A 14-year-old pupil was crushed to death on Monday by a fast-moving vehicle while being pursued by a masquerader, aka okorosha, at Ogbaku, in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

A witness said that the boy, who was on his way to school at about 9am, took to his heels on sighting the masquerader, while the masquerader took advantage of his fright to chase him till he ran into the path of the vehicle on the Onitsha-Owerri Road, a few metres from a police division in the area.

After the incident, the masquerader was said to have mixed with other masqueraders, leaving the boy in a pool of blood.

Another witness, Mr. Linus Iwuji, blamed the community leaders for allowing the masqueraders to roam freely on busy roads rather than restricting them to the village square.

“I blame the community leaders for allowing the masqueraders to walk about chasing people. They and their guides even rob and rape women at late hours,” Iwuji said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the incident.
He added that the police were investigating the incident.

The electricity bill consumed by students of University Jos living in the various hostels on campus
has climb to over a N100million, says the Vice Chancellor Professor Seddi Maimako.

The Vice-Chancellor who was Speaking recently in a press conference to mark his one year in office as a Vice Chancellor, the VC said students welfare is very important because without them the university cannot exist.

According to him, “conscious of our responsibility to the students who are the reason for our being here, we have within the period under review tried as much as possible to address the issue of electricity and water supply,” he said.

However, he decried the abusive use of light consumption by students in the hostel, saying that school management has often caution students on the arbitrary use of electricity.

His words, “when you go to their hostels, you see them using two boiling rings in one bucket; the water gets hot and they top it with more water because he or she is not yet ready to bath and this goes on and on.

“You also find them boiling beans with boiling rings as well as other consumable, leaving the light on when going for lectures; we have a case of a student who forgot his pressing iron on his bed, before he returned from lecture the pressing iron got so heated up and burnt the whole room”.

The Vice-Chancellor said only in February, the University paid N26million as light bill, while N14million only was also paid as light bill in the popular hostel(village hostel),he said.

Just few days after unknown men packed car loaded with bomb at Diamond Bank, Jos katako branch, another reports has is that a major bomb blast was averted on Sunday morning in Jos, Plateau state after residents of Angwan Jararwa area of Farin Gada, woke up to discover about 10 cylinders of what was suspected to be bombs strategically placed and distributed by unknown men to cause damage.

Men of the Police anti-bomb squad were called to the scene of the incident and went on to handle the situation, they later cautioned people within the area to be at alert as the police and anti bomb squad are handling the situation

The bombs were said to be arranged in sacks and bags set to explode when church service dismiss and were strategically placed at the Junction of two Churches, Augustine catholic church and Cocin church angwan Jarawa area of Frain Gada, Jos.

Case in magistrate court was not perfected. Prison says it was a cancelled warrant. Complainant lawyers and prosecutor says no. I was "miraculous" freed says the prosecutor".

The elder brother of Mrs. Uchenna Precious Onwuamadike, wife of the dreaded kidnap kingpin, Mr. Chidumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a Evans, Mr. Chukwuemeka Okoye said yesterday that his sister has not visited her village at Awo Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State since she got married in 2006.

He told Vanguard yesterday that even when their father died in 2014, Uchenna, who is the last of 13 children of the Okoyes, and her husband, Evans, did not attend the burial.

He said that he has not been communicating with his sister even on telephone, adding that he does not even know that she is married with five children.

When shown the photograph of his sister and her five children, Chukwuemeka, a farmer and a daily paid job man at Oraifite market said he would not be able to identify his brother in-law, Evans, if they meet.

He said: “Our father was very sick when Uchenna got married and he was bedridden for eight years before he died in 2014.

It was her father in-law that came for the burial. Once she got married, nobody heard from her again and sometimes we heard that she was living abroad.

“My elder brother who is living abroad once told me that he communicated with her and there was no way I could know their present predicament because I do not watch television, neither do I have a mobile phone that can be used for browsing.”

He said that despite the poverty in his family, Uchenna and her husband never cared and said that he had not even heard that his sister’s husband was a kidnapper.

Their aged mother, who is said to be diabetic, is presently staying with one of his brothers in the North and has been away for over one year.

Uchenna’s cousin, a Reverend of the Anglican Church, who preferred anonymity said they did not know much about Uchenna because she was not communicating with the family, adding that he only knew about their present situation from the internet.

I usually saw two young men coming in and out of the building, without suspecting anything bad was going on there.

