I have a few tips for you. 1.) Make sure your wordpress username is not "admin".
2.) Use sheath login plugin. This plugin will protect your wp-admin with an additional authorization code.
3.) Make sure your wordpress is set to auto upate. This is vitally important.

Wordpress is not as bad as people think. Further Security breach can be avoided if you follow the above tips.

I started this project a fortnight ago. It is a photo competition website which allows pictures to be rated by registered users. It has two level of vote authentication : (a) IP address of guests and users is logged. (b.) Only registered user can vote. Voting link is automatically generated, as it expires immediately voting is done (Thanks to Garry Larry for this one-time url feature). This photocontest website is hosted temporarily on http://photocontest.66ghz.com.
