sakaguchi: The issue of a consultant has being overflogged isn't it? What will a consultant nurse do? What the hell is a consultant pharmacist? The doctors who are consultants specialise in a particular field of medicine and specialize holistically in it. Consultant urologist, consultant cardiologist, consultant nephrologist is more like it.
The difference between a consultant pharmacist and a pharmacist is clearly non-existent.
Even a novice like me knows that there must be a difference between a doctor (medical officer) and a cardiologist.

Please! I think government should call JOHESU, NMA to a round table. NMA need to shelf that ego that it can't sit together with JOHESU as it as become apparent that they are relevant stake holders.

The truth is, no matter what NMA or JOHESU says, this whole brouhaha is all politics. Nigerian doctors are underpaid even if we all hate their greed. Same thing too with nurses. To maintain parity, relativity must be enshrined. This is what I think is more important. Government should make that sit of CMD less attractive. For instance, let anybody who is a CMD will have no improve package whatsoever. If you are a doctor before being appointed CMD , your pay package will remain the same. Then anybody whatsoever can vie for CMD as I seriously think that post of CMD is not the sole right of doctors. They should all strife for improve pay package and the doctors must earn higher than the nurses and pharmacists as this is how it is universally. Pharmacists earn lots of money outside the hospital. Inside the hospital, their remuneration must be lower than doctors own. Then FG should make JOHESU illegal. How can all unions in a setting gang up to face just one.

Patients are dying because of needless politics.
This to me is a patient's perspective.
Exactly my thoughts, now on the CMD, he happens to be the Oga kpata kpata in the hospital, bro those guys are large ooo, If they should be reduced to minions, how will they command the respect of other doctors like him, and these JOHESU people?
JOHESU is a nuisance and I support the illegal clause you attached to it.

Even in companies, they choose the MD from some departments that they deem vital to the organization.

The organization may have a plethora of departments but you will notice most times, the MD or GM come from core areas. If we leave politics aside (we know IM is a big problem in Nigeria) why will a sane company promote the CSO to a GM, simply because he is part of the organization? except if the company is a security company then it is right.

Now in an Engineering firm (not big companies that make every personnel to go round), (I chose firm so it could be close to a hospital setting) that renders services to a client, they mostly select GM from, Legal/Admin (rare), HR, Operations (most likely), BD (most likely), and Accts (rare occasions) except where they are rendering financial services, then the Accounts guy will be more qualified to be the GM.

Liken it to a hospital where the doctor by default is the only guy that goes round the whole depts before he specializes, it is common sense to leave CMD for him. Unless the others will expand their curriculum to be as broad as that of the doctors then i am OK with the rotation thing.

adeoladrg: NMA has confused the public with this 'own the patient' talk. TF? Who cares?

Been a consultant pharmacist doesn't mean I want to own the patient!!! It just means I want to undergo residency in a particular field say endocrinology just like my colleagues all over the world to have a robust knowledge on drug optimization.

I don't care if you own the patient or not! So far I can't make my impact felt in the patients drug profile, make sure there's no drug interaction, no side effect, no overdosage or underdosage and the myriads of adverse effects associated with polypharmacy.

Own the patients! Who careshuh!!!

Moreover, you've own the patients over the years! What do you have to show? Wrong diagnosis, wrong prescription, unnecessary surgery, at all iatrogenic issues. Doctors abroad know the value of other health professionals undergoing residency, that's why we keep running there for treatment. Own the gullible patients!!!

This is a doctor's perspective jor!!!

I'd be waiting for the day the patients would form an association, sue the doctors, sue the pharmacists, sue the nurses, sue the med lab scientists, sue everybody in healthcare. That day and only on that day would salvation visit the health of Nigerians.
You want to be a consultant but you don't want to own the patient, grin grin bros I disagree completely with you, we don't need more bureaucracies in our health sector.

malbruno: my dear, u have Said it all, just an addition d consultants are meant to specialize in a particular area of study like consultant gyenocologist, consultant urologist etc. Their role differ, so it will be for Consultant chem pathologist, consultant haematologist consultant pharmacist when they have got the requisit qualification. How is it affecting other consultants who shld face their own specialty. what kind egocentric set of human beings
Even as an Engineer, you cant tell me that crap you spewed up there, before a doctor specializes in Uriology, or gynecology like you alleged, kindly tell us the courses he has to pass to become a consultant at the same time, Juxtapose it with what a Pharmacist has to pass to become a consultant, the last time I checked, a Uniben trained D pharm. was giving a friend of mine with 3rd degree hemorrhoid suppository for 2.5yrs.

