i still believe Nigerian problems will continue to linger on until we start looking at things from the right perspective,
the poster is making me to think that the yorubas and hausas are the ones governing Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu and othe SE states.

what difference did the igbo governors in their respective states make. Abeg, ok, tell me they are the bad igbos, right?

Our problem with leadership will continue in this current state until we remove tribal appellations from it. I dont think the tribe of the leader will help in solving our problems.

Surely, there is an intrinsic trust issue when it comes to the "igbo tribe" but i believe just like all wounds, it will heal with time.
the challenge is for us to build leaders within ourselves that will be ready for tomorrow irrespective of their tribes and religion.

Really, i am surprise with the level of hatred shown on this thread.

First of all, i dont know if the igbo people on NL are different from my igbo friends out there, if they are, i will be very happy, if they are not i will start being careful cos my igbo friends out there and at work are marvellous set of people like everyone else and they have never felt insecure or complex about any thing.

I think the only set of people that lost the civil war are the NIGERIANS, everybody that died could have helped in one way or the other to build this country.

Lastly, to all my igbo folks on NL, you are not going to gain other tribes sympathy or adoration by trying to put up tribe-sensitive or tribe-centric issues here all the time. infact you are only going to make the distrust worse. ask yourselves do you want to solve the problems we have or do you want to add to it. topics like this only add to our tribal problems.

The past is for us to learn from and make corrections but what my igbo folks are doing here is like holding on to the past like their future.

This is the only presidential candidate that has "seemingly" an idea of what it takes to be a president.- My words



When he was in charge of the anti-corruption agency, he did a thorough job, incurring the wrath of many dubious people, including those in high places. For this reason, he was removed unceremoniously by the administration of the late Umaru Yar’Adua. It happened this way. Mike Okiro, former Inspector-General of Police, announced in December 2007, that Ribadu be temporarily removed from the position of EFCC chairman so that he could pursue a one-year course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, in Kuru, Jos, Plateau State. Many people saw it as a roundabout way of giving the anti-corruption czar the boot. They were proved right when he was actually dismissed on 22 December 2007 from the Nigeria Police by the Police Service Commission, PSC. Before then, the Yar’Adua government had demoted him from the rank of Assistant Inspector-General to Deputy Inspector-General. Yet, his enemies were not satisfied; they made attempts on his life thrice, but he escaped all and left these shores in April 2009 for a Fellowship at the Centre for Global Development.
He returned to Nigeria in 2010 to pursue what he loves most: public service. It is, however, not through appointment but elective office as president of Nigeria.
Ribadu obtained a degree in law at the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, Kaduna State in 1983. He was called to the Bar a year later, after attending the Nigerian Law School. After this, he obtained a Master of Laws degree also from ABU. A Ted Fellow, Ribadu is also a Senior Fellow in St. Anthony’s College, Oxford University, United Kingdom.
Apart from issuing thousands of indictments, Ribadu achieved over 250 convictions, one of which was that of Tafa Balogun, one-time Inspector-General of Police.
Under Ribadu as EFCC boss, Nigeria was delisted from the Financial Action Task Force, FATF, non-cooperative countries and territories. Under him, apart from Nigeria being admitted into the Financial Intelligence Egmont Group, the US withdrew its US Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, FINCEN, Advisory on the country. For his efforts, Ribadu received the World Bank’s Jit Gill Memorial Award for Outstanding Public Service, in 2008.
Ribadu’s honesty is legendary. He once rejected a $15 million bribe from former Delta State governor, James Ibori who was being probed for corruption. When he was appointed EFCC boss, Ribadu was worth N27.94 million. His properties included 187 cows, worth N7.5 million; a $.5 million building in Yola; land worth N10 million in Abuja; a N2 million Honda Accord and a N2.3 million Honda CRV. His local bank accounts contained N1.6 million while he had £200 cash in a London bank. But when he was leaving office in 2008, he had only N26.59!

Nigeria governance solutions lies in a systematic (positive) one man rule approach. i know the question is who is that man (which i cant answer now). a leader that will guide us out of this phase of corruption and after then we can return to democracy after a while. such a leader doesn't come through the ballot. it comes through revolution.
Ojukwu could have been one, but he was very myopic, greedy and parochial in his approach.
the yorubas are too scared of leading such movement but i think tinubu (though far from being a saint) is leading ACN in the right direction.

