Sherlock5577: It's well. You should try again, but confirm that everything's in order, especially your DS 160. It seems they are more convinced when the sponsor is a direct blood relation (I may be wrong though). I wish you the best on your next try. Thanks abunch brother, I'll do just as you've suggested. |

Pefuele: In my interview I once told the VO that I will be co-sponsored by my Dad and my uncle and her body language to my response was negative. She made a humm sound and shook her head with dis-approval.She then ask what my sponsor do. I didn't know what she meant with negative approval initially until I took time to reflect she probably meant the family may be struggling financially if just one person can't accept the financial burden. My views though! She may think otherwise.VO's decisions are subjective. I Stan! You're right bro, I never saw it from that perspective. |

My transcript This morning, the old man by the first window by your left as you're entering. .... Me:good morning Vo: didn't answer Me: I just bone, let it not look like I disrespected an old man probably he's got what's bothering him too sha. Vo: pass me your documents (without even looking at me Me: I was sha looking at him and passed it Vo: when did you finish high school? ( He had to repeat that like 3 different times cos his voice was really fainted ) Me: I was just thinking like ( ha! Gbese re oo, wetin concern high school concern msc na) I sha told him Vo: when did you finish college? ( still fainting voice oooo) Me: I sha kept saying " paddin, sir" till I was sure that was his question cos i don't understand the man sef,so I told him Vo: started typing ooo Me: I was sha looking around for the available paper color on his desk to see the closest to him as he has been dishing out pink since I noticed him Vo: what do you do? Me: I'm a junior data analyst with UBA, I use statistical softwares like tableau, spss, powerbi to visualize data .....
Vo: ( I was already flowing thinking I finally got his attention ) cuts in and asked " Did you write any standardized test? " Me: yes I took TOEFL (I think I heard that a bit clearer than others ) Vo: who Is sponsoring you? Me: my uncle and my mother ( of which I had my legit statement oo) Vo eventually looks up Las las only to dish me a yellow or orange paper (sorry I don't know colours ) it wasn't the usual pink so I thought maybe it's the new paper for specials like myself lol ( but it dawned on me white is what one family man smiled out with on the other window ).... In one word sha the old man scatter my face with the paper cos i didn't hear what he said alongside giving me the paper..... I sha know if it was a good outcome, the "congratulations " would be audible enough.... Tor na so dem reject me ooo but we try again sha ooo, by God's grace y'all will rejoice with me this time around. Big appreciation to the people I reached out to and they sent their numbers to vet my transcript and even gave me mock examination even as I wasn't really chanced, some of them kept on buzzing me to make one or two changes... I wish i know your handles here so I'll post em but gmail kept on bringing their real names instead,i am grateful guys, really grateful and "sharwama" no Reply my mail cos i love being examined by a lady (I understand you're busy and got too many people on your neck though, that's the price you pay for being that famous ). I'm going to try again but this time with funding, I hope you guys still come through for me ps Lucky my guy, thanks Fam.... We go catch for UI God's willing. |

sheke01: Just so you know, am having a hard time believing your "a promise of GA" statement. A VO would likely not believe it too and this might cast that tiny bit of doubt on your sponsor financial capacity to sponsor you. This tiny bit of doubt might lead to denial.
Questions like "why weren't you given the GA instead of being promised"? "What if the GA doesn't come, what would you do then"? will play in the mind of the VO. You don't want to be seen as a potential "out of status" material if the GA doesn't come as planned
I'll suggest you don't mention that promise except you have adequate documentation to back up your claim.
You having multiple sponsors already cast some doubt on their sponsorship capacity
Just my opinion, am not a VO and would never be Thank you brother /sister.... I'm really grateful for this. I'll fix that. |