The only time cars came in was at night and they drive out almost immediately.” The kidnappers were said to have taken advantage of the quietness of the vicinity.

Everybody goes out in the day time and comes back at night without prying into other peoples business.”

Another resident Mrs Chikwendu Odinaka who claimed to have been in the area for over 10 years, said: ”Community leaders of all the bungalows streets have printed forms for residents.

This is aimed at documenting the identities of all the residents and their places of work, in order to know where to look for them in case of eventuality.

‘’We were shocked when policemen brought Evans, that we had been reading about, to one of the bungalow buildings on Green street on Sunday.

‘’Why he chose there instead of better high brow areas, remains a question only him can answer,“ she said. The streets where the profiling will be done are: Brown, Purple, White, Blue, Green, Pink, Silver, Gold and orange. Blue and White streets community started distributing the forms yesterday.

As part of efforts to curb the spread of diseases in the state, the Sokoto state Ministry of Health says it plans to send a bill to the state House of Assembly where suitors would be compelled to add a well treated mosquito net as part of their bride price they would pay before they get their brides.

The state Commissioner for health, Balarabe Kakale, disclosed this Sunday. According to Kakale, the proposed bill if passed will compel intending couples in the state to undergo HIV/AIDS, genotype and Hepatitis B tests.

Kakale however stated that the proposed law would be sent to the house after the cultural, Islamic implications of the premarital testing are extensively considered. He noted that the measures were meant to reduce the spread of diseases in the state.

Looking back at Big Brother Naija…

I wanted that platform. I wanted that wide reach. People send me messages from Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, etc. on a normal day, before I entered the house, how many people would have known me? So yes, even though I did not win, I feel like I achieved my aim. Even if I won that money, It would still finish.

Why she did not attend university

I wrote Jamb and I was jammed. It’s not like I did not try. I tried so many schools all over the country. It’s not that I wasn’t passing the exams; it was a problem of not getting funds. I did not have money to pay for certain things. I was even duped when I tried to enter LASU. That pulled me back and all this just made me discouraged. I also tried National Open University (NOUN) and you know it is very easy to get into NOUN, and at certain times you needed to pay certain fees. Believe me; it was difficult to raise N15, 000 at that time. I just decided that all of my energy let me use it into using my talent to feed myself.

How she used to go to her neighbor’s house to ‘stylishly’ ask for food because she and her daughter had nothing to eat

Sometimes when there was no food to eat at home, I take my daughter to my neighbor’s house under the pretext of watching television and stylishly feed my daughter and myself. That’s why I can relate to people because when you are down, you are down. But one cannot just stay down. I would love to help people get out of this type of situation.

Her plans for the future:

I have so many things lined up. Obviously I want to do more movies and music too. I did get into the entertainment industry via music but I put it on hold for a couple of years so I’m going to revamp that access. I also want to make my own films in future and I‘m an ambassador for the One Campaign Poverty is Sexist so I will be pursuing that as well.

Evans wife, Uchenna Precious Onwuamadike, 31, has revealed that she got married to him at the age of 17 in 2004. Their marriage is blessed with 5 children, and their first born is 12 years old.

In a chat with Vanguardngr, Uchenna, said: “I’m not aware that he was into crime. All I know about his business is that he was into haulage, buying engine and spare parts for trucks and imports exhaust pipes. That was what he told me. .

I pressured him to find something for me to do and he promised to do that. Several times, I asked him to take me to his office but he said they move from place to place to offload goods in haulage business and share profits.

I was always indoors because he warned me to beware of Lagos women that they are wayward. When I heard all the allegations against him after his arrest, I was confused until I opened websites.

I collapsed and later called my kids to inform them what I just read about their father. Since then, I have not eaten, I am still in shock. Our children could not believe what they were reading about their father.

In fact, while we were in Nigeria, he had never slept outside our house. My children were crying when they saw his bloody eyes and swollen face. I am not aware that he has five girlfriends. As his wife, I should have seen the signs but I have not.

He has colon cancer and does not drink alcohol nor smoke anything. He has never told me he has another house at Igando. He reads psalm 23 a lot.

Even his phone, he sets alarm for 12 noon to read psalm 23. He used to lead us in prayers. I am appealing to the powers that be to spare his life. Have mercy on us. God knows I will not be alive and see my husband doing bad thing and keep quiet.

All his wealth should be sold off and given to his victims. I will also like to see the Governor of Lagos state and explain the whole thing to him.

