NewNigeriaMind:Amen ooo... Life is for the living. How are you doing? |
NewNigeriaMind:Bro please am really not into this tribe of a thing. My family though from south south have strong ties with the yorubas through marriage. And as far as am concerned we are one. And that aside, how was Gowon able to release him? There was a coup remember? Which was not witnessed in the east cos Ojukwu still remained the governor of the eastern region. This was what Ojukwu had to say in an interview : "We’ve said this over and over again, so many times, and people don’t understand; they don’t want to actually. If you remember, I released Awolowo from jail. Even that, some people are beginning to contest as well. Awo was in jail in Calabar. Gowon knows and the whole of the federal establishment knows that at no point was Gowon in charge of the East. The East took orders from me. Now, how could Gowon have released Awolowo who was in Calabar? Because of the fact that I released him, it created quite a lot of rapport between Awo and myself and I know that before he went back to Ikenne, I set up a hotline between Ikenne and my bedroom in Enugu. He tried like an elder statesman to find a solution. Awolowo is a funny one. Don’t forget that the political purpose of the coup, the Ifeajuna coup that began all this, was to hand power over to Awo." |
OROSUNBOLB:So you seriously believe Gowon gave the order and Ojukwu obeyed knowing fully well that one of the reasons for the civil war, was Ojukwu's refusal to recognise Gowon as the head of states? Or your not aware that Ojukwu was in charge of the east that included calabar? |
Not surprised. ![]() |
NewNigeriaMind:Well, we all have the right to believe whatever we want. And please Awo was a politician and was found guilty of treason, so a man of his caliber could have said anything to please anybody. And please for your information, there was nothing like federal establishment taking orders directly from the head of States. Every institution was under the control of the regional heads and that was why Awo achieved so much for the west. And to think that Ojukwu took orders from Gowon for the release of Awo really defies logic. |
NewNigeriaMind:This issue is simple. One of the reasons for the civil war was Ojukwu's refusal to take orders from Gowon and at no point did Ojukwu ever take orders from Gowon. All the institutions in the east took orders from Ojukwu and if you search further you will find out that the coup that oustered Ironsi's led govt signified an end to Nigeria at the time. It is clear from records that Ojukwu was in charge of the east. So I wonder how Gowon released Awo when Ojukwu never recognised him as the head of state, and without Ojukwu's authority, Awo would have been remained in prison till after the civil war. For the resignation letter written by Awo himself, I will say he was just being economical with the truth. What he wrote in his diary was different from what he said in the letter. He was a politician for Godsake. |
Luukasz:Gowon never issued any order in respect to Awo' s release. The order was issued by Ironsi before he was murdered and mind you Ojukwu who controlled the Eastern region was not bound by that. Ojukwu was in a position to keep Awo in prison till after the civil war. |
NewNigeriaMind:Bro if your not aware, Awo was held in calabar prison the region controlled by Ojukwu. The first political move ojukwu made was to release Awo with the understanding that Awo will announce the succession of the Yorubas same time Ojukwu will be making the pronouncement for Biafra. I don't get into the tribe shit cos I have lots of Yoruba in laws that I will give anything to ensure no harm comes to them. Its just history. |
OROSUNBOLB:Really? Gowon released Awo from calabar prison. The same region controlled by Ojukwu. Please go back and check again. Ojukwu released Awo from prison with the understanding that Awo will announce the succession of the Yorubas, the same time Ojukwu will be making the same pronouncement for Biafra. |
NewNigeriaMind:So who released Awo from prison? |
bushdoc9919:Well, won't really condemn anyone for blaming the Buhari led govt for recent happenings, because of the kind of opposition they played. They were never interested in proffering any solution to the problem, for them it was a time to gain cheap political points and today the problem has worsened. 9/11 happened, there was no buck passing among the two political parties in the united states. Until we all see the boko haram insurgency as a threat to the Nigerian populace and humanity in general, the end to this menace is not insight. |
bushdoc9919:Wow! wow!! wow!!!... What kind of myopic analysis was that? Does it really matter where a bomb goes off? the issue at hand is that rate of bombing has increased in nigeria within the first three weeks of this administrationion, and your happy to explain it away with your dumb analysis. Terrible! |

bara22:To impeach the Senate President the constitutional requirement is 2/3 of the members. APC can't impeach Saraki without PDP endorsing it. The party should just forget it and move on. |
omenka:Saraki simply left pdp because of his rebellious character. He has no allegience, his loyalty is to himself and the apc gladly accepted him out of desperation. And as they say a leopard never changes it spots. And again were you expecting pdp to obey apc leadership's directive as regards the choice of candidate? . Am glad that our democracy is growing and I hope the 8th assembly won't be business as usual cos the masses are now aware politically. Lets keep party affiliation aside and hold those we have now chosen to pilot the affairs of this great nation acountable to every word they utter and every action they take. Enough is enough. Peace my brother. |
