Our ambassador too had to be recalled back from Mogadishu with immediate effect to Nairobi for 'consultations and clarifications'

That's the ' MODUS OPERANDI ' when there is a diplomatic spat or a misunderstanding .That's the formality, that's the protocol, that's how things are normally done! The ambassadors are recalled and expected to give explanations and clarifications of the actions of both countries they present.....thus the Kenyan ambassador to Somalia had to fly to Nairobi to brief our State House on Somalia's stance...same for Somalia's ambassador to Kenya!
tylann:
Then we should share 50/50
But the decision by the Kenyan Govt to expel the Somali Diplomat was rush

The court will be careful not to set that precedence as it might open other litigations. It's not only Tanzania that will be shortchanged,it's pretty much for all the nations that sit south below Kenya in Africa's map!
rvp2018:
The somalis will cause trouble for a long time - maybe just having independent and weaker Jubaland state is the trick. If we used their logic...then we would annexes huge parts of Tanzania by drawing a straight line.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 8:01am On Feb 18, 2019
It's a ''disputed territory" but Kenya's case makes more sense because if the court goes with Somalia's decision,it will also affects Kenya's maritime boarder with Tanzania,Mozambique,Madagascar and South Africa. Our position is that the maritime boarder should run horizontally and parallel to the line of latitude and as not as an extension to the Kenya's land boarder!

Why does Kenya's argument make more sense?

If court proceedings are opened, then the decision on the border will be binding. The court case is a high risk for both states. "If the court should decide in favour of Somalia, the Kenyan border would shift dramatically.

This could lead to a dispute over the maritime boundary with Kenya's southern neighbor Tanzania, which could in turn have an impact on Mozambique, Madagascar and South Africa because the law should be applied to all and not only to Kenya.I mean, what's good for the goose should be good for the gander. The court might set a precedence where it's decision may impact the maritime boarders of other states.

The other popular solution-No winner.....A fifty fifty share for all!

In disputed cases, a temporary boundary is drawn along a line that is at the same distance from both coastlines , if there are no physical obstacles to this. A test period is then implemented to see if this boundary is fair to both sides or if it benefits or disadvantages one or the other.

Nairobi's stance!

Kenya's government is sticking to its preferred border demarcation. For nearly 100 years, it had considered this line to be its border, the government wrote to the ICJ court.

I'd rather sh*t on my hands and clap than asking help from a Tanzanian. You can only collect 10 billion US dollars as your annual revenues, stay on your lane! Someone here once said that you are like the kid from a poor family who wants to hang out with the rich kids, the fact that you are in a thread that has Kenya in it speaks volumes gtfo grin

No country moves more goods and people in railways than China. Their railway technology is on top of the league!
rvp2018:
These things are better left to Chinese. Those Turkish thugs will leave Tanzania with a rickety rail that will be expensive to maintain.

Somaliland, Puntland and Jubaland all want to be countries of their own. Mogadishu should be careful. We can use this three to our advantage if need be!
rvp2018:
We are dealing with them diplomatically. Already we control Jubaland - and if they don't play ball - we can make it a state of it's own. It's either Mogadishu accept to lose that sea or well they will lose the territory from Kismayu to Kenya border - and we have alshabaab excuse to stay there forever.

I don't know, I'm not really into cinema. I rarely go there. Why don't you find out? But I've personally never seen or heard a Nigerian movie being shown at a cinema in Kenya!
MasterKrest:
do they show Nigerian cinema film in Kenya, like 30days in Atlanta, chief daddy,or kings of boy,I really need to find out, honest opinion, that is if jealousy will allow you to answer?

Let's see how things will pan out. I'm yet to understand their political dynamics. He seems like a crowd mobiliser, just like Zuma. He's also vocal and speaks for the people at the bottom!
rvp2018:
People are fickle.Zuma was Malema. If Ramaphosa with his education & business acumen fails - and Malema is next. Malema is populist. So he'll easily get in.

Their policy makers are as bright as ours! This is a nation that we should have more engagements in !
rvp2018:
Woah. That is pretty impressive. Kenya is trying to do probably most of that - but your scale is simply breathtaking. For instance National Feeding Program for all public schools in primary to secondary. This really should be the template for many countries. I know WB/IMF will berate countries for investing on social programs - but this is what is exactly needed - human development investment.