A worker with Bedmate Furniture Company, Magboro, Ogun State, William Ekanem, is in pain after his spinal bone was allegedly damaged by his Chinese boss, identified as Master W.


PUNCH Metro learnt that Master Wan, who is skilled in kung fu, had demanded to see a bag of rice which Ekanem bought from a foodstuffs seller, identified as Iya Melo, on the premises of the company.

The 27-year-old had reportedly challenged the Chinese for poking his nose into his personal business.

After forcefully checking the content, Ekanem said he was leaving when Master Wan allegedly gave him a kick in the back, which sent him sprawling on the ground.

The suspect was said to have stamped his foot on the victim before he was rescued by some other workers on the premises.

It was gathered that since the incident, Ekanem had not been able to walk well or stand straight.

The victim said although the case was reported at the Ibafo Police Station, the Divisional Crime Officer allegedly took a N50,000 bribe from the Chinese company.

He was said to have backed the company against the Uyo, Akwa Ibom State indigene, who was accused of exaggerating the assault.

Ekanem, said,

“I joined the company on January 7, 2007 and rose to become a foreman, overseeing black workers in a department of the company. Despite working for long, my salary is only N34,000. I don’t have an identity card and I am not a member of staff just like the rest of the over 300 workers at the company.

“Sometime in April 2017, I approached the foodstuffs seller on the premises to give me rice and groundnut oil on credit pending when we would be paid our salaries at the end of the month.

“I was taking the foodstuffs to the office when Master Wan demanded to know what was inside the bag. Because he didn’t understand English, I simply said, ‘rice, chop-chop’.
“He dipped his fingers into the sack and checked it. I protested against the action. He hit me in the chest as I collected my bag from him. I was walking away when he suddenly gave me a kung fu kick from the back. I fell. He charged at me with his foot and pinned me to the ground. I lay on the floor and started groaning with pain as some people came to drag him away from me.”

He said he was thereafter taken to a private hospital in the Arepo area, where he was given an injection.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the company gave Ekanem N10,000 for his medical expenses, while the company’s Nigerian manager, identified only as Lekan, assured the hospital that Bedmate would pay for all the expenses.

He was said to have been asked to go home by the doctor, who said a specialist would be contacted to treat him.

Upon Ekanem’s return to the hospital the following Monday, it was learnt that the result of a test he did showed his spinal cord had “shifted”.

The doctor reportedly gave him a list of drugs and asked him to take time off to rest.

The victim said the pain,, however, aggravated as he could no longer sleep.

Around that time, Ekanem’s pregnant wife reportedly gave birth.

“I went to the company to collect my N34,000 salary. When I got there, they gave me N24,000 and said they had removed the N10,000 they gave me for my feeding and treatment at the hospital.. I broke down in tears at the company. I could not believe they could treat me so shabbily. I left in anger. I was thinking about the situation on the road when I slumped,” he added.
He said together with a friend and some rights activists, the case was reported at the Ibafo Police Station.

PUNCH Metro was told that the Ibafo DCO detailed two policemen to join Ekanem in arresting the Chinese man at the company on that Friday.

Master Wan, however, reportedly fled and went into hiding on sighting the policemen at the company.

The policemen were said to have been kept waiting for over two hours on the company premises as Lekan, the Nigerian manager, reprimanded Ekanem for inviting the police.

“When it was getting dark, Lekan promised to bring Master Wan to the station by 10am the following Monday. He followed us back to the station and promised the DCO that he would personally bring the man. He gave the DCO N50,000 in our presence,” the victim said.

By 8am on Monday, Lekan, the Chinese head of the company and others arrived at the station without the suspect.

Ekanem said he was called by his brother, who asked him to hurry to the station.

The DCO allegedly supported the company and scolded Ekanem’s brother for not resolving the issue amicably.

“I started crying. I told him that if I were his son, would he say such a thing to me? Shortly after, the Chinese head asked me and my brother to excuse them. As we were stepping out, I sighted him giving the DCO another envelope.

“Our lawyer arrived shortly after and started an argument with them. The lawyer threatened to report the DCO to the Area Command and transfer the case from the division,” the 27-year-old added.

It was learnt that the police later referred the victim to another private facility, Divine Touch Hospital, Ibafo.

Lekan, the Nigerian manager, was alleged to have pressured Ekanem to drop the case, saying he could not fight the Chinese company due to his poor background.

He was reportedly abandoned at the hospital for two weeks, as the police and the company refused to care for him.