shegsky:I really don't blame her the positioning of other attacking players anytime she is with the ball is just pathetic. One was running to the corner instead of making her way into the box. . the falcons need a foreign coach. |
ThisMeansWAR:Seriously we need a foreign coach for this team. With all the flair we still can't score goals at the world cup. |
coldFLARES1:Bro your too sentimental. I believe your part of those Nigerians that usually calls for the head of GEJ when any member of his cabinet do err buh your eager to praise the individual that performs. to start with, who appointed Jega? smh... Boko haram should better not stop bombing cos if they stop, then we have to ask the president elect and apc some questions. |
BodyKiss:Sorry are you insinuating that the youths of today are the cause of what we are experiencing at this present time? |
ismyheal75:Am not sure you have an idea of what your talking about. let's face it, Inec were never ready for the elections. Have you been to any local government to see the crowd waiting to get their PVC? more than 45% of registered voters are yet to get theirs and you want the elections to go on. |
tit:What did you expect? Abacha was his boss |
the United States has taken control of more than $480m looted by former military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha, and his associates after a court ruling, the Justice Department said on Thursday. The money stolen during Abacha’s 1993-1998 de facto presidency and stashed in banks around the world will be returned to the Nigerian government, the department said in a statement. “Rather than serve his county, General Abacha used his public office in Nigeria to loot millions of dollars, engaging in brazen acts of kleptocracy,” Assistant Attorney General, Leslie Caldwell, said in the statement. Reuters reported that the US District Judge, John Bates, ordered on Wednesday that the funds, frozen by the Justice Department in March, be forfeited to US control. The judgment includes about $303m in two bank accounts in the British offshore centre of Jersey and $144m in two bank accounts in France. Three accounts in the United Kingdom and Ireland hold at least $27m, the statement said. Claims to another $148m in four investment portfolios in the UK are pending. Abacha, who took power in a coup, died in 1998. Nigeria has been fighting for years to recover his money, but companies linked to the Abacha family have gone to court to prevent repatriation. Between $3bn and $5bn of public money was looted during Abacha’s regime, according to Transparency International. The Justice Department suit filed in November 2013 saying that Abacha, his son Mohammed; their associate, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and others embezzled, misappropriated and extorted money from the Nigerian government. They laundered funds by buying bonds backed by the US, using US financial institutions, prosecutors said. The assets were held in banks that included Deutsche Bank AG, HSBC Holdings Plc and Banque SBA, according to the lawsuit. In June, after a 16-year legal battle, Nigeria recovered from Liechtenstein $228m stolen by Abacha and his associates. As of last year, Nigeria had recovered about $1.3bn of Abacha’s money from various European jurisdictions. Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/us-takes-control-of-480m-abacha-loot/ |

If you can't find your TVC or you don't have one, take two (2) passport photographs with you and get (re)registered. It's that easy! |
Thirty one years after his government sponsored the failed abduction and illegal deportation of the erstwhile influential Minister of Transport Alhaji Umaru Dikko via a cargo crate, General Muhammadu Buhari’s proposed attempt to return to the United Kingdom as part of his global campaign circuit, received a major setback recently as most major UK and European based institutions have turned down his request for visitation. Investigations indicate that the Buhari Campaign team has received a sour reception from some institutions Government and non-government organizations. A source in the know revealed that a consultant working for the campaign approached the Chatam House, the House of Commons, members of the EU, as well as top advocacy groups, policy makers and public opinion molders. Further investigation indicates that the rejection is not unconnected with the poor human rights record of General Muhammadu Buhari during his reign as military head of state of Nigeria. The APC’s Presidential candidate’s perceived link with extremist Islamic organizations as well as his propensity to instigate electoral violence did not help his case. The U.K Foreign Office’s most recent annual report on human rights and democracy said the country will reject any ties with known despots and human rights violators. It condemned “The use of unlawful and arbitrary measures to target human rights defenders including enforced disappearance; house arrest; restrictions on freedom of movement, communication and association; extrajudicial detention and harassment of family members by both past and current leaders across the globe”. However it was gathered that top APC wigs are puling all strings to seek alternative platform for the ex-military dictator. But some human rights groups are mulling the idea of instituting process that could lead to the arrest of the former dictator to answer charges on the botched extra-judicial deportation of the late Umaru Dikko. Buhari could be charged under the popular United Kingdom Common law which carries a maximum life sentence for ordering the kidnap and barbaric deportation of Dikko a move which sparked a major diplomatic row between Nigeria and the UK.
