The Nigerian Senate has approved N30,000 as the new national minimum wage.

The approval came subsequent to the submission of the report of the ad hoc committee set up to review the minimum wage. The committee was headed by Senator Francis Alimikhena.

The decision was taken at the plenary session on Tuesday.

A request was also made to the Nigerian government to submit a supplementary budget, which would include the structure of the new national minimum wage.

The House of Representatives had also earlier approved the new figure as the national minimum wage.

Hello my fellow NLers,

I have been spending quite sometime on this forum recently, TBH, it has been informative, entertaining & quite educative.

I am presently in a dilemma and I need urgent input from experienced NLers, I believe we have experienced career people here that must have gone through what am going through at the moment.

I got a job about 6months ago, its quite a good job, thanks to Nairaland job section, on resumption I notice there was a total overhaul of my dept, all former staff were fired and we were employ to replace them. I resume same day with my Dept Manager two months later a junior officer was employ to join us.

I have had a fantastic relationship with my manager the past six months, and we are in good terms, we drive home together everyday, we chat, have quality conversation, even lunch together etc. but am really becoming worried about something else....

My manger seems to take credit for all my work, he somehow deny me opportunity to prove my worth to top management. Now I will give you a typical instance.

Whenever our GMD comes around, there is always a meeting with one rep from each dept. not neccessarily the departmental head, in his absence am suppose to represent the department, he denies me of opportunity like this.


He has on many occassions deny my opportunity to meet the GMD on job related issues, when the GMD needs to see someone from my dept. or sign some documents even in his absence, he either call me to handover documents to the GMD secretary or send an office assistant to drop the document.

Furthermore, on resumption, I noticed the coy still run their account dept manually, an accounting software was introduce, a software i have used for years, which he (my Manager) is not familiar with, though after the software was deploy, we were trained, even after the training he seems not to know his way around the software interface, i single handedly automated all historial data for the previous 2yrs, and my manager took the credit at the magt meetings. Without even mentioning my name, its really annoying.

I am totally pissed right not cos, he just got a pay rise courtesy to the successful deployment and automation of the accounting system, which he knows absolutely nothing about, which i singledhandedly, paintstakingly work on for over 6months even investing my Saturdays.

The above is one instance out of so many.

I expect a manager to represent work done my the department he manages as "WE in so & so dept" I have overheard him many times using "I".

He personally ask me not to pass any dept info to mgt staff member, and all enquiries should be refered to him. I feel he doesnt want me to shine.

I need advise from fellow NLers who have gone through similar situation.

This is not really going well with me.

Suspected bandits dressed in military uniform attacked communities in Abbare, Lau local government area of Taraba on Thursday, killing over 100 cows.

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed Abbare Community yesterday around 12pm with military vehicles and motorcycles with guns as they started shooting when the cattle came back from their grazing at Abbare River.

Over 100 cows were killed and no fewer than 76 cattle's injured.

According to NAN, David Misal, police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, made this known in Jalingo, the state capital on Friday.

He said the command had deployed more policemen in the area, adding that the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of the area had also been directed to investigate the matter.

He said more information would be released to the public as soon as “clearer pictures” on the situation were received.

Speaking to Journalist, Muhammad Umar, a community leader of Abbare village, said the gunmen invaded the area around 1pm.

“In the process, the gunmen killed at least 100 cows and maimed several others,’” Umar said.

He built over 11 federal universities including the only University in Buhari's state. These international airports are projects he started (over 7 of them), over 50 almajiri schools, new roads and massive road repairs including ore road, foreign partnership with auto producers like Kia and Toyota, train stations fuel subsidized and lots more. If only Nigerians allowed him another four years. by now, those investments like airports, train, universities should be yeilding money back to wherever he took the money from but this buhari keeps shouting no money...

Chinese President has officially opened the 55km world's longest sea crossing bridge. The sixth longest bridge on earth took nine years to complete.

The new bridge connects Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai.

It will cut travelling time between Zhuhai and Hong Kong from about four hours to just 30 minutes.

Built at the cost about $20bn (that is about ₦7.3trillion) and designed to last 120 years ,the mega structure is strong enough to withstand earthquakes and typhoons.

Part of the total crossing consists of a 30km bridge that crosses the sea. A 6.7km underwater tunnel also runs between two artificial islands to allow large cargo ship containers to pass through.

To put the length of the bridge into perspective, the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos (the second longest bridge in Africa) has a total length of 11.8 km.

For now, only private transports that has special permits will be allowed on the bridge. Hong Kong residents will also need special permits to access the toll paying bridge .

China also boasts of the World’s Highest Bridge ,the ₦52billion 1.34 km bridge between Xuanwei city and Shuicheng county, that is as tall as a 200-storey-building.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has said he could remain in the senate for the rest of his life if he so wishes saying he's always in touch with his constituents, and could easily win elections.

He spoke on Thursday at Sheraton Hotel at a public dialogue organised by the #NotTooYoungToRun movement, a youth group that successfully lobbied for the passage of a new law that reduced the age of qualification for political office across the country.