Lets wait and see how our votes will be treated this 2011,

Being the grandson of the founder of the largest circulated Urdu newspaper of the world, I remember (when I was in 2nd grade) asking him why he put me in an American school - a quite novel and somewhat controversial move in Pakistan at the time. My grandfather smiled, “I put you in an American school because they will teach you the most important tool you will ever need , how to ask questions , how to think in questions , the rest is really up to you.” Oh and he also mentioned that the best school in the world to teach you how to ask the right questions is a place called “Harvard”.





Studying American history, I am amazed by your questions. You began by asking if it was fair for a king to tax without representation - and that question led you to the most eloquent ideas of the declaration of independence and the bill of rights , ideas and ideals that, that led you to a unique country of your own. When your citizen Rosa Parks, asked why she can’t sit on the other side of the bus, a civil rights movement started that led you to have the first African-American president - showing the world how tolerant and fair one can be to their minorities. When you asked why everyone can't have equal pursuit of happiness, based on merit, you formed the best entrepreneurial culture, where man’s most unique gift, our idea are valued better than anywhere else on the planet.



So many progressives and hopeful people around the world rely on this country to be a beacon of progress and hope of mankind. Progress and hope that has come from your tradition of questions.



So today as I stand here before you, I have some questions my grandfather would have wanted me to ask. I am not advocating that Iran should have the right to nuclear weapons but I am asking why isn’t there a debate. Why a place like Harvard an old a debate in the middle of the Forum on Iran, without a proper Iranian point of view presented?



I am not saying that Israel, as well as Islamic dictatorships and illegitimate rulers for that matter,should not be out rightly supported by the US, but I am asking why there is no debate about the measure of that support and the costs of that support to the US and to the World.



At times I feel that due to political correctness/ politeness, and not just ideology, Americans avoid many real political issues.



I am curious why US mainstream media portrays Socialism as a bad word – as bad as communism? I am not saying the US, like all industrialized nations, should provide healthcare to its citizens, but I am asking why the difference between socialism and communism isn’t debated by the media?



I am not saying the US should not spend $3 trillion in the Iraq/Afghanistan wars or that its annual military annual budget should not be more than the entire world combined, but why isn’t there proper national debate about that is the return on investment?



I am not asking the country which has the highest rate of lawsuits per capita, and that believes in its accountability system, why it isn’t suing those responsible or an illegal war against Iraq, leading to millions of deaths, but I am asking why isn’t this issue being debated at least?



I am not saying that ‘Joe the plumber’ should know about every corner of the world better than he does his 1992 world series baseball statistics but I am wondering whose interest it is serving for the average American to be =one=of the most ill informed world citizens in this age of Globalization.



I am not saying that the American political system is no longer the ideal representative system to balance efficiency with fairness, but should you not debate how effective a representative system can be where its average congressman just to get re-elected has to raise between $10,000-30,000. .a week! (and where 95% of congressmen are re-elected!)



I am not saying that DC should not have 40,000 lobbyist spending 4 billion dollars a year, but why isn’t there a debate whether one of the reason you don’t see as much corruption in American politics compared to other country’s is because you have legalize corruption/bribery - aka as lobbying. (some preliminary research shows that up to 70% of discretionary budget is linked to lobbyists!)



My intentions are to provoke thought and not provocation. We may not agree with the answers to these questions, but I hope you agree that we must ask these questions and encourage national debate.



My grandfather believed in the great American tradition of questions and I believe the solutions will come through living that very tradition.



In the end, I leave with you one last question paraphrasing the great Rabbi Arillel , If not here, at Harvard, then where? If not now, in this class today, then when? And if not you, Anne, Steve, John, Professor McCarthy , and all of us , then who?

1. That letterhead is not that of Mobil (MPN), you could have ask any of your friend that mobil have invited for interview to give you sample before sending this crap.

2. 80% Mobil business in 9ja is Joint venture with NNPC and other IOCs, the meaning of this is that they share all expenses and profit at a predefine percentage. NNPC gets 50-60% and the rest share the remaining, the meaning of this again is that Mobil alone cant pay the royalties alone for all the oil produced by them and other IOCs, you see where you fail?

3. who gave you the estimates of oil and gas produced by mobil as over 3 million barrel per day from 1999, do you know the amount of gas in mmscf that makes up a barrel of oil, even is you convert the gas to oil, still doesn't get near that amount. so pls do your home work well before trying to fool others.

This is what i am presently going through now in my life and work, cos i dont know what the future holds right now cos my manager is telling me not to make the next drastic but speculative move i am about making.
