Yes, Iran is a dangerous country that spews violent rhetoric and arms terrorists. However, they were talking, negotiating when they were attacked. Last year and this year. So no, I don't want them annihilated this time.

PoliticsWhy President Tinubu Should Temporarily Subsidise PMS by JuanDeDios(op): 7:59pm On Mar 20
During the media chat, when Mr Kolade-Otitoju asked the President about "price control" and the president dismissed it in favour of tackling the causes of price rises, I said, "Finally, a president that understands basic economics."

But when he recently said he would not reintroduce subsidies on petroleum products in the face of rising prices due to the war between Trump and Netanyahu and Iran, I realised we may be dealing with an administration whose policymaking is steeped in dogma.

Serious leaders the world over recognise the dangers of the current energy situation and are taking steps to mitigate the effects on their people.

In Europe, Germany, Belgium, Italy and others are introducing price caps on petroleum products (meaning the government will subsidize the prices if they rise beyond a certain point).

Denmark, Austria and Italy are paying lump sums to poor households to help them cope.

Spain, Poland and others are reducing all sorts of VATs, duties and taxes to rein in energy prices.

Note that these are not oil-producing countries profiting from rising crude prices. Nigeria, on the other hand, is set to make a "windfall" from the rising prices. So one wonders why Mr Tinubu's advisers have not told him of the need to take a little of the cash they've raked in since subsidy was declared "gone" or the one they're set to make now to subsidize petrol prices at the pump.

The critique of the subsidy regime in the past is that it was heavily compromised by corruption. Well, I'm sure they can do it better now since we won't have to do import-based subsidies. They can simply work with local refineries and work out a tidy crude swap process by which a designated amount of crude can be refined for local use.

All analysts are saying that the worst is yet to come - Iran is not backing down; several oil, gas and refining facilities have now been hit and will take a long time to fix; and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. People can't go to work. Nigerians are facing rising poverty. The recent economic gains

stronger GDP growth rate
naira stability
reduced inflation
rising foreign reserves
better stock market performance
falling debt-to-GDP ratio
better trade balance

the country has made will be wiped out by hyperinflation. For the much-touted gains of subsidy removal, it's going to be one step forward and two backward.

I know Nigerians are a compliant people so the government can sleep easy even as they prepare for elections. But subsidizing PMS now - until the crisis is over - is the right thing to do. I hope President Tinubu does it.

How on earth is anyone allowed to withdraw 15million naira cash. Such amount must have a lot of justification. Why can't we have simple paper trail. i want to assume the ransom was not done by bank transfer.
NO ransom was paid in this case. Thank God. But, yes, people have paid in excess of 15m in the past. And, yes, it shows our security system isn't up to scratch if people are able to pay that kind of money and the bandits are able to disappear with it.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Spends ₦9 Trillion Importing Petrol by JuanDeDios: 8:45am On Mar 20
Brendaniel:
So with all the noise Tinubu and his supporters made about the success of his subsidy removal and Dangote refinery, Nigeria is still importing petrol like subsidy was never removed and Dangote refinery is not even existing.

Now the funny and annoying part is that, Nigeria now spends more on importation of oil and oil products, Dangote spent about 3 billion dollars importing crude oil, Nigeria is spending 9 trillion importing fuel that Dangote would have refined and given Nigerians to use if they had a good arrangement between the FG and his refinery, are we going to call this situation a lose-lose for Nigeria as a country?

Ribadu better continue the string of successes we've seen in the last few weeks. Otherwise, we'll start screaming his name again. And they better do something about rounding up the bandits now kidnapping and murdering all over the country. Killing some Islamists and bandits in some northern states is not enough.

Knew or ought to have known??
How?
If you enter the villa by virtue of invitation, the security will deny you access, if access is granted, you can't be held for trespass, not to now talk of bringing you back after you have left for trespassing.
How do you know who grants approval for access to a premises when you are not an occupant of the premises, despite the fact that Tinubu is the president and landlord of the villa, is he directly responsible for granting access to the premises?
The palace should face the security that grant access without due clearance not the visitor
You really think that if Mr Pella filled out a form and went through the front gate, we'd be having this conversation?

The question of WHO grants access would depend on the parts of the palace he entered. If someone bribed your gateman to enter house, enters your bedroom, takes a selfie and posts it on SM, crooning about how much he admires you and always wanted to see your bedroom, I’m sure you’d be furious. I don’t know where Mr Pela entered, but I know the palace is a tourist site and the council won’t have reacted if he restricted himself to the touristy/visitor places. In going beyond these places, he knew (or ought to have known) that he was trespassing. The moment someone tells you “I can get you in. Come by 4 o’clock,” you're conniving. The fact that person is a royal, a chief or a palace staff in any capacity doesn’t make it above board.

OlujobaSamuel:
If a tenant or occupier of your property brings a visitor that you are not pls with, you tell the host to tell the visitor to leave, you have no business with the visitor as long as he or she never damage or steal anything from your property
If the "visitor" knew (or ought to have known) that they were not allowed there and they took steps to evade the firewalls put in place by getting an occupant or even a guard to let them in through a backdoor, they may be liable for trespassing. You don't need to steal or damage anything to be liable for trespassing.

Clearly, this was no routine visit by a regular person to the occupier of a regular property. This is a "content creator" on a "national tour" who decided to include the palace in his "tour" for "content".

Like I already said, the palace has no power to summon him since they're not court or police, but they can certainly bring charges if they don't get the apology they're seeking.

Anyone that knows Peller should tell him not to ever consider going back there to apologize, instead he should send emissaries that can talk to the Oba on his behalf....That Oba no get joy o and he no send......
Good advice. He should apologize, but he doesn't need to go there.

What’s so special about Oba of Bini palace, they should get rid of all these nonsense monarchy in Nigeria that impoverishing and subjugating people in the name of being a king 👑 🤴
Unauthorized entry isn't about a palace. If someone entered your house in a way you find inappropriate, you'd be upset too. And there won't anything impoverishing or subjugating about that.

Peller and his handlers should apologise to the Benin Monarch
Yeah, I think he should apologize for his unauthorized entry. The palace has no power to declare anybody wanted, but he disrespected them and should apologize for that.

Declared wanted?

"Unauthorized access"? Did he force himself into the palace? Or, was the palace left without guards?

I am not his fan, but I think that declaring him wanted is extreme.
If he entered without authorization, that's an authorized access.

But, yes, the palace has no power to declare anybody wanted. If he broke the law, their only recourse is to report to the police or bring a civil case - whichever is appropriate.
