Right now as we speak, there are people somewhere in this country boasting that we'll never have power.

On fuel scarcity, it was free for all to loot in the oil sector during the past administration. Under PMB, less people are handling the responsibility so it will take time to iron out supply and clear bottle necks in the system. The only good thing is that outrageous looting has been greatly reduced thus saving the Nation money to cope with the times. It will get better.

Investors leaving? Let them leave for now. We need to sanitize the Nigerian system. They'll be back when we sort ourselves out.

These people will pay good money to ensure that every gain in power generation is lost to vandalism...... irrespective of administration.
Please by now we shouldnt be talking about what the last administration looted. For all i care they are all propaganda cos no court of competent jurisdiction have found any guilty of looting. The truth is that we dont know the true position of things and i dont expect any right thinking person to take any thing from Apc at face value. What is even the differnce between Apc And Pdp? If we want to start talking about those that looted this country blind, Abacha's loot are still being repatriated almost 20years after.

Bro, the world is corrupt. You can never get rid of corruption. Nigeria's major problem is purposeful leadership and not corruption. Personally i wont mind if the govt in the past had used our common wealth to develop power and own stakes in the companies that manages it. And i know alot of Nigerians are with me on this.

Queues at gas stations are due to two things

1.Refusal to remove the subsidy...which makes it difficult for markerters to import fuel (and which is why many of them engage in the scam of writing fake invoices for oil they did not import....it is the only way to make cash).

2.Refusal to build more refineries. We need more refineries because even if all our current ones were working at full capacity, we still need at most 40 million liters of refined fuel to meet demand. That is why we are importing fuel in the first place.(Dangote is building one refinery)

As for our economy, Nigeria is oil dependent. When times are good....we import, imports are cheap, and we have dollars to buffer the naira. When times are bad...we can no longer import, the value of the naira falls because we do not have dollars to keep it buffered and prices rise.
Still back to leadership.
For the the refineries, its on record that even the biafran led govt by Ojukwu refined its own fuel during the war. And till date we still hear about illegal refineries all across the niger delta region. My point is, a good leader will look into the operations of this local refineries and bring in capable hands to make it mini refineries and issue licences to the operators. Since we dont have dollars to import this is what we cant achieve and people will be employed.

For the economy, are you aware that the agricultural sector contributes more to our GDP that oil? And what has the current govt done? Even with this obvious fact, the current govt reduced the funding for the sector from 1.6% under GEJ to 0.48% according to 2016 budget.

Funny enough, most of the hardship they complain about is as a result of dwindling oil prices and the unwillingness of past administrations to save.

Buhari took over Nigeria at its worst period......... but a lot of people are too shallow to see the big picture.
I beg to disagree. The drop in power generation and the fuel scarcity that is bitting hard on us cant be attributed to the dwindling oil price. Since 2011, the oil sector has been experiencing negative growth. The major challenge we are faced with is lack of purposeful leadership. Last year alone about #2.2trillion of foreign investment portfolio left our economy simply as a result of lack of policy direction.

I reckon things are bad because the oil price is low. If it was high, we would be saying that things are goood.

The problem is, Nigerians do not want the hard sacrifice needed to develop an economy that is not dependent on oil. And yes, that includes APC and their supporters.

All I would say is that if I was head of state....I would spend more on power, rail, education and health. And leave every other sector to search for money. I would also remove subsides and raise taxes, and sack excess civil servants. And bring in very tight forex restrictions, and end imports...except for vital raw materials.

People would call me harsh, there would be some years of harsh suffering, and I might get voted out, but Nigeria needs harsh therapy to break away from oil dependency. PDP never did it,APC is just waiting for oil prices to rise again so that the good times can start again. Abeg....me I think that we should stop deceiving ourselves.
Bro, the problem facing us now is really not about the fall in oil price. The petroleum sector has been experiencing negative growth since 2011. The major problem is purposeful leadership. For instance, We dont need the price of a barrel of oil to be $200 before we can reduce the queues at our gas stations.

That is where you missed it. Did you hear from Lai mohammed that the economy is out of the president's control? and a president that is proud to say that his children are schooling in the uk because he can afford cannot be taken seriously. Mr man we committed a bigger blunder electing a very unpatroitic elder stateman as a president. This is a man that never for once attended state council meeting before he was elected last year because his personal ambition was more important.

There is no leader that takes tough decisions that would remain popular. Human beings were created free and they want to remain unhindered and enjoy soft living and luxury. Most fathers are not popular with their children because they can't give such children all the freedom they want. Those who want government to pay for fuel not imported and for government to go to CBN and take dollars and distribute to indolent population would wait longer. No leader who manages the economy at the peak of economic challenges will be popular. Obama was not popular at the height of American economic difficulties.
So in otherwords, can you enlighten us on the tough decisions he has taken so far?

PoliticsRe: My Experience Today At A Filling Station by Johnrake69: 12:05pm On Mar 10, 2016
Just #200 and you're complaining. A week ago, I boarded an Okeyson bus going to Enugu, and the driver had to stop at Forte filling station at sangamu to buy fuel. We were on queue for about an hour and when it finally got to our turn, the fuel attendant demanded that we pay #500 as bribe before selling for us. And the driver agreed but, that was not enough, he still demanded for another #500 bribe to sell for us in the Jerry can. It was terrible. The driver said over his dead body will he pay extra #500 and that he will fight it till we get to the police station or possibly the army barracks. Meanwhile per liter was #100 and not too long the all the whole tout in the area started coming out to support the fuel attendant, it was an eyesore. Even the manager came out to support the fuel attendant. Gradually the place became crowded and the manager now collected the #500 for the bus and we left without paying the extra #500.

The govt should just deregulate the downstream and give licence to the local refiners. That is the only way to solve this problem. We can't have oil and be going through all this.

FamilyRe: As A Husband, Or Wife, Who Will You Make Your Next Of Kin by Johnrake69: 9:27am On Mar 08, 2016
ojuolu:
My wife is my next of kin.
And our first son is her next of kin.
We are both his legal guardian.
The reason behind this arrangement is this. I am a man, statistics have it that our life expectancy is shorter compared to that of the opposite sex. My thinking is that if i pass on at anytime, she would be able to take care of the home. If we both pass on Our son will be the next of Kin by default because the direct next of kin for me is no more. If she pass on, my son is her next of kin and i am still the legal guardian. In any case, my prayer is to go before her, albeit in old age, fully ripe... grin.
So there is no controversy. I love her and i believe she will be responsible enough to take care of things after me. She also love her kids so much that i know she will protect them with the last drop of her blood.
My position may look somehow, but that is the structure that i want and is now in place.
My brother just make a will. Cos your next of kin cant have access to your estate without a will or letter of administration from the probate office. And going through probate means the government will own a significant portion of your estate And not to talk of the stress your family will go through.

I am my husbands next of kin, my first daughter is mine, her younger brother is hers and his younger sister is his.

That was how my father planned ours also. Dad> mom>me>younger sis> etc.
Your next of kin is not your beneficiary. Most people confuse the two. Working in financial services really made it clear for me. Your next of kin should be the person to reachout to in your absence. Your next of kin cant gain access to your bank account or investment without a will or letter of administration from the probate office. And its advisable that young adults make their parants or an elderly relation their next of kin And not their sibling.
