The igbos have the right to choose where and what they want to be, simply put, human right!, i just dont think the solution lies in division, but if they think they will be better being left alone then so be it.
The fear is that in another 50yrs time, the niger delta (if they go with the igbos) will definately want to divide too and thats how the disintegration will continue.

The psuedo-sideline of the igbos from the nigerian political power is due to the injuries caused by some loyal nigerian soldiers with good intent that ended the wrong way, that wound will heal it only needs time and good leadership from the igbo people,

This is a tot provocating write up by a friend and i think its worth sharing.

Imbued by a sense of belonging or patriotism ,if you like, as we approach slowly but surely, the 49th anniversary of attaining independence as a nation, I was impelled to read a few of what I have of Nigeria’s historical collection in my library. What I found, as a matter-of-course, was not only despair as I am wont to but also a heightened sense of concern as to the turn events are taking on the global scale and the minuteness of the niche Nigeria occupies in the galaxy of these cosmic realities.

It is very sad to watch helplessly as our dear Nigeria grow less and less in relevance on the global stage as nothing - not the economy, not infrastructural development, not the education sector, not even SPORTS - seems to work anymore.

Most disheartening is the fact that Nigeria finds it hard to rise above native concerns - concerns which could perfectly be summed up as having their roots cloaked in corruption. No wonder Trevor Clark wrote of his contemporary (1950s) Nigerian politicians in one of the most detailed biographies ever written (A Right Honorable Gentleman) while comparing them with their European colleagues:



“ …their peers in countries like Nigeria cared little for ‘planet Earth or ‘global village’, and were preoccupied with the avenues to political power. They did not suppose that the origins of human miseries were the same in both developed and underdeveloped countries, nor that human well-being was not solely dependent on the standard of living. They did not yet sense that they could afford the emotional thrill of being givers…”



With the wide spread of terminal diseases like CANCER and AIDS and the immense calamity waiting to befall humanity – global warming and Nuclear warfare ,to mention but a few, and with both Nigeria and the USA losing great national figures in Gani Fawehinmi and Ted Kennedy respectively over the past few months to CANCER, hitting across the great divides of developed and underdeveloped countries: we cannot but agree with Trevor Clark’s assertion about origin of human miseries being same in both worlds.

I hope our current politicians will take a detour from the ideas – ideas which have not hitherto worked for us - of their forebears and look at political offices not as an opportunity for self aggrandizement but with a genuineness of purpose - to serve the people.



While we grapple with our multifarious problems, it is noteworthy that South Africa has finally found a place in the clique of advanced nations as the G7 transformed into G20 to accommodate emerging economies like China, India , South-Africa etc . due to the very vital role their economies played – and is still playing - in bailing out the world from the recent global economic recession. What this portends for Nigeria is that our population, landmass, oil wealth and sundry other mineral resources count for nothing when it comes to the paramountcy of global concerns.

Coming back to the problems at the home-front, our woes continue to increase without any sign of respite in sight. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has refused to go back to classes unless the Federal Government addresses the issues of infrastructural decay in the universities which has caused the standard of education to dwindle over the years. Several attempts to broker peace in the conflict has met stiff resistance from ASUU, who believes that FG has reneged on several promises in the past and so demand a strong level of commitment this time around. The bad side to all these is that the students have been out of school for more than 3 months. Even the much acclaimed Amnesty Package has been fraught with elements of CORRUPTION as the promised monthly allowance has yet to be disbursed as militants threaten renewed attacks on the nation’s oil facilities while the growing mass of graduates turned out from our universities find it difficult to secure jobs

Such is how deep we have plunged into the abyss of corruption.



So numerous are our other problems that attempting a discussion on them here will amount to re-inventing the wheel. We need to have a rethink and make a spirited effort to steering the nation back on the right track; perhaps we’ll have a different story to tell when we gather to celebrate our golden Jubilee of independent nationhood even as the charabanc accelerates further downhill.

When the whole world is trying to go civilised, this onovo man is taking us back to pre-democracy era. How you ask for right to shoot pple at public places, instead of looking for ways to solve the problem he wants to add to it.

the argument is simple, daddy RCCG should begin to touch the lives of his flocks not only by giving them false hope aka spiriual help, we should start seeing the impact of his teaching in the live of every common redeemer,

This country does not need "men of God using space shuttle of private jets" now when their followers are languishing in hunger and helplessness, we need Men that would do what they preach and show it by examples too.