Thanks to the consultant who did the magic that relieved him.

If we allow the Pharmacists to rise to consultancy level, will they be able to own the patient? will their consultancy class include surgery? if the answer is "NO" then of what use are they to the patients and the Govt who is expected to pay them a huge amount of money?

How long will it take before a consultant Nurse (who cannot own a patient by the way) will start demanding for a harmonized salary with the consultant doctor?

It is unnecessary bureaucracy and I am with NMA on this one.

So we are clear, if you read that thing I wrote up there and mistake me for a doctor then, if you are a medical practitioner, your sense of judgement is greatly impaired, If you want to know how doctors write read Phantom's post.
Like the Thread title suggests, this is for the patients, the Doctors and the "Doctor wanna be" can excuse us!!

Just in case "you" (assuming you are one of the doctor wannabe) who want to own patients, be rest assured that will only happen in the vertinary clinics because I can bet you that patient wont be me.

Health › Nma Strike: The Patients's Perspective by jpphilips(op):
It has been a week since the Nigerian doctors down tools, and ever since, health care delivery in Nigeria have not remained the same.
Before I decided to open this thread, I wanted to holistically fix culpability where it belongs, from the "for" and "against" threads here, I got hold of the following demands by the doctors. I am not in anyway undermining the other demands of the Doctors, but for the purpose of emphasis I wish to dissect the demands that will directly or indirectly affect the patients.

While I implore the Doctors to quickly resolve their differences in the interest of the patients, there are some demands I consider legitimate and should not be compromised under any guise. The reason I hold tenaciously to this opinion is the fact that those demands if not met, will likely put the lives of the patients in grave danger. these demands are as follows;

The title “Consultant” in a hospital setting describes the relationship between the Specialist Medical Doctor and his patient. It will be a source of confusion if the title is applied to any other health worker who statutorily does not own patient. NMA therefore declares with unmitigated emphasis that if “non-doctor consultants” are appointed, it will lead to chaos and anarchy in the health sector. This should not happen.
I was meant to understand that JOHESU is at the fore front of demanding for the position of "consultant" in their various fields. As a patient who care less about medical politics and bureaucracy, I was meant to understand that the Doctor consultant actually owns the patient, by "owning" I mean calls the final shot on the treatment regime of a patient.
The big question is; what qualifies a consultant doctor (not any charge and bail doctor) to own a patient?

Research has proven that the Consultant doctor is one who has a general knowledge of every aspect of medicine who later specializes in a single aspect. That gives him the academic superiority to claim responsibility on the welfare of a patient, then I ask; what is wrong with that?

who else in the Hospital is a contender, JOHESU is demanding that the Lab scientist can become a consultant, then in my Medical naive I asked on what grounds?
Till date (probably the outcome of this thread will give me a convincing answer) I am yet to hear any logical reason as to why that needs to happen.

the first question I asked was, will the consultant Lab scientist own the patient? If the Answer is "YES" then why will I entrust the last call on my treatment in the hands of a lab scientist who knows nothing about my pulmonary disease which requires a surgery he cannot perform?

If the answer is "NO" then why do we need that "half baked consultant" that cannot own a patient? Further more, I was meant to understand that the consultant position is highly respected and it comes with benefits and perks (economic motivation), could it be that JOHESU is targeting these benefits? let us find out.

Permit me to reproduce a conversation I had in a radio phone programme where a theater nurse was a guest in the said programme:

me: Why don't you want to expand your curriculum so that as an experienced Theater nurse you will have the opportunity of being a surgeon?

Nurse: We are not allowed to do that

Me: who are the "we"?

Nurse: Our various Unions and other medical regulatory bodies.

Me: Those unions are supposed to be protecting your interest just like the NMA is protecting the Doctors, why will such a Union impede your academic growth and professionalism?

Nurse: That is left for the nursing guild to answer

Me: how many times have nurses gone on strike this year be it warning or indefinite?

