vickyehi: Hi, Please i need some guidance on the Canada process. It seems the information here is for folks with a Bsc/Msc in nursing, my younger sister just finished from a 3yr program at a school of nursing in Nigeria, not a bec program. what are her options to migrate to Canada? She has no work experience so I am considering having her travel via the student route since no work experience for PR but i dont even know what programs she needs to apply for because the information on the websites that i have checked is confusing...i dont know anything about nursing. What is the best course/program that she can apply to, cost effectiveness is also key so can she leverage her 3yr program from Nigeria to reduce her length of study/conversion. Ultimately the goal is for her be able to practise as a nurse here without us going bankrupt lol. Thank you for your help |

Hello people, @justmellow @frankbonn @lekkiboboe For those that have made travel plans, Is it true that IRCC now requires that we show proof of funds at the point of entry? Please see the information in the screenshot below from UBC, looks like we have to provide the banks statement that we used to apply and a new one, how true is this? I also saw similar information on IRCC(second snapshot) but IRCC just says “you must show proof of funds” they did not request for 30days statement or any specifics. My question is : will it be sufficient to show them the same bank stmt that i submitted when i applied? 1 Like

Has anyone been able to use Form A to make tuition payment via western union? So my school's only payment option for international funds transfer is via western union, when I tried to pay, CBN would not process the funds because they now have a policy that says they will not use the CBN rate to pay to third party accounts, I have an accompanying letter from the school that says Western union is processing on their behalf and the money will be remitted to them but my bank FBN contacted CBN and they just would not pay via western union. Any ideas what other options I can explore? Has anyone else dealt with this issue? The school does not accept Naira mastercard because fraud I guess so can't use card either..... 1 Like |

Insanity: I get your point, i think you were asked to present a permit “at” the school because they assumed that you will be physically present which the “normal” scenario. A study permit allows one to study “in” a country, if you are studying online you are not in the country for that period abi? Anyway let me not over-flog this issue, i am sure our schools will provide guidance. |

oma22: Yes I understand that, it makes sense. My point is why are folks saying you need a visa to attend online classes? if the school is providing that alternative for now due to covid is it not because they are aware you cannot be physically present? Is visa requirement for online classes a directive from the school or embassy or just a wrong assumption? |

mcobex: This does not make sense to me, Why would one need a visa to attend online classes? I believe the purpose of the visa is to allow entry into the country, if you will be studying online then i think it makes sense that proof of payment of fees should be sufficient for now until one needs to be physically present. It is like saying people who do online degrees need a visa? You might as well be taking an online degree at the school, does that mean one needs a visa to take online courses? |

Hello people, Please who knows what the situation is at the Lagos Vfs office regarding biometrics and the covid issue? I have been sent the biometrics letter which says I need an appointment. I tried to book an appointment on the website but there seems to be no available dates; i even tried up to August. Has anyone gone for biometrics recently or is it on hold for now? Maybe I should call instead? School resumes in September so I have limited time. Thanks |

Rollyxxmv: Thanks, I am leaning towards this position as well, I would have just submitted the forms anyway, but I am struggling with the max document size so I want to avoid unnecessary documents that will force me to compress to a point where the text is barely legible 2 Likes |

Meek127: Thanks for the quick response, i get your point, the only issue is that I have document size constraint and I have tried my best to compress, I don't want to end up with illegible documents just because I am adding things that are not even relevant in the first place |

Hello everyone, Please I have a quick question; are we required to submit the additional forms that are in the Visa office instructions document? They just seem like a repetition of the the information that i already provided in the actual CIC forms (the family information and application for study permit forms), the visa office instruction document also has a document checklist, are we meant to submit it because there is a checklist document from CIC as well. They are asking for family information all over again in the visa office form, employment history etc, not sure why this is necessary because I already completed the cic forms providing the same info. Thanks

Newww: Hi, Could you please guide me on how to submit passport on someone’s behalf? I checked the vfs website but could not find any information regarding that. I read something about a consent form, i did not see it on the vfs website as well. Would much appreciate if you could please list the items to provide including fees to be paid when submitting on behalf of someone. For the courier service to return the passport, do you know how much it costs and the duration? Sorry for the trouble Thanks |

Newmum0615: Just thought to mention that there are some food items that are not allowed into Canada, meat and meat products, dairy and dairy products etc.... in case you are not aware. They may end up being thrown away by the immigration officers in Canada if they are declared/ the bag is checked You can check the cic website for more details |

Kezz15: So sorry about your application, I suspect it might be because you have a good profile which makes it seem like you are more suitable for express entry/immigration. Also, our people who have been "abusing" the refugee program are not helping matters, they now seem to be very strict with visitor visa as it is one of the popular routes to the refugee program. They probably thought you had the same intention. |

Kentz3: Your sister should apply for a spousal open work permit- SOWP. There is an SOWP thread on Nairaland, you can visit the thread for info. Also check CIC for details on the application/eligibility requirements It does not matter that they married after her husband's visa application, you can show proof of that with the marriage certificate and also note that in your explanation letter if you wish to attach one to your application. Visit the CIC link below: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=177&top=17 1 Like |

You cannot attend school on a visitor visa, unless you will be studying for less than 6 months... you need a study permit; to get a study permit you need an admission letter from your high school.. You might want to visit the Canada CIC website, plus google search info. There is a Canada study thread on Nairaland as well but the focus is on post secondary education so not sure it will be helpful, you can try asking your questions there as well. There are guidelines for sponsoring a relative(note that this is different from just paying your expenses, it is kind of like adoption). Maybe there is a way your relatives can sponsor you to school there without a study permit, I am not sure what the conditions/rules are ? Check details on the CIC website Fiisayo99:
