Umahi gives two hawkers N1m for tuition, upkeep

Luck smiled on two teenage hawkers in Abakaliki on Tuesday as Governor David Umahi doled out N1m to them.

The two children, Ukamaka Ikema and Chimuanya Nwarie, had run into the governor who was inspecting the Akanu Ibiam roundabout flyover along the Transahara Expressway in the city.

Ukamaka, aged 10 is a primary three pupil of Ezikwo Primary School while Chimuanya, who is 12, is a JS I student of Evangel Nursery,Primary and Secondary School in the state capital.

Governor Umahi, who was in company with his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, and some members of the state Executive Council, had on noticing that his security aides frightened the children, directed his orderly to bring them to him.

After interacting with Kamala, who was hawking sachet water, the governor asked his ADC to deploy a patrol vehicle to go and pick up the parents of the teenagers from their homes. The children had told the governor that they had closed from school before hitting the streets to hawk.

A statement on Wednesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Emma Anya, explained that at the Government House, Umahi interacted with the mothers of the two children, warning them against sending their wards to hawk. After hearing the plight of the children’s parents, he approved N500,000 for each of them for the upkeep and tuition of the two children.

Umahi told the parents to deposit N200,000 each in their banks and use the balance of N300,000 each to start small scale business. The women were also offered temporary appointments by the governor.

Before they left the Government House, accounts were opened for the two children by officials of Zenith Bank.

The mothers of the two beneficiaries, Mrs. Blessing Nwarie and Mrs. Ada Nwota, both natives of Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area could not hide their joy as they praised and thanked the governor for his kind gesture.

They said they were convinced that Umahi was sent by God to uplift the downtrodden in the state.

“I pray the Almighty God to continue to shower his blessings and wisdom upon our amiable governor and family,’’ Mrs. Nary said.

Kamala and Nwarie, in their separate remarks, thanked Umahi and promised to be good children.

"Moremi Ajasoro " - unveiled.


Ooni of Ife yesterday unveiled the tallest statue in Nigeria Moremi Ajasoro.It is 42 feet tall with 30 risers.It is the tallest statue in Nigeria and the 3rd tallest in Africa.

It is constructed right on the spot Moremi lived several centuries of years ago. It is 100 percent locally constructed by Nigerian engineers and  youths sourced with sole  Nigerian materials.

At 161 feet, African Renaissance Monument in Dakar, Senegal, is the tallest statue in Africa, then the Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt which is 66 feet.
Moremi Ajasoro statue of Liberty in Ile- Ife , Nigeria at 42 feet is now the third tallest in Africa.

Ramesses II in Egypt at 30 feet, is the fourth tallest. Nelson Mandela Union Building in South Africa has a 28 feet statue and is the fifth tallest in the continent and Jesus Satue in Owerri Nigeria the fifth as well.

Nigerian man Mr. Ben King Obinna who is a camera man and father of 3 little boys was involved in a domestic fire incident in which he sustained severe burns all over his body.

The event occurred at his residence off Ohiarumuoke road, Nkpolu,Rumuigbo in Rivers State on Wednesday the 9th of November 2016.

He was transferred to Mercy Land Specialist hospital along East West Road on Friday the 18th of November due to the inability of the first facility to handle the situation.

Fayose bags Nwannedinamba Chieftaincy Title

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has been conferred the Nwannedinamba Ndigbo(Friend of the Igbos) title by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo with the authority of His Royal Majesty, Eze Chukwumeka Eri (JP).

The governor was honoured with the title during the 2016 Igbo Cultural Day Celebration held at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti on Saturday amidst funfair in an event that had worthy sons and daughters of the Igbos in Ekiti as well as high ranking political office holders in attendance.

Governor Fayose who described Igbo people as industrious and very hard-working said his love for the Igbos remain limitless.

"I am one with the Igbo people, they love me and I love them, I believe in them because they are industrious people, they are hardworking, whatever you will say in Nigeria today you can not take away the fact that Igbo people are risk takers, they are humble enough to serve under masters faithfully, graduate and behave in manners that represent them. I love Igbo people, I appreciate them and I will continue to do so", governor Fayose said.

Nigerian Lagos-based self acclaimed male barbie, Bobrisky was reportedly arrested by gallant operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly beating up a female fan.

According to an eyewitness who shared the news,an unidentified lady spotted the famous cross-dresser and began to film him. This irritated Bobrisky who allegedly pounced on her and physically assaulted her.

The police was alerted and he was reportedly whisked to the nearest police station.