Mudicua: Hi. I skimmed through your transcript... And these were some of the things I think you should work on.
• Why are you going to the US? ==>I’M GOING TO THE U.S FOR MY MASTER’S DEGREE IN STATISTICS (with a specialization in business analysis)
• What will you specialize in for your degree? ==>BUSNINESS ANAYSIS (no need for this)
• What will be your major? ==>STATISTICS (no need for this)
• Who is your current employer? What do you do? ==>I CURRENTLY WORK with U.B.A AS JUNIOR DATA ANALYST; I INTERPRETE DATA WITH DATA VISUALIZATION USING VARIOUS TOOLS LIKE EXCEL, POWERBI, TABLEAU AND GIVE REPORTS FOR DECISION MAKING.(Big big grammer… yes it is good to speak the language of your career, but it can be jargon to the VO)
• Can you not continue your education in your home country? WHY U.S? ==>THE UNITED STATES IS KNOWN TO BE THE TOP COUNTRY IN TECHNOLOGY AND DATA (data what?), BIG TECH COMPANIES LIKE GOOGLE, FACEBOOK AND MICROSOFT RELIES HEAVILY ON DATA. As such studying this course in US will expose me to advanced skills in data analysis. THESE MAKE STUDYING THIS COURSE IN THE U.S AHEAD OF ANY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, I WOULD BE EXPOSED TO MORE ADVANCE SKILLS IN DATA analysis AND I WOULD BE HAVING AN INTERNSHIP DURING MY PROGRAM, WHICH WOULD ALSO GIVE ME OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE SOME HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE. (no need for these )
• How will you meet these expenses? ==>I've been promised a ga upon my arrival once the vacancy is open and my mother and uncle will foot the bill till I get the GA (this is a no no… do not say you have been promised a GA position to fund your expenses in US, cos if no GA position what happens?)
There were also a lot of repetitions in the transcript and as such made it hard to follow and read. But I think you should go through it again, streamline it down, using the pieces of advise given by others on this thread. Thanks Alot bro, I'm grateful. I need to talk to you personally please. |

Marisawonka: I skimmed through a bit and your answers seem to be repetitive. You could easily summarize them, it will save you a lot of time and explanation. In addition, your sponsorship answers need more work. Just consider the part I highlighted in your transcript. Don't forget to read approved and disapproved transcripts and learn from them. Thanks abunch sir/ma... I'll do all the corrections you pointed out right away |

pronto543: Hi folks,
Please I need some clarification on how to use the PowerPrep II software. I have downloaded it but whenever I try to launch it,it opens in my Internet explorer which doesn't work well compared to my Mozilla. I thought Powerprep II is offline like the TOEFL sampler software. How do I make the software open on my Mozilla? Whenever I launch it on Explorer, it gets to the point where it shows the "Continue" button but fails to respond when I click on it.
Also, I need folks to clarify the difference between Powerprep II and Powerprep plus. My exam is on August 6th and I'm just confused about the whole stuff. I feel my preparation is adequate and I'm doing pretty well in other full test I've taken with Barron and Kaplan as well as diagnostic Tests from Princeton Review and Manhattan 5lb books. I have exhausted the Manhattan 5lb book, Official Guides (Verbal & Quants) and Princeton Review. I have watched all the Magoosh videos I downloaded from this forum. I always try to simulate the exam condition by constantly timing myself in all the practice exercises. I use 1.75 mins and 1.5 minutes for Quants and Verbal questions respectively. It has gretaly helped me and time is hardly an issue for me when I take full timed tests.
Please, I just need the clarification and working links to ets Powerprep II and Powerprep Plus if possible. I also need suggestions on other free online full test sites. Please i need help too. |

Sherlock5577: There's a Google Drive link for TOEFL materials within the thread. You would need to go through it at least from May last year, because I've tried checking but haven't seen the complete material. This link contains some notefull videos. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/45tvc3ifi8wh8sh/AACXR5j6l3nsWK8vZx5P28TVa?dl=0
You'll need to find the TOEFL ETS official guide and other notefull videos. They'll be sufficient. Thank you so much bro for the audience. Please how do I get to join the study groups? I'm on all platforms, I'll really do better if i have a community of people who we share knowledge together. |