Nurse: once or twice im not sure

me: what were their demands?

Nurse: better work package etc

Me: and you guys forgot the most important thing that would develop your career to be apar with doctors and other health care professionals,
which will help the patient in various ways, eg is when a surgeon/theater nurse is in the clinic and an emergency case comes in, don't you think that the theater nurse/surgeon can save that life in the absence of the doctor?

Nurse: We have to attend to other callers.
From the above conversation, you can easily deduce that the whole strike is just petty politics and unmerited power tussle, my own annoyance is that people who want to live and earn like consultants refuse to broaden their curriculum to acquire more knowledge but they want to enjoy like people who have accomplished theirs.

If a theater nurse who have spent countless years in a Theater with a surgeon will not go on strike for the Govt to extend her curriculum to cover other areas of health care delivery, why will she be interested in being a consultant?

The second argument is that it is obtainable outside Nigeria (of course, countries not plagued by nepotism and corruption like ours), this is the most ridiculous because every country has the reserve to make laws that suit their environment, juxtaposing foreign health care delivery with Nigeria's is laughable.

Let us quickly look at the following facts to dissect the actual medical practice we need to import from abroad;

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) - have initiated countless cases against nurses in the United States, between 1998 and 2001, they have initiated well over 413 cases of malpractice,http://www.nursingcenter.com/lnc/journalarticle?article_id=423284

Fellow Nigerians, I am still waiting for the day JOHESU will go on strike to demand for a law or act that will empower it to prosecute its members for "Negligence" as it is obtainable elsewhere viz a viz "International best practices" or are we saying that Nigerians don't loose their lives in the care of JOHESU members? JOHESU in their infinite wisdom is demanding for the big title "consultant" but uninterested in taking responsibility for the welfare of the patient, neither are they interested in a broad curriculum for effective health care delivery that will benefit the patient in the long run, all they are interested is "GIVE THEE THY TITLE OH! GOVT, FOR WE SHALL CHOP LIKE THE DOCTORS AT ALL COST" it is a shame, nothing in it for the patients.

Since JOHESU is kind enough to borrow "international best practices" let us look further;

In the United states, nurses are entitled to great tax benefits, reimbursements for academic career advances/school loans-sign on and relocation bonuses for less work!

The bold part is an incentive that will motivate a nurse to improve academically for a better health care delivery, I am yet to hear that JOHESU wants to strike for the inability of the Govt. to provide such academic soft landing.

At this verge I am forced to conclude that JOHESU is not interested in anything that will advance their members academically but that big name that will guarantee more money in their pockets. it is a shame.

Relativity in health sector is sacrosanct. The NMA hereby demands for immediate implementation of the January 3rd, 2014 circular. The NMA also demands the immediate payment of the arrears of the corrected relativity for 22 years during which her members were short changed.
As much as I am of the opinion that the controversial arrears should be negotiated in the interest of patients with terminal illness, however ,NMA "MUST" not compromise on Relativity.
Relativity I was meant to understand is the parity in earning between doctors and other health care providers.

Nature follows the path of least resistance, the reason people still study hard to aspire to go through the rigors of medical school is because of the perks that comes with being a doctor, those privileges "MUST" never be compromised.

Any attempt to harmonize their benefit will not only enthrone incompetence in health care delivery but will make medicine unattractive.
why will i go through medical school when I will enjoy same benefit with a doctor as a parasitologist?

We lost most of our best Doctors to Saudi Arabia in the 80's in related circumstance.

On what grounds should an air hostess earn the same as the Pilot? just because she feels she serves coffee to the passengers? what kind of logic are we throwing around in Nigeria? If an air hostess want the same perks and privilege as a Pilot, by all means the Aeronautic school is open for anyone to go through the stress.

There must be parity in benefit for all the health care workers, If you want to chop like a consultant, kindly go through medical school, you cannot reap where you did not sow.

To believe that people who ended up in Nursing, Physiotherapy, Bio chemistry, Medical lab science were actually people who couldn't make it past MB exams or some who the JAMB cut off truncated their desire to be doctors, In the Hospital you want "Harmonized salaries" with doctors, what an ambition!!

