OralBoy: 1. How do we show proof of funds at the POE? Can I pay USD into my DOM account and show them there? Or print bank statements and bring along with me? My brother is my sponsor and I used his account for the POF for my Visa. You can print bank statement, that would generally be considered the right thing to do. However, it's important to have a mobile bank app that contains the money, because when push comes to shove, na dat mobile app go suffice. 2. Should I open a GIC account instead and also use that as POF at POE? This is not required since I'd assume that you have already submitted your visa. If your brother can deposit the funds in your account then that would be fine, so all you would need to do is to show your balance on ur mobile app. |

Hello Guys, You don't get to read this quite often here, nevertheless, you may want to read this. For those who have gotten their PPR, congrats to y'all. For those who are yet to receive their PPR, you will get it. When coming to Canada, please get your shit together at the point of entry. Depending on the immigration officer that you will be meeting, they may be nice to you, while others will probably not be. Whatever tone they take with you, remain calm and answer to the best of your knowledge. Please know the answers to simple questions, such as "What course are you studying?", "What is the name of your school?", "What's the duration of your course of study?", "When will you graduate (month and year)?", "where will you stay (address)?" - They may decide to call your contact should you say you will be staying with a friend - If you said Airbnb, please keep your receipt ready. If you did GIC, I'd suggest you log onto their Portal with your phone and have access to your transactions - be ready to show it. As a JJC who is coming to Canada for the first time, please come with enough food items. Most airlines offer 23 x 2kg, so I'd suggest you have your clothing in one 23kg and food items in the other 23kg. No go pack cloth full everywhere, unless, of course, you carry better bar de come, otherwise na hunger go first kee u b4 cold and rent go use u play monkey post. Groceries cost o. Research abt Canada outlet (electric socket), if you ft get the appropriate adapter for Naija, I mean the one wey go match ur phone/laptop charger, carry am de come, e go save u a few dollars and waka around. As per accommodations, you do not need to get here first before before looking for a place to stay. You can start the arrangements from Naija. I find kijiji dot com more secure. But Facebook is even cheaper but dem get plenty scammers. You can sublet a room from a student who is going for a co-op (internship) and may want to lease their room for a period of 4 to 8 months. Subletting is generally cheap, although some of them do inflate the prices of those rooms, but as naija pikin, always negotiate! If you are using Facebook posts to look for accommodations, do not pay until you arrive in Canada, and with your two legs and eyes, see the room. Please don't fall for a housing scam! If you are in doubt, always ask questions. After getting your study permit at the Airport, ask a security person or a worker where you can get your Social Insurance Number (SIN). Remember to carry your luggage afterward. Get a USD/CAD prepaid card from your bank in Naija, deposit some funds into it, and come with it. Or you can buy CAD from Aboki and come with it (Remember to check for fakes). No go carry USD enter here and come de change am to CAD for airport, their exchange rate is horrible. Lyft (a rider app) is generally cheap (as compared to others) in my experience, you can download the app and book a ride to pick you up from the airport. There are also Uber and Airport Taxis, but I find them quite expensive. The Nigerian community here is pretty much not as strong as our Indian brothers, but you will get to meet Nigerians who are quite good (and I don't mean carrying your burden or catering to your needs). You will also get to meet those who are aloof. If you meet a naija brethren here on the first day, you may think they are "feeling too big" but don't worry, you guys may soon become buddies. Always reach out, you just never can tell. And don't worry, Nigerians de small for this country. Asians de run the streets, so no allow anybody tell you say pple dn full here, na lie, there's enough space for all of us. Depending on the Province wey u de enter, student work ft hard to get, especially in Ontario, you go suffer small oo, na y I de say, come with food (and money for rent, even if it for a few months b4 you find something doing) otherwise you might get discouraged, which may even lead to depression/break down. Remember, do not take your eyes off the price! I wish us success! And I wish us well! 29 Likes 5 Shares |