How will it sound if daddy RCCG asks those member of club70 and club 10 or what to start sponsoring less priviledge students to school, the orphanages and the rest questions as raised below.

How come God is only "demanding" and "wanting" money?

1. When will God demand that 1,000 poor RCCG members with diabetes be given insulin treatment?
2. When will God demand that 1,000 poor RCCG couples who cannot afford a lavish wedding a la RCCG, will be wedded without much fanfare?
3. When will God demand that 1,000 unemployed RCCG youths be given jobs?
4. When will God demand that 1,000 poor RCCG members who have defaulted in paying their rents be given money to pay at least one-year of rent to prevent them being homeless?
5. When will God demand that 1,000 poor RCCG members in police detention be afforded lawyers to expedite their cases and return to freedom?

I would like to suggest that we remove sentiments from this but the truth is that religion is synonymous to sentiments, its difficult to see through the sheild religion.

Do you beleive the numbers you posted is the actual reflection of what we have out there in the soceity? if so i take that clause back but if not then we have to find the gap  and bridge it.

Another thing i will want you to acknowledge is that 90% of 50 is far less than 50% of 200 and thats why i dont like percantage in maths, it doesn't give the true reflection of numbers in their whole sense. (thats y the banks use them to confuse us the more: apology to my banker folks).

Then lastly, everything i said is not just from the outside, especially when it comes to education, ND is my Alma-mata, thats the place i call "home" whenever i use that word. Everything my dad has is there. so pardon me if you dont like my choice of words.

Joseph Harry, who spoke on behalf of the group at a press conference held in Abuja, expressed the readiness of all the “generals and commanders” under the Tompolo’s command to embrace the amnesty with a condition of government’s readiness to buy-back their weapons, provision of accommodation and allocate some shut-in oil wells to them among other demands.

This is why i beleive this MEND (maybe this faction) is not fighting for the emancipation of ND but for their criminal minds, this particular guys are as good as our leaders when it comes to corruption except they are on the other side of the number line. of what use will the oil well they are demanding for be to the ND at large, instead of clamouring that all oil field should be taken over by govt they are fighting for their personal oil wells. do they intend using the money accrued from the oil for the development of ND themselves?

My fear is that they will only ridicule this strugle, they are all going to get their money, sell the ND indigenes for couple of oil wells and leave the unborn ND youth to came a start the fight again next 25yrs and the cycle will continue.

I personally beleive that the ND strugle is needed, ND needs to be developed, ND youths need to be educated not begged to be educated, ND youths needs to be more serious than what these their present frontiers are fighting for. (personal oil wells imagine).lol

I also beleive that this struggle could be holistic in nature, Let MEND collabo with other bodies (maybe ethno-tribal or not) and fight for the whole good governace of nigeria because that is what i think is more important. cos if we have good governance, ND issue will not be there in the first place.
What we need as a nation is the holistic struggle for the emancipation of Nigeria from the few corrupt elites among us that cross across the nation. That way we will solve the problem once and for all. I beleive in this country and its oneness.

The question might arise, Is it his responsibilty to know if they stole it or not? Daddy is not God to know if the wealth is ill-gotten or not but he his aware of how the nigerian tresury is being looted and i am so sure he has a good guess of who and who are running this govt, affairs. he can start helping this country by dissociating himself from politicians and public office holder that will be blessing him with the nation's money.

I am less concern if this guy is anyone's hero or not even though the Isaac boro Park( named after him in Port harcourt) is where i find myself growing up. but the truth is that he made an impact maybe positive or negative.

What really touched me is that he made his impact at quite a young age (mid 20s to early 30s) trying to make nigeria great in his own best definition and thats why could be discussing about him being a hero or not using 9 pages in this particular thread.
The question i think we should be asking ourselves is how can we make an impact in this nation positively in what we strongly beleive in. Most of us replying to this thread are in the age group he was when making this gaint strides of his.

I think this is a challenge on we the Nigerian youth of today to make bold moves in what we beleive in especially good governance. Just think abt it.

i dont like the idea of bringing back the colonials masters cos it doesn't mean progress, i, like every nigeria,  want to move ahead and progress forward  except that our leaders have failed woefully in their responsibilities and i wont lie, we the followers too have failed in our duties too as followers.

How many of us can boast of doing things the right way?
how many us do not give bribe when caught in the corner?
how many of us drive like we sane on the street?
how many of us pay our taxes?

