Computers › How Do You Get Starlink In Nigeria And How Much Does It Cost? by jookco(op): 12:53pm On Mar 11, 2023 |
The news that Starlink, a satellite-based internet service provider, is expanding to Nigeria has been causing a stir on social media. Founded by Elon Musk's SpaceX, Starlink offers internet connectivity via low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites. With more than 1,500 of the 2,000 satellites deployed last year already in use, it is now possible for remote communities and locations that are beyond the reach of ordinary service providers to have internet access. Nigerians who currently use data bundles from providers like 9mobile, Airtel Nigeria, Spectranet, and MTNN to access the internet are often frustrated with their poor internet connections and frequent outages. In contrast, Starlink offers a remarkable internet speed of up to 104Mbps, which is significantly faster than the typical cellular internet speed of 17.38Mbps. Using LEO satellites also means that internet outages and the absence of network signals in remote locations should be reduced. So, how much does Starlink cost in Nigeria? To set up a Starlink device, customers must pay a one-time equipment fee of approximately $599 (or N438,000), $60 (or N25,000) for shipping, and a monthly subscription of $43 (or N31,390). For the premium service, the whole kit costs close to $2,500 (or N1.375 million), with a monthly fee of $500 (or N275,000). The Starlink kit comes with a wifi router, terminal, and mounting tripod, and is easy to assemble. To order Starlink from Nigeria, customers can pre-order the kit by paying a deposit on the Starlink website using a domiciled dollar card. With its fast internet speed and improved connectivity in remote areas, Starlink is a promising option for Nigerians seeking reliable and efficient internet access.
