Ogunleti01:
Agriculture Is A Goldmine If You Do It The Right Way
Developing strong passion for what you know how to do best will help you a lot in distinguishing you out of the Crowd. I have always developed this passion for agriculture right from when i finished my secondary school. I did not start it big as every business we see blossoming today, they all started from the scratch. Do not despise the day of little beginning.
My first voyage into agricultural world was broiler rearing in 2007 and i can confidently tell u it was a total mess. from the cage construction, to their feeding, to the management of heat stress, and most importantly marketing, i learnt my lessons the hard way. I won't forget the hard knock i got when gumboro wiped out my flock of about 250(6weeks old isa brown) with 24hours occassioned by my hesitant to vaccinate them on time. From that period onward have gone to make thousands in profit from the same venture that dealt me a huge blow in the first instance.
Worthy of note was my decision to venture into cash crop farming when Npower gave everybody red card. Year 2020 was the most challenging year for me because i did the extraordinary. You know what, i emptied every penny in my account and went and bought almost 4 acres of land along Ogun river in Oyo state. it was so challenging in the sense that i practically became dependent on some people at some point, later took up part time teaching job to augment for things. My farm became my first office bought jungle boot, cutlass, chemicals and alone inside the thick forest i started bringing my plans into reality. i it took me almost 6weeks to clear about 4 and a half acres of land, killed the big tree with chemicals, pegged the land and had to uproot 800 plantain sucker my self from my neighbors' farms free of charge and i did the planting. This i finished in May 26th 2020. it was never an easy experience at all.
From there a different journey altogether, i had earlier sourced for hybrid cocoa pod to nurse as the farm was originally meant to be a cocoa plantation. I went to several farms doing research and at the end i got a specie i was looking for and from there i started picking up purewater nylon here and there. some loose mouths were even saying "abi pure water nylon ni won tun lo bayi nii" i laughed i never allow that to weigh me down at all. i was able to gather 2300 nylons and out of it i filled 1400 with rich humus and plantated my cocoa. i finished transplanting my cocoa to the field on 6th June, 2020.
The first harvest i was expecting from my plantain in April 2021 about 5 bunches were cut by thieves. they were the one that first tasted out of my sweat. from there being nervous of how to market my harvest, i went to one food vendor to tell her i can be supplying plantain to her. Her attitude at first did not go down well with me as she was doing as if i have come to beg her to buy. The following week i went to the farm and cut some packed them on my bike and straight to her canteen before i could come down from my bike she said did you bring this for me ?noo i can buy all these, they are too small. chai! i felt dejected made a u turn and headed straight home. on the way i sold off the plantain!. later i met with those that were already in the farm before me( the mistake i made) and i was told no matter how small ur produce is always take it to the market. The next harvest one and a half dozen i took it to the market straight and before i could even get down from my bike almost 4 buyers surrounded me and where the ones even helping me to remove the rope from my bike. That night i went home with 13500. Wao! so "emi nikan tan" from there #45000, 55k, 70k from 2021 up to this present moment i have realised almost #452000 from plantain alone. and confidently bought another one acre plant plantain there too. In all of this determination is very key! it is only in agriculture that you can be guaranteed of making double of your investment as profit if you do it the right way. And the sweetest part of it now is that i now have a federal job that i do and the farm is like my second source of income. Just this evening i got some cash from my plantain! In the next 6-7years God's willing something should also be coming from my cocoa. It really pays to do agriculture

Good job am encouraged on this. Also thanks for sharing. One thing I like about you is your never die attitude.

Hello House, I tried Big Sun (yellow pepper) sometimes ago and it did very well but had issues with the marketing (people in my area are not used to yellow pepper).
Please anyone with information about Aveiner F1 and issues with germination. How do I know and get the right batch that will germinate. ? Thanks for anticipated positive response.

okoroemeka:
sprinkler irrigation is the worst thing for a vegetable farm except maybe ugwu,we tried raingun and hurriedly packed it away, the fastest way to ring dinner bell for foliar disease on cucumbers, pepper, etc is constant wetness of leafs, the best form of irrigation for crops like that is drip or hand watering targeted at the stem, also that seed extraction technique,do you know that 60-70% of pepper disease also infect the fruits and subsequently the seeds,if you extract seeds from a hybrid crop,an old farm that has a 100% chance of been left to diseases that seedling is already doomed before starting, almost all common pepper diseases and viral infections are all found in the seeds from antracnose, bacterial leaf spot to viral mosaic disease(leaf curling),so the best defense against disease starts from the seeds and extracting seeds without proper checks is simply not a good idea, the small advantage in reducing cost will be wiped off by high application of fungicides and subsequent loss to high disease pressure, pls be guided.

Good evening all, I will appreciate if I can get answers to the following:

1). Those 1.5kva UPS has the same capacity with 1.5kva inverter?

2). Can 1.5kva UPS carry energy saving freezer (200w) ?

3). How can I fix bad solar battery (I picked an old solar battery from someone. He stopped using it about 10 years ago cause he relocated to a place with stable electricity and didn't see the need to use it again. I guess the battery got spoilt in the process of abandonment) ?

4). Can a solar panel of 40w change a solar battery of 100ah successful without using solar charge controller?

Thanks for your anticipated positive response

Yungbrym:
Ure right, buh the farm manager said they usually have more than 95% germination rate and they don't experience transplant shock BC they move it to the greenhouse and dey use coco- peat.
They buy the seeds from dizengolf directly and dizengolf already trained them of the germination and other necessary process like transplanting..

please I will like to have your contact. thanks

Theres diff btw a gardener and a farmer... and pepper variety matters as well.... its easier to cultivate 1 to 10 pepper plants.. but try 500 to 1000 then you'll understand better

Contact this user for east west seeds 07068278983
, she is located at ibadan

Efia and etna are both habenaro pepper plants
While efia is opv, etna is hybrid..

If you're still a practicing farmer I suggest you go for efia. As it is the most available pepper seed in the market.. and also cheaper compared to etna

I advice you forget about purchasing avenir for now..

OK. thanks

Well I did put that into consideration... but I had to make a different choice.. since I'll also be employing a farm manager.. who lives at the community where the farm will be established .....

Besides that what I want right now is experience

I dobt want to feel like I have to rely on the farm manager for everything... infact... I dont want him to know I have no experience in farming.. hes from kotonu border area.. and he have decided to relocate to ogun state just for this project

I like you mindset Sir, I had the same earlier this year. Had an acea of land proposed for Pepper, but I have less than half a plot that survived. My discovery and recommendations are:

1) Think and plan big

2) Read and learn wide

3) Be ready to experiment

4) Never be far from your pepper farm ( if you really want to learn)

5) The Farm manager should do maintenance work majorly while you spear head the project.

6) Pepper farming requires real patience and a never give up spirit

7) Learn how to Nurse your pepper yourself and do so ( only buy seedlings from reliable and trustworthy farmers, as it's different for a novice farmer to differentiate the specie of young pepper plants)

ogbongenet:

You can also soak tomatoe seed . Tomatoes seed has higher germination rate compared to pepper seed. That 700 seedlings is not too bad , if you maintain it very well just 3 times harvest will cover the cost of the seed. The one I did last I got more that 4k seedlings but I wasn't around to wet and my wife that supposed to cover up for me fell sick,i lost more than 80% of the seedlings ,very painful.

THANKS. NOTED SIR