If you like the official vehicle or the house incentive given to your CMD, by all means go to the medical school. we don't honor hard work in this country, The super eagles trained consistently for over 3yrs to qualify and prosecute the Nations cup qualifiers, the Nation's cup, the world cup qualifiers and the world cup proper, in the middle of the tournament, the FA is still haggling with their bonuses.

when are we going to enthrone merit and hard work in this country? nobody wants to work hard but they want the best life, look at the judiciary furore in this country, the judiciary is handicapped because there are so many loop holes in our laws, to believe it is our highest paid public servants that made those s!lly laws is disheartening.

You cannot give a doctor his deserved honor but we spend billions on militants, thieves whose radicalism nearly crippled our economy.

The position of Chief Medical Director/Medical Director must continue to be occupied by a Medical Doctor as contained in the Act establishing the tertiary Hospitals. This position remains sacrosanct and untouchable.
On what grounds is JOHESU members interested in the CMD (chief medical director) position? hope we are not looking at another monster resembling "federal character", "rotation of office" in our health care delivery system?

Permit me to borrow this perspective from Aura to buttress on this ill

the people who are supporting JUHEsU or whatever are people who have not realized why the doctors are striking, they are still laced with the emotion that doctors abandoned their patients but i tell you guys, if you have the least idea what these nurses and paramedicals are asking for, you will weep for this country.

If the NMA should return to work, the following situations are likely gonna play out.

1 as a patient under a consultant radiographer whose curriculum is limited to radiography and a few basic medical courses will have the final say on how you will be treated, before now, it used to be a doctor's call.

2, the leadership of the hospital, hitherto have been doctors, now these charlatans want to head a hospital too, what it simply means is that a physiotherapist CMD can tell a doctor how to treat you when he knows nothing about surgery that a doctor knows,
or an Aux nurse CMD can ask a surgeon to conduct a surgery with flash light aka "torch" after all, it is a minor surgery, what does she know?

Solution:

The Govt through the NOA should embark on a sensitization campaign, outlining the implications of this transition, after which there will be a referendum where we the patients will vote.

I cant Imagine a registered nurse who have been packing sh:t and p:ss all her life in the ward will one day become a CMD and decide for a doctor how to conduct his surgery.

The patients that will die on this senseless beuraucracy will be far higher than what will die now as a result of this industrial action, as a result, I implore the NLC, the TUC, PENGASSAN, NUPENG to join the NMA in solidarity because the politicians will take their wards abroad while we suffer for this senseless directive.

We run a doctors only CMD hospitals in Nigeria.

Now I want the paramedicals to base their arguments on the following points.

1 The UME and post UME cut off points for doctors and paramedicals for the last 10yrs, by schools with recognized college of medicine.

2 School fees: medicine vs others (since remuneration have become an issue)

3 The curriculum of a doctor from part 1 to consultancy vs the others.

4 from point 1,3 above, we can now decide whom the CMD cap fits.

Health › Re: Seriously, Doctors Are Small gods - Funke Egbemode (Sun News) by jpphilips(m): 11:33am On Jul 14, 2014
Hearme: St Gerald Hospital is run by an administrator. Its a big hospital in Kaduna in which many consultants and other health professionals do work. We only have a weak law here in Nigeria. That an issue has been legitimate for a thousand years does not make it right. We as individuals must embrace change. What I expect the NMA to do is not to begin to antagonize but as intellectuals think well to fight a good cause for their members. E.g Technologist in the universities fought for an upgrade of their Hazard allowance they got it, but a science lecturer who is involved in the practicals and research does not earn that hazard allowance because his union did not fight for that thus all lectures irrespective of the position earn 4K as hazard per annum which is equivalent to about 333.33 naira montly. NMA should think deep and act like the senior union rather than arguing and quarrelling. Remember ASUU fought during the strike but what was released was for all unions even though it was only the salaries of ASUU members that were stopped.
An administrator + doctor + other health workers = St Gerald

Govt before now and NMA says:

Doctor + other health workers = General/teaching hospitals

If the doctor has an MBA or a diploma in business administration it will save the Govt a lot in hiring another administrator who is just a zombie in medical matters.
It is called maximizing personnel for greater output. Option 2 is OK! by me.

You don't want an Administrator to tell a surgeon to use a lantern to do a procedure because he read somewhere in google that it is a minor procedure, is that what you want?