The matter was subsequently transferred to the Sagamu Area Command.

Ekanem was said to have been referred for further checks and treatment at the General Hospital, Owode.

The company’s lawyer, Ayo Durojaiye, later said the company had decided to give the victim N134,000.

“The lawyer said it was because I was hungry that I looked malnourished. He said the company had instructed that I should spend N100,000 on my feeding, and take N34,000 as my salary. He said I could return to work afterwards. My lawyer disagreed with him and expressed disgust over my treatment,” he added.

Ekanem’s lawyer, Felix Emeruwa, demanded an apology from the company and payment of N50m compensation.

All staffs of Diamond bank Katako Branch, Jos and residents has vacated after a suspected car loaded with explosives was spotted in front of the Bank.

JTownConnect Metro gathered that the car has been packed for 1day and some hours without no one coming for it.

Scared residents and staffs of the Diamond Bank Katako branch raised an alarm, called for the anti Bomb squad who wasted no time and landed at the scene.

The Anti Bomb Squad blocked the commercial roads preventing people and vehicles from passing and going out.

The 15-year-old son of a mafia boss’ is facing life in jail for gunning down his best pal who simply ‘liked’ a Facebook picture of his girlfriend.

Victim Francesco Prestia, 19, was left dead in an olive field in Mileto, Italy, with three bullets in his chest.

His killer has been named in Italian media as 15-year-old Alex Pititto, the son of ‘Ndrangheta mafia boss Salvatore Pititto, known as ‘El Tio’, or the Uncle.

Pititto saw the Facebook ‘like’ as a “lack of respect”. He is reported to have turned himself into police and led them to the olive grove where he had left his friend’s body.

Local media reports that the teenage mobster had long suspected his friend had feelings for his girlfriend.

But when he saw that Francesco had ticked the ‘like’ button for a new picture on her Facebook profile he called his friend to a meeting in a remote field and gunned him down.

Here’s my story…. early.. last year i told my sister that she was going to have twins baby girls as her 2nd issue.. she mocked me and told me to go have mine as i am overdue…

When she conceived it was twins.. i stood in the gap for her….@8 months ,she came to church with a strange urge for holy communion…did this for 3 days… but i didn’t listen to what my inner man was telling me…i just sensed something..

One night her guy brought her to d house..she could no longer walk…her feet and legs were swollen, they were round balls on it rupturing and bringing out water….lots of em..she was crying..i had to carry her…diagnosed of cellulitis at the hospital..she would cry just to be turned on d bed at d hospital.

The 3rd day as early as 4 to 5 am i got d a strong urge to stand in d gap for her..i tried to resist as i was so tired from d work load…a strong wind moved me from d room to d sitting room..i only did minutes… i was so tired .. by 7 am… i got a call from d hospital that my sister is no longer responding..

I got to d hospital to find that they operated on her… brought out d 2 very big baby girls dead.. they discovered that one of girls had died before now affecting her and the other baby….sepsis shock….she was already in coma and needed to be transfered to lasuth ikeja for life support machine… i hated myself the more as i had to rush to make arrangement of a 350 thousand naira deposit….

LASUTH requested to amputate her leg for survival.

Due to d poison…. i rejected the report… but the consent form was signed behind me and they did it…

They couldn’t close her womb because she was too critical.. after awhile they did… they did tracheotomy…opening her neck and inserting a tube for her to breath properly… by now…1 million has been paid…

I kept my faith in God…anointing her e.t.c even the doctor admonished me to continue as it has been prayers… shes out of d coma….she recognized me… she saw her amputated right leg.. she cried all through… she cant talk because of the tube in her throat but when she managed to talk…she asked me “why did u allow them to cut my leg?” (With d tube in her)
She hates me..with all that i went through…spent all i had..still carry baby food everyday to d hospital for her to be fed through her nose tube… God kept on providing..Teeshafo didn’t know anything but gave me baby-food for free..

My God would keep expanding your coast… ravens brought food for me to eat.. her procurements are sometimes 15k daily..e.g pentasure, hp…slow k..adult diaper..Nightingale..e.t.c
Our bill at hospital is over 7 million and have paid only 1.1 million…..i tried calling a professional…one sister jaiyeoba that supplies motherly kit to talk to my sister but she declined as the sorrow is too much…

I can’t tell her yet that she lost the twins…who would help me talk to Her?

She’s still at the hospital and needs love… may God forgive me for my insensitivity and slow response”
