient).

I feel sorry for Italians. This is shameful; you can protest civily but don't bring Nigerian mentality to a foreign country making you feel whole compared to Nigeria Zoo.

If you haven't seen protests that are worse than these in western countries let me burst your bubble. These German guys were burning cars of innocent people and clashed violently with police, not for any death or near-death experience, rather against the G20 meeting that held about 2 years ago.
It's unfortunate that we are quick to blame our fellow Nigerians at the slightest opportunity but fail to think deeply about the relationship between the action and the reaction. Also, will the Italian police do that if it were an Italian? Their protest, was very mild to say the least.

Can i pick Wednesday as traveling date... Hope that won't affect anything. I need una advice abeg.

Thanks in advance

No, it doesn't affect your chance. I got my mail on a Monday with the seven day clause too. I submitted on a Tuesday and wrote the next Sunday as my intended date of departure (which was less than seven days). I then politely requested from them, in the letter I wrote that I would prefer to pick it up myself. I got a mail the next day(wednesday) after I submitted my passport to come and collect my visa the next day (thursday)!

I hope you get me? You should write politely and explain the condition of things with respect to registration in your school. Submit the letter with your passport & insurance. You would be considered. Best wishes!

HI GUYS, YOU KNOW 9JA UNIVERSITY AND THEIR PROB, WANT TO STUDY MEDCINE, BUT OFFERED LABOURATORY SCIENCE, CAN I STILL GO FOR MY MASTERS IN GERMANY IN MEDCINE, AFTER MY BSC?

Dear Friend, be informed that your admission offer to study Medical Laboratory Science is not a bad thing at all. Medical Laboratory Science offers you the opportunity to specialize in many medically relevant fields at the postgraduate level such as: Molecular Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics, Haematology, Clinical Pathology, Virology, Immunology, etc. With further postgraduate training you can end up as a consultant, renown academic, accomplished researcher and a successful professional in your chosen career path.

As for the Masters in Medicine it is possible but it will be in a specific branch of medicine. There are quite a number of schools, though few where you can obtain it even though you're not a Medical Doctor. However the condition varies from school to school and country to country. You may check the following links and do more research yourself.

https://www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/international-programs/en/?p=l&q=medicine&degree[]=2&fos=0&fee[]=0&sortBy=1&page=1&display=list
http://msm.stanford.edu/

However, don't let your love for Medicine as a profession blind you to the possibilities and opportunities that Medical Laboratory Science affords you. Nowadays, the world is encouraging and embracing interdisciplinary research. Hence it is not rare to see a computer scientist, an engineer, a medical doctor and a sociologist working together on the same project. The Nigerian society, due to the low level of exposure and education rates one course above the other and as a result sets different cut-off points for them during admission. This in turn affects many of the young people in their decisions and aspirations. Find your passion and pursue it successfully. All the best.

I don't know anyone who has. However, since they requested it specifically, you should go to your secondary school and request for your transcript - your results from SS1 - 3. American schools usually request for high school transcript, this is the first time I'm seeing a German school do so. Also, they don't refer to your WAEC/NECO result because they requested for that separately (University Entrance Examination)

Is it not too late to just start processing of DB account preparatory to student visa application if resumption is 26th of September 2016 ?
Thanks in advance for your response.

No, it isn't. Book the next available slot for DB account opening that corresponds to when your bank statement will be available. As you step out of the consulate, scan the receipt and book an appointment. To make it faster, save your admission letter and the biodata page of your passport, all as pdf files, as a draft message in your email. Once you're done from the embassy, scan the receipt and add it to the other documents in that draft. Immediately send it to the email address written at the back of the receipt. You should get a response email. hopefully, before the end of that day. The earlier you initiate the process, the safer it is for you. Good luck.

I get your point Biglord. In fact, the Abuja embassy sent someone back who had the money in her account. They requested that the account should be in foreign currency and not in Naira. Also, when I was to open my DB account I didn't have my admission letter ready and the woman attending to me said that she wasn't gonna accept my application. I convinced her and when she finally agreed, she said DB may reject it and my money(4,500) would be wasted, I said, 'no problem, just send it'. After 2 weeks and 4 days, I got my DB account opening details. So, in essence, everything is up to DB.

Well thanks. created an account on ETS site already, me self no be novice na, was just trying to learn from those centers, i was about to pay the $180 via ETS site when i decided to find out from people who wrote it already.

It's way cheaper to pay 45k at those centres than to pay online yourself. When you do the conversion, you'll realize what I'm saying. I wrote TOEFL too and registered through B.Y Mafit Limited. They share the same building with MAN house at Ikeja. I had to come all the way from Ibadan because I didn't trust them initially. You can just go to their office if you stay in Lagos. They organize free classes and you'll do well on the exam if you study hard and make use of the materials they give you (They usually give free ebooks and applications). You should also watch youtube videos on TOEFL by NOTEFULL and some other online tutors and I can assure you that you're good to go. By the way, I had 110+ with just about 3 weeks of preparation. You can do better too! Good luck and God Bless.

Hi everyone, I want to find out about the following:
1. The implication of funding the blocked account before the interview. Is there any negative or positive implication?
2. The implication of funding above the blocked amount.

I will be very glad to get responses especially from the veterans. Thanks.

so I should write nigerian immigration?

Really, what you fill in there doesn't matter. However, the issuing authority on your passport it is. i.e. The city where your passport was done. Its written on the biodata page.