I strongly disagree with you that we should leave Canada, US, UK out of it. Why should we? Why should other health professionals be able to become consultants in other countries but in Nigeria it must not be so because of the insecurities or fear of doctors.
You really want to play the Canada card? please for your own safety don't, because I will embarrass you by mentioning three very important courses and clinical practice done by Canadian nurses while their Nigerian counterparts are yet to hear of them.
Like I advised, the Nigerian environment/problems requires a Nigerian solution.

What should be done I say again is to address those fear and securities. You can't say no no no... this must never be.

The way I see it, doctors are trying to be in Nigeria what their counterpart are not in other countries.
The Nigerian doctor cannot be scared of "baby nurse", the same way a SAN is not scared of any "charge and bail lawyer".
I beg to differ on the choice of language "insecure" because the last time I checked, NMA has never stopped any accredited MBBS holder from practicing except in extra ordinary circumstances, hence if NMA doesn't mind people joining them, why would they be fidgeting over the para medicals?
Even if you are a nurse today and wish to be a doctor, Jamb, Direct entry, Pre science, and NMA will be more than happy to have you in their midst, so where is the insecurity coming from?

How come the consultants of other countries have not taken over patient care over from the doctors? Whatever is that reason. it should be replicated here.

But I know you're are not interested in any of this. Let me tell you. The world is changing. Repression will always give way to the pressure of change.
Okay, now I see clearly where you are driving at, now let us dissect the first paragraph of your comment, hitherto, the consultant Doctors own the patient, now you want to be a consultant nurse but you don't want to own the patient, does it sound right to you? Is this not one of the reasons Suarez bite people? grin

A teaching hospital I know Pays a consultant doctor about 750k monthly excluding other perks for owning the patient, now you a nurse who want to be a consultant will tomorrow hold the Govt by the jugular demanding the same amount (after all, you are all consultants) meanwhile, the consultant nurse cannot even own a patient, why do we need those unproductive bureaucracies in our health care delivery? the ones done by the politicians isn't that enough?
where is the wisdom in this plan of yours?

For how long do you think doctors can prevent other health professionals from becoming consultants. If there are becoming consultants in other parts of the world, then eventually, doctors will not be able to stop it from happening in Nigeria. Try and learn something from history. It's just a matter of time.

The earlier doctors comes to terms with this the better.
Doctors are not preventing you from anything, they are asking you that as a consultant nurse, once you enter a Nigerian hospital, shove it in ur throat because the Doctor owns the patient based on academic superiority, is that too much to ask?

Ewuro1: Getting through to a partner who doesn't listen is frustrating, difficult, and likely to seem like an exercise in futility once you get exasperated enough. It's not necessarily that your partner doesn't want to listen to you; he or she may simply lack active listening skills. Sometimes, of course, there are deeper issues at fault. Every relationship is different, so you'll have to consider why your spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend isn't listening to you. Whatever the case, getting through to a partner who doesn't listen isn't impossible – it just requires some dedication and patience.

CONSIDER YOUR DELIVERY

How do you talk to your partner? Do you stage a frustrated ambush at the end of the day? Start complaining about something days after it happened, after it's had time to build up and blow up? If you want to start getting through to a partner who doesn't listen, you have to think about the way you approach the situation. Every person is different, and your partner may do better with a different delivery method. Think, too, about how you like to be spoken to, and try to approach your partner the same way.
What qualifies one a partner in the first place when the so called partner don't listen?

Doctors are not saying others should not be consultants? Are u sure about that? From all we've been hearing it does seems so.
If you are a consultant and you don't own a patient, of what use is your consultancy? Doctors want to own the patient and I agree completely with that.

Then I refuse to believe that nurses, pharmacists etc. are dragging superiority in patient care with doctors.
Why then do they want to be consultants if they don't want to own the patient? so you advocate they answer consultants, earn fat salaries while the doctor (suffer head) owns the patient, of what use is that to us as a Nation?

Then I've said before, medical practice didn't start in Nigeria; do other health professionals in US, UK, Canada become consultants? It seems they do.
Nigeria problems require Nigerian solution, leave Canada out of this.