I also know politicians used to mega corruption like Nigerian (and partly Kenyan) don't want such social program because it's very hard to steal money meant for social programs that have to be distributed - to every nook & cranky - and it easy to steal infrastructure funds - by demanding 10% from every contractor.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 9:12am On Feb 17, 2019
But from the look of the few South Africans here, they don't see Malema at the helm any time soon. He is only good in the street or the opposition.
rvp2018:
They are still so many miles ahead and can afford to mess around a little longer - but if Ramaphose fails - then I see RSA trying Malema smiley in 5-10yrs and then Zimbwabwe it will be.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 9:09am On Feb 17, 2019
Let's wait for the government's clarification
Kazikazi:
A dam will cost 3b. Where are you getting 9b from?
FYI, we had 40 companies who were bidding for the project! None of them asked for 9 billions. All of them were in 3 billion range. So how will the 6b get into equation? Remember, this is engineering feat, its mathematical.

The extra 2000 of MW will go into manufacturing, mining especially a gold smelter and steel smelters which are in the pipeline. We couldn't do all those mega projects for lacking power. Our power demand per annum grows by 10 to 15%. More than 90% of Tanzania's minerals are still lying underground. We extracted less than 10% of our mineral reserves. So we need power more than kenya.

In case we gets more power we will export to anyone

If you mean Uganda then they have 10B debt (7B external) - and their GDP is around 25-30B - so they are still fine. They are of course betting on oil changing their fortunes.

Constant report by who and who ?
obaaderemi:
Even at that or because of that, you are mostly in the news for the wrong reasons. For example, the constant report that 60% of Nairobi's people live in slums-- a claim many Little Indians say is influenced by the presence of these international organizations.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 8:46am On Feb 17, 2019
23 billion dollars debt, that's not our problem but man those are serious figures!
rvp2018:
Western Kenya still depend on Jinja - Sondu -no dam reservoir & Turkwel -pokots- has issues!. Uganda makes a kill - selling power at 21kshs a unit. But now I think Ketraco is about done connecting Naivasha's Geothermal to western kenya -. Turkwell was suppose to fill that void but it's been closed for years now due to insecurity problem. It such a shame that such investment - 100MW - of power - cannot be produced because kenya police cannot gurantee the security of Kengen stuff. Sondu Mirru really functions only during rainy season because it doesn't have a reservior dam.

Uganda are going to get in trouble if they don't figure out how to consume 1,000MWs - Karuma dam alone will produce 600MWs - and it cost them nearly 2B dollars!!

Anyway maybe South Africa will eventually buy all the excess power given ANC inability to bring in new power sources down south.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 8:41am On Feb 17, 2019
I agree with you on this !
obaaderemi:
This is actually what Africa needs most in addition to universal basic education. Educated and healthy people tend to find solutions to their problems more easily than the less so.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 8:35am On Feb 17, 2019
You didn't get my point. Some countries are just not news-worthy.
We enjoy airtime because of the heavy presence of international media in Kenya. At one point, the BBC Africa seemed to be like BBC Kenya that other Africans questioned this BBC dalliance with us!
When you have Unep, Un Habitat, big money multinationals and a brilliant tourism sector- the world will care when you even cough!
obaaderemi:
This is silly, to put it mildly. If the news from Nigeria is not international news, then how did you and your brothers hear about it? Remember, everything on nairaland is international news in Kenya. Probably, your politicians are also here.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 8:26am On Feb 17, 2019
Exactly my point! Our government itself is keen on not producing idle power. We are even now going slow on renewables such as solar and wind as we shift focus to geothermal, solar and wind are intermittent sources of power and the government is carefull not to have in excess of this two sources as you can have high windy days and high solar days likewise low windy and solar days hence bringing about the inconsistency of power injections from this two sources to the national grid!
rvp2018:
Precisely. Some of these investments are not well thought out. Kenya is already more than self-sufficient and there are still more investment on the pipeline. Uganda have nearly 1,000MW coming online soon (Karuma dam alone is 600MW) - and yet they are barely consuming 500MW. You can all excess capacity from Ethiopia and Tanzania. Unless East Africa really start doing serious minning, steel manufacturing and such heavy consumers of power - there is already an over-capacity - if you consider the power consumption per capita is very low due to poverty.

We may see a lot of white elephants. Better focus maybe on dams fro water supply and irrigation.
