Politics › Re: Buhari Will Take 10m Nigerians Out Of Poverty In 10 Years —Osinbajo by judeodion(m): 8:54pm On Sep 12, 2019 |
Wow... he has spent 4 years already. If 4 million people were celebrating escape from poverty today, we would have celebrated this news with champagne. But No way! 4 million people have rather been thrown into poverty. ogododo: Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said that 10 million Nigerian would be out of poverty in the next 10 years.
Osimbajo made this promise on Thursday at Abdullahi Fodio Palace in Birnin Kebbi when he paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to take 10 millions Nigerian out of poverty in the next 10 years, we believe very strongly we can achieve it in collaboration with the state governor.
“We are here in Kebbi for several things and to promote National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and petty traders’ businesses, and to inspect the renovation of the market in the state,” he said.
According to the Vice President, the National Micro and Medium Enterprises scheme is a scheme that is designed to develop the business of petty traders in the country, which can alleviate the level of poverty in the country.
“We give petty traders N10,000, when they pay back we increase it to N20,000.
“This is a very good program which is designed to help hard-working citizens of this country. They should be able to have support from the government no matter how little it is,” he said
He commended the traditional ruler, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar, for collaborating with security agencies in fighting insecurity in the state.

Politics › Re: Fitch: Buhari’s CBN Policies May Drag Nigerian Economy Into Crisis by judeodion(m): 6:51pm On Aug 28, 2019 |
You are even keeping track of how much and how they bribe. You refused to arrest them and now you're coming out to tell us. What should we do about this? nwakibie3: Fitch, a credit ratings international organisation has disclosed that the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) under President Muhammadu Buhari might drag the Nigerian economy in crisis due to mismatch in economic policy management.
In the latest report released by Fitch, titled Nigeria’s Unconventional Policies Aggravate External Vulnerability, the organisation stated that the CBN’s recent attempt to boost economic activity through giving incentives to banks’ lending had clashed with the goal of maintaining a stable exchange rate, and this is not good for the economy.
Uncoordinated policies: Fitch noted that the CBN’s policy moves to reconcile competing goals through unconventional macroeconomic management and weaknesses in policy settings were raising medium-term vulnerabilities to shocks, and this could expose the economy more to falling oil prices or disruptions to hydrocarbon production.
- According to the report, tight management of domestic liquidity had been the key pillar of Nigeria’s exchange-rate policy in recent years.
- However, the recent measures to boost lending have contributed to a temporary loosening of domestic financing conditions. This has combined with falling oil prices and deteriorating investor sentiment towards emerging markets to put pressure on the naira.
- Specifically, one of the major policies cited by Fitch is the policy implemented in July, which includes a requirement for banks to have a loans-to-deposits ratio of at least 60% by the end of September and tighter restrictions on the amount of remunerable deposits that banks can park at the Central Bank.
Macroeconomic Pressures: Also, it was stated that exchange rate movement pressured the CBN to resume its liquidity tightening operations in August by auctioning Open Market Operations (OMO) bills, and to increase the supply of foreign currency, releasing about $800 million from its foreign-currency reserves between mid-July and mid-August.
- According to Fitch, these moves by the CBN have contributed to a rebound in domestic interest rates and limited the depreciation of the naira on the Investors’ and Exporters’ FX Window by 1% since the end of June.
- Hence, Fitch noted that the competing goals of preserving naira stability and supporting Nigeria’s fragile recovery were pushing the CBN towards increasingly complex policy measures, with a risk of aggravating external vulnerability or causing macroeconomic distortions.
- Fitch stated that the CBN’s policy of auctioning OMO bills to non-residents had led to a rapid build-up of short-term external liabilities with non-resident holdings of these bills amounting to $15.8 billion (4% of GDP) at end-April, equivalent to a third of reserves. This generates meaningful rollover risks, which could necessitate persistently high-interest rates, holding back growth and increasing the government’s debt-servicing costs
FOREX restriction on milk and food items: Fitch identified CBN’s recent move to intensify restrictions on FOREX access for imports that were imposed in 2015. While the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, recently called on the CBN to end FOREX for milk importers, the President has also announced restriction of FX access for all food imports, but according to Fitch, the scope, modalities and timeline of such measures remain unclear.
Also according to Fitch, FX restrictions are unlikely to foster expansion in the domestic food supply, as Nigeria’s agricultural and food sectors suffer from deep-seated challenges from infrastructure gaps, communal conflicts, insecurity and weather hazards. Instead, these restrictions could push more traders towards the informal economy and compound inflationary pressures.
On Nigeria’s inflation, Fitch noted that Nigeria’s Inflation at about 11% already raises the risk of an overvaluation of the real effective exchange rate, which could put more pressure on the naira and increase the risk of a sharp adjustment following an oil price shock. Withdrawal of portfolio investors would aggravate the potential balance of payment pressures.

The story is too long. Please loot and be fast Baba. No time. If you're slow, express will leave us. Countries are moving fast. ebusnwaoma: President Buhari who addressed the Nigerian community in Dubai on Tuesday, stated that he may be slow but he does not loot. The Nigerian President who said he does not want to make the mistake he made as a military head of state when he pushed people into prison in hurry, added that he does not care if he is called “Baba go slow” as long as he is not looting the country’s treasury.
President Buhari who admitted that he may be slow but he does not loot, told Nigerians in Dubai;
“I may be ‘Baba go slow’ but I didn’t loot,” he said. So, whoever calls me ‘Baba go slow’, I’m very cautious of historical antecedent. Since I was in a hurry, I was locked up, I’m going slow so that I can survive. I ‘bark but I cannot bite, Baba go slow,’ I have once ruled this country, some of you know that once upon a time I came in uniform and what I did was to arrest from the president downward. The president, Vice President, the governor’s and ministers, other than the president and the Vice President, the others, I put them in Kiri-Kiri, and I told them they are guilty until they can prove themselves innocent.
“And you know subsequently what happened- we put about six tribunals base on the geopolitical zones, and those who were ministers and governors were asked to justify what they have in the banks and physical on the ground relative to their legitimate earnings.“There were only two Nigerians then to my knowledge who were found to be very Honourable, both of them are dead now: Biliaminu Usman, a junior minister, from Jigawa State, and Adamu Chiroma, a minister of finance and governor of central bank.
“They were incredible Nigerians. But you know what happened, eventually, I myself was arrested, I was put in detention for three and a quarter years, luckily for me, I was not stupid, I didn’t take anybody’s money, so there was no bad publicity for me because they couldn’t find anything against me. Eventually I was released, and that was why I made up my mind since the bulk is partisan politics, I joined the partisan politics. You also know what happened, I tried three times, and I managed to succeed the fourth time.”

The suspect had approached the victim for help, on Tuesday morning, at their Mini-orlu street off ada-george Road, Port Harcourt home, only to overpower and strangle her to the point that she defecated on herself.
Seeing that she was fast losing consciousness, Blessing decided to pretend as if she was dead, however, after the suspect left her to get his machete, she made a dash for the door and raised an alarm which led to the arrest of the man.