If so, why should it be a taboo in Nigeria. I understand in Nigeria, we always like to abuse the system, therefore rules, regulations, and stringent requirement only need to be put into place so that there won't be abuse or any health professional overstepping his/her bounds.
Exactly one part of my argument, has the strident laws been made? when will JOHESU go on strike for the govt's failure in making the laws?
Is this not why the doctors are saying "NO" because JOHESU is putting the cart before the horse? like I said abinitio, has JOHESU gone on strike for the inability of Govt to expand their curricula? I am still waiting for them.

I believe you should change the laws that guide your existence first, expand your curricula to have the required knowledge before fighting for consultancy, that is what common sense have on my table, i don't know about you

But to put a blanket no no no on any other health professional apart from doctors becoming consultant doesn't seem right.

With the right rules, regulations and requirements put in place, it means not every dick & harry will become consultants. Among these other health professionals, we will have people that are geniuses amongst them. They should be able to aspire to the peak of their careers, making use of the benefits that comes from being recognized as a consultant in your field.

Hearme: 90% of doctors are arrogant. You know only the surface of Biochemistry and physiology. I challenge you to a debate on this. If a PhD holder starts at level 10 equivalent in the university, no honors degree should be granted a level 12 equivalent. Anyway I don't so much blame the doctors, I blame the lawmakers who have spent 15 good years in this dispensation of democracy doing nothing, yet collecting all. If our labour laws and salaries and wages commission do function well there will be less crisis in the system. Only that none of them are seeing, yet they have committees overseeing everything in this country. Its a shame that the ASUP strike is still on and the ASUU issues are still been toyed with. Labour issues might never end unless the political appointees begins to think straight. I'm still baffled that a 8 years serving governor who solicited for your vote to lead is entitled to a live pension while workers who worked for 35years are told to do contributory pension scheme. Why can't the president and governors do contributory pension from their official salary? Why should they enjoy free medical health after stealing much from us? Its really a pain that there is no fairness or even a slight equity in our nation. This challenges will continue unless a thinking government sees to it. I'm not sure confab is dealing with labour issues appropriately at all. PLEASE VOTE WISELY IN 2015.
There is no doubt you may be a guru in Biochemistry or physio, but Imagine where the doctor has to be a guru in your field and other fields you may not have heard of?
so tell me honestly, who deserves to own the patient on merit? you "one way guru" or the doctor who happens to be an "all round guru", answer honestly.

The day a physiotherapist heads a hospital and a Biochemist owns a patient that day will be my last in any Nigerian hospital running such insane structure.

the problem with Nigerians is that they don't have a fore sight, they don't know how to analyze scenarios and fix culpability where it belongs, It begs whether the average Nigerian is even educated.
JOHESU's demand will kill more patients than this strike, but you guys refuse to see, when it manifests you run to courts and ojota in protest, or perhaps, run to the church as usual.

The subsidy removal was announced April 2011, Nigerians being dumb people did not protest, why? because they were not able to string the relationship between subsidy and increased cost of living.

January 2012, they went to the gas station and met triple the price of gas, they went to transport companies and saw triple the fare, they took to the street and started disturbing Ojota, meanwhile the 2012 budget did not even carry the so called subsidy because the Govt thought the people were Ok! with it.

the demonstrations even came to the politicians as a surprise which begs the question? why was there no protest before January?
Ans: the average Nigerian is a m0r0n who doesn't know, foresee or understand how govt policies affect him, fortunately, Our doctors have proved they are no ordinary Nigerians, they have shown they have the academic will to look into the future to analyze the demerits of this Govt senseless policy and have the strength to stand up to it.

Liken this present scenario with President Sarkorzy's Labor law, in less than 24hrs, Paris was shut down in protest, people were able to analyze critically the demerits of the law because they have functional brains, what do we get in Nigeria, people who cannot think beyond their lips insulting and crucifying doctors, for fighting for their own future.

If Nigerians have sense, they should be on the street with placards protesting for the law to be reversed, the TUC and NLC should be on solidarity strike, that will spare the doctors the stress of going on strike and concentrate on their jobs, but hey! we are Nigerians whose IQ rival that of a Nematode for us to have the temerity to insult doctors for saving our future.