Your men at Itire Police Station just murdered One Mr Nurudeen Aliyu who resides at 40 Aborisade Lawanson Itire Surulere who was arrested by the police for TWO fighting.

His body has been deposited at Luth by the policemen at Itire Police Station.

The DPO of Itire Police Station should know you can't cover this one up. Last year at this same police station a Police Inspector popularly called pastor killed a secondary school student and young guy around Oduduwa in Surulere. This police man walked free and still with the police echelon as we speak.
The annoying thing is that I saw this pastor three weeks after the incident. He has been posted to Agege Police Station.

The name of the killer cop is Inspector Smart.

Someone said my first picture is the governor's office... No no no! Flag with Yellow Colour is that of FAAN, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria.

'Pictures Cross River State Government Does Not Want You To See.

Mr Christian Ita, SSA on Media, and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Cross River State is presently under investigation by the SSS and the Cross River State Police Command over the sponsorship of a cult group that unleashed this on the people of New Netim in Odukpani LGA.

A human right advocacy group has also written a petition to the United Nations, Public Complaint offices, and other human right advocacy groups, calling on the government to investigate the involvement of Christian Ita on the deaths that included women, innocent children, and others.

The Cross River State government is aware of the arrest and detention of Mr Christian Ita about three weeks ago. The government hurriedly bargained that Christian Ita be given bail on status recognition.

However, the SSS have been called in to investigate the involvement of Mr Ita in the deaths and destruction of lives and properties in New Netim.

'Like Trump Like Obasanjo

On the morning of Saturday the 20th of February, 2016, I was having breakfast at Eko Hotel with a friend of mine, Reno Omokri and one of the top Democratic Party strategists in the US and an argument ensued. Omokri said Trump would go all the way while the American said he was not going anywhere. I joined the conversation by saying that Trump is a phenomenon and no one knows how far he will go.

Today, I sit here writing this piece pleasantly stunned that what the mainstream media, what the establishment and what the powers that be said could never happen has happened due to this phenomenal man's belief in himself when others did not believe in hm.

I have met Donald Trump one on one before and what I clearly remember about him is that he is a White and younger version of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The two of them can be brash and outspoken but they always seem to come out on top by some sort of divine arrangement that makes whatever they do turn out for the best even if it began with controversy.

More similarities between the duo is that they both undeniably have an insatiable taste for women and beautiful ones at that!

Then again, they are both men who have succeeded in business and, even though they were political outsiders, they extended their business success to politics.

And even though there is a lot of anxiety in the Black world and especially Nigeria, I believe that a Trump Presidency would be better for Africa and Nigeria than a Hillary administration.

For one, Boko Haram are now afraid. Very afraid! This is a man that is not afraid to use the word radical Islamic terror and to declare to all who care to listen that he will be their nemesis.

Nigeria needs such a partner!

We are spending way too much of our resources on fighting terrorists. We need a big strong hand to help us fight them. A hand that will not be afraid to sell us weapons and will not make us grovel before it is willing to help us destroy our enemies who want to destroy us.

But secondly and very importantly, Nigeria is an oil producing nation and though I believe that it is what is between the ears of our people that will make this nation great, we still need foreign exchange and Hillary's plans for alternative energy was not going to see the price of oil go up anytime soon.

But Trump won in Texas because the oil industry knows that they have a friend in him, and any friend of Texas big oil is a friend of Nigeria.

And forget about all that talk about immigration reform. Trump will not stop Nigerians from entering the US. The US needs Nigerians more than Nigerians need the US.

Without Nigerian healthcare professionals, the US health industry would collapse overnight. Neither Trump or Hillary wanted that.

Trump's rhetoric was directed more at Mexican immigrants because of the immediate threat posed to the US by illegal immigration from Mexico.

Having said that, let me add that the last similarity between Trump and former President Obasanjo is that they both look not very intelligent, but their looks betray their vast knowledge and deep wisdom. You meet them and size them up by their looks and end up underestimating them.

But when they reach into their reptilian brain and come out with strategies it becomes too late to do what you should have done.

I am glad that Trump won and I cannot wait to see how he will change the world positively.

But one thing is clear, any politician who underestimates the role of social media in the battle to win the hearts and minds of the people is a politician that is going the way of the dinosaurs.

Social media and particularly Twitter was the weapon Trump used to fight the mainstream media. Social media is the ultimate form of democracy in that it gives the underdog a vehicle to amplify his or her voice against a biased media that wants to suppress it.