Pls let nobody give me the rhetoric that the system is bad, we all know that. but i think we can turn the issue the other way round- we the followers.

I think we should start teaching our leaders by our own actions and maturity, we should start  exemplfying those qualities we want from our leaders at our various communities, we should start doing things the right way and reminding ourselves and neighbors to do the right things too.
we are all guilty and we all will have to make things right by taking responsiblity and act in the right direction.
 
I can bet it, there will be no JESUS or MUHAMMED that will be sent down to help and pls dont expect any cos we are the ones to make it right.

its sad that the libyan govt would be taking this strong stand on this case. at least they should have deported them back to their countries and charge their various govt for the deportation fares.

Sometimes i wonder which is better, being ruled by our colonial masters but we have good roads, education, electricity, water and so on but they will pack all our money and resources to their countries or being ruled by ourselves with no road, education, water, electricity, food and all the rest and our leaders still carry our money to our colonial masters countries.
Since both options involves stealling our money and taking it out of the country at the end, i am begining to think calling the colonial masters back won't be a bad idea, what do you think?

How much investment has MEND, the governor, commissioner for investment brought into the states in the area? What do they do with their allocation? PLEASE!!! PLEASE!!! SHINE YOUR EYE!!!!

It is easy to go to Abuja and demand Royalties, but what have you own people in government done for you?

First deal with your own people and then we will know that you are serious.

OBJ was the one who knew how to deal with you guys (even though I am not a fan of OBJ).

Government needs to develop the Niger Delta but not with a gun held to it head or having to first pay some hoodlum’s called MEND money.

Please put sentiments aside before replying me there is a problem within and not from the federal government. We agree the federal government has it own blames but the people you guys should be fighting should be MEND because they are having a free lunch off the back of law abiding citizens.

1. The FG has raped your father land over and over again, they've done same to the whole of Nigeria.
2. Your leaders have continued betraying you as well no doubt about that.

I personally support fiscal federalism but i am also certain that like all other policies in this country it will still not work (think i'm a perssimist?), what fiscal federalism will only do to the ND will only be to direct the fight from the FG to the state govt if at all there will be any fight at all cos the money will just be shared and the case will be worst.
Sincerely, i dont know who the ND militants think will be governing them when they own all the resources, is it not the clark, alams, timi alaibe, odili, spiff and co that will still be your leaders/?

I will suggest that the FG declare all ND state as federal land without governors and set in motion actions to develop this region probably over a period of 10yrs then hand it over to back to them through a democratic process, maybe they would have learnt to govern themselves. then we can start talking abt fiscal fedralism.

The amount that the Delta, bayelsa and rivers state are collecting every month without sentiments is enough to turn those states to Paris but like it is in the whole of Nigeria, they are just pocketing it.

Please let me give you what is happening in Brass, in beyelsa, AGIP runs the whole town, the road, light, water and even food, the king of this town is HRM Alfred Diette spiff, former gov of old Rivers State, chairman of Japaul OIl and then 2005, the Chairman of that local Govt was his Younger brother, this brass (very small island not more than the whole of ikeja) gets above to 200 Million Naira as of 2005 and you know what they do? they come at the end of the month, share #7500 ( min wage then) to all the youths in their party and the rest of it is gone.
Common pure water factory they dont have, they keep complaining that the water is bad even if they dig bore hole but it is the same bore hole that AGIP dug to feed them water, HRM with all his exposure cannot even put one single cybercafe in that town, they still want yaradua to come from abuja to come and fix business center there for them. This is just a reflection of what we have in the whole of the ND region.

The solution which i am sure the ND leaders will not like is that the federal govt shld dissolve all your leaders so that they can transform your region to the likes of abuja as you have always wanted.

we have been allowing criminals to parade themselves as militants and i think its time we eradicate them, cos if u nogiate with them we will be setting precedence.i also subscribe to using covert military operations to wipe these crimals out.

This militants are something else, even if the FG give all the oil blocks to them they will still be carrying guns then that they abadoned them cos they wont know what to do.

I went to warri recently couple of weeks back, i made a pathetic observation, pls anyone in the house shld pls correct me. "the numbers of hotels in warri are far more than the numbers of schools in warri"

The question that came to my mind is that, these militants can build hotels for themselves but waiting for the FG to come and build schools, the truth is that they still wont go. pls FG should go and build the new proposed Oil & Gas University in OGUN state abeg for those that want to