Euroadams: My first application was denied based on insufficient funds - the gcsm note I requested never got delivered so I couldn't narrow it down to the smaller missing details. Anyways, It was self-sponsored and since I had only paid 70% of my tuition, I then decided to complete my tuition fee in full in the second application. I also increased my miscellaneous funds from 5m in the first application to 8.1m in the second application. Additional I added the following documents: 1. Additional land ownership and a car ownership document 2. Pension Reg Certificate 3. Pension Statement 4. All current Contract Agreements (I am a tech freelancer) 5. Letter of Introduction 6. Past and present Employment Letters 7. Current contract Payslips 8. Tax Clearance certificate 1 Like |

Finally, Nairaland is back. PPR dn drop, finally guys! It dropped 30 minutes after my deferral request was approved. 😂 Timeline: Submitted application on October 18 Upfront medicals and biometrics had earlier been captured in my 1st application (This is my second application) No update or progress whatsoever on my dashboard until Dec 18, when I received PPR. Till now, eligibility is still in progress as with background check. Lol After I had done my findings, I came to the realization that there were number of things missing in my first application, and it had failed in a number of places so I decided to bring reinforcements on the second application. First application was self-sponsored, and the refusal was due to insufficient funds even though 70% sch fees was paid, 10k GIC, and 5m for other small stuff. I applied for gcsm note but didn't get any so I reapplied. For the second application, here are the documents I submitted: 1. Passport Data Page 2. Affidavit of Return 3. Certificate of State of Origin 4. Police Character Certificate 5. Certificate of Birth 6. E-medical information Sheet (Upfront medicals) 7. Statement of Purpose 8. Academic/Professional resume 9. Letter of Introduction 10. Professional certifications 11. Property ownership (land and a car) 12. Full tuition confirmation receipt 13. 10k GIC certificate 14. Mybank statement 15. Pension Reg Certificate 16. Pension Statement 17. Contract Agreements 18. Employment Letters 18. Payslips 19. Tax Clearance certificate 20. Acceptance Letter 21. Nysc Certificate 22. Degree Cert 23. Statement of results 24. Students transcript 25. Waec cert and testimonial I wanna thank y'all for your contributions on this platform, all of you! Y'all have such a great community. Didn't have to ask many questions because the questions were already asked and the answers provided accordingly, all I needed to do was to read through each page. 12 Likes |

Hi Gurus in the house, My resumption date is Jan 8, 2024, and I haven't even gotten any update from IRCC regarding my application. Heck, it still hasn't even started eligibility check despite biometrics and upfront medicals done (none of which have been updated so far). I submitted it on 18 of October and this is my 2nd application. Gotta get you guys advice/suggestions here. I am thinking of deferring to May 2024 if I don't get any response from IRCC by the end of the week. My question is should my school provide a new admission letter with a resumption date of May 2024, can I upload it as a webform to my existing application, would it be considered by the VOs? What would be the best course of action in my scenario? Abeg time no de again |

Hi all, I submitted my application mid October and my studies will resume 1st week of January 2024. When I track my application on the new portal, I see it hasn't changed a thing since I submitted despite having done upfront medicals and biometrics. This is my second application. I want to raise webform tomorrow. Is this a good move? 1 Like |

Immacbaby: Hey, Beginning of this year, the CBN mandated all form A applicants to include TCC clearance in their requests. The TCC clearance shows tax payment made in the last three years. So if you are using TCC clearance for form A this year, it must reflect payment made in 2020, 2021, and 2022. I remember paying for 2022 tax from my pocket just to get the clearance because my company hadn't filed for it at the time. Then Rehoboam became president and the process crashed overnight, at least for a while, and most people resorted to buying black market eventually. If you need one, you need to go to a tax office where you lived and speak to an officer on how to file it. The minimum that is acceptable (based on my knowledge here in lag) is 50k per year. Sorry you felt neglected, most people didn't give you a response because most of us used aboki fx to make payment |

Kenny4real68: Self sponsor is a crazy route to follow and I have had my share of the breakfast recently. These VOs shine their eyes once they see selfsponsor nowadays. My advise, complete your full tuition fee and do a GIC of at least 10k CAD. Have solid home ties, letter of introduction, landed properties, tax clearance, pension reference and statement, employment letter, affidavit of return, etc. I believe your closing balance will be sufficient afterwards. 1 Like 1 Share |