Has any of you including the Sun news writer taken time to juxtapose the curriculum of the Doctor with that of JOHESU members? none of them came close at consultancy level, and I will challenge any of you to prove me wrong. with such ridiculous curriculum you want to head the hospital and own the patient? kai, Nigeria is a disgrace as a country. As a matter of fact, the Health minister or whoever proposed that nonsense should be jailed without trial.

A consultant lab scientist can never own a patient, not any member of my family, God forbid! and forbid again. The NMA MUST not allow this sacrilege to happen, unless they expand their curriculum to be a par with doctors, anything short is not acceptable!!

but then, what do I know, JOHESU is interested in only the benefits, that is why they say the doctors are stopping them from getting a higher pay, when will JOHESU strike for their curriculum to be broadened so they will be a par with the doctors in academia? I am still waiting for that day!!

To JOHESU, it is about the benefits and money, to Doctors, it is about a senseless govt who wants to torpedo academic superiority and enthrone mediocrity in our health care delivery.

God forbid!!

Obi411: This is pure emotional blackmail. Too bad that it is coming from one whom lives are entrusted to. What do you make of soldiers whose duty is to protect the very lives [which you have betrayed now] with their own lives? How many of them have died in the quest? And their bodies are still counting. Yet they are never spoken of, maybe because they never spent 6, or so, years in the university. Or perhaps, they do not pride in the glory of this great responsibility that has been laid on them, as you do now. Understand this: the greatest people on earth are never heard of. Lest you boast in vain glorification of a privilege given to you. Are medical doctors gods? No, they simply are tools in the hand of the Creator. Let them go back to work, knowing fully well that their calling is a service to humanity, which can never be fully requited here on earth. But wait: even a medical doctor earns more than a soldier!
As much as I appreciate your counter argument, I still beg to differ as regards your reference to soldiers, every profession enjoys a level of privilege depending on your level of professionalism.

let us stick to the Doctor -soldier analogy, the Soldiers enjoy their perks as well not just doctors, if in doubt, ans the following questions;

Who drives from cotonou to Nigeria without paying a single Govt revenue?
who drives a vehicle for 22yrs and for that period never renewed his papers?
who is that privileged citizen whose kids go to command schools free?
who is that citizen who can access health care anywhere in the country in any military hospital free?
who is that citizen who drives without a license and nobody dare ask him questions?
Who drives on BRT lane?
who scratches your car on the road, confiscates yours while you fix his?
who by an unfortunate accident of their demise in the hands of a civilian and the nation comes to a stop?
who buys land but pays nothing to both state, LGA, Omonile, Obioakkpor and other revenues, by the sign post "MIlitary zone" every evil is kept at bay?
who uses electricity for over 30yrs and never pays his bill and nobody coughs?
who has the power to arrest any civilian and beat the living day light out of you yet nobody coughs?
who enters any public transport and never pays a dime by virtue of his uniform?
who has the right to commit any crime of his choice by virtue of his uniform?
Who is that privileged citizen who is not tried in conventional courts, he is tried by friends and colleagues in the name of court marshal?

If you agree soldiers enjoy some certain privileges, why wont the doctors enjoy theirs?
Doctors have said, leave consultancy for us, anybody who wish to have that tag should kindly enroll in the medical school, is it too much to ask?

Djtm: They are just pissing me off!!! Wtf? Our government is a very useless one for this sort of crap to be going on! What's their own concern about how much other specialists are paid? As long as you're paid what you're worth, you shouldn't care about what others earn. If a programmer has worked for a certain number of years, has so much experience under his belt, he has the right to become a consultant programmer. IMO, doctors are overhyped in Nigeria. Well, our leaders do not give a sh1t, so people can continue to die as long as they can afford to go abroad once they have a slight headache.
I HAVE SAID IT OVER TIME! JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO AN OPINION DOES NOT MEAN IT IS WORTHY OF PUBLIC CONSUMPTION, SOME OPINION ARE BETTER OFF AT THE BEER PARLOR OR YABA LEFT DEPENDING ON WHERE THE CRANIAL MATTER TOOK A LEAVE.

For the umpteenth time, Doctors are not asking other fields not to have consultants, neither are they asking them not to strike for salary increment, Doctors are saying that their consultancy is higher than theirs so when you bring yours to the hospital, the Doctor still owns the patient.

Doctors were asked; why like dat? (in Chinese voice) and they said that the Academic curriculum they use to attain to that level is too broad and the other fields are narrowed so they shouldn't be apar. now I have looked at the merits of their arguments and the Doctors are right. (it depends on your IQ level anyways).

You cannot study radiography, specialize in radiography, learn technical certifications on how to fix and maintain X ray machines then you come and say you want to become a consultant, Bros, if you have sense (which I doubt anyways) it is an Insult to doctors and the Federal Govt is so drunk, stup!!d and senseless to allow that injustice to happen.

When I called into a radio programme last night I asked the theater nurse who is the guest on the programme,

Why don't you want to expand your curriculum so that as an experienced Theater nurse you will have the opportunity of being a surgeon?

From the above conversation, this whole strike is just petty politics and unmerited power tussle, my own annoyance is that people who want to live and earn like consultants refuse to broaden their curriculum to acquire more knowledge but they want to enjoy like people who have accomplished theirs.

It is clear that JOHESU whatever they are called are thieves.

You join the Nigerian Army through Direct short service while your counterpart goes through 5yrs NDA of intensive drilling, yet you want your benefits to be a par?

You join the Nigerian police force today and next year you want to be DIG1, is life that easy for Africans?
why do we love shortcuts?

You sleep 24hrs in a day on Sunday armed with your tithe, you expect the "windows of heaven to open" because Malachi told you so, even God will charge you for cheating his kingdom if you ever get such unmerited favor.

An article which started so well, all of a sudden turn around to be "yorubaying" and "APCying".
Does it mean that this tribe actually pay some people's bills? I don't really wanna sound anti Bigotry (though I am one anyways) I don't seem to understand why Nigerians have misplaced their priorities so much.

You started so well talking about how the Nazi hijacked the Govt, all of a sudden, you mixed politics with tribe, does yoruba as a tribe pay your bills? I am really lost, what do you guys benefit from your tribes that you revere it so much?
wow! perhaps I am a loner in this case, I get suprised when peoeple take religion and tribe too seriously in this part of the world, damn!

Can someone kindly enlighten me on James Cameron's Tribe, abeg!!

barcanista: Igbos keep re-canting Asari statement but forget that HIS views on Biafra has always been his views and NOT Ijaw views...because of his maternal Igbo link.
His granny had to be kicked out of the Kalabari throne, his family NEVER benefited from the properties declared abandoned because they "WORKED" against the Ijaw Interest! His own relatives moved against his family and it was clear in his STATEMENT that Ijaws fought against the Igbos during the War. That Asari is allowed to Speak today is because we see all Ijaw blood as brothers and ijaws are very forgiving but not forgetting. I can vouch that no member of Asari lineage can assume the Royalty stool in Kalabari Kingdom. His views, history and position on Igbo does not represent Ijaw nation... Neither IYC nor INC shares his view.

Asari nor his Father thru his grandfather has never been the voice of the Ijaw nation NOR any member of his immediate family
Is this the latest ploy by the Jonathan's spokes man AKA Asari to buy the Eastern votes? Tell him that I had no shoes sounded like Y2k compliant in 2011, this prolly sounds like sh!t, he should be kind enough to give us the remix

Aksonman: Two months ago over 250 Chibok girls sheepishly followed their abductors into bondage.

Now we are hearing news that 45 Chibok women that had just escaped Boko Haram's captivity have been recaptured?

Something is not right with Chibok.

There's a major scam going on in that town called Chibok.

How come we are just hearing about recapture of these escapees barely hours after news emerged that the Nigerian military routed a major Boko Haram base, killing 44 and arresting two foregn mercenaries?

Is this a media propaganda to swiftly discredit and dillute Nigerian Army's recent successes?

Asari Dokubo may be right afterall!!!
If you were not a f00l (pls forgive my language) America who has proven to have one of the best intelligence agencies in the world, who by military superiority can take you, your president and Asari on a second round of slavery if they wish, have come out to tell you, that though some people are sympathetic to the boko cause, there is no tangible evidence that the Boko movement has a significant political undertone,

Yet, dog brains like you (pls forgive my language again) in dis belief will rather rely on the intelligence report of Asari dokubo, (a mere thief who burns Pipelines in the middle of the night after stealing crude there in), to open semi senseless threads on nairaland.

you need to see a shrink ASAP!!
